Never created low content books before but since I've got Book Bolt it is something I'll be doing regularly. I'm also purchasing Tangent Templates which is also a good program for a one off payment. You can't have enough templates which save so much time. Thanks this was a very quick and no fluff video to get you producing a book.I really appreciated this video for working through Book Bolt.
As a graphic designer why are you faffing around with these consumer level apps, and why stock templates? There is so much generic and look-a-like dross in self publishing surely original quality will stand out.

Bit of a bug in bookbolt, have to reselect 6x9 in the download interior, otherwise it downloads 5x8. You can see in the file name it downloads if the wrong size is used. @14:10 you can see the moment you select plain lined notebook it switches to 5x8. So good practice to pick the interior first, then select the size after. Hope that helps. Appreciate the walk through on bookbolt especially the designer and pricing

I've never looked into this niche but if the numbers work for you in terms of being happy with the amount of competition/demand and you enjoy making these types of books then go for it!
You're welcome! 😀 Probably not for things like notebooks or journals that just have lined pages. Sometimes I'll add it on more unique books but it's not really necessary and I always include it on things like colouring or activity books.

Hi, you're welcome! It's up to you really how many you want to upload. I don't really suggest uploading a lot, if you feel that the customers would want a couple of different options in terms of design then you can upload a few different ones or if you are not sure which cover would sell better you can upload a few to test, etc.

108 pages is called the sweet spot because a book whit that number of pages has only a fixed cost for printing. If your book is more than 108 pages there is a fixed cost and additional costs per page as printing costs.

You're welcome! You could but it might be a little time intensive. What you could do is download 1 page of template you want to use. Then collate them in Powerpoint or something in whatever order you want them in. Hope that makes sense.

To make a colouring book you need to get together a collection of colouring pages (purchase them from somewhere, make them yourself or hire someone to make the pages). You put them together into one document to create the coloring book. You can do this in whatever program you know how to use like Canva, Microsoft Word or Powerpoint or even in Adobe Indesign or Publisher. For trademarked words or phrases, get the USTPO for trademarks and then in terms of trademarking your brand - this would just depend on how serious you are about building your brand marketing and if you want to be sure you don't want anyone to copy it. Thank you! You select that you own the rights. Public Domain is for when you publish a book that is in the public domain - which is a book already written by someone else famous a long time ago and they have now passed away and they copyright period on their book has passed.

It says, “amazon doesn’t support electronic payment for all markets places in your bank location”. I’m lost with the word market place? So should I open a business account so I can receive electronic payment?
Very well explained but the thing I worry about is competing on price. Amazon stops me from setting a price lower than they want which on 100 pages seems to be $5.17 yet most of the competition are priced $3.99 to 4.99. So if I set it at $5.99 surely the customers will opt for the cheaper versions?
Thank you 😀 I don't believe customers always by the cheapest option, I think they buy the option that suits what they want exactly. In saying that, perhaps that particular niche isn't the best one to go into if you can't set your prices high enough to make the royalty you want.

If you type in a search term that doesn't match anything, it doesn't bring anything up so it sort of looks like it's not working - so perhaps try different words to describe your book? For example if you type in notebook nothing comes up as there isn't a category to match where you should put a notebook (unfortunately).

You're welcome! A lot of research is done on Amazon, literally just searching through different categories, looking for different niches then exploring each of those niches to look at the amount of search volume, the amount of competitors, the sales volume of the niche etc.
Does kdp allow photographs for covers? I take a lot of pictures of things, bike paths bridges, etc. Does that make the price go up? Is it to large of a file?
You can do colour but the printing costs are too high that you can't price your book competitively so it's better to keep it black and white. If you create the book in colour but then choose to print only black and white, that's also not a good idea because the look inside feature of your listing would show a colour book, but the customer then receives it in black and white which wouldn't be a good customer experience and you'd probably get negative reviews.
I noticed it says on the right side... Not offered in this marketplace. But you said it will be offered in those marketplaces. Can you explain? I was surprised when I got to this point before uploading to amazon. I just need to understand.
If i having a KDP store in amazon , should i sell books on a specific niche ? Is the royalty calculation wrong in this video? Based on the sale price and royalty price quoted the book designer is receiving 33% rather than 60%. What is the actual royalty amount on a low content book (coloring book in particular)?
Do you have any idea how Amazon handles returns for books that arrive damaged? Many reviews I have read complain about receiving damaged books and their intent to return. Is the seller responsible for the return fee? Amazon is famous for that with other products sold 3rd party. Thanks

No you don't have to create a new pen name for every book you create. You can if you want to though, totally up to you.

Great video! What do you choose for low content books ? When it comes to PUBLISHING RIGHTS - do you choose "I own the copyright and I hold necessary publishing rights" or "This is a public domain work" I appreciate your expertise in this. Thanks
Thank you! You select that you own the rights. Public Domain is for when you publish a book that is in the public domain - which is a book already written by someone else famous a long time ago and they have now passed away and they copyright period on their book has passed.

Different templates as in not from Book Bolt? Or ones you create yourself?
Please what can you put in the place of your 16 digit card number when registering on book bolt if you are using a verve card which has 18 digits card number ?

Your videos are great and have helped me greatly. However, How do i adjust a graphic to fit in the given space on the book bolt cover feature.?? When i adjust from the corners the opposite end expands. I just want adjust the pic to fit.
Thank you! The corners you should be able to pull in to make the image smaller too - is that not happening?
Thanks for your quick reply. I received a reply this morning from Book Bolt support. The trick is to hold down the shift key while aadjusting size from the bottom right arrows. I didn't know that. BTW what I like most of all about your videos is the clarity, not rushed, speech. and easy to follow. From a fellow Australian. Much appreciated. Regards

I’m stuck with setting up my amazon KDP account in the payment section. It says, “amazon doesn’t support electronic payment for all markets places in your bank location”. I’m lost with the word market place?

Very well explained but the thing I worry about is competing on price. Amazon stops me from setting a price lower than they want which on 100 pages seems to be $5.17 yet most of the competition are priced $3.99 to 4.99. So if I set it at $5.99 surely the customers will opt for the cheaper versions?
Thank you 😀 I don't believe customers always by the cheapest option, I think they buy the option that suits what they want exactly. In saying that, perhaps that particular niche isn't the best one to go into if you can't set your prices high enough to make the royalty you want.
How do you upload a 5o page pdf interior to bookbolt that is over 10mb?

Things were going smoothly up until I couldn't get the category finder to work on Book Bolt. I tried signing in etc but nothing. Any suggestions?
If you type in a search term that doesn't match anything, it doesn't bring anything up so it sort of looks like it's not working - so perhaps try different words to describe your book? For example if you type in notebook nothing comes up as there isn't a category to match where you should put a notebook (unfortunately).

You're welcome! A lot of research is done on Amazon, literally just searching through different categories, looking for different niches then exploring each of those niches to look at the amount of search volume, the amount of competitors, the sales volume of the niche etc.
Does kdp allow photographs for covers? I take a lot of pictures of things, bike paths bridges, etc. Does that make the price go up? Is it to large of a file?
Yes you can use photos if you want to. No, the images you use don't make a difference to the pricing. 😀
Are we allowed to add coloured text in our low content books? Or must all content be BLACK and White
You can do colour but the printing costs are too high that you can't price your book competitively so it's better to keep it black and white. If you create the book in colour but then choose to print only black and white, that's also not a good idea because the look inside feature of your listing would show a colour book, but the customer then receives it in black and white which wouldn't be a good customer experience and you'd probably get negative reviews.

I mean there are niches like coloring books, jurnals, math puzzles etc.. so if i choose the coloring book niche, should i stick with only for coloring niche ? Is the royalty calculation wrong in this video? Based on the sale price and royalty price quoted the book designer is receiving 33% rather than 60%. What is the actual royalty amount on a low content book (coloring book in particular)?
Do you have any idea how Amazon handles returns for books that arrive damaged? Many reviews I have read complain about receiving damaged books and their intent to return. Is the seller responsible for the return fee? Amazon is famous for that with other products sold 3rd party. Thanks
Amazon handles the returns and you don't get charged a fee for that.
I installed book bolt but I have been trying to register it's not going through it justs keeps loading.
I made the interior but when I downloaded it to my files it downloaded only one page. What did I do wrong?
