So yes, I won't be stopping them from falling into an open manhole.

Wow! That is so spot on. I've never been more thankful that I'm a control freak than now. Social media came very much in handy during lockdown, but I deleted FB from my phone because it was wasting too much of my time. It takes effort to boot up the computer to use it and I set time limits. I like to play solitaire on my phone, but my rule is, I win 3 games, I get off and go do something else. The last time I saw people with those non-expressions on their faces was back in the 70s when I was locked up in a mental institution and surrounded by people on heavy doses of things like Thorazine and Haldol.
Above and beyond genius! You have such a great voice and your brain’s ability to write these parodies are mind blowing and to top it off you make these amazing videos! Let’s don’t forget how relevant all of they are! Weird Al wishes he was on your level!👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏❤️

Stunning social commentary. I personally have no children or grandchildren, and this would only apply to grandchildren because they would be the proper age, but I think every parent should see this. Would be so easy to let the kids be stuck to their phones because it could mean a moment of quiet for a parent. Much like people have used television to babysit their kids. Covid certainly hasn’t helped because face-to-face got so very difficult and still is. Nevertheless, there’s a world out there beyond the electronics! I grew up in real life and I’m so glad I did.

I love this parody! Thought of it yesterday when a lady looking at her phone walked right into my cart yesterday at the grocery store. I protested, "Excuse me!" but she didn't take her eyes from the screen, but just kept pushing into me and my cart. I finally bumped her gently with the cart, thinking she'd stop but she didn't look up. At last, I said, "EXCUSE ME!" and she lifted blank eyes to me before she took a couple steps to the side, lowered her eyes again and wandered on. HONESTLY!
Loved this one. You know though, online has been a lifesaver these last two years here in Melb, Aus. Lockdowns have been awful and all my friends live outside my 5-10km radius. Another good thing is I met up with a fellow online friend and we became friends in real life…and I’ve only been able to see her a few times thanks to endless lockdowns 😖. Must say I was not expecting Zombie by The Cranberries. That always flashes me back to the bombing of my home town in ‘93. It hit us really hard. My brother was the same age as Tim Parry and likely in the same school if we’d stayed.

Oh, wow - the bombing sounds terrible. Sorry if this song brought an unexpected flash back for you. As for online being a lifesaver - I agree. It's a double edged sword for me. I so appreciate the many good things it brings, but I also see the entropy it causes in lives.

This is so true. One thing i hate seeing people doing is having headphones on while walking their dog. They are not communicating with the dog and taking it out because they have to. Not because they want to.

I must say I do this at times. I enjoy listening to podcasts, and walk my dog on a beach where she loves to run around and sniff at everything. I have the podcast soft enough that I can hear the sea and any other noise as well, but when we hit the sand, she's all about having her little adventures, and I walk behind her happily, listening to the podcasts. We're both very happy.

Oh my my my. One of my favorite songs. When I was a teenager, I used to listen to this song over and over again for hours. Now this version is my favorite too--true to life! What will people do if the internet and smart phones stop working... They'll be lost... LOL 😂
Excellent, very well done video and such a painfully true commentary on what life has become since the advent of cell phones. I realize that I, too, have become somewhat of a "phone addict"; but since, fortunately, I grew up in a time when cell phones didn't exist, I'm so glad that I was able to experience life without them. A time when people related to each other in person, and the only purpose of a phone was to talk with someone. I do appreciate all the benefits that cell phones and the internet have to offer, which are many; but at the same time I miss lots of aspects of "the way things were". Technology makes life easier but also colder and more impersonal. But I guess like anything, it can be used in positive or negative ways! Anyway, thanks for another awesome video, it's given me a lot to think about. I don't wanna be a phone zombie!!

Yes, I do use my cellphone to call, text or watch RUclips videos on repairing things or to listen to music.
However, I am a baby boomer who does not use social media. I prefer eye contact.
This is an exquisite merge of the two songs. Love it a lot. 👍
Thank you!
"...RUclips subscribers and strangers called friends..." NAILED IT, hahahahaha!
Wow Shirley, you never fail to amaze us with your talent. Much love & regards of the season 💛
Thanks so much!
Yes, the cell phones and I remembe in the 70s when there wasn't any cell phones and now there everywhere 😁🤣lift your head , from the cell phone 😁. Shirley Serbin is a great singer and talented.
I was too late for the live.
But you perfectly express my feelings towards all those addicts who only care about their cell phone.
Thank you, Carina!
I have just discovered Shirley and I have already shared her site with several friends. She is both talented and brilliant! What a treasure!
Thanks so much!
You did it again. Every time you come up with one it's right on. I love it thank you
That's really kind of you - thank you!
I didn't grow up with a phone in my hand and I know that dates me. Such a sad commentary on our times. Thank you for the truth :l
Messages through humor are one of the most powerful tools out there. Will people wake up through masterpieces like this? Unfortunately I don't think so. Congratulations on another great job, my friend. And by the way, I don't have a smartphone - never had, never will. Greetings from Brazil.
Thank you so much, mundicojr!
GREAT VIDEO Shirley....Your video shows us just how disconnected we are from Each Other..it's sad...but this is so very True..You are AWESOME!!❤️🤗💯😇🙏
Thanks so much, Brenda.
Just LOVE it! ❤ I must admit I love watching RUclips but I still don't walk and watch. Only at home or if I'm waiting sometimes. But so many people are totally addicted to watching their phones 24/7. Great parody 👍 🤣
Thank you!
I do that. I can put the phone down ffs people you are going to get killed walking into oncoming traffic starring at meaningless rubbish. Put your dang phone down.
Great song! Thank you Shirley. ❤
Thank you, Nan.
Wow, another absolutely awesome video and parody!! Shirley, you are so amazing at what you do and I love all of your stuff but this one is just so perfect for society today LOL
Thank you so much, Stephen!
You are AMAZING love your GREAT VIDEOS. THANK YOU enjoy watching them.
Thank you so much, Diane!
Thank you, Shirley! I shared this with all my "friends". 😂
Thank you!
Ooh, the Zombie addition at the end really got me. This is really brilliant and moving - this should go viral, and yes I see the irony, but really!
Thank you, Mrs Smith!
Hi Shirley! This is soooooo true! As I was watching the video, I couldn’t but think Another Brick on the Wall could be an inspiration for a similar song too. Congrats for your videos and merry Christmas!
Thank you, balsera04! I just did Another Brick in the Wall a few weeks ago! Here it is: ruclips.net/video/OhS7VDrwjr8/видео.html
I was just going to say that Shirley has done the song but see she's posted you the link. Another fab video
🤔🤔 hhmmm... 🎵 another brick 🎵 in th 😮 HEY!!! 😯 YEAH!!!😲😀😁😁 Oh Shiirrr-leeee... 🙂🙃😉😊😙🤭
I also happen to love reading books, and I also love working puzzle books. If I ever see somebody about fall into an open manhole, I will just watch them and get a great laugh. If that sounds like I have a cruel sense of humor, you are right, because people keep on proving that I am intelligent and the people who are glued to their phones don't know how to enjoy their surroundings anymore because of their phones. So yes, I won't be stopping them from falling into an open manhole.
Excellent! , so very sadly true in this age of technology! Remember the good old days before cellphone mania, where people actually communicated and talked to one another! Genius Shirley you captured it & wrapped it up so well! 👍❤👏
Thank you!
I know you are a teacher, how do you find time to do these to such good quality?
This is how I unwind after work!
So clever. And it’s so spot on, I don’t know if I should laugh or despair. Good job Shirley
Thanks, Jeannie.
Chilling. I just got my first smartphone a year ago and I'm happy to report I use it for phone calls, the occasional chat and Spotify. It regularly sits on my desk untouched for days. Because of everything you call out right here.
Wow, this is an EXCELLENT video and so true. I was a kid when Prodigy came out.I immediately felt this rush that KNOWLEDGE ANYTHING we wanted to know was now obtainable with a few click of my mouse.I told people I was "addicted " to the web". They laughed. They are NOT laughing now because MANY of them now suffer the SAME fate and its actually SAD .
Another brilliant one!! ❤️❤️❤️ Yes, we are all guilty of being 'zombies'! 😐
Indeed. Thanks!
Not all of us. I only use my phone Internet when it's safe and NEVER crossing the road . I will answer a call while walking but. I look up.
The sad thing is that is NOT a "parody" but a legitimate observation.
Great job as usual. Now, what is the answer ?
World wide internet outage for a time, perhaps? 🙂
I am delighted and impressed. Please share, like and subscribe. These could be the mythical “Tablets of Destiny “.
Thank you, Twotofourfoot! I'm not sure the Babylonians had an issue with phone addiction though.... 😆
@ Well said. I appreciate your art.
Isn't this our new era???? Yep. Shirley, you're are ❤🎉 so phenomenal. I love literally all that you provide us with lots of smiles. You are sure an "up lifter." Many thanks!
Wow, thank you!
Loved it. And so darn true. It's time to hide my phone for awhile
Thank you, Linda - now put that phone down!
@ I listen to the music on RUclips while crocheting so the phone is mostly down. Lol
Superb parody , you hit the nail right on the head ...they never lift their heads up , I look and say " ah another phone victim " as they walk by without paying attention ....
Good one - but yes, it's quite sad how entrapped many get.
So well done. Great reminder to experience the real world. 😺💜💚
Thank you! 😊
Ironic, brilliant, but ironic. Now, can't hang about must watch a few more of Shirley's videos!
😆 Believe me, I sensed the irony as I made it!
This woman is a genius!!
Aw, thank you!
She really is 🙌
WOW! You are an absolute genius. That actually gave me goosebumps!! About to watch it again, then I promise I'll lift my head afterwards :-)
Thank you, Sharon!
Nice but missing the famous guitar solo.
Yeah, I leave that with the experts! 😁
Love how you segued into the Cranberries ‘Zombie’ - a pretty devastating song in it’s own right.
Thank you!
Wow isn't that the truth. Well done 👍👏👏👏
Thanks so much, Geraldine!
A little Cranberries thrown in at the end too! Brilliant!
Thank you!
OMG, genius! Shirley, you just seem to surpass yourself with each new re-lyricing. Love love love this song. And I hate hate hate that these once vibrant human beings are now hypnotized blobs .
Thank you so much, Frogpal Peeper!
Well done video. The whole world needs to see this one.
Thank you for this great parody , Shirley ! 👍
Glad you enjoyed it!
@ 🙌
Brilliant, inspiring, and a necessary intervention.
Thank you!
Hi Shirley, this is your best ever, with you on every sentiment, we have all become digital creatures, so sad, we used to talk to each other, now it is all messages, text and whatsapp, no real contact, no eye contact, we are now all prisoners, of our own making... keep going, you lift all our spirits....e (West Coast Ireland)
Thank you, Ned. I love the irony that we are here, communicating digitally about this!!
“ The duck lips pout “ LOL !!!! I love it Shirley, i am a prisoner of this device sometimes; I do feel like the walking dead if I’m on my phone too long ! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻spot on
Thank you, Rosemary! 🐤
This song sent chills down my spine because it's so scary true.
Brilliant. I can remember rotary dial telephones, now people sent text messages instead of talking.
Brilliant as always ,Shirley. Many thanks ,Sandra and David in Canada
Thanks so much!
Good on you, Miriam!!
Hey, Miriam, fellow former looney-bin-er here! 😄 Big hugs to you!🤗🤗🤗
Above and beyond genius!
That's lovely, Cathy - thank you. Weird Al is my parody hero - I'd be very happy to be anywhere near his level!
Same. I must say, I don't think this is only a problem with younger people though. I know a few older ones who are seriously attached to their devices.
If you continue to do work like this you may become as lucky as Russell Crowe and Australia adopts you and tells the world you are one of us. 😂 Amazing work… ❤️
😆 Thank you, Auscop!
HONESTLY!
Scary - but it happens so often!
Felicitaciones, un gran trabajo reescribiendo la letra!. Más que parodia es una triste verdad.
Cranberries was an excellent choice! Also, is that a Pusheen hoodie??!
Thank you, Angel! No, it's a Menopause Rhapsody hoodie, actually! It says, 'I'm a grumpy hot potato'.
Ohh!!! Looks great! May drop a hint to someone about a Christmas gift... 😉
Chills went up my spine when you went in to Zombie chorus. What an apt conclusion!
Thank you!
AWESOME!! LOVED THE ENDING!!
Yay! Thank you!
Superb! I wish I had your creativity & ingenuity... ❤️😂
Thank you, Hila. I bet you have plenty yourself - it's just like muscles that need exercise to get strong!
@ yes, I'm a retired herbalist who really enjoyed making exotic lotions & potions! But in my case, those muscles could use a more regular work out! Keep it up my friend, your talent brings many of us much joy & laughter here in hospice!
Brilliant parody! Great work, Shirley.
Thank you!
Shirley Serban
Cellphone was my savory while 3
weeks hospital.
No one could visit. But my ties to family was the cellphone..
Seeing young kids with these devices 3 & 4 year olds. Mother's too busy on theirs, &
ignoring the little ones.
Brilliant Shirley
thanks for making my recovery so much better.
Salutations from California 💌🙏
I hope your recovery continues to go well, Barbara.
Oh YES! Don't I just know what that's like, especially at night. You know, just one thing to read, or video to quickly watch, or that urgent thing you need to buy on Amazon/Ebay.......3 hours later....eyeballs on fire..pounding headache, and only 2 hours left to sleep...which you can't because your eyes hurt too much!! Every time you go to the shop, can't get to the items you need because of someone having that all important conversation about their love life...or something equally inane.
Ah, but of course it's all "progress", ..... so they say. 👀🤪
Great song, wonderfully re done by our lovely Shirley who ALWAYS gets it absolutely spot on perfect. Our international TREASURE.
God bless you Shirley for all the pleasure you give to so many people all over the world.
Merry Christmas to you and all your family, stay safe, avoid Omicron!! 🎄🎁🍾🍷🍸🥂❤
Thank you, Geraldine. Have a wonderful Christmas too!
Love the nod to the cranberries Zombie at the end
I just had to!
🌿Freaking brilliant. Dang Shirley, not sure how I missed these but they are wonderful & this one is pure gold🌷🌿
Thank you, BookBWitched!
Ironically I am watching this parody on a smartphone. Did my best to lift my head throughout the song.
Haha!! 🧟♂️📱
Thanks Shirley totally brilliant! 📱I love it!📱😘❤️🇬🇧
Thank you, Glenda!
I received the alert for this song when walking in an 1300 years old town with half timbered houses. X-mas feeling, beautiful decoration. So calm, peaceful and without nobody around I clicked on the link... and became one of the zombies instantly, I had to hear the song until it's end. A typical Shirley: good, better, best, Serban. Happy Christmas greetings from Germany and thanks for the song.
I can just imagine the picture you have painted here, Ich Selbst. It brings me back to Germany in my mind - I used to go to South Germany every January for my work for a couple of years, and have walked through a number of old towns like that. Happy Christmas to you!
Danke, Christian.
Oooh you clever lady!!
Thank you, mickby1!
This is scarily true.
At work the only ones willing to converse during lunch are old timers like me and even some of them have succumbed to this mind virus.
I love this song very very much and I hope you can make more songs like this sometime soon please
Thank you!
SERIOUSLY?!? BEST EVER! Of course I had to be scrolling or near RUclips in order to see the notification of the release of this video. 😉 Luckily my life is out in the country so I am not always a slave to my devices. Congratulations on this very well done peace. I'm sure it hits home to a lot of people.
Thank you, Chandra!
Oh my my my. One of my favorite songs. When I was a teenager, I used to listen to this song over and over again for hours.
Now this version is my favorite too--true to life!
What will people do if the internet and smart phones stop working...
They'll be lost... LOL 😂
Society has definitely changed!
Thank you, Margarita. I am also so grateful that I grew up in the 'unconnected olden days' - because I think I would have been living online as a young person otherwise. I do appreciate the value added through technology but am aware that it is at the expense of many valuable things - like quality time with others.
@ Agreed. And I think those "unconnected olden days" were actually much more "connected" in many ways.
Exactly Margarita!! I love how the most intelligent and sincere commenters on YT are the ones who (somewhat unwisely) use their full names!🤗💞
@@jazziew2148 Thank you for your kind comment. Maybe you're right, maybe it is unwise in some ways, but so far I haven't felt the need to change it, but perhaps I will at some point. For now, I'll just continue to use my name!
@@margaritakleinman5701 Hug to you Margarita🤗 Have a great weekend!
