Paint It Black / Another Brick In The Wall Parody Song for those who hate technology
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 7 авг 2024
- The Rolling Stones' Paint it Black meets Pink Floyd's Another Brick in the Wall in this Parody song all about technology - and those who just don't like it. Know anyone like this?
My dear mother, Carolyn, has a hate-hate relationship with technology. I'm a teacher by trade and can teach tough concepts to anyone, but trying to teach her how to save documents on a computer is a mountain too high for me. She 100% inspired this song and was such a good sport about it that she agreed with my request to film her trying to use her phone and a laptop. No acting here - just me capturing her trying to figure it all out. Good times!

As a 34 year old, I will never take my parent's allergy to technology for granted. These are the loving folks who toilet-trained me, taught me how to hold a spoon and gave everything to raise me. I will spend hours, days and more going over the same phone things that are basic to me. Great song as always Shirley and huge hugs to your Mum for being a great sport.
Thank you, xxPenjoxx! Yes, tech may be a challenge, but tech-impaired people probably run rings around us in other ways. I know my mother does!
I PRINTED OFF A LIST OF HOW TO FOR MY PARENTS... AND WHAT TO DO WHEN IT DIDN'T WORK... ONLY THEN... BOTHER ME 🤪
So.wahr hab mich lange geweigert WhatsApp RUclips Facebook etc zu benutzen bin jetzt froh sonst würde ich deine tollen Videos nicht kennen
Love your comment
Shirley-- your mom is such a good sport to participate in this new artistic creation of yours! Thanks for creating a fun video that is truly universal -- understandable and relatable in every culture, country, language, gender and age. 😁👍❤
Thank you, markmh835!
Yeah. Your mum rocks
Yes I agree and a great video 😊 have a great day
Shirley, your Mama is a jewel! I'm 76 years old and can relate to every word in the video. I was forced to buy a new cell phone a few years back because of the new 5G technology. The phone's okay, but I'm still trying to figure out how to use the camera 🤳! It has so many gosh darn "bells and whistles" that I don't want or need. 😋
A great video, Shirley! Love to both you and your Mama! ♥️
@@JC-tp5lz -- Learning new things is what keeps us young, JC, and fights off Alzheimer's. Science has proven that. So just keep learning.
As for new technology, isn't that what grandchildren are for? 😁👍
Thank you, Shirley's Mom, for making this so realistic! My Ma wouldn't even touch my phone, she thought it was borderline Satanic--- until she desired something she saw in a commercial on TV. Whipped out my phone and 2 days later it arrived at her home. After that it was "Donna- I'd like to see some puppies, please.. " Thank you once again for your videos, Friend.
Funny!!!
Love it! 😂
Your mum knows what's up! The only acceptable use of phones any more is watching puppies 🥰🥰🥰🥰
Hee hee!
My grandma still doesn’t understand how you can type a few things in the cellphone and food arrives at your door. It’s the cutest
My mum was a real wiz at technology even well into her 80s - she always said that its so simple if you don't try to complicate it and over think ( she was always in demand at the church choir rehearsals for setting up phones and computers ) - I am lucky to inherit her genes as are my daughter and grand daughter are tech savvy (hate to say our son is not so tech minded0 . Thank your for the fun posting
Good on her!
Perfect timing, I really just got a new smartphone four days ago. My stone age one died on me a while back (RIP), which is why I went MIA for a while. Now I'm back with a vengeance, beware. To a certain extant I can sympathize with your Mom, there are still simple things that I haven't yet figured out on the new phone, but I'll keep looking. Well done again, Super-Shirley, and kudos for your good sport of a Mother.
My gramdma still texts with me and she's 93. But my mum can't use her cell phone at all and she's only 72. And I manage ok in real life but dream regularly that I can't get the darned thing to work. I wish Grandma would have given me more genes! 💖
@Sweetheart_cutie98 That's too young to go. I'm sorry. Hugs.
I'm *only* 60 but I love tech! My grandkids call me ' Gadget Nan', because I love a gadget, and the more technology it uses, the better! 🙂
Love how sweet and good sport your mom is!!! ❤👍🤣 Thank you for your using your talent to make us all smile and chuckle!
Thanks so much, Louise. Yes, she's a precious one!
Outstanding; both thumbs up 👍👍. The choice to combine these two songs was inspired; they meshed together beautifully. Your "cool face" on the Wall was perfect; the sunglasses spot-on. I think everyone can relate to this song, since who hasn't been baffled at least occasionally by the mysterious tech of our modern world. My phone's over my head in candle mode for you! 🔥
Thank you, Allan!
If pay phones had not disappeared and if it wasn't for everything being done electronically such as paperless billing that requires receiving bills through email versus delivered mail I wouldn't bother with this new technology.
At least my car is still simple and antiquated, it's a 1978 Dodge without power options no computers and nothing fancy.
@@roya.cathcartjr.5042
……..and at least a mechanic can still work on your car and not a computerised ‘tell it all’
Your mum's adorbs! And I'm willing to bet she's got *more* than a clue about the things that really matter.
Oh, absolutely. If it's not tech, she's a champion at it!
@ I bet she made that gorgeous afghan on the couch, didn't she? I love the colors in that.
@@LazyIRanch she absolutely did!
@ It's beautiful! 😍
Thanks Shirley and your mum, I enjoyed and can relate to this song. I'm in my 50's and I don't understand some of this tech too and I love getting letters in the post, a good old phone call on my landline or better still (when able to with covid) a visit in person.
Thank you, Susan!
For an introvert like me, who doesn't like being around people or talking on the phone, technology is a godsend
@@sunflowers730 Absolutely agree with you, I don't have a problem with the concept of technology and if this makes your life easier and better then that's great. I am like Shirley's mum where I try but don't understand, I'm not an extrovert myself but I like to read a handwritten letter over an email any day, I enjoy a good natter on the phone with friends and them popping round for a cuppa (pre covid).
Next year will be my 40th anniversary of dragging my first computer in this house. I can say that I've done reasonably well with it. But I realized that not all were on board with all this stuff, so I was quite welling to help friends, neighbors and friends navigate the tech jungle. Loved this song, Shirley & Carolyn.
Thank you, Dave!
@ This might sound funny, but I just visited my neighbor and she was having iPad troubles. I didn't fix it then, but came home and did some research with Google and sent her an email. I hope she has a better outcome than your mom. Although I think you help her quite a bit.
When a cat walking across my keyboard makes things happen faster & better than I can figure out on my own by accident, I _know_ I'm not the most tech-savvy person around!
😆 I love it!!!
This really happened: My Snowball stood on my tablet, on a paused RUclips video, causing a pop-up that said *download video?* I thought, _So _*_that's_*_ how I do it!_ I didn't know how to before my baby boy did that! (this was years ago, idk if it works like that now)
Meow 😻.of course 😻plays with the 🐭.
Shirley, you are telling the story of my life! I finally made the smartphone leap three years ago after 14 years with a flip phone (I like the iPhone better than the Android-I can’t figure those out to save my life), and I still have a landline for a variety of practical reasons. Social media? Just RUclips and Snapchat (the latter of which I only post on a handful of times per year). And to think that growing up I used to be the only person in the house who could program the Betamax! Now I’m getting pwned by my stupid all-in-one printer being stuck in a malfunction loop that I can’t get unstuck and the online instructions from “tech support” only serve to give me a headache! I manage the tech at work and the firehouse all right, but I still feel like a trackside hitchhiker trying to hop a ride on a bullet train otherwise!
Like I told some of the guys my age at the firehouse: Nothing like a smartphone to make you feel like a dumbass!
Good on you, dragondancer1814!
I always said I didn't want a phone that's "smarter" than me! 😂
dragondancer1814
…….from one dumbass to another.
We’re getting there, because we have iPhones :)
The last time I picked up my Very old simple Nokia not so smart phone, I had become so used to the advanced iPhone, that I couldn’t even work out how to make a phone call, or even get into it 🤔
I can’t even go back to the simplicity of it all 🙄 😂😂😂
Love everything about this video, thank you Shirley for sharing your mum with us xoxo she is so precious. She is not alone in this new technology world ♥
Thank you!
Yes I agree and have a great day
OMG! I love all of your stuff, but this is my absolute favorite! It actually made me a bit emotional! 😢 I'm 57 years old and I am fairly literate in new technology, but I still struggle and I stress horribly about getting a new cell phone! I work in retail and my job helps keep me sort of up to date, but not nearly enough! Thank you so much for this video! I love your mom too! ❤❤❤❤❤
Thanks so much!
Glad to know I'm not the only one who's getting choked up watching this and reading the comments. I'm 68 1/2 and my 30-yr-old says I'm very tech-literate, even when I scream at the computer and swear my phone hates me. My child's patience with me has to rival mine raising them as a toddler. What goes around... Thank you for this video!
Brilliant! As usual!
Your mum is so sweet!💐
All this "new" technology is a two-edged sword. On one hand it makes me feel sick and sometimes makes me cry. On the other hand I get to watch and listen to and communicate with interesting people all over the world.
So true! Thanks, Karin.
That's exactly how I feel! 🤗
@ ☺️✨
@@anyascelticcreations 🤗✨
Yes, I had to laugh in a scene in Dowton Abbey when they install the new device - the telephone. The elderly Dowager Duchess yells at it and then turns to her grandchildren to say "is this supposed to help or is it torture me?" I feel that way sometimes in the new electronic world, especially with international phone calls. I miss a telephonist and a call system that worked every time"
Brilliant! Then Segway into Pink Floyd... You're an amazing artist. Any more words would be redundant. Ok. One more: "Amazingly brilliant!"
Thank you for this!
Thank you, Birch Leaf!
Brilliant once again, and your mum is adorable!
Thank you so much!
Your Mum is so sweet and cute Shirley. Tech can be overwhelming. I still prefer old school on some things, but I do love my smartphone. Hi from Southern California. Thanks for all the smiles you put on my face.
Thanks so much. My mum used to have an old laptop of mine, and we realised a smartphone would be better for what she does. It was a hard transition but SO much better than battling a laptop!
Wow Shirley, your mum is such a good sport ! 🤩
Great song too.
Words too close for comfort 😂
Well done, yet again 💖
Thanks so much! 😊 She really is a great sport.
Lovely one Shirley. Well produced.
Thank you!
This is so good!!! Your mom is so cute. Over the last couple of years, I’ve helped many older ones with zoom, tablet use and yes their phones. It is such a pleasure to help them😊
Thank you, terry!
terry
You’re so kind Terry! As there are so many of us who need someone with the patience to be able to teach those of us who are a bit slow and lacking in confidence with all of this technology.
You need to be cloned a thousand times or more, or preferably one of you for every state (or suburb here in Australia)… Oh but that’s some heavy duty technology 😬😬😬
Lately it has become almost impossible to get through the day without a "smart" phone. Now you need to check in from your phone for a Dr. appointment or use the phone to scan the QR code to see the menu at a restaurant. Seriously? Can't you just print some up for us old farts?
The other thing nobody mentions about older folks dealing with new tech is that less than perfect eyesight compounds all of the difficulties involved. Tiny little print and drop down menus from tiny little buttons you didn't even see at the edge of the screen. Things get lost in the bifocal line also. Hands that are less than perfectly steady with no arthritis are also less able to find all those tiny touchscreen buttons on the phone.
I like my computer but I would happily go back to a world with no cell phones. There is nothing anyone has to say to me that is so all fired important that it can't wait until I get home.
It's really not easy, is it?
My dad has big fingers and usually finds trouble with every kind of button, even bigger ones. Smartphones aren't so very friendly with him!
I wholeheartedly agree - and I'm 26! The world has gone completely bonkers 🥴

Thank you so much Shirley,
Fantastic !!! And so relatable.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️👍🏻‼️
Greetings from the Netherlands 🇳🇱 ❤️😘
Thank you, Teri Shopaholic!
It was a very sweet cooperation with your mum and you are both fabulous! I just loved it. I am still frustrated with my 'gadgets' tablet, laptop, and the newest smart phone. I know what you mean. I know some things and I do not know many things, and frankly I do not even care to know. Thank you Shirley and Mum! Bye
Thank you!
A great parody song of paint it black and another brick in the wall. The new technology, phones are different now days. Thanks for having your mom on the video.
I just love this parody. And I just know what your mother is going through - my dad, being in his 80's is just refusing to learn anything about the "new tech" even if it's for us already an "old, non-smart" cellphone. 😂
Thank you, Opa Andre! Change can be hard, eh?
@ For me it turned out to be just impossible. I tried it for years to help him. He sticks to his landline phone. And all the "Internet", "Computer" etc. - nothing he want even consider to go into. If he would like to know something he is interested in, he will call me to research it for him. Your mum at least is curious and willing to try... 😉
BRILLIANTLY TRUE. I have dealt with computers since the 60’s, do I know what I’m doing now? Nope, just finding the right button and not touching the screen (that’ll send you into another universe) is taking so much time and effort, I just want a fountain pen and a TV with only 3 or 4 channels. lol 😂
I'm sure my mum will be right with you on that one. I could have done a separate song about the TV remote!
Just great--love your Mom (or Mum?)! ❤
Thank you, Kathy! Here in NZ, we say Mum. But I usually call her Mama. 😁
I found your mum HILARIOUS!! I cry with laughter as I see her yappin away on the left, tippin on her phone, and as she circled the screen around and her sofa blanky was filmed it had me in stitches... She REALLY is good sports!!!
She's wonderful, isn't she?
I absolutely LOVE this video! I see this kind of situation in my online class. I teach English as a second language to adults using Zoom. Many of them cannot even open or close the microphone, even with my guidance! 😂 your mother is a GOOD SPORT here! She’s a NATURAL! 😜 Thank you both for such a fun-to-watch video! 💕🤓💕
Thank you, LunaMMN! Oh yes, I've been in plenty of video calls with 'funky' tech, always due to users!
Another gem, Shirley, thank you! Very, very relatable to me.
Thank you!
JESUS !!! You are truly a woman of genius!! Just after transcripting one of your parodies to guitar I' ve found dozen others and this one is AMAZING!!! Thanks for your creativity and work, you make us laught a lot.
Your mom is adorable, take much care with her and try to be with her all time you can. I lost my mother 6 years ago and would give everything to have her back.
Greetings from Brasil
Thanks so much, Siegfried. My parents have recently moved very close to where I am, and I'm so grateful for it!
Shirley, I love it. My mother once picked out a computer on the basis that she liked the color, then never used it. It was a high tech paperweight!
Thanks, Dan - and oh dear!!
How do you know so much about my wife?
This song perfectly describes her life!
😆
Love this one. Thank you so much you made my morning. 😆😆😆😆😆😃😃😃😃😃😃😄😄😄😄😄👍👍👍🌈🌈🌈🌈🌈
So glad! Thank you, Starfire 777!
Hysterical! Your mom is a great sport! I've been missing my landline a lot lately. I could very easily do without all this technology. I'd miss only two things if I got rid of my phone: 1) GPS, and 2) my word game.
Thank you, Cory!
I just lost my son and you made my crying into laughing. Thank you so much. 🙂
Oh, I'm so sorry, Heather - but I'm glad you could have a wee laugh at this!
May I make a suggestion... make one with dogs and Pink Floyd's the Wall with doggies behind fencing or gate! 😉
Thanks, Louise.
Brilliant yet again! Your mom is so cool. I see where you get your good looks.
😊 thank you
Shirley, YOU are a genius, My Dear.
Your rendition of both of those songs is spot on!
Nothing worse than having to get a new device and try to figure out how it works!
The older I get the more of a pain it is!
Thank you for the levity and thank your Mom for letting you use the video of her!
Your Mom is adorable - and you can just see her sweetness! 🧁
Thank you!
I always thought no-one would change the lyrics to "Another Brick In The Wall", and still make it sound good, but you did it. Congrats. And much respect and love to your mom in the video, she looks as confused as anything. Bless her.
Thanks so much! She was happy to participate and zero acting was required - I just asked her to try to open something on her phone and save an open document on the laptop.
Brilliant 👏 good old pen and paper I say 🤣🤣
My mum would agree with you there!!
Super excited can't wait xoxo
Hope you liked it!
I can relate so much with this song.
I have worked with hands and back most of my life and never used tech to solve problems. Now I sit and look at my phone and think how far I am behind others that understand all this tech.
Enjoy the song greatly thank you.
Thank you, Scruffy 61!
Carolyn, you are an absolute legend. And take heart, this happens to the best of us, even those of us in the know. I work in IT and people above my paygrade and years of experience on a daily basis deal with technology breakages, and when I ask them about the route cause and fix, I know enough jargon to see that their response is "I don't have a clue what went wrong, but we turned everything on and off again, and that seemed to fix it".
She is a legend - I agree. And I know I've often scored the 'in charge of IT' at my job role for precisely that reason - I'm not afraid to unplug, then power up again, and often that fixes the glitch!
Once again --> BRILLIANT!
Give mom a hug from me, all the way from Seattle, ok?

@ You know, I don't what it was like in Austrailia back in the 70s, but , and I'm just a Gen Xer, but even I remember three tv channels with two knobs and you had three channels to choose from(ABC, NBC, CBS) but you had a tv guide to help you choose and let you know what's up next(unless of course the eewww president was on), so yes, this tech crap makes me sick. They are even watching my comments to you just now!!!
The juxtaposition of your deadpan Floyd delivery next to Carolyn being me perfectly captures the mood. Love it. ❤
Thank you, Michelle!
Your mum😻 and you, two brilliant and sweet girls🌺 Thank you for brightening up our days! Much, much appreciated!

I just got my elderly sister a smart phone.... it was too smart for either of us.... but Spark WONT take it back !!! But at least they fixed her old one so we are both happy!!! Thanks for your great videos. Love the cat ones.
I fully empathize. Every time I get a new phone or laptop, the process to activate them gets more involved and complicated. As they force technology into retirement, so goes simplicity. Thank you for the parodies. Your mom is super. You are very talented. I would love to buy a CD of your songs.
Thanks so much!
This song truly reflects the problems faced by the older generation while trying out the latest innovations in technology.Shirley has brought out this beautifully in this number.
Thank you!
Just pure brilliance! You should be on TV. Your mum is a lovely lady and you're sooo good at what you do. You're the best thing on youtube 😂
Wow, thank you!
Can I be adopted by your mom?!? Carolyn you are such a love! You did right in raising your daughter. Beyond talented and funny as all get out! It's great to see you both have such a laugh in this crazy time. Thank you for sharing and making this a better day for it!
Omg,this was brilliant, when my mom retired,my brother's and I got her a IPad,and new phone, now she is on it all the time, LOL

Yeah, we replaced her laptop with a phone years ago - best decision!
I. Am. ROLLING!! Applause 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 to everyone involved in this production, this is hilarious and fantastic! I'm 54, and I'm not quite this bamboozled by the smartphones I've had over the past 10 years, though there's some learning curve. I'm less comfortable with laptops & desktops, but I get by. I still have a landline phone. It's part of my ISP service but prior to that it WAS plugged into my wall and it's a regular phone. I have a cheap Android that I only have to keep with me when I'm out in my car for emergencies. I really don't like smart phones. God bless your mother - what a great sport to do this video!
She really was. Thank you!
Shirley, I just loved it... Thanks for letting us know your mom... She was so good a sport for this, and no bad bone.
Please just carry on... You bring so great a joy. Thanks.

This is awesome! And she is truly genuine. It reminded me of when in the 1980's I bought myself a Smith Corona electric typewriter with some fancy keys on it---(pre-computers and word programs). I came home from work one day and she's at the kitchen table and she was practically snarling at it. She'd hit return and nearly jumped out of her skin. our moms are priceless and I miss her every day.
Funny!!

Another great and so relatable video, Shirley! I love all the benefits that technology brings but am also often baffled by it, and long for the good old days before computers and cell phones. I still have a landline phone and use it often.
Thank you, Margarita. Yes, I hesitated for years when cell phones came out, but now they're so much a part of life!
