Can someone please help me to understand why anyone would give this a thumbs down??? I saw Laurence Juber live in NY a couple of times. Truly unlike anyone else. You would think you are watching 3 guitarist playing at the same time but its just him.. He truly makes the guitar sing.
Brian leavy -- Moron. I'll give you credit for joking, though you may be serious. I tell people who leave 'the ten idiots who gave this a thumbs down have no soul' type comments that those who dislike videos can have odd reasons for doing so. It's easy to assume that they simply didn't like the performance. That's what you'd expect to be evaluated, but people are strange. Most people who make comments of disbelief like crippy's do so not because they feel others aren't entitled to a dissenting opinion, but because in a case like this video the performance is inarguably excellent, and it is indeed difficult to fathom a sentient person finding enough if anything about it to dislike to the degree of clicking on the 'thumbs down' icon. I could try to envision and assume what type of person would find this performance unappealing -- and why -- but that would all be supposition, some of which would probably be very accurate. 'Those people' are just out there. Some are lurking and hating like SuperTrolls. Others truly have the most bizarrely borderline or outright subjectively shitty taste in music. Many more have qualities and differences in preference that defy explanation by 'the rest'. I fully appreciate crippy's sentiment: who the fuck would truly dislike this? There are reasons for that which we will likely never know.
theoriginalbillholt it was sarcasm genius, the fact you went through the effort of typing all that out is just embarrassing, whether or not its excellent makes no difference, I'm sick of those stupid comments about the "12 people who disliked" maybe they hit it by mistake, but people can dislike a video if they fucking want to
What amazes me is this guy rocks up to a guitar shop, picks up a guitar he's never played before and rips this out, probably in one take. Bloody awesome.
Just fwiw, he was the Wings guitarist (Paul McCartney's band) in the late 70s... he has several acoustic albums of Beatles arrangements, it's kinda his bread-and-butter. I saw him do a show here in San Diego in 2017 and the majority of the show was Beatles and Wings arrangements in a crowd of maybe 100 people. It was absolutely mesmerizing, highly recommended.
This is just as good as it gets. A true master - he plays the full neck and barely opens his eyes, talk about control! He makes seasoned guitarists look like novices; incredible.
That's one of the best sounding renditions of In My Life I've ever heard. Imagine if it would've been recorded with something other than a camera mic. Gorgeous 000-45!
...and auto volume control !! Yes, it's really pathetic that these guys who have such a valuable inventory of guitars can't be bothered to invest in a basic, decent audio recording setup. Their videos totally lose the dynamics of the guitars.
Wow that was beautiful 😮 if there were only one song I could play perfectly it would be that, I don't think I'd ever get tired of it. Bravo sir, bravo.
So cool to hear him play his own arrangement. I happen to know how to play his version of it, and am blown away at how effortlessly he makes the transitions from one part to the next. Amazing!
If I may geek out for a second...George Martin was two years old when this Martin guitar was made. (As of today, Nov. 16, 2017): 4 days ago, Mr. Juber turned 65 years old. In My Life was released in '65. That was 52 years ago. Mr. Juber was born in '52. Back to our regularly scheduled programming.
got to have dinner with Laurence and then sit front row at the Woodstock Arts Theater several years ago - what an awesome guy, with GREAT stories - and of course he can play!
Love Laurence. Got to meet him once and watch him play close up. The man put it aptly: He does stuff on a guitar mere mortals cannot do. Would love to see a tab of this somewhere -- who knows, maybe I could actually manage to pull off a chunk of it.
His solo on Let It Be at the Concert for Cambodia blew my mind back in, ...some time in early 80s (79?). He sounded so modern in that tone and phrasings. Sometimes I wonder if Paul didn't get busted in Japan and Wings lasted for another years. If there's one thing that's positive about the Beatles breakup, for me it's in fact that I could always listen to new bands with gorgeous (in the sense of musical skill, not clothes or fame) musicians playing under Paul's musical direction. That's something you couldn't ask for when Paul was with the Beatles. Back to the Egg is still one of my all time favorite albums.
If you're unaware of the vastness of Laurence's musical catalog, I say it is definitely worth looking up. His work with Paul McCartney & Wings is stellar, along with his extensive session work and dozens of fantastic solo albums. Unbelievable musician, on acoustic guitar obviously, *but* also on electric as well.
Why would anyone give this the thumbs down? Jealousy? Beautiful performance of a classic track. Paul certainly knew what he was doing when he brought Laurence into Wings. Goodnight Tonight had some tasty acoustic playing from Laurence during the call and response section with Denny Laine. If my memory serves me correctly,I seem to remember that Denny Laine brought out a guitar tutor book, when actually Laurence was the true guitar virtuoso in the band at that time.

And remember, he's playing it on a guitar that he hasn't played before. Just amazing
cmon, do you think Paul's guitarist is going to need time to settle into a guitar?
As a guitar lover and mediocre player, to see such an amazing player covering such a beautiful song on such an incredible instrument is a true event.
MarcAmAlb I agree incredible playing I'm wondering who the 10 people who disliked this
crippy yeah how dare they voice an opinion!

I just lost some fingernails and after seeing this I think I'll just keep em off.
Well four years ago but I'm gonna answer anyway. You can get this version of In My Life on his album LJ Plays the Beatles

this is truly the greatest piece of acoustic guitar i have ever heard.
Nothing short of beautiful and amazing. Love how he also played the piano part.
Brilliant! I met Laurence Juber at BeatleFest in LA in 1989 and he was super cool and amazing to listen to play.
Such a humble master. He laughs when he gets recognition.
Wow that was beautiful 😮 if there were only one song I could play perfectly it would be that, I don't think I'd ever get tired of it. Bravo sir, bravo.
Can't get enough of this video. My sincere thanks to Norman and co for posting.
I LOVE hearing this man play.
This video still amazes me to this day. What a great player!!!

I am constantly in awe of Laurence Juber' talent.
This is a stunning arrangement.

Check on Tim Van Roy, he has RUclips channel where he is teaching this song, with tabs in it
Simply A M A Z I N G the pathos that this great musician takes from a guitar . THANK YOU

Norm thank you you for having such great players, not just names. By far my favorite. FYI im only 20 and this makes us younger players forever better.

I love that song! BRAVO! Beautifully played!

So beautiful ! Thank you for sharing!
Beautifully played....soul touching music.
Saw Mr. Juber in a church basement 15 years ago. Maybe 30 people. Perfectly intimate night of guitar magic.
Why would anyone give this the thumbs down? Jealousy? Beautiful performance of a classic track. Paul certainly knew what he was doing when he brought Laurence into Wings.
