    I too believe Child's is the thing, mainly for a few more factors. How it happened was quite simple. Before the others went out to test Blair we see Childs on guard but his head nodding off, almost like he's falling asleep. This is logical because at this point they are going maybe close to two days without proper rest. So when the others went out to the shack, Child fell asleep. We we see the inside again we get a shot of the basement door, hinting that is where Blair was. Now Blair thing could have came up and snuck up on Childs. Now look at the 3:19 part in the video, you can see a room to the right. And looking at 3:22 in the video. If you look at the right you can see another door way which is open. Blair thing could have easily snuck up on Childs as he slept.
    Next off when we see Child's nodding off we can see the layout of the coats. Note them. Then when we come back when the door opens the coats placement is different. Could be a proper goof or it could be Childs thing rearranged them when grabbing a new coat.
    Third. Why would Childs go off after Blair alone? Remember when Nauls came back after cutting Mac loose. Mac was trying to get back in. Childs was surrounded by a lot of the guys and they could have blasted Mac easily, yet he refused to do so. Yet he was alone and decided to go after him. Doesn't make sense.
    Finally the last piece of evidence, the bottle Mac is holding in the ending. Now this falls under two categories. The first one, I don't think that was his liquor, or not quite. I think Mac found a bunch of empty bottles and filled them with gas so they could burn better, causing the explosions when he threw them. In the ending when he met with Childs and handed him the bottle. Mac laughed because Childs drank gas, making him realize he was the thing. Now the second part has to do with what Fuchs said earlier about how everyone should eat from cans or prepare their own food. Now if Childs wasn't the thing, then why would he accept a drink from Mac? It could have been contaminated. Yet he did so, and Mac laughed because of this fact that he knew Childs was the thing.
    Those are my observations and hope they help.

    The way you pronounce Kurt’s character .. MACK READY 😆
    I enjoy the ending being nebulous & unclear, making it more thought provoking.
    All this could be possible:
    Child’s coat is the same but snow & ice covered.
    Child’s breath can’t be seen in the low light of that scene.
    MacReady did save a bottle of whiskey because he loves drinking booze.
    OR… it’s all as you say in the video, the unknown makes it better.
    The Thing is one of the best films ever made.
    Not just a great genre film, great film period.

      @CopaExMachina  2 месяца назад +3

      MacReady need a little punching up for how awesome Russell is so we leveled him up the Mack-Ready status.
      Now way the snow turned that dark blue coat white.
      MacReady's breath is like a dragon flaming up the place. Not even a hint from Childs? Even as he talks? Low lights can be blamed for a lot of things, but being a Thing isn't one of them.
      MacReady could have had that bottle on hand because he loves drinking booze. What does he love while drinking booze? Some mutually assured destruction (the chess scene proves this). That's not a bottle of booze, that his nuclear arsenal.

    Childs is human. Mac told Childs that if he saw Blair without them, burn him. Childs thought he saw Blair, so he went out. There was no mess of assimilation in the room. Childs is wearing the same coat, it's just under different lighting. Mac's breath is steaming, and Childs' isn't? Well, Bennings-Thing's breath clearly was steaming. It's again just the lighting. If the bottle was a molotov, then why was Mac about to take a sip before Childs walked up on him? The Thing would absolutely know what gasoline tastes like. It absorbs all the memories of its victims, which is how it mimics them perfectly.
    Here's a better theory: Mac and Childs are both human, but the Thing IS still out there. Because of Bennings. When the Thing assimilates someone, it consumes their mass and spits out a duplicate. When Bennings was assimilated by Split-face, it didn't get to finish the process because Windows interrupted it. So it made a strategic sacrifice of the partially assimilated Bennings. you think the Bennings-Thing put that coat on with those hands? Split-face helped it, then sent it into the snow to die, while Split-face hid. Split0face then assimilated Blair, attacked Fuchs in the dark, and was probably what Childs saw when he left the bunker. And it's still out there.

      First of all the amount of detail you got going on here makes me think The Thing is your favorite movie of all time. Second, you're dead wrong about your favorite movie of all time. Let me prove it to you, in the video I said "this is bulletproof evidence". More proof - Mac was about to take a drink of Airwolf juice because he wanted to warm up, he was clearly freezing out there in the snow. Next piece of proof - John Carpenter stated he deliberately shot MacReady heavily back-lit to show his breath and to not show Childs's. John Carpenter never lied to us before. I don't think he did this just to throw us off. What do you think? How right am I now?

    2. Childs is armed with a flamethrower at the end. MacReady is armed with a blanket and a bottle. If Childs is the Thing, there is no reason for him to pretend to _NOT_ be the Thing at that point. He could just open up his face, shoot out a tentacle, and what the hell could unarmed MacReady even hope to do about it? Just like he said earlier in the movie. "I know I'm human. And if you were all these Things then you'd just attack me right now, so some of you are still human."

    Childs does breathe at the end as he reaches for the bottle, whether or not that was a mistake by the actor that was caught on film because MacReady was shown to be exhaling a lot with backlighting to prove a point that he was breathing and Childs not at all?
    Childs also had the earring in which the alien cannot duplicate but in saying so he may have learned to put it back in? Another interesting point that MacReady laughs and the theme music starts after Childs drinks. Is this because it is gasoline or Mac contaminated the drink knowing now Childs is contaminated as well? 42 years later still debating is a great movie.

    • @CopaExMachina
      @CopaExMachina  2 месяца назад

      In all honesty, I think the Chess Wizard computer scene is the key. MacReady has to play chess. He has lost (meaning he knows he's going to die out there) but he poured the drink into the computer (Childs Thing) for some carefully crafted, mutually assured destruction.
      The Thing continues to haunt us with its ambiguity and paranoia to this day. 1982 was one hell of a year for movies and for awesome people with great RUclips channels being born.

If you look at the physical attributes of the coat, it's the same. The lack of breath vapor I'll buy, but the drink at the end, while plausible, is a little thin. @minotaur878 3 дня назад

      @@CopaExMachina Except nobody at the camp knew what the thing was at that stage, so the risk towards the thing being caught at that stage was extremely low, and the thing was still learning about the humans there. Once Blair had revealed what it was, and once the blood was found to be emptied by the humans, the thing took every opportunity to either survive, kill or assimilate. So you can't really use that for comparison.
      The thing at the very beginning presumably wasn't that familiar with dogs beyond the one it assimilated at the Norwegian base, and wasn't expecting them to sense through its disguise in a way that humans couldn't. And they still weren't sure what it was capable of until the thawed out thing assimilated Bennings. But all of the events in the film show the thing learning very quickly, and being very adept at surviving.
      In that ending scene, Macready was extremely high risk. He knew what the thing was capable of, and had just used explosives to destroy the entire camp. He could have easily still had dynamite on him, or still have his flamethrower. Childs approaching him= high risk he gets blown up with Macready, and then there's no thing to be discovered by a future rescue team. Doesn't make sense for a thing to not immediately assimilate Macready if it approached him. In fact the best option would be to not approach at all, wait for Macready to freeze, and then find the best spot on the camp to place itself for the future rescue team.
