    Much as I'd love a sequel, I'd settle for a remake of the game [now that the tech is more caught up with the original premise,] and a "De-digitised" release of the prequel with all the practical effects [and the pilot-thing] returned to how they were meant to be.
    Despite the terrible CGI, I still like the prequel and enjoy watching it and then the 80's film in that order as it tells one single story that way [and displays an evolution in the creatures intelligence in relation to how much danger it perceives humans to be to its survival, necessitating the subterfuge of the 80's film.]

      Yep. Just take a look at behind the scenes and making of material. Even the biggest stuff like sets that they could’ve done all in CGI was done practically, which are in the movie, but small stuff like the xenomorphs got completely CGI’d over unfortunately.
      I’m not totally against CGI, there are certain moments it is necessary, else it’s too obvious that it’s just a suit or a puppet, but they overdid it. They need to give props more recognition and less use of CGI, or at least know how to use it instead of just throwing a digital doll around.

I've seen the interview of the makers of the practical effects, and they are sooo disgusted with how their work has been taken from them, and badly transformed into some boring animations. In retaliation, they made the film''Harbinger Down'', just to show people how good a horror film can be with practical effects. Also, ''Harbinger down'' fits quite well as a kind of sequel to ''The thing''. Very underated film.

  • @nothere1578
    @nothere1578 5 лет назад +19

    In my opinion, The Thing (video game) is the perfect sequel to The Thing (1982). Not only does it keep the Thing as terrifying as it was in the 1982 movie, but now it has become an even bigger threat as it's duplicates have little to no concern for themselves in combat while it's disguised duplicates still try to lay low and infect everything they come into contact with.
    I also love the idea that neither Childs or MacReady was infected and because of that, Childs dies due their paranoia of each other. It adds a nice touch of irony in the fact that one of them was so unsure if they won or not, he decided to freeze to death instead of going with the other to find help.

      @@fcon8507 The game did get a PC port. Sadly, unlike another similar game at the time (Deus Ex) the PC port of The Thing is not an upgraded PS2 version. It's the same thing.
      However, there is a tiny but loyal fan community that did develop mods for the game. One mod removes the triggers to "thing-ify" your teammates, and another added in a chance system every time they got attacked so that they could be infected the way they should have to begin with.
      The only downside is that if your engineer gets infected, and you need him, you're fucked. Especially if you save after he's infected but before he turns.

    could easily get past and rework the "weaponize the alien and use it to super soldier myself" arc aswell XD something simple like a usa quarantine studying and evaluating the threat/researching a immunisation in case it does reach mainland but it escapes coz well it is the thing after all, still a better story than evil guy tries to use it to seize power

I remember buying/playing this game when it first came out - was so excited!! never finished the game for got stuck at a certain point and could never figure out what to do - forget where in game and/or circumstances. Think the part that got me POed about this game was that no matter how many times you tried to take care of your team mates: i.e. - give them shots, weapons, whatever, THEY ALWAYS TURNED!!!!!!! Came to the point that I would keep all the stuff for myself and use the team mates to accomplish whatever mission, then would quickly kill them off. Saw no sense wasting valuable resources since they were to turn anyways.

    Really though I remember this being a solid game. The trust mechanic really had me wondering more than a few times. I was lucky enough to not have the illusion of a dynamic system ruined during my rental. I remember the box claiming that it was indeed dynamic.
    The only way to avoid having the main character be immune would be to have a cure mechanic that you have to implement when you're getting infected. He has to stay clean because you have to play as him. It's really asking too much to avoid that cliche.

    As far as I'm concerned the 1982 shouldn't have a direct sequel. Even with a slightly ambiguous ending, that Thing encounter seems pretty resolved... but there could be some other Things out in the universe who come into contact with Earth :O

      @linop2 4 года назад

      Or you know a search and rescue team who arrive to see why loss of contact has persisted so long and find the all the corpses. Maybe a warning. Just no evidence of Childs or McCready only the fact that they aren't there, which a log of personnel would at least show they're supposed to be.

    Well, the game isn't really a "sequel". And neither are the comics, though I Loved them. And John Carpenter has explicitely said on his own twitter that one of the survivors is indeed The Thing. This contradicts both the video game and the comics. Also, if you have heard the comments of the movie makers of what "hints" they put in, read the script, and remember MacReady's game vs CPU, you'll pretty much know who The Thing is in the end.

      @@randyramirez4408 Not as much as MacReady's. You gotta understand that despite the movie is a masterpiece, it is still quite on budget and on tech that was available at time and at that kind of weather. So despite your sincerest efforts and deadlines you gotta keep, you can't make it work 100%. You can however follow the clues the movie makers told you to follow, which was what they could do at best at that time. Childs has different clothing than he had while standing guard as well. He was neither as tired, nor "frostbitten" as MacReady. That he trusted MacReady, especially drinking from same bottle given the situation and threat they've been in is absolute nonsense. No sane HUMAN being would do such a thing. If you listen to the music score itself, the theme of The Thing, it sounds as a human heartbeat... but doesn't quite get it right. Same is with Childs. Things simply don't add up. The Thing doesn't know how to smile, how to laugh... those are human emotions. It itself is a deceptive predator. it is an infiltrator. It is there to gain your trust and assimilate you, and it uses methods for you to invite it to do so. I'll stop replying to these The Thing topics, and it was probably a mistake to start discussing to begin with.
