Those 2 plates sticking out of the stern are to help you get out of the water if you fall in, I think they are required for all new build boats now.

Ha Ha it’s the wild life that would stop me having a narrow boat. I know that I now live in Australia where everything is trying to kill or eat you but mostly they stay out of your house. Keep the videos coming I look forward to them.
Yeah it's quite the shocker when you buy one of these boats, they seam to love them and want to join you on them as there home too haha

Great Vlog Chris, you really have a great sense of humor, and are still able to convey what needs to be done on the boat. And…you actually did some pretty impressive DIY….well that may be a bit of an exaggeration 😂😅. Becca is really handy, love to see what she is working on. While Becca is working away building things I think it is time bring on the Maverick for the hatch doors, the bathroom, the floor, the bedrooms, the Urinal Sink, etc etc. I think the cratch cover is going to look good and be very practical. In all seriousness I really enjoy your Vlogs. Thanks for putting the time and effort into sharing them. Now watch out for spiders and horseflies. 😱 🙏😊🤗 Kathy

In the past wood was charred on a fire to give preservative properties. This technique is still especial'y by those building cabins off grid.

Nice work Bec's on the work tops with doing Shou sugi ban ( Wood grain burning) . Ps , Did you know that you can dye the timber different colours too . Do a bit research on the old RUclips.

Becca, Chris, Loving Becca's burning the wood effect. Those plates at the stern, sometimes are below the water line as well, to help one get out of the water. Great video Guys, all is looking good. Take care.

Hi guys, regarding your side hatches, Yale make locking sliding bolts with keys to unlock, fitted to the top and bottom of the lead door with the outside lip. The locking bolt sides up into wooden framework (need to drill some holes for the sliding bolt to fit into. Hope that helps 😁

That's a great idea, we need the boat going through the metal really or the lock is only as strong as the screws which isn't alot, we have some small locks on there which are fine for the marina but I doubt they would hold up to much if under attack for a while haha thank you
YES! - If You put your false-teeth in a glass of water over-night, remember to cover it with a bit of card or something, because the Spiders drink from them if they can't find a human mouth to suck the saliva from ... And they leave their little 'deposits' in the water for you .... Much like the one's they leave on the corner of your mouth after they've supped .... Just Sayin' 😂🤣😂

Hi both, also to add the 2 plates at the back of your boat are also rudder stops, having had 6 boats the secret I found is ,one room at a time, once that's finished move on to the next, do not rush your jobs take your time and it will work out. Enjoying your videos liking the good humour
yes I think your right with that, 1 room at a time would have been a far better idea, its just because we didn't realise how much of the bilges we had to treat for rust, oh ok rudder stops thats interesting someone said they were for safety if you fell in and all boats need them now too, thanks for joining us David see you on the next one :)

Nice to bring forth the texture by burning the wood slightly! Rubber strip would perhaps be something for the hatches. Just to block out the winter storms

We had carpet on our narrowboat walls. It was brilliant insulation during the cold months. Have you considered fixing ply over the top of the carpet and painting the ply? It will help keep the boat cosy.
Never really thought of that,it would probably help actually, unfortunately iv already ripped a whole load off , cozy is definitely the way we want to go cheers Rick
Hot water tank, Make sure the stove works. Shower/bathroom. Times cracking on soon be winter. 😎

I'd plan to get rid of the gas boiler.... solid fuel all the way to save costs.... I've got through 2 bottles of gas in 10 days with Gas heating...
yes I think the plan would be to use the heating with solid fuel...I have heard there very heavy on energy but will see I suppose when we get the shower up and running again Cheers :)
Bits sticking out the back are usually under the water and are used to help climb back on the boat

I think it’s the plywood that you faced the doors with.
unfortunately I think it was doing it also when we had the the doors off, possibly not as bad though, it definitely hasn't helped

Why are you fitting a Calorifier if you are considering a combination boiler ?.
thanks for your question Doug, we defiantly want to use the energy from the engine, it seams silly not to, hot water and heating on the boat, we dont want to use the aldi for heating really maybe just for a last resort ,we have heard these Aldi boilers are very costly if you use them for everything, we haven't had the chance to fully test it yet, but yes I know what your saying, we probably need to discuss it a bit more and work out what we want to do :)
Aldi boiler is bad. I have one and like others got through a bottle of gas in a weak.
I am worried about this, possibly use a calorifia (have I spelt that right haha) for the hot water and use the aldi as a back up?
@@TheNomadicCrobot Of course yeah I have 3 hot water systems actually - my instant gas boiler and an electric Ariston boiler under the sink. When we are on the shoreline I run the Ariston boiler.

Ah… Hello Crew… More useless tips… 9:33 - Don’t use a Wire Brush - AAAGH! 12:34 You’ve already used it!! Noooo! Use Stainless Wire Wool (and no, you don’t make shiny jumpers out of it) If you use normal steel wool, bit’s will rust in the wood but stainless won’t.. Should be able to get some from the Fix of the Screw or from the Q of the B...
Thanks for the advise, I will endeavour to remember that for the future! I had looked into it and lots of people suggested the wire brush so I thought nothing of it! Right I'm off to the shops to go get myself some stainless wire wool 🙃
@@TheNomadicCrobot Great.. It's ADVICE; not ADVISE!! Stainless wool (baa) is great and having a Freeman 22/2 is about the only thing you can prep the wood without damage prior to varnishing. Must say, I REALLY like the grey carpet inside - I'd keep it....Or how about going RETRO? Oooh, orange and a green stripes (you;ll be sick) Don't forget a spare dual-network windy-windy thing and also a spare EA key on which you will invest £15 of your hard-earned toil... As always... more to follow :-)
