  • Hello everyone!!!
    This week I head over to Hertford to take out a lovely canoe for the day and to head off for a wild camp somewhere along the river….
    The weather was beautiful and the nature along the river was thriving… All was going well on the river Lea.. I stopped off for a pint before carrying on the journey, I passed through a lock with a narrowboat, portaged the other…
    I moored up to check my phone for a few minutes when I looked up and disaster happened.
    check out Campbell canoes for some built to last, expertly handworked canoes.

    Fair play to you dude for staying so calm. I paddle on the Ouse and the Cam and encounter pissed up boaters regularly who either don’t notice me or don’t t give a fuck. I love a beer and a puff when I’m on the river but you need to stay in control and show respect for the environment and other people. Love your vids mate, keep it up!

    Very politely ended on that video, Craig. TBH, I may not have been so chilled. Just how I am with my channel.
    I am glad you came out of the water safely along with your kit.
    Fair play to Campbell Canoes for coming out and I suspect there is a Pt.II coming. I hope so!

    You'll always get that on the canals, that's why nobody uses GRP boats on the canals , narrow boats are tanks and they treat them like bumper cars, hire boats are the worst for it , have a go Kevin's on the tiller, top off and a stella . Stick to the rivers, river folk have more respect👍

    I've spent a lot of time on the river, My folks had a nice modern cruiser and I had a racing kayak. Wonderful times. I've been considering a canoe for river camps for a while now. I will say it though, Yes we liked a drink but no we didn't drink and sail. You could have been injured or killed. Hope he pays for the damages and learns his lesson. Stay Safe, All the best.

    I actually own and live on a narrowboat and I can understand how sometimes a narrowboat can't see you but you were moored up in clear view with plenty of room for them to manoeuvre around you also I'd ask what speed they were approaching the lock with because they should have been in tick over less than 4mph

    • @EastAnglianBushcraft
      @EastAnglianBushcraft  13 дней назад +2

      There were some fisherman a couple hundred metres down river from me and they both came up and knew straight away it was that boat and said he was going pretty fast down the river causing waves that were splashing over the bank and nearly
      Took out their rods aswell 😅. Yeah he wasn’t even pointing at the lock he would’ve gone straight into the bank

    • @nathanberry4339
      @nathanberry4339 13 дней назад +1

      @@EastAnglianBushcraft boats should only be approaching locks in tick over any other speed is bad practice as they can crash into the gates and narrowboat take a while to come to a stop or slow down and have no steering in reverse , I always approach a lock in tick over then give it a kick of reverse so I'm barely moving forward I dont understand how they couldn't see you and how they even managed to hit you there , if they were going into the lock properly then they would have been a good few feet away from you at a very gentle speed theirs only two companies in the UK that manufacture lock gates which is partly why it's always best for boats to take so much care going into a lock

  • @Iceni_Paul
    @Iceni_Paul 14 дней назад

    That was an awful bit of luck there bud, glad you weren’t injured. Surely if the guy driving the boat had had a skinful then he should be reported? Isn’t it illegal to be drunk in charge of a vessel? The River Lea brings back some memories, I remember my Gran taking me to visit some of our distant family on the Lea, they lived in the lock-keepers cottage at Rammey Marsh (Near Waltham Abbey), this was about 40 odd years ago mind. Anyway, better luck next time, give us a holler if you’re planning a paddle up the Waveney one day, would love to dust my 14 footer off and join you.

    Hi 👋 i got a question . Is it possible to travel across country using just river ways. Norwich to the river Thames for example. I got inspired by all these wild camping and paddling videos . I think it's a good way to de-stress . I like the idea of booking some time off work. getting my kayak out. setting off from a nearby river and paddling off on an expedition somewhere 😅 not sure if it's possible ?
    River trails 🤔
    I got most the gear now. Getting Cambridge kayak beginning of next month then I'm booking time off 😊

    I just hope he does pay, I had an incident 40 odd years ago on my motor bike, someone pulled out and shunted me sideways, totally his fault. Didn’t call the police, then when I rang him a few days later for him to pay my insurance excess…”not my fault, blah blah blah, going to fast, blah blah blah” Absolute w⚓️! I actually gave bikes up when I’d had it back for a week and another t*sser drove into the back of me, then raced off. I gave chase, got in front, slammed my brakes on to stop him in traffic- absolutely fuming. Jumped on his bonnet after he tried to drive off, police involved. At that point I just though, enough enough, never road a motor bike since ( apart from in India, illegally… not that it matters there if you have a few rupee in your wallet).😉😗
