These L322s from 06-09 are some of the best. It annoys me how many RUclipsrs do not make videos on these era of RRs. They are super reliable.(for a Land Rover) Mine has 198k miles. I daily drive the vehicle. Maybe not the smartest idea, but it run and shifts perfect. I maintain it myself and have NEVER been left stranded on the side of the road (knock on wood). I plan on keeping this car for while and then either getting another one from this era or getting a newer 2010-2012 5.0 supercharged.
The jag 4.4 is the best land rover engine. My ‘06 has 306,000 miles and running strong as a daily driver. I use a qt of lucas at every 6000 mile oil change
Is the 4.4 a lot more reliable? Have the chance to buy a one owner 5.0 (not super charged) 98k miles from a friends mom, very good condition, all maintenance done at dealership. For a cheap price. Worth it?@@AddictedMotors
Love RR's. I just got another 07 L322 for less than seventeen hundred still in good condition, but willing to throw in an extra 5,000k for repairs and upgrade. Be a Range Rover enthusiast first, good engine and transmission second, and then buy as cheap as possible third.
I've had a 08 RR HSE for 10 years now with about 120k on it and have never had any issues other than normal service. Never left me stranded and the only ever issues were replacing fuel filter, sway bar end links, a few hoses and a gas cap. But I also swapped the air bag suspension with coil over kit from atlantic british when I first bought it.
"Even if it was maintained meticulously there will still be problems." This is the case with every single old car I've ever bought. Sometimes I wonder if it is even worth seeking out an expensive vehicle with a good body/interior- maybe better to just buy something a bit more rough for way less money. Then you can fix everything yourself that will inevitably be hiding on the the really shiny one.
My father-in-law gave us his 04 Range Rover to give to our son (his grandson age 16) as a first car. Wow, how cool we thought. It had only 84k for mileage and the body is in excellent shape. We thought with some expected maintenance, it’s much better than purchasing a new car for 25k plus. Well, as of today, we’ve had to donate over 20k of our bank account to fix this thing. Every 60 days, something broke on this car. We are so far into this thing now, I can’t sell it! The reputation for these things are 100% accurate. And I did have the car serviced at a certified Range Rover Garage, not the dealer, so repairs were much less than a dealership.
If it's an 04, it probably had the BMW V8 in it. BMW bought Land Rover and decided for the new model, the L322, that they'd swap a lot of parts for BMW ones and keep some Land Rover ones. It didn't work. It was when they put the Jaguar V8 in it, and sorted out some other issues, that these models really came good. I have a 1995 P38 model. 4.6 litre Rover V8. 137,000 miles. Brilliant machine! It only cost me £1350. And here in England, I have a great old school Land Rover mechanic. When it goes in for service, I ask him to look over everything to see if there are any potential problems. It has never let me down.
Change the shift solenoids in the valvetronic unit within the transmission. Will shift like new. Rolling over 300,000 miles this month on my 06 with probably about 5k in yearly maintenance. I have owned five land rovers and currently own 2. 06 through 09 are the best trucks they ever made for the full size
@@kusayhameid1987 It’s a heavy vehicle. You’re gonna eat tires and brakes and bushings. If you actually do the things that the truck needs and fix the incidental stuff with genuine parts all the way up to 300,000 miles it’s not a cheap ride. Do a couple of $1200 jobs on the truck and buy a set of tires and you’re pretty much there. Some years are less. It is my daily driver by the way
@@sarahdell4042 it is indeed a high maintenance vehicle. Some years a little less, but the truck will keep asking for parts as long as you own it. I just did my third replacement of front air struts on this truck- close to 2k. Comes with the territory. There are many 1-2k jobs on an older Land Rover. To keep it riding like it should, you will do many jobs. I have owned 5 land rovers, and Honestly, I would say that unless you have some mechanical inclination, it is a hobby for you, or you just don’t care about the money, then run, run away
@@scotthardin29 I’ve owned various land rovers but an average of 5k a year seems high. I’ve owned exotic cars that were cheaper to keep going than landys though :(
Like the video but I point out 1-owner cars break, and stuff happens that does not get reported to CarFax, and 1-owners sell for a reason. Land Rover is for a cadre of people who love them. When you love something or someone, you put up with alot. : )
good points. if you want a reliable 20 yr old car, buy an old 1 owner corolla. And it might still need some work, albeit cheaper to repair. Buying any 20 yr old car should entail some common sense (and a repair budget).
Thanks for this great advice on these RRs. What is your average monthly or yearly insurance cost for these vehicles in your State? I'm a safe CDL driver with multiple cars and discounts and got quoted for $200 per month in Florida.
Land Rover has taken this planned obsolescence thing a bit further than other car makers. For the price point, it should at least be reliable for the first 300k miles
I'm really torn on these things. I feel like 90% of the car is excellent but the other 10% is really really bad. They had so much room in that big engine bay to make it easy to work on, but then they did a bunch of stupid shit like running the AC line over the valve cover, and tucking the starter up under the exhaust. On the other hand, servicing the tranny and 4wd system is incredibly easy. The interior really isn't up to the caliber of other luxury cars of this era in my opinion.
Looking at an 08 l322 4.2 jag supercharged engine with less than 100k miles. Little hesitant. What would yearly maintenance cost look like? Has new breaks, rotors tires (like new). Upgraded headliner. All service recorded, one owner. Cost is High teens
@@AddictedMotors thanks for feedback. Hit a deer, totaled out my 4Runner. Ugh. Thing ran like new. Not sure about the LR yet. Feels like I would be rolling the dice.
I have a question that I feel you could answer better than 99% of people. I had a mechanically sound l322 2007 range rover with 140k miles that got hit about two weeks ago. Insurance company totalled it out and offered 7k. I'm looking at about 2-3k in suspension repairs. Heres where you would be a big help as I saw you purchased a Tahoe LT. Do I buy it back for 3k and put 3k into it or do I spend 4,500 on a very well maintained 2000 chevy tahoe Z71 with 200k miles? Any help would be beautiful. Thank you very much.
**Some mechanical advice needed: I own a 2013 LR4 with 112,000 miles (ZF 6 speed trans). Transmission filter + fluid have never been changed. Thoughts on changing trans filter + fluid as preventative maintenance? Should I drain/change “all” of the fluid at once, or do it in small increments over a short period of time so the clean fluid mixes with the old (heard this might help with high mileage transmissions that have never had a fluid change) . Im learning as I go but definitely need advice on this one.
I have a 2011 LR4 which has the same ZF6HP transmission as yours. I just did a transmission service at 160k miles bc I started to experience a judder in 3rd gear. Pull the pan and drain as much of the fluid as you can. There are kits available that replace the OEM plastic pan that has the filter built-in with a more serviceable metal pan and a separate filter.
