Inside jokes are what really makes a special moment in film. Like in Airplane, when Leslie Nielsen says "I guess I picked the wrong day to quit doing "
Forgive me, but.. I know I don't have the superior intellect and education as you.. but.. are you dumbing me because your wife is not sleeping with you?
I just LOVE how they spend so long being totally oblivious to the whole thing, even to the point where lucky gets shot and he walks up and chastises the guy. One of the best movies EVER.
The premise of actors finding themselves in a real version of the situation they have only portrayed as actors is hilarious. "Galaxy Quest" did a similar thing.
@@nicholasrawlins7115 True! I never thought about A Bug’s life. All great movies and family friendly movies that are also very funny. As much as I love this movie Galaxy Quest is just as good.
The last time I watched this was back in high school, around 1999 and it was the 100th time I saw it. Watch one clip in 2019 and cant stop laughing, man what a classic!!
The fact that the director and special effects guys didn't even attempt to make it look like they were actually riding the horses makes it that much funnier.
I think it is. Literally everyone I know likes or loves this movie. It's arguably all 3 of their greatest pieces of work (although Chevy's Fletch and Steve's Trains, Planes and Automobiles are up there too).
The seriousness of the situation combined on how the grown men start crying like they're cowards, not even trying to hide their tears, like they're going to throw up, or have a breakdown and curl up right there... it's played for comedy, but let's be honest. If it were us, we'd have the exact same reaction. Steve Martin knows this, and he nails it.
One of my dad's old buddies from WWII was an extra in the movie, and he took my dad out to the set (it was way out in the desert) and besides getting to meet all the guys, he was MOST impressed with the CATERING tent. Lobster, steaks, everything you'd probably imagine stars would get was there. That's what he most remembered about the experience.
Still yet, it destroyed the other running big ticket movies came out same weekend. Golden Child-Eddie Murphy, Heartbreak Ridge-Clint Eastwood. And Siskel and Ebert were way off and missed this one.
With that medal on El Guapo you can tell he was probably in the Mexican military and went rogue and those were all his boys who followed like in, Apocalypse Now. The Three Amigos are like, sorry we’re just actors, let us leave this mess.
I like how it doesn't take Lucky very long to figure out everything is real. Usually in comedy movies like this, it takes way too long and requires way too many obvious signs for the main characterrs to figure out they are in a real-world situation. It's better when they don't dwell on that for too long.
I remembered seeing this movie when I was a kid but I forgot the name and the only bit I remembered from the movie was the dialogue "you will die like dogs". Didn't expect to get this in my search results but google didn't disappoint me
@@mattmarzula Oh come on, Martin Short is great in this movie and he's even better in Innerspace. Steve Martin is entertaining in every movie he's ever been in, just watch him in Little Shop of Horrors and tell me that's not some of the most entertaining shit ever. And of course, Chevy Chase, who might be a total douchebag on set, but National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation is beyond compare!

"El Guapo" is one hell of a character. I loved the guy in the movie.
He was terrific in "Romancing the Stone." Great, but under-rated movie
The crying scene is priceless.

They should come out with a Mexican pickup truck called the Plethora.

The look of absolute internal panic on Steve Martin's face when he realized it was real is pure comic gold.

Well back in that time some studios still used live ammo instead of blanks. The actors aimed a few inches away from bodies.
"What're we gonna do?"
