I just bought the Silver Sky last week. First of all I have 3 American Strats already. And they all sound different as well. I've had a few good sessions with the PRS. It's a whole different playing experience. Don't know why but the PRS feels like it has less string tension. I went and tightened up the springs on the tremolo right away. I like it. And you are right. The pickups are way more focused. I think it's easier to play.
I just bought the SE Silver Sky in Moon White and it should arrive to me in a week. I own 3 three beautiful top of the line MIM Classic 50's/60's Nitro Stratocasters that i absolutely love. I was looking to Buy a Strat body in Vintage White and order a Fender American Rosewood Neck 7.5 direct from fender and construct my own parts caster. But there isn't any Vintage White Nitro Bodies around on the net at the moment ie. (I was looking for that "Ingmway Malikstein" used body but none at the moment). Then i saw the SE Silver Sky Moon White and was like "this might be interesting and work for me". Ordered it and I have my fingers crossed, if it's not pleasing it will be on Reverb for sale the next week after I get it, and the search will continue for a Nitro Strat Body in Vintage White without a mark on it! Thank you,
I think the Fender sounded better to my ears after listening to them with headphones. On the clean side I thought the Silver Sky sounded too bassy with an hollowness. The Fender just seemed clearer and a little more articulated. On the dirty chanel they seemed a bit closer but I still preferred the A guitar.
I agree, the strat sounded better to me too. In position 1 and 2 I think the Silver Sky sounded a little fuller but overall I preferred the strat. The Silver Sky has some cool features though.
@@onemoreguitarchannel I'm sure the features are nice in terms of design. The one thing I really like is the heel to comfortably reach higher frets. But at the end of the day I'm really after the tone. I fender does it well since they have been doing it for so many years
The Silver Sky is a whole different playing experience. I had to take some high end off the Bridge pup to use it. The second tone pot is hooked to the bridge and middle which Is a mod that I did to all 3 of my Strats. So far I like it and I am able to use the Tremolo arm with out it going out of tune badly. I like it.
Wow, we got a bonus video this week, I like it. The Stratocaster sounded louder and clearer to me. Remember when I was asking you about "tone" well, if I'm understanding it and hearing it and tone being subjective to personal preference I like the tone of the Stratocaster over the Silver Sky. Maybe it's because for decades I've heard Stratocasters on the radio, in concerts, CD, VHS tapes, cassettes, 8 tracks, (I'm showing my age here), so my ears are conditioned and accustomed to its sound and tone. As far as the features, I lean towards the Silver Sky especially the adjustable trem bar. Either way both are really nice sounding and looking guitars that I wouldn't mind owning either one or both like some fortunate and gifted guitar players who can do reviews on their you tube channel.😄
Haha thanks DM! I am very fortunate to be able to do this, and sharing it makes it worth doing! I agree, to get that classic strat sound the best option is a strat. I think this guitar is dialed into JM’s sound which makes sense. It’s a nice sound but not the same as a strat.
@@onemoreguitarchannel Oh, I forgot to mention, for whatever trivial value it's worth or maybe just useless information but before the 8 track tapes there was 4 track tapes and my dad had a reel to reel which is a long, long time ago.
@@hwnfrd I recently got a few boxes of 8 tracks but I don’t have a player haha! I also got a heck of a 45 collection from my grandad. He grew up near Memphis and loved old rock n roll and country!
@@onemoreguitarchannel I remember those 8 and 4 track tapes would get caught up in the deck and you also have to loosen up the tape by kinda tapping it when it got to tightly wound plus the foam guides would deteriorate and the tape became useless after that. Such good memories of technology gone by. I don't have any of my 8 track tapes left but I also still have quite a bit of 45s and lp's.
Nice video Kyle. I have the Clapton signature series Stratocaster but if I ever think about getting another S style guitar I would consider this guitar.
I’m with you, I prefer the strat sound overall. I think the Silver Sky does the Clapton/Knopfler/Mayer sound well though. Yeah it’s a rosewood neck, it felt odd at first but now that I’ve played it for a few years it’s worn in some and feels great!
Fender won my ears by a landslide. The tone was tighter, fuller and more crisp. It just seemed to resonate with a much more fulfilling clarity than the silver sky to me.
Yeah I like the strat sound too. I haven’t tried a Sire but the Silver Sky feels better than a CV to me, and I like the CVs. I’d have to hear them side by side to make a call on the sound.
Nice comparison video Kyle. I did the choice of A and B . Honestly, I like both in sound and looks. If I had my choice I, like you, would own both. I agree they each have their own unique sound. But if forced to choose one I'd choo the SSSE due to price. I still love the Strat tone though. Enjoy them both brother. As I'm sure your going to.

Thanks, Kyle. This was the best comparison video I have seen on the Silver Sky SE. I loved the sound of guitar A over guitar B and was worried that the reveal would be that the Silver Sky was A. I was relieved to find that I do not have to replace my Stratocaster! :-) The only place I preferred the Silver Sky's sound was on the bridge pickup with dirt. Everywhere else the Strat just sounded crisper and more complex. The Silver Sky sounded thuddy.
Thanks! Yeah it definitely doesn’t have the same snap or articulation (as Raid mentioned in another comment) as the strat. The Silver Sky has some cool stuff and its worth checking out, but it’s no strat replacement. When I heard the comparison the first time I thought I must have done a bad job recording it so I did it all over again…same results haha. Compressed was the best word I could come up with.
Your strat is very nice it's a winner, the Silver SKY is a good guitar just a step down from the Fender, thanks for the video I think I'll stick with Fender

Isn't the Silver Sky SE half the cost of the Fender American Professional? A better comparison would have been the Player series Strat.

The Fender is unsurprisingly much brighter, The PRS is warmer and darker. Both are good pickups, just voiced very differently.

Yeah I like the strat sound too. I haven’t tried a Sire but the Silver Sky feels better than a CV to me, and I like the CVs. I’d have to hear them side by side to make a call on the sound.
The Strat was best overall. But there were some specific sounds you worked through on the Sky that sounded good also. Maybe more flavor specific.
Yeah that’s what I was thinking too, the Silver Sky seems kind of niche.
I don’t much care for the Sliver Sky but that Silver Sky is sweet!
