True and I Agree About Howard Cosell and He Always Said Sometimes Dumb Things In Sports During Football and Baseball But U Had To Respect Him No Matter What!
Nope Niederman and I'm from Micheals era. Cosell was a self-important blowhard, and egomaniac. He was advanced by his landsman in the media at ABC, first on NYC ABC flagship local radio way back in the early 60's, then the network. He was frequently wrong about all sorts of things (including the East German Communist regime's doping its Olympic athletes---He actually called it McCarthyism to call them on it) and used Cassius Clay/Mohammed Ali as his meal ticket to notoriety. "Respect Him"? For what??? Now, Al Michaels, that's class, and competence. He's due respect.
As New York sportswriter Jimmy Cannon put it, "Here's a guy who changed his name and put on a hairpiece, and tries to convince the world that he 'tells it like it is.'"
