I think it was Orel Hershiser that said Tommy was the only person he had ever met that could use the "F" word as the noun, verb, and direct object in the same sentence....lol
In 2010 my son and I spent the weekend in Cooperstown for the HOF induction ceremonies. We are in the lobby of the Otesaga Hotel mingling with some of the HOFers who were in attendance. My son excuses himself to use the restroom. After at least ten minutes, I’m wondering what’s happened to my son. I enter the restroom to investigate, and there’s Tommy Lasorda telling my son story after story about life in the Major Leagues. He’s got my kid and the guy standing next to him (Tony Perez) in stitches. My son said, listening to Lasorda was the best part of his weekend! Imagine Lasorda “holding court” in the restroom. What a guy!!!
I used to work for the Dodgers in the 90s and ran some of the merchandise stands for about 13 years. When I would come in through the gates, typically about 2 or 3 in the afternoon, sometimes over a hundred degrees, everyday Tommy would pitch batting practice for hours, way before the start of the game, yelling inspiring quotes while pitching like " you get sweeter milk from a happy cow " A couple of times, I ran into Tommy and Mrs Lasorda getting out of their car, both very pleasant. BUT one thing that pissed Tommy off was as an employee. DON'T ever let him catch you wearing a hat for another team He would let you know, a GREAT ambassador
I loved Tommy, I loved to hate the Dodgers (Not so much anymore) I loved the SF/LA rivalry being a Gigantes fan . Tommy was Baseball he will be missed.
My favorite LaSorda moment out of his many that would qualify doesn't actually involve a 'game' at all. Well, yes and no. August 1988 on the road at Philadelphia. Between innings the Phillies mascot Philly Phanatic was parading around the infield with a fat LaSorda mannequin/pillow stuffed, uniformed dummy of Tommy entertaining fans of a team over 20 games out of first place (the Dodgers would go on to win the World Series just 2 months later vs the A's known famously for Kirk Gibson's dramatic walk off homerun against Eckersley to win the game). Tommy wasn't having any of it, chasing the Phanatic in his oversized, paunchy green costume with the hornblower nose. If you've never seen it I encourage you to find it on RUclips. Pure comedy gold lol
That is classic Tommy. There is a you tube video that has like a best of Tommy tirades that is a must watch! Sure wish he was coaching the Dodgers now!
Yes the Indians were one of the greatest minor league baseball teams of all time. The Indians won the 1970 Pacific Coast League Championship after winning their division by 26 games. That Indians team swept Hawaii 4-0 in the championship series.
Not to correct AL Michael's but Spokane wasn't the AAA affiliate of the Dodgers it was the Albuquerque Dukes. Those teams of Garvey, Lopes, Russell and Cey that he mentioned I use to go see in the 70's at the Albuquerque Sports Stadium.
How long was he taking all those Ultra Slim Fast shakes? If you still have a jar of that protein powder thats 3 decades old, its the same as the 9/11 dust of WTC
The true sign of Al Michaels' professionalism goes back to that era of his career. In Hawaii, he would be hired to do local radio of high school basketball games. Nothing would challenge an announcer as much as four Samoans on a fast break.
Now that minor league team under LaSorda would have been something to see. I lived in Hawaii for quite a few years and I went to an Islanders' game just once. This was in the 1980s and that team had to be the worst I've ever seen. The fans shagging the foul balls were more exciting and more energetic than the Islanders! I remember that Carl Yazstremki's kid was playing and boy oh boy did he stink! We booed him all night long. Just horrible! The college ball was much better in Honolulu...and an amazing view of Diamond Head in the outfield!
Tommy Lasorda was also a great story teller.
I love these stories about Tommy. A true legend!

Tommy was a gem. RIP 🙏

The man bled Dodger blue.
Mr Lasorda was a gem!
I met him a couple of times at Quan's restaurant in Orange, CA. He was a great conversationalist. Very accessible. God bless Tommy Lasorda!
Lasorda and weaver are now raising hell in heaven….RIP to both characters
Coach Lasorda, what do you think about Kurt Bevacqua?
lol. Have the children leave
There is zero chance that Kurt Bevacqua's friends don't refer to him as "f'in Bevacqua" to this day.
"Kurt Bevacqua? He couldn't hit water if he fell out of a f'n boat!" -- Tommy Lasorda (LOLOLOL)
@@zzyzxx13So, what did you think of Kingman's performance?

Not to mention getting Youppi, the Expos' mascot, thrown out of that extra-long game in Montreal for banging on the Dodgers' dugout roof.
Tommy and Al both legendary
Tommy , what a character.

I thought this was howard sterk speaking and was shocked he was so close to lasorda!😂
Tommy, can you tell us what you thought of Kingman’s performance?

That is my favorite Lasorda moment.😂
This is great. I always told people Tommy coached the Indians
You’re not allowed to say “The Indians” anymore. Show some respect for culture

@paleo704 right on. I'm a Cowboy. I pray I'm alive when Cowboys is eliminated as a mascot. It sickens me no one respects our culture.
@paleo704 How about " eat my arse" can you still say that ? " I say Indians allllll the time, azzwipe.

perhaps Spokane was AA?
Not to correct you, but at the time, Spokane WAS the Dodgers AAA team
Tommy lasorda, Yogi Berra two greats who would have been great at whatever, we're just lucky they fell in love with baseball.
We had Al for three seasons in the city. 1974-1976. Smooth as silk. Wonderful voice and delivery
I heard Joe Pesci said Tommy Lasorda used the F word too much.
Tommy❤
Tommy Lasorda graduated from App State.
Uhh...when was that?
It’s a dig at Rich. He’s still pissed Michigan lost to App State in football. So I like to drop by and remind with little less than true statements.
@@thehallsofvalhalla7212 Ohh! lol That was a great day. The longer UM fans stew over it, the greater it becomes.
love
Now that was funny😊.

Attempted murder
LMAO 😂😂🤣
Should have become baseball commisioner
Wasn't Al just "cancelled" or let go over something ridiculous?
@ed Schofield
Al Campanis didn't think Al Michael's was very buoyant though.
