My mother and I were huge Giants fans. Here comes Tommy, waddling from the clubhouse door in RF at Candlestick. The whole stadium was booing, and mom goes down to the railing near our seats in Sec 5, and yells in Italian at him. Surrounded by SFPD, he waddles twords her, takes off his blue Dodger cap, and blows her a kiss. Mom sold it in an exaggerated swoon, and nearly fell over. Crowd cheered for them both. From then on, all you heard from mom was "Tommy Lasorda blew me a kiss." She even told the Pope! Miss them both.
Tommy was always great for a nice punchline. My favorite was during a preseason hype speech, when he told a crowd (and I'm trying to quote him as accurately as I remember): "I love the Dodgers so much that my wife accused me of loving them more than her, and I just told her 'at least I love you more than football and basketball.'"
Cubs fan and a baseball fan 1st. Tommy was a huge part of my childhood and falling in love with the game. 51 now and making sure my 12 yr old son knows how important this man was to the game. Sad but lucky I got to see so much of Tommy in my life. See you heaven Tommy..
I met this wonderful mas 12 yrs ago in Newport Beach, such a beautiful soul always caring for others i will truly miss him, Tommy will live forever in our CORAZON!
I was in Syracuse, IN at a bar called The Frog. I was sitting at the bar having a 🍺 and behind me I noticed an older feller with the biggest Golden ring on his finger. Then it hit me...that's Tommy...holy christ! That's Tommy Fing Lasorda. I talked to him about baseball for like 20 minutes. He was so friendly. There was a Dodgers game on and when I told him that they won..he bought me a beer and says " That's the best news I've heard all night young man, get this guy a beer on me..."
Doug, thanks for that, and the memories. The opening cut of Tommy saying how he loves Dodgers Stadium. I couldn't agree more, even without all the changes. What truly a jewel of a Stadium! Truly not a bad seat in the house when it was built..... thanks again Doug. You said you wanted to know our favorite memories, mine is when on opening night 1995, 15 minutes before the start of the game, Tommy holding and playing with my then 6 month old Daughter in the dugout while I took photos of the two of them. Just ask, I am glad to share the pictures with you, and anyone that wants to see, my joy.... Oh yea, by the way, did anyone notice in those videos of them wearing the road greys, the front of the jerseys were saying "Dodgers", not Los Angeles? Go Dodgers, bleed blue!
As a lifelong Giants fan it amazes me to say that Tommy Lasorda is one of my all-time favorite baseball people. I was very happy that Tommy’s Dodgers were able to win another World Series before his passing. A true baseball man, RIP Tommy, even Giants fans will miss you.
As another lifelong Giants fan I’ll agree that he was a lot of fun and he definitely spiced up the rivalry with his clowning. I’d also hope that although quite elderly by the time of the Covid year, he still had enough of his faculties present to fully recognize that he was still the winner of the last actual dodgers WS championship.
@@jhamlin726 Kinda. But not really actually real, at all. More like the participation trophy for an extended spring training. Closest they came to a real one this century was the one Houston stole, but they didn’t win it, did they now?
Tommy Lasorda passed but Memories Never Will. He treated my Great Grandsons Billy + Timmy and me like Family. A Great Person. Thanks for the Memories. ❤
Tommy was all heart (and stomach) and he represented the Dodgers and baseball with passion and honesty. He cheered louder than all of the fans for his beloved Bums. Just don’t ask him about Kingman’s performance. 😂
RIP Coach Lasorda. I grew up a Cubs fan but enjoyed watching the Dodgers play. You were one heck of a great coach and an equally great person. You made baseball fun to watch. To me you were always symbolic of what a baseball coach should be. You left your mark on this game and you will never be forgotten. Thank you.
In 2004 I was sitting Field Level as the Dodgers were playing the Rockies. The Dodgers were leading 6-0 going into the 7th and I, like most Dodger fans, I knew it was a lock because in two more frames if we needed we had Gagne in the bullpen; GAMEOVER. Anyways, in between innings the ground crew was dragging the field and out of nowhere the crowd went ape-shit. I was clueless why until my girlfriend pointed out that Tommy had left his usual seat and was walking towards the tunnel. I jumped out of my seat and ran down the aisle to see if I could greet him with a handshake. I was at the wall between Field Level and Dugout Club and he passed me by. This was the closet I have ever been to the greatest Dodger that ever lived. Without hesitation I jumped the six foot drop. With a security guard grabbing my arm I exclaimed ‘Tommy! Just shake my hand Tommy!” He turned around and shook my hand and ‘Ok, Kid.’ I thanked him and went without struggle with the security guard down the tunnel by the home dugout. I was not arrested but was lead out by 4 LAPD officers to the left field gate. As I was being escorted out one of the officers asked if it was worth it. I told him I will tell my grandchild this story. Rest in Heaven Tommy, with the big Dodger in the sky.
RIP to the Goat you will be missed. Good part about it is how he is in baseball heaven with legends like Walter Alston, Lou Brock, Bob Gibson, Connie Mack and so many more legends.
I have a Tommy Lasorda story. During Nomo’s rookie year we went to one of his starts. Not a lot of fans back then so we went down close to the Dodgers dugout and sat in some empty seats. A couple of drunk guys started berating a vendor out loud. I mean they were going off on him. Tommy heard them and he climbed the side of the dugout and gave them a cussing I couldn’t believe!! He called them Fucken jerks and how they were raised and a-holes for not respecting their elders. These guys sat down and kept quiet. An inning later security came and escorted them out. Tommy went off on those guys. I’ll always remember that because in the same game, Ramon Martinez tossed me a ball. We miss you Tommy!!

Tommy was doing some commentary for a network Dodgers game. I forgot when and who the batter was. But I remember Tommy saying "high and inside and he'll put it away." The very next pitch was high and inside and it was a home run.
The BEST Tommy Lasorda moment was when Dave Kingman hit three home runs and a reporter (I think KFI) asked him. “ What did you think of his (Kingman’s) performance?” My other Moment was when Tommy denied he had Tom Nedenfuer pitch at (hit) Kurt Bevaqua! The Tommy Lasorda, Doug Rau exchange on the mound in the 1977 World Series will forever be a classic. It defined why I found baseball so great in the 70’s. Now the game is a boring mechanical mess thanks to analytics.
The Dodgers won one also for Tommy, I remember the time where Tommy said to Doc Roberts before a world series press conference, " Dave, You ain't won nothing yet!"
Tommy was 3rd base coach, playing the Reds and Pete Rose was 3rd baseman. Tommy says to Pete, Pete, “we took a vote and you’re the 2nd best looking guy on the team! Everyone else tied for first”!
