I wish more late night shows invited directors, it’s great to see people who make movies not only the people who appear in them.
well said. there is non-healthy obsession 4 actors/actresses
Yeah
Well Stephen Colbert mostly invites directors
I agree. Movies are a director's medium and whilst we love our good looking stars, I'm far more interested in what directors have to say.
Yeah I can't remember what movie it was but I remember watching interviews for a film where the panel always included one or two of the scriptwriters and it was so much more interesting. At least VFX people get a lot more attention these days.
This man is easily one of the best directors working today, every award nominations he gets for any movie he made is very well deserved no doubt
Could Dune (2021) very well be the greatest film ever created in this history of all cinema?
@@costco_pizza i love it, but no
@@costco_pizza no, he's my favorite director but he would laugh If he read that lol
When others failed, he has done the best.. why didn't he get nominated for oscar.. 😭
@@costco_pizza it'a a huge cinematic accomplishment, but no. It's not even Denis's best film. Prisoners (2013) is
I'm french-canadian and I'm so admirative of Denis Villeneuve, and how his talent shines internationally. Even if he does big budget movies, his vision remains unique and profound. He makes us very proud !
I am french and i am very proud too. 🇫🇷🇨🇦🥰🥰🥰
Entièrement d'accord! 😉
Un gars de TR qui jase avec Fallon, ça fait spécial.
Dune was a great example of how to do an art film as a big budget crowd-pleaser
Protect him please
One of the best directors ever, he's so humble and genuine. Can't wait for Dune 2!
Dune 2 was incredible!
You got it!
@@StargazerFS128no 😂
I am so incredibly mad that Denis didn't get his Oscar nom for directing....Like Come on man! But I am positive that he will win one for the sequel......Just love this guy🙌
I'm glad that he got a Screenplay and Picture nom which means he will be attending the ceremony of course but yeah dissapointing that he didn't get a Best Director nod. Who knows he could get for the sequel and even win it, i mean it took 3 LOTR movies for Peter Jackson to win Best Director, might aswell for Villeneuve for the sequels
@@BryanCostner yeah it is Peter Jackson all over again
He did well, but so did all the other nominees. Like come on. The fact that you like the movie doesn't make it better than te others.
I don't to sound disrespectful.
And now everybody's saying they're waiting for Part 2. And even comparing it to TLOTR. In TLOTR they didn't wait for anything. It won all it had to win, all it deserved in 2002, but we also had A Beautiful Mind. Then same in 2003 but with The Pianist and Chicago. And then in 2004 there was no competition so it took all the deserving awards.
If Dune doesn't win anything is not because they're holding themselves back. Simply the movie doesn't deserve those awards.
Although the Oscars are not perfect at all. They've never been and they probably won't.
For me nominating it for Screenplay and Picture was a completely biased choice. Popularity is talking, not quality.
That desperate need of proving others that your favorite movie is the best is so ridiculous!
You look like a nice person, but Dune fans are up there with MCU fans and crazy Star Wars fans as the most toxic guys on the internet.
@@geetadhumane5793 Could Dune (2021) very well be the greatest film ever created in the history of all cinema?
Denis Villeneuve has become one of my favorite filmmakers.
For me ,
Chris Nolan
Denis Villeneuve
Quentin Tarantino
Ridley Scott
James Cameron
Arrival still remains by my favorite film of all time. Denis is the sci fi goat in my opinion
Glad to see Denis Villeneuve being interviewed by Fallon. He should've been nominated for Best Director alongside Kenneth Branagh, Jane Campion, Steven Spielberg and Paul Thomas Anderson at this year's Oscars.
@@DiegoPisfil Spielberg and Branagh should be swapped out, so Villeneuve, Campion, Anderson, Hamaguchi and Ducournau would be such a great line up!!!
I’m glad he wasn’t. Villeneuve’s way too talented to win as Oscar.
I think all the nominees deserved it as much if not even more than him.
I liked his direction in this film and love Arrival, Prisoners and Blade Runner 2049, but that doesn't make Dune better.
why glad to see a genius interviewed by an empty-headed sell-out clown?
@@cl_the_loonwell you’re wrong
Denis est une de nos plus grande fierté du Québec! Heureux de voir qu’il est apprécié au sud de la frontière!
And all over the world too.
Hey Denis... touch something

FOOL'S GOLD
5 minutes only? I'll listen to Denis talking for hours
me too. 5mins shows no respect
Awesome director. Can't wait for Dune: Part Two and Rendezvous With Rama.
It's going to be incredible.
Yes! and they are talking about doing a third Dune film covering Dune Messiah!!!
'Rendezvous with Rama'!!!
Yes, please 🙏
Only Villeneuve could do it justice, and it would be mind-blowing.
‘Twas good
So great to see a Québécois filmmaker succeed like this ! Very proud 😁
That’s our boy 💪
Quebec represent❤️
This man will always have a place in my heart after having seen Blade Runner.
Christopher Nolan + James Cameron = Denis Villeneuve👏👏👏
Dune is truly a visually pleasing cinematic masterpiece.
Good movie, great visuals and sound. But that's all it has. Not enough to make it Best Picture contender imo at all.
@@rafaelc.c. Good visuals an sound is all it has for real what about the characters and the story fs
He's soo french canadian in every way and it feels very humble to me
He is what you expected a French Canadian to be?
@@fs400ion No I grew up with French Canadians and he reminds me of them 😊
Being from Montreal! Denis is a big inspiration to us all! Great to see one of our own be on top on Hollywood!
not from montreal ! Villeneuve was born in the village of Gentilly in Bécancour ( trois-rivière )
@@jean-pierrelemieux5012 hey genius, I know, that’s not what I meant. He lives in Montreal and studied at Uqam. Stop being the fact police, you’re cringe af lol
Tellement fière de Denis ! What a special, talented and humble guy!
They better give Denis an Oscar for part 2, Dune was surreal.
Dune Part 2 will be The Return of the King of Dune in cinema. Write it Down. With big chances to win best picture and director in academy Awards, like the third movie of the trilogy of Peter Jackson.
Two french people in one week 🎉🎉🎉
1 from France and 1 from Canada 🙌🏼
Yesss! We want moreeeeee ☺️👌🏼
Deeply love Denis! 💜
This is the director that star wars needed badly. Im glad he made Dune, his vision was amazing. I will watch anything this man directs
Dune it´s the original star wars. Star wars it´s Dune for kids.
I would love to see a Star Wars movie made by Villeneuve
I can rarely say that an English speaking host on TV will bother to get a French name right, let alone make the effort to actually speak it properly! I'm impressed!
My fanhood of Jimmy just got bumped up a few levels ☺️
Imagine being this talented…
Dennis is a brilliant director. One of my favorite. Every movie he did is great.
This man deserves an Oscar! I love all of his work. Dune was stunning.
So much respect for this man. Inspiration in every regard.
I fucking love this guy. Very humble, generous and kind human being.
He doesn't have a bad movies as well 🎥💯.
Even watching that clip gives me chills. I love love love this movie. Thank you Denis! 💞
Dune was an epic masterpiece! Saw it in the IMAX theater and it blew me away! Can't wait for Dune Part II :-) For the few ignorant/high/unrealistic book readers that didn't like it; understand the material, get off the cognitive thought blocking drugs, and to all the Dune book series book readers, realize it's never going to be exactly like the books and that Denis is a visionary director who read the books and did an amazing job making it.
I'm an avid reader of the books and I think he did a phenomenal job at adapting the story, he respects the story which is why he's making it a 2 parter. He's doing the best he can to adapt the story, of course it's not gonna be exact carbon copy of every nook detail from the books. I don't know why people are criticizing the adaptation, it's perfect
@@subzerowins31 I completely agree and I wish more people understood what you just said and realize the complexity of making the series into a movie in the first place has been fraught with relative Duds over the years.
I've read the first 3 books about 5 times each. I love the books and I love this adaptation. Perhaps more than the books actually! 🌟
@@beccymay701 exactly! He went beyond expectations and created gorgeous versions of this epic series.
You man are freaking out.
It was fine, but not anything close to masterpiece for me. And you think your opinion stands out from the rest. Come on.
I don’t use the term often, but in my eyes Denis’ Dune is a masterpiece 🙌
Blade Runner 2049, DUNE, Arrival, Sciccario, etc are some of my favorite films, this man is a genius at EPIC productions, lighting, landscapes...he is just amazing at what he does. glad he isn't a director and not a baker!
If you haven't seen it yet, you have to watch his movie Incendie!
As a Canadian, I was a little worried when I saw those bagpipes...but they managed to make it both familiar and otherworldly at the same time...so good.
There's another interview with Villeneuve and Zimmer and Zimmer says that actually the sound of the bagpipe has been done by a guitar...Denis was floored! It is so funny to watch his reaction!
So glad he's getting the recognition he deserves, one of the best in the game and personally my favorite
Best director working today.
00:40 - "I think I could be a baker, I could be a good baker, I love the concept of people need bread, you make bread, people buy bread"
I admire and love the humble man that he is but even though he speaks in a calm manner, you can feel his intense passion for the tale when he talks about it. As a Québec citizen, im immensly proud of this guy, we're both from the same town and i precisely am stunned at the colossal amount of work he put into Dune, from the most intrinsic details to the most grandiose and astounding scenes this movie features. Its a masterpiece and this guy does it for the pure love of the Dune universe, first and foremost. He's a rare kind in Hollywood and many others from the industry should learn from him.
One of the top three directors out there. Such amazing work.
He is one of the greatest filmakers of our generation.
He keeps releasing epic movies after another.
Could not be more grateful to have him directing Dune and it’s sequel. You can tell how passionate he is about the world of Dune.
I will forever be mad I did not see blade runner 2049 in theaters. Movie blew my mind so hard
Same here. 😔
I love Dune so so much!! I am so excited for the second one!! Next fall can't come soon enough!!!
Denis is so lovely.
I ate up all the hype before seeing it and it still didn't dissapoint. Loved it. Can't wait for parts 2 & 3 and Rendezvous with Rama!
Officially requesting a 10-hour video of Denis Villeneuve just saying bagpipe plz
Denis!
Give this man a oscar already
it's just beautiful
I love him. he knows how to represent cinema in an type of film. Sicario and arrival are best of the best so far.
Deni is really one of the bests ever. Prisoners is just sublime!
Put This Guy in a Museum.
He's PRECIOUS.

Arrival & Enemy are STELLAR - FANTASTIC.
Blade Runner 2049 is TRANSCENDENTAL.
The bagpipes make the house feel like an old clan. It is a nice touch.
Jimmy is the worst interviewer with directors on the show, but seeing Denis Villeneuve on national TV is always a treat!
He does this fake stutter to mask his ethusiasm annoys the living shit out of me.
Actually this is one of his best given his low standard
@@511dydy Did u see Jimmy corporal movements? he clearly made Denis nervous and create a negative fake ambient. The problem with Jimmy its that he is so damn fake with his words that overact the opposite with his corporal language. Denis is always with good vibes, he is not an actor... Jimmy doesnt need to be like this with a non-actor.. such a dumbass.
@@Jvksiew that is so spot on

Seen this movie three times in the past couple days. Amazing film
Not only Dune. Blade Runner 2049 is a miracle. We may never see a movie like it again.
BR2049 >> Dune easily for me.

I was hoping Jimmy would show him the clip of Jeremy Renner about making of Arrival! It’s pretty funny about how he pronounced “foc-us”
WHAT A EPIC LEGEND THIS DENIS. 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Honestly wasn’t familiar with his work but Dune was one of the best movies I’ve seen in a long time! And the bagpipes were a great addition!
do yourself a favor and watch bladerunner 2049
Wow, bagpipes were totally badass in that scene, along with Zimmer's epic score.
1. Dune - 10 out of 10 (A MASTERPIECE).
2. Dune Messiah - 7.5 out of 10 (Saddest Dune Book).
3. Children of Dune - 8.9 out of 10 (Changes everything).
4. God Emperor of Dune - 10 out of 10 (The Best Ending to The Golden Path).
5. Heretics of Dune - 7 out of 10 (That one scene...).
6. Chapterhouse: Dune - 7.5 out of 10 (Goodbye Desert Planet).
Dune 2021 - 4 out of 10 looks and sounds great but no heart or soul of what made Dune, Dune

The man who deserves to win the best director isn't even nominated! Awesome.
In part 2 he will be nominated. Could even win. Because dune 2 will return of the king of dune in cinema, like third part of LOTR trilogy of Peter Jackson.
I agree. I would like to see directors, producers, and the people behind the scenes.
Favorite movie of the year.
Christopher Nolan,Denis Villeneuve and Terrence Malick are definitely geniuses in this matter ❤
Jimmy Fallon denis villeneuve 40 year awesomeness job interview
Bravo Denis!
I'm really interested in the process of film making and your promising that. That's why I contributed, best of luck while making Shelby Oakes
I really hope he gets to make Messiah.
Great director
Bravo Dénis
This was the same for Blade Runner 2049, Hans Zimmer score was so tightly integrated in the movie's storytelling it's hard to imagine its absence.
Dune was very good (9/10), but Denis true masterpiece is "Prisoners" from 2013 (10/10!) . Prisoners is probably the best movie i've ever seen, right next to Heat (1995). Gyllenhaal and Jackman are insane in that movie. I higly recommend checking that out
For me the Incendies was the best, followed by Sicario, Dune, Polytechnique, Prisoners and the rest. I'm more an indie side of fan. But, love every genre he worked in.
And... Paul Dano!
@Sam F.S, yeah Dano was really good too
Blade Runner 😎
What Denis thought me about this it's that is never too late to achieve your goal your old dream. It took him 40 years to make his dream come true. Whatever your dream, your goal in life is remember it's never too late. Good things take time to happen. Denis is one of the best directors around today.
people need bread , you make bread , people buy bread XD best quote ever
Denis Villeneuve, a young guy. He has so much to give yet...
I distinctly recall Dune premiering last year..
Denis Villeneuve!
4:55 “Dune is on digital and available to stream on HBO Max” oof Denis must’ve hated that.
Denis is the PERFECT person to make DUNE
Dune deserved a billion dollars in theatrical release
WB did wrong with Denis to release it on HBO MAX on the same day
He deserves a lot more than he is getting
Dune was only released on HBO in the states. It was Theaters-only in the rest of the world. It made $100M US and $300M foreign. Spider-Man made $800M US and another $1 Billion world-wide. Dune appeals to a niche audience and very small percentage will watch it twice.
Nice de voir un queb sur fallon!
Thank god they let the cool people out of Canada.
Best Sci fi Director! Blade Runner 2049 was better than the original. Dune was a masterpiece and I hope he gets the trilogy. Rendezvous with Rama is in good hands.
Give this man all the Sci fi classics and cult Sci fi stories.
Can believe they afflecked this guy!! Should have been nom for best director
Just wait. He will get the Peter jackson/LOTR treatment
He was ROBBED of the Oscar nom!
Want to be in the next movie 😩😩😁
More directors please
I can't believe they didin't show the bagpipe scene at the end 🥲
I didn’t know Denis was French-Canadian. I easily would’ve thought he was born in France. Wow.
Très fière d'être québécoise ☺️
What i found shocking AND fascinating from a Zimmer interview is the fact that he never watched the original movie (and let's forget collectively the tv series) and never listened to the soundtrack by Toto/Brian Eno. Seriously...? But was it in his contract to check it out before working on this Dune? While Z. can't surpass the old music's epic proportions, he comes as close as possible. Spooky and astonishing.
