- Today's live demo includes zipper insertion techniques to help you create beautiful Zipper Cases (no scrunched corners!). Jot down these tips for your next Zipper Case so they become a habit.
I'm using my pattern Easy Zipper Cases, which has three size options and contrast bottom instructions. Find it here: tinyurl.com/mr3234jw
🚩 I'll also cover the various Interfacings/Stabilizers that can be used on this pattern. Nearly any combination works, the result will vary according to what you use.
In the pattern, I call for Pellon 809 and SF101 because they lend a professional result without being difficult to sew. I'll show you various samples of other cases I've made with foam stabilizer as well as other interfacing combinations depending on what I had on hand. There is no "right" or "wrong" - you have to find what you prefer and do that. It's part of the beauty of being a Maker.

This is such a fun looking pouch.
I have never worked with vinyl and you make it look really easy
It is easy with the right tools! :D
I love Pellon 809 & Decovil Light & By Annie foam ❤
First time viewer - you had so many great tips. I get so confused with all the different interfacings - fusible, non-fusible, foam, etc! Your explanations & suggestions were very helpful! Thank You!
Hello Grace! Welcome and thank you for watching! I am thrilled that I was able to help make sense of these for you!
Thank you for sharing your tips and tricks! I love this pattern. I've made several!
Thanks Monica!

So nice of you to say! Thank you so much for watching!
Great info!!! ❤
Glad it was helpful!
Very helpful session, although I got a little lost on which piece goes on when. This is my biggest struggle. I'm a very visual learner. I'll watch again and write them down. I haven't made enough bags to have it memorized yet. Thank you for a great session!
SF101 on first, then the other interfacing- whatever you choose. I think you have my pattern right?
@@SewHungryHippie it's actually the order of the pieces such as exterior and lining that I get confused. I paid more attention today and finished another bag! Thank you!
Thanks Natalie! This video has given me the confidence to start making the pouch kits that I have purchased from you.
I had to draw myself a picture in the pattern and I still struggle every time with the part where you repeat the steps. Don’t sweat it.
@@marykaull8141 Great idea! I'm going to make notes on my pattern for next time. I hope someday I can sew them faster and not need to take something apart😃
Thank you for this! I’m new to bag making and am learning so much but still have a long ways to go.
I’m planning on making a tote for a coworker that combines quilting cotton, a cotton/linen/canvas panel (pictures of her doggies that’s been transferred to the fabric), and a canvas base. Should I piece everything together first then add the woven interfacing and stabilizer (I’m wanting to try Decovil light), or should I add the interfacing and stabilizer to each piece before sewing them together? And can I keep the Decovil light in the seam allowance? I have a Juki TL18. Thank you for any tips you can give me!
Edited to add that you might have mostly answered my question in this video….
The Juki can handle anything, so I would keep the interfacing in the seams if it were me.
@@SewHungryHippie I ended up doing just that and it worked great! Thank you!
I was not putting the zipper tab all the way in the zipper. Even though everything was cut correctly.
Thanks, always enjoy your tips and knowledge!! What is the difference between Pellon 808 and 809?
Hi Donna, 808 is Craft Fuse - a little more papery feeling. Pellon 809 is what I call for in the pattern, it works well for a crisp finish without bulk. Hope this helps & thanks for asking!
Awe, I just saw a photo of the recent bag I made😊
YES!!! It's gorg!
Was Sf101 used on lining fabric? Isn't it fusible?
Sf101 is used as well as other interfacings. Yes SF101 is fusible.
do I topstitch vinyl to fab. on front panel

Hi and thanks for sharing your time and knowledge.
Are nylon zippers the same as coil zippers? Every sews over zippers and I’m terrified of breaking a needle, that’s why I haven’t been able to make zipper pouches 😢
You can always hand crank over zipper teeth if you're nervous.
@@SewHungryHippie thanks!!
How do you know what interface to use on fabrics
Whenever you want it to have more stability, interface. I ALMOST always do - and just vary my materials according to how I want it to feel.
@@SewHungryHippie thank you so much for responding
