    After owning a Bowflex since 2006 which I sold to a friend for 100 bucks last year and replacing it with a TG, I can honestly say I don't miss the Bowflex one bit. Well I do miss the leg extension attachment but that's about it. The total gym in a much smaller form factor provides me with everything I want in a home gym. Having to swap the resistance rods and adjusting the bench also between exercises was a little annoying and having to need not just lateral space but vertical space was also annoying. My basement ceiling was too low for it so I had to sacrifice the lat pulldown attachment. Not an issue with the total gym. The total gym is just the best option for me. Thanks for all the awesome videos. You're definitely helping me a lot with reaching my fitness goals.

    Those big bulky home gyms aren't just very expensive but not really mobile and limited to a certain amount of exercises. I also use my total gym along with bands as you do and that's a huge plus.

    I was a former athlete & a current martial artist that used to only use heavy free weights. After about a dozen major injuries I hesitantly decided to go to a Total Gym. I was so happy with my decision. I can get a great, "burn" without having to have a, "spotter" anymore. I've also used a Bow flex for a while and, in my humble opinion, Total Gym is a way better workout for me. I can get a better workout without having to change the level a bunch of times like I did before with Bow flex. I've been using a basic Total Gym 1500 for almost 20 years now and I don't have the wear and tear on my joints that I did before either. Great video!

Just like I did back in the day and I have put on serious muscle. I'm at 230 right now. However.......if I cut right now I would be 210 lean

    I work at a college that has the home gym unit. Before i bought a total gym i was going to go with a unit. But after watching Chuck Norrris XLS demonstration videos i realized there were far more possibilities of exercising rather than being confined to a a set resistance that the particular gym unit i was using had. Also the weight capacity was limited on this unit..along with assembling that monster with nuts & bolts, it is basically going to stay put. Total gym can be folded up & taken anywhere you wish to go, unfolded in a matter of 1 minute & ready to work out. And cable workouts give you benefit of wide ranges of motion whereas a gym unit is basically a set resistance with no chance of expanding on it. Mostly it was wide range of exercises available and ease of access setting up and taking it down...and price as well..that i made my decision on a sliding bench trainer. Also i didn't have the space for a home gym unit & the unit i was using at the college only provided leg curls & hamstring curls. So much more leg work available with a sliding bench.

    If I started over I would still get my Soloflex and Total Gym. For a multigym I would get a Power-Tec. However, I am plenty happy with what I have and the Total Gym, in particular. The Total Gym helps me work around spinal stenosis. The exercises I am able to do, do not compress my lower back area. Doing inverted exercises: the should press, inverted curls, inverted lateral raises, etc. keep load spread out on the sliding bench but also it keeps my lower spine happy. I can also do supersets on The Total Gym and and move between exercise quite quickly. Thank you for the video.

    I have a multi gym with a cable cross option on the side of the machine. It's heavy enough to also use it to hang the TRX on it. Recently I got the Bowflex PR1000 and of course I got a sliding bench I use twi times a week.
    But I'm also looking into a Bioforce gym which has hydraulic resistance.
    Having been trowing weights in the air in commercial gyms for 17 years or so before the lockdowns, I began to like different ways of strenght training.
    Also, I kinda enjoy building these machines.
    I helped a friend of mine building the Inspire BL1, which is a big leverage/body weight machine and a whole different kind of beast.

    • @Jay30k
      @Jay30k 2 года назад

      @@hybridresistance I have the Body Boss 2.0 bands to compare them to, and I think the tension of the rods is a lot better. In a way, you can't compare the two.
      I had a good pump last sunday with the Bowflex, which I hadn't had for a long time. Maybe that's because I'm still have to get used to the machine.
      One thing that is not nice about a rod machine has to be the loading time. So moving to another excersice or change the weight will go a lot slower than a multigym or a Total Gym. That is why I'm also looking for a Bioforce machine as well. There's a video on RUclips with a Bowflex vs. Bioforce on this, so you'll know what I mean.

    I had a Powertec multigym for many years and loved it because I could lift "heavy" with real weight plates and it was built like a tank, for about $800. The Weider UBW or Total Gym is effective as well (with perhaps less resistance available), and is also portable and stowable. That's why I love it; plus I'm hitting 50 soon and don't care to lift heavy anymore. My only issue with TG is the cost. I'm not saying they aren't worth buying, just that they could likely sell the TG Fit or XLS for $300 and still be making a tidy profit. The materials just don't match up with the price. I think you're paying for Chuck and Christie's salaries, and the dozens of trainers they employ to make dvd's and TG TV.

    • @kriswempa5171
      @kriswempa5171 2 года назад +1

      I totally agree on the price. Take a look at the TG Apex G5. Right now, you can get it for $450. Its stats are comparable to the XLS. It has a 375 pound weight limit, has 10 resistance levels and supports the weight bar. If they can still make a profit on that one, then you KNOW they are making a killing on the XLS and Fit models. Of course, if the XLS/Fit are selling well at their current prices, they really have no need to drop the prices.

  • @kriswempa5171

    I'd love to try out a Bowflex. I considered getting one shortly after the pandemic lockdowns, but my wife was concerned about how much space it would take up. They are pretty tall and we have limited space (too much junk in our house !). I also noticed that the opinions on the power rods seems very mixed. The one thing that looks like it would be better on a Bowflex is the bench press. Even though the TG chest press has grown on me, I still feel like I'm not pushing as much weight as I could because I'm wasting energy keeping my body upright. So, I usually start my chest workout with a dumbbell press, using a very low incline on the TG. Other than that, I'm very glad I went with the TG + weight bar + extra bands/plates. The TG folds away nicely and all of the attachments/extras go into a small box in the corner.

    • @hybridresistance
      @hybridresistance  2 года назад +1

      I agree, there's some people who say the power rods hold up well and some saying they're trash. I would be surprised if they broke that easily considering that they are supposedly backed by a lifetime warranty.

  • @JoseSuarez-bk3qg
    @JoseSuarez-bk3qg 2 года назад

    As an experienced exercise enthusiast, I would stick with a glide board gym setup as opposed to buying the cheap multi station home gym. The reason being is the weight stack on those units cannot be increased when you have reached the weight capacity of the gym. Also the range of motion on the some of those units are limited, especially if you are over six foot tall. If I was going to buy a unit of that nature I would get a Powertec, BodySolid or a BodyCraft home gym that allows you to grow with the gym as you get stronger and can add additional weights.
    Just my thought.

    2 thoughts here. I've noticed the high end, commercial total gym's have a great feature - where you can make the board flat, even on a steep angle of the tower. So, you're still sliding, but you have the option to level the board. Those are really expensive though. The only other issue for me is the chest press move.I find myself leaning forward too much, which bothers my lumbar spine. When I try to stay upright, I don't feel like I'm really pushing enough resistance. I picked up the Iron Chest Master to supplement the chest work I'm missing on the TG. I like the feeling of bands anchored around my back for chest press as well. There's a cool product from Innstar that makes self anchored bench press very comfortable. It looks like a back brace, but you load it up with short bands. Let me know what you think. Thanks again for all the great ideas.

    • @hybridresistance
      @hybridresistance  2 года назад

      I've seen that Iron Chest Master and it looks pretty cool and that innstar product as well. You think the Iron Chest is worth it and or what's the big advantage you notice over regular pushups? Thanks for sharing that.

    • @Besokool
      @Besokool 2 года назад

      @@hybridresistance Hey Mike, so I definitely think the Iron Chest Master is a solid purchase. At the top of the push-up, you compress the handles towards the center. You can change the tension with the short bands that come with it. I've always enjoyed push-ups, and this is a fun challenge to the standard push ups. It's also made very well. I really wish total gym would make an accessory to flatten the board, even at steep angles. Some of the commercial total gyms have this feature, and I would love that. I don't mind being at a steep angle on any of the pulling, or leg movements. Laying flat for most things is great as well. (Triceps, pull-overs, iron cross, etc.) It's just the seated bench press without back support really doesn't work for me. It's a shame,because I keep jumping off to superset push-ups during most work outs. You look so comfortable doing chest presses on the TG. I wish I could use it as effortlessly. Thanks again for everything.

    Definitely agree with you about the setup being easier with the total gym than the Bowflex. I have the Bowflex Ultimate 1 and it can do a lot of great exercises but the setup is more difficult. As far as effectiveness of building definition and also losing weight what would you suggest?
    I'm like 10 lbs higher than I should be and have been alternating between doing p90x workouts with a pull up bar and push up stands, the total gym total body workout and am wondering if I should try the Bowflex or maybe dumbbels as well.

      I'm planning on making a weight loss series in the near future, which by the way, let me know any ideas on what you'd like to see with that. But a simple answer to the building defnition/ losing weight would be to try to focus try to hit each body part (or at least ones you want to focus on) at least twice a week and find a diet or way of eating to create a caloric deficit. I know that may sound simplistic, but that's exactly what I'll be doing and sharing in the coming weeks.

    It's a lot easier to add resistance to a total gym than it is a "home gym" also it's also not that hard to maintain or replace parts on a total gym either. First thing to go is the rollers which depending on model can be replaced from I believe Huck parts? I'd have to check but their rollers are nice. The rest is just seeing what fits according to make, model and year.

    Total Gym is way more flexible, fun and space efficient. I owned a Bowflex and found it uncomfortable to use because everything is in a fixed position. Plus, Bowflex is similar to resistance bands and you don't have a consistent load for the entire exercise. Free weights, machines, etc. take up too much space, are expensive and too clunky to move around. TG all the way! BTW ... hope your new space is working for you!

      Not truly no, because it's hard to incorporate the leg portion. In my next video I'll feature an exercise that really stresses the back using bands, but can be cumbersome for people. I'd think it'd best to use some loop style bands off a box to get close to that without spending much on external weight.
