    Thanks, I have used home gyms before and have been happy with them. Spine Surgery Tomorrow, and in 2 weeks my gym arrives. Im paying a young person to assemble. I am 69 and not giving up!

    I just bought an old Tuff Stuff home gym for $250 with a 200lb weight stack. I get more use out out it then I got from my Inspire FTX.

    I hav a Marcy weight stack machine thats mainly for chest(still not crazy bout TG chest), lat pulls, leg ext and standing hamstring curls....I luv it but everything else is TG(w/ band wrk every now/then for variety)...the great thing about those machines is...they will outlive these new E-gyms cuz they're primitive;the plus is...they're primitive!! Ha! Anyway great topic...👍🏋️‍♂️👍

    I bought and sold so many different versions of these all in one units and they are definitely best bang for your buck on the used market.

    well if you have the room and can afford it, go for it. But personally I prefer the versatility and convenience of a Total Gym. easy to move and store too

    I've always liked these little multi-gyms. Some of them are terrible, a few of them are shockingly good, most of them are decent (though, for the last 15 years or so, there has been a major decline in quality). Like with anything else, if you approach these machines with a serious mindset and actually implement a solid program and are consistent, you will absolutely see great results. I mean, there really isn't a whole lot of difference between pin-select chest press at a commercial gym vs on one of these. Same with leg extensions, or lat pulls, etc.

      100% and you would know about build quality for sure. I was surprised how good some of these exercises felt. Thanks again for watching Skyler.

    If you can find an older one, like a Body-Solid, those things are built like tanks. And it's basically a functional trainer if it has the low/high cable. Just heavy, like you said. And no squats unless you do belt squats with the cable. Otherwise I see no problem with them at all.

    I have a Schwinn 610 Multi station gym in my home gym. I still use it at least 1-2x a week and train with free weights the other 2 days. I like the weight stack with plates and pin system. Its eady to change weight for each exercise or set. I can get a great total body workout (3 sets of 10-12 reps) if each exercise in about 45-60 minutes.
    Its been a good gym staple in our workout room !!!

    I train with an eclectic array of equipment: bands, free weights, maxpro, and my Image 512 multi station trainer. The weld on the seat for the leg extension has come undone (can still use it for other exercises but need to get it repaired), but otherwise it is working well after 30+ years. It has a 200 # stack, which I can expand with a Gym pal rod (no need yet but getting close). I use the multistation trainer for pec deck, chest press (supplement to DBs), cable low rows, tri pressdowns, cable curls etc. It’s a functional trainer for much less money than, say, one from Rogue, Rep, Titan, BoS, etc. The equipment I don’t use is my Total Gym knockoff, but you may persuade me yet.

    Just picked one up used! Fairly new and a higher end one (Inspire M3) also got lucky that it was in good shape, working, had all the pieces and fit in my SUV. It is in the corner of my home office as an alternative to going to the garage on really hot or really cold days. Mine doesn't have a leg press or a heavy low pulley so working squats is limited, but otherwise with some creativity I can work out most of my body and definitely the upper body. I think you named all the flaws - big, heavy and hard to put together or take down and they depreciate like crazy when selling. However, again like you said, if you are able to try and confirm you like the movements they can be great! Also, so many people buy leg extension/curl and lat pulldown/low row machines - these have that covered and a lot more in one spot! I noticed Hoist and Inspire are high quality, Body Solid and Body Craft are mid-tier (but have even more functions) and most of the other brands are pretty cheaply made. Takes a lot of work to grab a used one and put it together but if it works for you it is a big bang for the bucks!

    I wouldn't mind having one if I had the space. Particularly if you could do leg extensions since that's harder to replicate with free weights alone.

    I have one of these in my home gym. Thee cheap ones at K-mart and Dick’s are not too good.
    Ones like Tuff Stuff, Body-Solid, Yukon, etc. are all solid and highly beneficial.
    I think people ignore them due to space, and them not being popular
    I always wanted one -so, I bought one. Easy way to get a multitude of machines- unless you get a plate loaded variant.
    Mine has an additional leg press station. Some have heavy weight stacks.

    I've been using a universal gym I bought from Costco for about 3 years now. The problem I started to notice was that the width of the chest press grip was too narrow. Consequently, my shoulders were starting affected by the constricted narrowness. I started to get pains on the collar bone to shoulder joints. My chest also started to look narrower than when I used to workout in the gyms. I'm not impressed. Maybe I just bought the wrong type if home gym. I also can't do squats as it doesn't have a squats option.

      You bring up a very good but common issue with static fixed machines in any nature. If you're limited to one position overtime that can lead to repetitive stress injuries. Good thing would be to just add some other tools like adjustable dumbbells, total gym, or a barbell rack to switch up the positions a bit if you can.

    I'm owner of body-solid g9. I get it pretty cheap, second hand but in great condition and i love it. In other hand i would never pay the full price for new machine. It just doesn't have that commercial feeling like the machines in the gyms.

      @@hybridresistance No problem. Also the leg press feels good, stacks are heavy enough but not really smooth becouse its 1:1 ratio. Most of the exercises feels good but nothing close to the chest press and back rows like in the commercial machines. But you can always experiment and get the job done.

    I mean, a Total Gym is a Multi-Gym. I think a lot of people place the Total Gym in the same category because it is sold and listed as a multi-gym by most sellers.
    But yeah, all multi-gyms come with pros and cons, especially modern multi-gyms.
    Where the Total Gym shines is it is more of a cable machine than anything else, which honestly most people can play with Functional Trainers/Cable machines to get a lot of good movments and ranges of motion. But most traditional Multi-gyms are on fixed planes of motion or have limits on the range of motion per exercise, but like a Total Gym you can kinda play around with it to get the most out of you lifts/workouts.
    But yeah, that's a big reason why I never would have considered a Total Gym in the past, it was discovering your channel and seeing just how creative you were with the Total Gym and other items that inspired me to give it a try and boy have I loved it for my tiny apartment set up with my wife and boy.
    But I'm grateful for all these innovations with fitness machines even if they all come with their pros and cons.
    I hope one day soon to have room for a real Power Rack and weight lifting set up, along with my Total Gym and Resistance bands and more.

      Great comment and thanks for sharing all of that. You can't beat a sliding bench trainer for the practical reasons you just said especially when you throw kids in the mix.

    The temptation of these gyms is to have every important exercise in one unit. Unfortunately, a gym like that doesn’t exist, either home or box gym. They seem to be a good for young people to start their fitness journey and apprentice at home before going to the stage of a big gym. If I had the space and extra cash I would get one though.

  • @buddyryan875

    My parents had one too in the basement was my first experience with lifting like you! I have a free gym membership jump on a few machines a few times a month. They aren't necessarily that bad. Would have a hard time justifying the space. Some I've tried have bad sticking points and don't feel as smooth as commercial grade. If you have the space and found a good one it's worth it. I'd probably do a levergym multistation one

    • @hybridresistance
      @hybridresistance  10 месяцев назад +1

      If you could get that lever gym function / versatility with ability to have a weight stack, that would awesome.

  • @briand5047
    @briand5047 10 месяцев назад

    I've always thought many dismiss some equipment (T.G., multi-station, etc.) as not being hardcore, which makes as much sense as seeing someone doing 10 easy reps with 3 lb sky blue dbs and dismissing all dbs entirely.

    • @hybridresistance
      @hybridresistance  10 месяцев назад

  • @balboa0621
    @balboa0621 10 месяцев назад

    Hmmm, I'm thinking a lever gym does this sort of thing, but much more effectively and with more versatility.

    • @hybridresistance
      @hybridresistance  10 месяцев назад +1

      Lever gym is for sure more versatile, but (depending on multi-gym machine) the core machine movements will just feel different. No question, I'd take my lever gym over this machine, but I will say this Hoist has a better straight row, chest press, pec deck, and leg extension. Just depends on what you're using it for and preferences.
