We started SwitchUp as we just didn’t find what we were looking for in what was already out there. There are some brilliant creators - but we enjoyed a more retro format like the old gaming magazines. Scoring 5 sections out of 20 to give a percentage score like the good old days! Forreal. I thought it was. Seems fitting. This game looks a touch too easy. I think the main selling point is the style. Where sp was pretty combat driven. I really wanna get this, but yea imma wait for a sale.

I've always considered Dragons Crown the best in the genre since its release, and it was sad that most beat em ups offered little in the way of content or depth, but sounds like River City Girls fixes that, will definitely check it out despite its high price.

River city ransom was such a great game back in the days. I must've beaten that game at least twice a month back in the days.

I can't hack the continuous American valley girl voices. It's like having a drill made of pure diamond tipped annoying rammed through my head. I'm glad to see the return of scrolling beat 'em ups, especially one with a pedigree that shares a universe with Double Dragon, but I'd prefer text boxes instead of voice acting. Either that or have Japanese voices.
I personally find it funny. It's ironic. Kyoko is like one of my favorite characters.
Pretty interesting game, it's been a while since I played beat em up. Maybe it's time to reintroduce myself to such games
I wanted the physical version of this game so bad that I shelled out the $100 plus dollars to own a physical copy post release date with holographic cover. It’s my most valuable Nintendo switch game.

The review got me to buy. One of my fastest uninstalls in history.
This game is cool minus one big nitpick. Y is light attack but its is also your action button to move to new areas so if the fight ends up near a transition, you end up pressing Y and stepping through. This will reset all the enemies. Its a bit of shitty design considering how many other buttons there are that aren’t being used. But thats my only nitpick. Fight far away from the transitions lol. Edit: they fixed this nitpick! Now you have to hold the button a short time to enter new areas 👍🏻

I just opened the eshop and taked a look to this game, so I thought by myself "maybe I should see a review to make sure..." and like 3 seconds later your video just poped up in my notifications. I just LOVED this game. Certainly gonna buy It.

Fans have ported it to PS3 emulators if you want to play it on PC. I wouldn't recommend emulation generally, but considering we can no longer buy or download Scott Pilgrim, I'd say it's okay.
Just preorderd from limited run, I do agree it should be a wider release though, at least best buy here in the states are getting it physical and I think playasia too...great review as always I cannot wait to play it
Im playing this because of this video. I havnt been much for beat em ups but I really enjoy this going to collect it physical. Takes me back to The world ends with you and also made me play Yakuza while home :O

When I saw the announcement for this game I was already in for it. After watching this I am having a hard time deciding between buying the physical Limited Run copy (so my kids could play it as well) or downloading and playing it immediately. Decisions decisions. Fantastic review!

Here is hoping we get a remake of the never released Banka (River City Ransom 3) done in this style to the U.S or even River City Underground to the Switch.
I want them to make the never made sequel to Banka where Kunio, Riki, and the girls would have gone to China. Kowloon no Tsume. Kowloon sounds like it would have been fucking awesome in a lot of ways. Plus there are actually translations for River City 2 and 3 (Shodai and Banka) as well as Downtown Special (the true sequel to RCR mechanically).
This is decent, it doesnt mstrer that its girls beat em up, what matters is the gameplay. Thanks Glen's Daughter , nice one.

@@SwitchUpYt River City Ransom Underground. You should check it out. It's on PC. It has some issues, like conflicting inputs for certain moves where some seem to not work because the input is already taken or doesn't seem to come out, but it definitely felt like a step in the right direction for what the series could be.
The art is amazing. I never played the original but I can see myself grabbing this this weekend. The couch coop is a big plus making it easy for a drinks and chill evening. Great review.

Oh gosh this looks lovely. I loved Scott Pilgrim and to hear that name invoked in talking about this is a great sign. $30 is a little steep but I might just have to do it. Certainly eventually, if not now.

this looks great but having just gotten spyro, ff8 remastered, and (albeit admittedly late) pickup of MK11 in the past week i probably will wait for another paycheck and spare funds or a sale.
Is MK11 on switch good? I didn't know whether to get it since around it's release I heard a lot of criticism about the microtransactions to unlock stuff.

Hey, I think you should check out a game called Dreamscapers, it’s a game on Kickstarter, and they just recently reached their goal to bring the game to Switch, and is planned to release early 2020. They also have a demo on Steam at the moment

Just adore the visuals. Can't remember the last time I've seen such smooth and expressive sprite work.
But for a beatemup, the actual combat looks rather slow.

I was going to get the standard limited edition physical from Best Buy, but they sold out at all the stores!
The last two days I randomly checked to see if they had any in stock or restocked a second print. Yesterday one copy popped up at a store close by! I got it! Not another store within 240 miles that had one according to Best Buy website.
I can only guess someone returned the one I got back to the store. Now I have it.

Just bought this its really fun - agree about the controls, with the skirt girl I keep accidentally doing the "dab" move when im trying to stamp on people's heads which leaves me open to getting my ass kicked lol

Check out 99 Vidas for switch too. It's very very similar to the Scott Pilgrim game. It's got a demo available too so you don't have to purchase it to see what I mean about how similar it is.

It looks so good and I was so hyped to play it with a good friend, but after we heard about these rpg-elements, quests and all the other non-linear-brawler stuff we are mostly shocked. Surely a good game and many people will have a lot of fun, but for us it's far away from a hardcore brawler and so it's a must-skip for us.
Yeah, the river city games always had the RPG elements in. If you are looking for brawlers, you might want to check out the Capcom beat em up collection if you haven’t already. Glen

I like that they actually advertised this game at people who got angry that ubisoft pulled the scott pilgrim game. I'll have to pick this one up for sure.

I don't think there is an Xbox version of this. I certainly haven't seen a physical edition of it.

I have been looking forward to this. Great review it does make me want to pick it up...except something about $45 (AUD) has me hesitating.
It’s probably more the plethora of great games already out and coming out that’s more the problem!
It's worth it plus you are supporting these types of studios for in the future to make more
If you don't have Scot Pilgrim, (given it's almost impossible to obtain it if you kept the digital download due to rights and licensing issues), this should scratch the itch for a good beatemup. But I do think the price is a little high. $20 digital and $29 physical would have made more sense.

This game is absolutely fantastic but it’s a crime there’s no online co-op! At least the sequel is fixing that. With river city saga 3 kingdoms coming soon AND RCG2 this year it’s a great time to be a fan of the series! The only negative I have for this game is the price, for some reason the river city series is always pricey, with great games like hades and hollow knight being around £15 each it’s hard to see why this is like 30

Unlike the lame ass characters that American SJWs think are “cool”.....these guys got it totally right. These girls are hot and kick some serious ass. American liberals have no clue when it comes to what is attractive....in fact they are typically unattractive by design which I’ll never understand. Lol I’m so happy to see how well you guys are doing. Long live Switch Up!!!

I'll hope for a sale on this one but I have credit just waiting there and I'll definitely pay full price if a sale never comes I just think itll get one so I'll try to be patient and while I don't mind playing as the girls I think itd be cool if they made the next one a four player beatem up with the girls and their boys teaming up against another foe as opposed to either one rescuing the other in a sequel

So in guessing like the original you can't buy books to learn different skills. Like acrobatics, etc? I loved buying those different books and seeing how they effected the characters in RCR

You can use the stick or the d pad and double tapping in a certain direction will make you run. Glen
Scott Pilgrim was directly inspired by RCR, I don't think it's really valid to draw a comparison to the two games separately.
Especially since river city been out since 1989 RCR was inspired by Double Dragon, like how streets of rage was inspired by final fight and FF inspired by a 1984 movie " streets of fire "
