Right, I've finally commented on all the videos I've watched so far haha thanks for shouting out the requirements at the start of the video to be in with a chance to win 🏆
Astral Chain is such a gem of a game, I'm really sad that it didn't get attention it deserves, and it turn a sequel, that would perfect the gameplay, in a way Bayonetta 2 did compared to original. It's so stylish and beautiful to look at, with amazing soundtrack, and quite unique gameplay, I really hope that it will develop into series.
I'm really scared that a lot of Platinum Games personnel moved to Hideka Kamiya's new developer team in Capcom, I'm afraid that Astral Chain 2 not gonna happen. :(
I believe that Zelda: BOTW or TOTK are essential for any Switch owners because of the sheer volume and scope of the games which leads to countless wonderful gaming hours - and lots of value for money just from these two titles.
Man, you aren’t lying about that final boss in Metroid Dread. It straight bullied me for days and made me rage quit several times. That being said, I did feel like an elite bounty hunter when I beat it! Still can’t bring myself to replay the game though. Metroid Dread indeed.
But that boss actually felt satisfying, because it was a very good, balanced and fair boss fight. I knew, that when i got hit, it was my fault and he can be beaten without yourself taking any damage. Absolutely incredible game design and an absolute blast. I love this game.
Legends Arceus being the best Pokemon game on the Switch, makes me excited and scared at the same time. I really wish they don't mess up Z-A and just expand on what Arceus was, not only cause the main mechanics were really fun but also because the Kalos region deserves better. And yeah you're absolutely right, loved that you guys included Astral chain in this one, such a good game, I can't stop praising it and I so hope for a sequel coming soon.
The lack of a Santa hat perturbs me 🤣 Astral Chain is a must have. There's nothing quite like it on Switch. I'm quite excited to play it on Switch 2. Hope there's a boost mode of sorts where everything is enhanced.
Looking through the list of chapters is like entering a library of perfection. So many brilliant games here. My son is currently on his third consecutive playthrough on Kirby!
Merry Switchmas, everyone! Not asking Santa for a new game. Instead, I'm asking for time to play the games I already own. Red Dead Redemption is my current game. SwitchUp will convince me to buy another before finishing lol.
I was feeling hopeful for my backlog when I already owned the first nine, but then I only owned one of the last eleven! Guess I still need pile more on the backlog! I also think Tears of the Kingdom is an essential buy, the systems added on top of BOTW are really incredible! Nothing has felt quite as satisfying in a Zelda game to me as beating a shrine using a Zonaite device that you just KNOW isn’t how the puzzle was ever meant to be beaten.
I think I own about half of the games you've shown. I'm currently playing TOTK. For me what makes the game more interesting than BOTW is not the new mechanics, but the introduction of caves, wells, etc.
TotK is really not "the same world". While the overall landscape is mostly unchanged, almost everything in the world (people, enemies, treasure, shrines) is completely different. It also has a bunch of sky islands and an enormous underworld.
Great as always to see Xenoblade repped!! I will say that, even as one of the people who played XC3 first and went back afterwards and absolutely loved it regardless, I'd definitely play the first two beforehand if I had my time back. All 3 are phenomenal games, and the third entry's biggest twists were *far* better my second time round once I had all the context!!
Remember the Warburtons Crumpet Christmas Advert with Kermit.. Merry Crumpets everybody 😂 Got this playing with one earphone on while the Mrs got Xmas film on…. Bliss
Glad to see you guys are feeling better. My favourite game this year was FF7 Rebirth. Whilst it had its issues. Seeing locations look the way I pictured them in my head as a kid was awesome.
I know I’m basic, but BotW is a quintessential Switch game. It was a launch title, but I believe it holds up just as well today as it did when Switch came out. AND if a new player falls in love, once it’s “completed” TotK is right there as a fantastic follow up
What an incredible game that Super Mario Odyssey is, 7 years later and it is still an essential for any Switch player. Mario Kart is the game in which I have the most amount of played hours, it’s still such a blast when my friends come over.
I’m so grateful that they rereleased a ton of Wii U games on the switch. Having Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze has been such a fun game to own. I’m also really got into Metroid Series due to Metroid Dread coming out, it’s now one of my favorite game series
Glad to see you guys are feeling a bit better. Love the Kermit sweater there Glen! I personally loved brothership, I really enjoyed my playthru for sure.
My favourite of the series so far. So many good games - have most of them apart from those released this year. Sold my PS4 on 2018 to buy a Switch and not looked back since. My kids have both grown up with it and love the games. Will be genuinely sad when the Switch 2 comes out - the end of an era.
There are so many fantastic games on for the Switch. I have just over 150 games, mostly physical, and I am not disappointed in any of them. From AAA to Indies. Many games that hit the nostalgia button too! Currently playing the Megaman Battle Network Collection, Moonstone Island, Mario Wonder, Eiyuden Chronicles. The Switch has a game for anyone!
New horizons was my first full animal crossing experience. Man that game just came out at the perfect time with the pandemic and I got to visit all my friends and their islands. I had never been that into that sort of game before and I haven't since. When they come out with the next one it'll be interesting to see if it has the same broad appeal.
Good to see those healthy mugs! Glad you're feeling better gents. Beast of a video. Happy to have spent some time with many of these, Metroid is up next!
It's funny how there were people who wrote off Wind Waker entirely because of the art direction, yet it's the one that mostly everyone remembers instead of the realistic Zelda game everyone wanted, which came in the form of Twilight Princess. With that aside, this is a crackin' list, fellas, and it's always nice to see Donkey Kong get some love. 💚 Hopefully, we'll get a new Donkey Kong entry on the Switch 2. 🤞🤞
I can safely say Xenoblade Chronicles 3 is one of my favorite players in this era of Nintendo. Never have played anything of this series, but I just loved it
Great comment Glen, I totally agree with BOTW trumping TOTK. I just surprised myself by checking the play time of the two games... they're almost exactly the same at around 250 hrs each, but here's the catch; It feels like I put 1000 hrs into BOTW. I'm so much more invested into that game. Yes, the wow factor. Yes, the insane huge open world. Yes, the game physics... they all amazed, but it was primarily that whole package integrated into this amazing world. Latching onto Mark's point, adding to an already established world seemed quite lacklustre if I'm honest and the additional above/underground regions, whilst adding a huge amount of surface area to explore, didn't feel new, more just tacked on.
A friend of mine bought a Switch for TotK and loved it so much that he got the prequel straight after! Both Zeldas essential of course but BotW remains my personal favourite. WHAT a game! 👌🏻
That Kermit xmas jumper is banging .. Astral chains is an amazing game for me anyway. Nice selection of essentials and a good episode.. keep it up guys
As someone in my mid 30s i had stepped away from video games for a good 10 years but I decided to get a switch oled in early 2024 and it was an awesome decision! It's a super premium device. And it's still a good time to pick one up!! (Tons of deals on the Nintendo eshop!) Glad seeing that i own a bunch of the games in your video 😊
Kirby and the forgotten land is a perfect game that isn’t a party game to play with people not quite used to video games. I played with my girlfriend with her playing bandanna waddle Dee and we had a blast
Out of the 20 games mentioned, I own 12. Out of those 12, I finished none😅But in all seriousness, going back to Nintendo was prob the best decision I've made since moving on from PS. It has brought me back to a time when gaming was fun, simple and stress free. Can't wait for Part 2🍻
I loved Astral Chain, it has such a different feel to anything else I've played on the Switch. But I never did get around to finishing it, as both my sets of controllers got drift while I was playing it. Either a coincidence or it was because to run you had to push in the control stick. I still want to finish it one day, but I'll have to start over again from the beginning. And maybe map the run button to something else if possible! I also loved Pokemon Legends Arceus, and I had no idea there was a sequel coming! I've been out of the loop for awhile. I had lost interest in the Pokemon games, and this was the first one in years that peaked my interest and it turned out so fun to play. Like you guys mentioned, it felt like a return to what made Pokemon fun and gave me a similar feeling to first playing Pokemon Red all those years ago. I played a lot more Animal Crossing than I realized when it first came out, but I eventually got tired of it. The fun in it for me was the customization and terraforming, but you had to do a lot of timeskipping if you wanted to play according to your time schedule instead of theirs. That along with smaller things like the unskippable repeated dialog and cutscenes when talking to certain characters or trying to do certain things eventually got too annoying for me. Everything just took so long to do. But now I'm playing the Pocket Camp version now that they released it as a complete game, so I guess the franchise still has its hooks in me 😅
Faultless selection of games. I would recommend all of these apart from Animal Crossing as I've never played it. If you could say all of the good 1st party games then that would cover half of the 12 days of switch up vids!! Keep up the good work guys
Real glad to see Glen a bit on the mend and visible again! Did breath of the wild go up in price?! I do not remember it being that expensive! Absolutely banger list, that I'd recommend to any new switch owner!
To this day, I still haven’t played Metroid dread and I would like to (just haven’t played many Metroid games at all). But it’s always nice to see Mario kart, my personal favorite of the different types of Mario games!

Is the giveaway for the OLED only available in certain regions?
The soundtrack to donkey Kong tropical freeze is sooo good, in addition to being a fantastic game. Some tracks are above excellent
For me, an essential game is one that no matter how many times I play it, it never gets old. Mario RPG would have to be my pick.
Astral Chain is soooo gooood! Top top top Switch exclusive imo. The soundtrack, art-style, and gameplay are a *chef's kiss*.
Gotta pick that up
I haven't played it yet but always have been meaning to pick it up sometime.
Astral Chain was THE game that made me go HOLY CRAP HOW AND WHERE DO I PLAY THIS and then found out it was a Switch game, that just blew my mind.
You'll make me buy it.... I've been hearing about it for way too long ..
Astral Chain is such a gem of a game, I'm really sad that it didn't get attention it deserves,
and it turn a sequel, that would perfect the gameplay, in a way Bayonetta 2 did compared to original.
Seeing Astral Chain and the Metroid games on this list made me very happy. Merry Christmas!
I got Astral Chain last Christmas and i was obsessed with it for a long time
I believe that Zelda: BOTW or TOTK are essential for any Switch owners because of the sheer volume and scope of the games which leads to countless wonderful gaming hours - and lots of value for money just from these two titles.
Well said
Man, you aren’t lying about that final boss in Metroid Dread. It straight bullied me for days and made me rage quit several times. That being said, I did feel like an elite bounty hunter when I beat it! Still can’t bring myself to replay the game though. Metroid Dread indeed.
Same here 😂
But that boss actually felt satisfying, because it was a very good, balanced and fair boss fight. I knew, that when i got hit, it was my fault and he can be beaten without yourself taking any damage. Absolutely incredible game design and an absolute blast. I love this game.
I think Breath of the Wild is THE essential Switch game. It took me 4 years of on/off playing to finish it, but I enjoyed every minute.
Game of the decade
Legends Arceus being the best Pokemon game on the Switch, makes me excited and scared at the same time. I really wish they don't mess up Z-A and just expand on what Arceus was, not only cause the main mechanics were really fun but also because the Kalos region deserves better. And yeah you're absolutely right, loved that you guys included Astral chain in this one, such a good game, I can't stop praising it and I so hope for a sequel coming soon.
Damn I have 16 out of 20 from this list. And two on my wish list yet. No wonder my backlog has gotten out of hand 😂😂
Yay y’all both survived the plague! Crisis averted! The sheer will of needing to complete his backlog kept Glen fighting 😮😂
The lack of a Santa hat perturbs me 🤣
Astral Chain is a must have. There's nothing quite like it on Switch. I'm quite excited to play it on Switch 2. Hope there's a boost mode of sorts where everything is enhanced.
Based. Also throw in the Bayonetta trilogy while you’re at it. And Wonderful 101. Also, Ōkami as a nice way to prepare for the new game!
I second the perturbedness :D
Looking through the list of chapters is like entering a library of perfection. So many brilliant games here. My son is currently on his third consecutive playthrough on Kirby!
Great list! Makes me want to go back and replay some of these awesome games over Christmas break.
Thank you Mark and Glen! Thank you Untold Tales! Never change a winning Team!
I'm so happy that Astral Chain made the list. The game is soooo underappreciated!
Yeah we felt that!! Mark
Merry Switchmas, everyone! Not asking Santa for a new game. Instead, I'm asking for time to play the games I already own. Red Dead Redemption is my current game. SwitchUp will convince me to buy another before finishing lol.
Such a good game still! You planning on playing undead nightmare? I struggled to get into it
A lot of oldies but goldies. DK tropical freeze is really an outstanding platformer. And Captain Toad is one of my favorite puzzle games.
Amazing list! I just got to play Mario Party Jamboree at a friend’s place yesterday. Such a fun time!
Hahah the backlog never wins! Mark
Nearing the halfway point of Switchmas! 🎉
Looking forward to the rest of this gaming journey!
Epic jumpers gentlemen, carry on!
Nice to see Glen looking better after feeling ill. Merry Christmas guys, love the banter you share.
🙏 Thanks!
I think I own about half of the games you've shown. I'm currently playing TOTK. For me what makes the game more interesting than BOTW is not the new mechanics, but the introduction of caves, wells, etc.
Wee hours of the morning here in the Philippines but this video is a can't miss! Thanks for the list, mates!
Hey thanks mate! Mark
All these games are bangers! Shame I only own half of them. Great video as always!
Yes, shame thee's also the best part of $1000 bucks you and I will both need to spend too!
@vidclarke i know right!
Nice seeing your healthy face again, Glen. Great jumper 🎅
Thanks!
Links awakening is a top shout! My favourite Zelda game, despite loving BOTW and TOTK
The problem ain't playing them, or owning them! It's finishing them!
TotK is really not "the same world". While the overall landscape is mostly unchanged, almost everything in the world (people, enemies, treasure, shrines) is completely different. It also has a bunch of sky islands and an enormous underworld.
Great as always to see Xenoblade repped!! Glad to see you guys are feeling better. My favourite game this year was FF7 Rebirth. Whilst it had its issues. Seeing locations look the way I pictured them in my head as a kid was awesome.
Kermit! Good to see you are feeling better guys
I know I’m basic, but BotW is a quintessential Switch game. It was a launch title, but I believe it holds up just as well today as it did when Switch came out. AND if a new player falls in love, once it’s “completed” TotK is right there as a fantastic follow up
The boys are back!
They live!!
Shout out to Astral Chain, can't argue with the more well-known games either, great list.
What an incredible game that Super Mario Odyssey is, 7 years later and it is still an essential for any Switch player. Mario Kart is the game in which I have the most amount of played hours, it’s still such a blast when my friends come over.
MERRY SWITCHMAS! What's everyone's favorite game you played this year!
Shogun Showdown probably, though 9 Sols, Animal Well, and Teal Lotus came real close.
Kingdom come deliverance is the GOAT
Metaphor and Tokyo Xanadu eX+
@@ymarksthespotShogun Showdown is absolutely brilliant. Disappointed it wasn't in the game awards.
Balatro 100%, it has stopped me from getting to my backlog!
Looking good Glen, glad to see you feeling better.
❤
That Kermit jumper is quite nice.
Glen looks less corspe-ified 😂😂 Great to see. Awesome jumper too 😊😊
Hehehehe definitely 80% less corpse like this time! Mark
I’m so grateful that they rereleased a ton of Wii U games on the switch. Having Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze has been such a fun game to own. I’m also really got into Metroid Series due to Metroid Dread coming out, it’s now one of my favorite game series
Ugh, I'm such a Grinch but I have to say...
Seeing this video genuinely put a smile on my face. Merry switchmas
Good to see you are feeling a bit better! I'm missing quite a few essentials here, much work to do!
I really liked astral chain i even listen to the ost in the car sometimes
Tear of the Kingdom and Metroid Prime were the games that got me back into gaming after nearly 15yr hiatus! So freakin good!
You’re BOTH in cracking jumpers! Thanks for the great channel again this year!
For this little essential collection you need to consider loan from bank to enjoy :)
Very true!
Glad to see you guys are feeling a bit better. Love the Kermit sweater there Glen! I personally loved brothership, I really enjoyed my playthru for sure.
The intro to this episode reminds me of the family guy quote "Men, we know how to be friends!" ^_^
My favourite of the series so far. So many good games - have most of them apart from those released this year.
Sold my PS4 on 2018 to buy a Switch and not looked back since. My kids have both grown up with it and love the games.
Will be genuinely sad when the Switch 2 comes out - the end of an era.
Hard to argue against that list, banger after banger. Glad you are on the mend

Great list!
Thanks!
I love the smell of Switchmas in the evenings.
New horizons was my first full animal crossing experience. Man that game just came out at the perfect time with the pandemic and I got to visit all my friends and their islands. I had never been that into that sort of game before and I haven't since. When they come out with the next one it'll be interesting to see if it has the same broad appeal.
Good choices. There's a few on here in my "to get" list.
Super Mario Wonder hooked me in a way that I felt like a kid again. Such a great game.
40 minute Switchup video! I've probably spent the most time on Mario Kart, and the Zelda games. Still want to pickup Kirby and Metroid Prime
We love the Christmas sweater bits guys, thanks.
Good to see those healthy mugs! Glad you're feeling better gents. Beast of a video. Happy to have spent some time with many of these, Metroid is up next!
41 minutes??
_do_ I know it's christmas
That is a very comprehensive list. Looking forward to Part 2!

Happy Switchmas! Glad to hear your voices sounding like they’re on the mend.
That is indeed a rocking sweater, Glen!
A friend of mine bought a Switch for TotK and loved it so much that he got the prequel straight after! Both Zeldas essential of course but BotW remains my personal favourite. WHAT a game! 👌🏻
Wild amount of content lately. Good work gang.
Breath of the Wild will always be reason enough to get a switch. Such an incredible experience and a marvel in game development
That Kermit xmas jumper is banging .. Astral chains is an amazing game for me anyway. Nice selection of essentials and a good episode.. keep it up guys
Part 1… nice!
Astral Chain is such an overlooked gem, I hope more people give it a chance
Astral Chain is the most underrated game of all time. So fun! I dont usually beat games but Astral Chain was really great.
Merry Xmas to you guys
Shoutout to the sponsor Untold tales - Arise is one of my favorite gaming experiences on Switch. I recommend it wholeheartedly
Mark, love the jumper! Great video lads.
As someone in my mid 30s i had stepped away from video games for a good 10 years but I decided to get a switch oled in early 2024 and it was an awesome decision! It's a super premium device. And it's still a good time to pick one up!! (Tons of deals on the Nintendo eshop!)
Glad seeing that i own a bunch of the games in your video 😊
Xenoblade Chronicles 3. Started this as a step into JRPGS and now, Santa’s bringing 1&2 🤓
I’m digging all the love for RPGs in this list. Currently playing through final fantasy 7-12 myself
Pretty festive jumpers tbf 😂
BOTW, Mario ODYSSEY, Mario Kart , Mario 3D world!! From there the backlogs begin to
Kirby and the forgotten land is a perfect game that isn’t a party game to play with people not quite used to video games. I played with my girlfriend with her playing bandanna waddle Dee and we had a blast
I like your vids 😁
The most essential? That’s like asking me to pick my favourite child! I love the Kermit Christmas jumper! Good to see you both again!
Metroid Dread and Mario Bros Wonder managed to be my absolute favorite games on the Switch.
I highly recommend BotW and TotK. They are some of the greatest gaming experiences I’ve ever had.
I loved Astral Chain, it has such a different feel to anything else I've played on the Switch. But I never did get around to finishing it, as both my sets of controllers got drift while I was playing it. Either a coincidence or it was because to run you had to push in the control stick.

Let's goooooo. The Kermit Sweater is classy
I bought a switch to play PLA exactly for the reasons you mentioned, that being the pokemon game I always wanted as a kid
All this content is a Christmas miracle
Faultless selection of games. I would recommend all of these apart from Animal Crossing as I've never played it. If you could say all of the good 1st party games then that would cover half of the 12 days of switch up vids!! Keep up the good work guys
Excellent picks gents and I can hear you in both ears today
So many great games on the list today! May have to start replaying some of them. Thanks guys! You help us rediscover old games and find new games
Nintendo is one of the very few AAA publishers who consistently deliver gold.
