I'm a game developer, and I'm currently working on porting a game to Switch, and one of the things I'm ensuring is that the keyboard and mouse experience works out of the box, just like it would on the PC version.

Nintendo included mouse support in Game Builder Garage and it worked beautifully. But rather than making me appreciate their inclusion of the functionality, it left me annoyed by all the titles that should and could have had mouse support, but didn't. Mario Maker is at the top of that list.

I agree with that. Cause from what I have learnt with using gyro aiming on pc, thumbsticks are terrible for aiming. So devs do a lot of things to make it good. Those things are great for thumbsticks. But once you put those things for gyro aiming or a mouse, aiming feels terrible

Like it can convert basically any controller to switch Xbox etc. I could use two DK Bongos (if I had two) and probably map them so that I can play any switch game with DK bongos. I will get a second pair eventually just to do that, but its not on my priority list.

Hey Bob! New to the channel, actually the first video I stumbled upon was the Gigabyte monitor review. But I stayed for the Switch content and recently I bought a Switch OLED - my first Nintendo console at 29 years of age. I previously was (and still am) a PC and PS/Xbox gamer and did not really understand the hype behind Nintendo titles (Nintendo games/consoles were also not really popular here in Poland ever). But I got tired of the constant "who gets the best graphics" battle instead of "who makes the most enjoyable game" and wanted something new (also, my GF likes to travel a lot so I needed something portable for gaming on the go). So for the first time since it's release I got interested in the Switch and based on your videos I decided to give it a go. And boy oh boy do I love it. I do not have that many games yet but I love the form factor, I love the different ways that I can play games on it and I love the OLED screen. I also got the 8BitDo Pro 2 controller and now I cannot imagine myself going anywhere without these 2. I am sorry for the long post but I just wanted to thank you for making fantastic content in general and "making me" get the Switch. Now, I need to save some money to get these damned Nintendo games :D Cheers!

I made my own version of this kind of device and pretty much every game requires it's own mappings (if you're trying to mirror pc controls/typical fps controls) but yes when a prompt tells you to press a certain button it can become very confusing very fast. I try to still map the letters to the corresponding buttons so if I forget i can just press that letter but that doesn't work for some stuff like... "a". Sometimes you also do things you don't intend to do since often times a button is multi purpose depending on what's focused on screen. The biggest issues is trying to get the mouse to feel decent. The delay you have with yours is frankly unplayable. I got it to a point where it's usable and feels pretty close to what a pc does but the limit is you can't move too fast/too much. You can only provide soo much input to the analog stick so there is nothing that can be done about it, just need to wait for the game to scroll as fast as it can with maxed input.
The other nice thing i have on mine is macro support so 1 input can execute a sequence of inputs in the game. It's not beginner friendly though and actually requires you to know how to program as you need to reprogram it on any configuration changes.

    • @anthonysavatar

I hope you read this WULFF DEN. I have the Gamesir Adapter and it‘s working just fine for me. But if you move the mouse to fast it outspinns. You can configure the color and the key setting in the userfriendly app. There‘s a built-in autoclicker lol. The biggest problem is that when you open the inventory (for example minecraft) you can only drag around the items with space for A and WASD for movement. There should be an option to set a key for changing between different profiles so that you can put the mouse on the left thumbstick and use it as a cursor in the inventory. But overall the adapter works fine for a none-pc-player like me (my parents don’t allow one at the moment and say my switch is enough lol).

This man loves thinking about/feeling controllers as much as me but how have I not ran into him in the city? Is it the inherent desire sensor of nerds? ..I work at a gaming cafe lmao

I have a wireless setup for my keyboard and mouse, so that they're both easy to put away and to move around. In addition, their wireless transmitters are hooked up to a single usb splitter that's easily accessible, meaning it takes me more time to find my second pair of joycons than it does to disconnect my keyboard and mouse from the computer and then connect them to the switch dock.
And what do I do with this info? I use the keyboard to text chat in monster hunter rise

I actually have been wondering if you could use a mouse with a keyboard on the switch, I’ve been playing Undertale and Deltarune recently, both of which support keyboard controls so I was curious to see if a mouse worked as well.

what if they could emulate gyro control with the mouse? it wouldnt work in every game, but those that do might work perfectly like a mouse without as much setup fuss

What about games like baulder's gate 1&2 or civilization? Or "point and click" adventure games. It seems those would benefit greatly from at least mouse support.

Controller + MMO mouse is how I play Halo on my Xbox. Took a minute to get used to it, but it's amazing.
