I've always avoided invisible zippers because I thought you needed the right foot for a sewing machine. Your tutorial was exactly what I needed to finish off an outfit for a wedding next month. Thank you!
What beautiful fabric, and Thank you for the tutorial, i thrilled to hand sew the zipper instead of the machine , so much easier and more control, looks much neater too . 🙂
Thanks so much for taking the time to mke this video. Although we are out of the covid years i still am really enjoying hand sewing. Ive unpicked my invisible zipper 3 times so far and the ironing trick im SURE will make all the difference ❤
I'm glad you liked the video and so sorry for the very tardy reply. I'm not on RUclips much. Would love to know what other techniques you would be interested in learning.
LOVED your tutorial. I too normally put in invisible zippers with an attachment, but it's been quite some time since I've put one in. I'm inserting this one in by hand because the fabric is all-over beaded. I've removed the sequins and beads from the seam allowance and will not proceed to finish my gown for my granddaughter's quince party this weekend. I'm in Vallejo, and would be happy to meet in person and visit your shop. I could use some help with this gown's hem :)
I’m going to follow your tutorial as having problems with my concealed zipper foot and needle position. Therefore I’ve been held up with my project and just to finish it now . Many thanks.
thank you I was looking for this as I had so much fussing with the machine on the invisible zip I decided to do it by hand. I've always installed normal zips by hand but this is my first time trying it on the invisible.
Your videos are exceptional; thank you for taking the time to make them. I've noticed you frequently ask people if they would would like to learn any particular technique. I've been sewing for over 60 years yet I still have trouble with lined skirts having a vent. Have you already made a video about this? If not, would you consider it? I can follow a pattern, but this process always seems difficult. I'd rather learn the "how's and the why's" from scratch so I can truly understand it. Even with experience, I can always learn something new and I look forward to doing so. Thank you!
Hello Alameda! Thanks for this tutorial. I have so much trouble with a machine seam on a thick velvet skirt, I will follow your instructions and sew the invisible zip by hand.
@@ghislaine- Considering you garment is velvet, I'd be willing to bet the end result is MUCH nicer than it would have been had you sewed it by machine, let alone easier. Velvet is quite tricky to work with.
@@PibbleMom297 Hi Jennifer! Yes it was easy and quite fast, and the result is really perfect. I realize it is a mistake to think that machine sewing is always the right and only option. Hi Frederick! Thank you so much for your comment. It encourages me to keep going on the videos, which can be challenging to get motivated to do. Please let me know if there is anything specific you would like to learn.
You can use sleep slightly heavier/thicker thread. The wax is a way to strengthen and stabilize while you hand sew. Make sure your thread isn’t too heavy, however as it might be too hard on the fabric you are using. Good luck 🍀
Is Alameda your name? My father-in-law’s mother was a Salamida (Sicily) just curious if you’re Italian too. Thank you for saving the day with this tutorial. I dont have a zipper foot and my brother-in-law’s wedding is Saturday. Seamstress pal is sick, so I am solo sewin’! 😅😅
I appreciate this so much! I don't have any zipper foots and though some other videos said you could use a regular foot if you were careful, my machine is fussy and I didn't want to break anything.
thanks so much for your comment. I much prefer to do it by hand even though I do have all the feet for my machine. hand sewing gives you so much more control. Good luck and please let me know if there are any other techniques you would like to learn.
Thank you so very much for sharing this how to! I'm needing to hand sew an invisible zipper into a flower girl's dress, because my sewing machine is out for service and using my serger for construction. My question though, is the fabric is a micro- mini sequin and I'm pretty sure it won't clear the sequins to zip, so is it better to sew the tape about an 1/8th inch further from the groove you used to stitch on?
Beckcordell Cordell you might want to consider removing some of the micro sequins. Are they glued or sewn? You will end up seeing a lot of the zip tape if you vere too far away from that groove
Beckcordell Cordell does it have a lining? I would baste the lining to the mesh along the seam allowance before inserting the zip. Basting is a good idea regardless 🤩
@@TheSewingRoomAlameda thank you! Yes, it is a fully lined dressed. Hopefully I can get it finished this weekend. Which simply means my sewing machine will be ready on Monday! 😄
This is a lovely idea - sewing zippers by hand is a nice couture touch and I like to do it if making a "special event" type garment. But I prefer regular zippers. Even when a garment is properly fitted and not too tight, for some reason or other I've found that invisible zips tend to split open rather easily. However, because of this, I haven't used an invisible one for years. Perhaps they're better made now.
I totally agree! Much prefer “regular “ zippers too! I still prefer to do them by hand, but overall much stronger than invisible. Thanks for commenting!
A "p.s." - I think a regular zipper, properly hand-sewn, can look almost as good as an invisible one. What do you think, I'd really appreciate your opinion. Thank you!
@@PibbleMom297 Yes, totally agree. I do them all by hand actually. Because I'm not setting zippers that often, I find that when I do them by machine, they look a little wonky.
