Hi Angela. Ain’t it funny the things we learn. You were teaching how to add a zipper to a finished bag, but the thing I have been needing was that zipper tab. That is just so cool to me.
fantastic! You could also just use some ribbon as well if you don’t want to make a fabric tab. I also have a few methods to make fabric tabs on my channel. Thanks for watching😊
Woot woooh! Notches Sewing to the rescue again! I have several bags like this and some more similar and I've always thought how much nicer and handier they would be with zippers! Thank you for this video!!
I love zippers! This has got to be a unique and different way of installing a zipper. Can't wait to try it out as I like these bags but have always lamented the lack of a solid closure! Thank you!😊
@@NotchesSewing I just added a zipper really easily with the help of this video. I'm pretty new to sewing still but this was great for a beginner - thank you!
Hi I just found your tutorials and enjoy them. I didn't know I could learn so much at my age. Could you make a tutorial for a wrap around head towel for people with long hair. Something that will stay on the head without slipping. Thanks a million!
@@NotchesSewing Buttons get caught up as do the elastic button hole. Something long enough to wrap up the front and maybe tuck in back of the neck. Thank you for getting back to me. .
Hi Angela: Thanks for sharing because I could never have figured it out! Looks great and is perfectly executed. I have a nice canvas tote to practice on. 💜😎🇺🇸
#1 Thank you for such a clear, easy-to-follow zipper installation tutorial! You addressed everything & now I'm actually looking forward to sewing zippers on my totebags! #2 - Your voice sounds a lot like Cher, the mega-star singer & actress. So, in my mind, I just learned how to prepare & install a zipper by Cher. ❤
Oh wow, thank you soooo much for this,I have always been scared to trying sewing a zip,now you have made it look so easy, going to definitely try this. Blessings from South Africa 🇿🇦
Oh yay, I just followed your instructions & sewed my first zip onto a tote bag🥳 😁 now, I'm gonna go add zips to all the tote bags I've sewed for my church, thank you Angela 💃🎉🙏 Sending blessings your way😊@@NotchesSewing
Hello Angelo , how are you ? Colder there now ….we are having unpredictable weather…. Sometimes too hot so we get rainy weekends to cool us down . YOU are the ENGINEER of retro fitting any piece of fabric item !!! I am in awe , how did she figure this out ? Brilliant Einstein sewist of sewing anything . This is a VERY useful tutorial! I got to go find those totes I packed away and put some zippers on them to make them secure from things falling out . You are so neat , very neat …precision too. I will try …but I doubt I can be as neat as you. It’s July already and I have to get started sewing ….not enough time in the months of summer . I can give up some weeks in winter and trade them for more summer weeks. Thanks 🙏🏻 Angela for putting me to work ….Hahahaha .
Hi Berniece! Yes much colder here now. I even turn on the heat sometimes…. Never thought I would do that in Australia….. This is a very simple job to install the zipper. You can do it!! If it helps, use some wash away tape to hold in place but really not necessary. I love using a simple tote but always worried something will slide out….. I heard you are having some wild weather ………. Have a great week and thanks for watching again!🥰
Great video!! Exactly what I was looking for. Where you folded down the top part of the zipper, how would I do that with zipper tape. Or would I need to do that part with zipper tape? I agree with the earlier comment about the significance of the zipper tab. Awesome idea!!
Honestly… I’m sewing since I was about 4yo, am 64 now….. But it is for the first time now that I hear of # numbers for zippers!! How do I know what size it is and where/how can I find some sort of link/list?? Ty
Hi! You can usually find the number on the back side of the slider. The number is size and width of the teeth when closed. So a #3 zipper is 3mm wide. #5 zipper is 5mm wide etc. The link for some size 3 zippers is done in the description of this video under tools I use. Thanks for watching.

How would this work if the tote has a lining and also if you don't want the raw edges of the zipper showing inside?
You would have to sandwich zipper between the two fabrics.
Can you cut a medal zipper
Yes you can but please be careful not to sew onto teeth and break your needle. Hand wheel carefully over the teeth.
Great idea.
Glad you think so!
