This is the only sewing "hacks" video that I have ever seen that actually has unique ideas, not simply rehashing what most accomplished sewists have been utilizing for years! Thank you!
Absolutely brilliant ideas! I even took notes the fourth time I watched it (which was still as interesting as the first time), and have saved the link to watch again. And again. Love your presentation - so smooth and calming.
I love that the video is filled with so much information and no neverending blablabla. This is why I don't like the most sewing videos on YT. It takes "hours" and really much boring *blablabla* until it comes to a little bit informations. But you don't ❤ Your video is pure tips. By th way this is very ADHS/Autism friendly❤️
These are great tips. I am 78 and have been sewing since I was five. Certainly wish I had known these wonderful tips many years ago when I made suits and really nice items. Now I sew just for fun and not to perfection.
This video is worth its weight in gold...if one can weigh it 😄😄 Just superb. Thanks so much. As a mom of three littles, I could use every minute saved!
Brilliant!!! I'm in my 70's and probably started serious sewing when I was in high school. I so appreciate that technology allows the easy sharing of great ideas and in a mere 12 minute video I learned all sorts of things I will be able to apply to my sewing routine. Thanks so much!
Stapling the faux leather seams before you stitch is perfect! I was assembling a 3 piece banner that required precise matching in 5 places along the seam. This is the first time that I didn't have to rip out all or part of the seam. Thank you so much!
Oh. My. Goodness! 😊 I have NEVER seen a better sewing hacks video! I sat watching this entire video with my mouth hanging open 😮 and thinking, 'I need to watch it again and again to write down everything that I need to buy!' I have always loved your videos ❤, and this one has succeeded in amazing me! Thank youuuu! ☺️
Thank you Angela! These are brilliant! I’ve been using the towel holder jig for a couple of years and it’s a game changer. Another trick I use - I attach my filled bobbins to their matching threads with a golf tee.
Leslie… can you put a pic on here of the bobbin and threat I can’t visualise it. Maybe I’m too tired I can quite see how the golf t would stay in place
I do the same. Poke the golf tee through your bobbin, then drop it down into the top of the thread cone. The bobbin rests on top because the tee is wide enough to keep from slipping through and long enough to hold them on top of each other. I never have to search for the matching color bobbin. Get the longest tees and stack a couple bobbins because who wants to run out?!
Fantastic ideas I am 78 and wish you had been around when I started sewing at 9 still better late than never. Thank you so much for such great ideas I will use quite a few of them xx
I ADORE these genious ideas! And I am not joking, the tall spool holder hack with the mug, ruler and bulldog clip is JUST what I need. Thank you so much!
Of course baking parchment is great for working with iron on webbing or stabilizer.. One idea is to use it to apply iron on adhesive to a zipper , then just place the zipper and iron it perfectly in place. Same for shirt pockets.
Thank you for sharing these,I have been useing sewing machines for close to sixty years and have never learnt so many new tricks in one video before.some of these are brilliant.
These are great. Now I need to come up with some projects so I can use them! Sheet metal under the cutting mat, different rulers to turn back the seam allowance and trim batting, mounting tape on BOTH sides as a seam guide, stair rail as a round presser and doubling as a clapper, thin cheap cutting boards as pattern templates. SO many useful tips in 12 minutes. Great editing quickly showing how. New Subscriber.
WHO thinks of these ideas!? My dull empty brain never comes up with original ideas, and I NEVER remember any, even the best. These were ALL great! Thank you!
You’re not alone in forgetting even the best hacks! Now I save the video and do a quick swipe through them when I am in my sewing room, just in case I see one that will be helpful. 😄
I use a medical scalpel as a seam ripper. They are VERY sharp so be cautious but the thin curved blade cuts thread with little effort and it has a nice handle. For bobbin storage those little foam separators for painting your toenails hold your bobbins nicely.
GREAT ideas !! Here's another one... "Glad"PressNSeal to remove lint or pet hair - lay garmet flat, tear off an 18 inch sheet and lay the "sticky" side on the fabric and smooth over it with your hand.😊
Thank you for your wonderful video. Your ideas are amazing! I use empty Dental Floss containers to make a travel sewing kit. They're great for storing a bobbin (wound with thread, along with pins and needles. Plus the dental floss cutter is great for cutting the thread too.
Ha! I've already watched it 3 times, and took a few screenshots while doing so. I was afraid I still might not remember a couple of them. Shared the video on my Facebook page so I could find it again, and several of my friends have enjoyed it too.
I showed this to my husband, he quilts with me. Never too old to learn a new trick, or two. Wonderful video with things we have in the house. Thank you for thinking out of the box and sharing.
1. use transparent duck tape to use as a handle on rulers by gluing it and making glue to itself as a handle. (like the omega sign) 2. Hem on white cloth - I use cinnamon powder.
I've been sewing for 65 years. Thought I knew a lot of hacks however you have provided several that I have never seen and will be using! Thank you!!!!❤❤❤❤
Because most people who sew are probably pretty creative, this may not be a new idea, but it might give someone the nerve to deface a solid wood dining room table. When my mother passed away, none of my siblings wanted her dining room table and chairs. It's the maple everyone had in the 60s and 70s. I already had a beautiful antique dining table but I didn't want to get rid of my mother's, so I turned it into my sewing table. It is round with two leaves that make it into a huge oval. After a moment of asking my mother's forgiveness, I drew a huge grid on it and then used a wood burning tool with a very fine tip to make it permanent. That gives me a workspace of 6ft x 4ft. I do a ton of crafting as well, so it gets a lot of use. I'm blessed to have a dedicated room for all my mess, so having to move this massive heavy maple table isn't necessary unless I need that room as a guest bedroom. I think my mother would approve considering how much use it gets.
Thanks for sharing your story. It think your mother would be very happy knowing how useful you've made it! Did you have to raise the legs at all? I use bookcases all around as the bases for my cutting table as I like my surface to be high.
I'm actually embarrassed to say that many of these ideas are new to me. I have been sewing, embroidering, quilting for 70+ years! My daughter says I am always reinventing the wheel because I love to use common household things to substitute for clever but more expensive manufactured items. But you are a genius at this! Your simple, effective presentation is so welcome I figure that if we're clever enough to sew, we can easily understand and appreciate your amazing ideas. I'm guessing that your brilliant ideas extend to repairs and innovations around your house.
You have one of the best sewing channels I've seen. Even though you are a professional, it's wonderful you understand us self taught or newbie sewers. Very inspirational 💐
These are so brilliant, I am definitely saving this video! I added extra elastic to my wrist pincushion so it would fit around my sewing machine ~ very handy to stick your pins in while sewing.

I've been sewing for 60+ years and even did upholstery for a few years...Wow! I do wish I had known these hacks a couple of decades earlier! Brilliant!
My best hack = I use cheap $1 store yellow sponges with the green scrubber to clean my cutting board. The straight edge is great for running along side the ruler when you have to trim off a little fabric or threads ❤
Your sewing hacks are amazing, I would ❤ your simple amazing ideas 6 decades ago, I use to sew a lot, even carried my Singer w me when I was TDY or deployed other times I'd hand stitch lace my girls socks embroidery & knotting, now I shall share your smart advice with my daughters grands & grt grands. WOW! This is such an incredible video! Each & every hack/tip you demonstrated was fabulous! I don’t know how you created so many practical tips, but I truly appreciate them all! I will h as be to view this video many times, in order to select the top 5-10 tips that I should use immediately - thank you for such an awesome video!!
I'm so glad I watched this! Simple hacks, extremely useful information, and not the usual rehashing of the same ideas. I have been sewing since I was 7. Almost 50 years! Recently, I bought a magnetic seam aligner and my bobbin jams and has created thread tangles every time I use it. The double-sided tape trick is definitely what I will use from now on. I use crochet hooks or long handled rounded tip scissors for corners and canned food for fabric weights. Your bobbin storage ideas are absolutely genius. I just wish I had seen this before buying the plastic clips I have. It's been hard to see the true colors of the thread through the colorful clips, so I ended up buying bobbin holders that sit atop the spool of thread that matches. 😂 thanks so much for this video!
This is 1 of the best sewing hack videos I've ever seen. I don't sew that much anymore, but you make me want to go buy every last thing on this video just to see how convenient they are.

I do a ton of crafting as well, so it gets a lot of use. I'm blessed to have a dedicated room for all my mess, so having to move this massive heavy maple table isn't necessary unless I need that room as a guest bedroom. Painters tape makes a good guide ledge, spoon handles & crochet hooks are great for turning.
thank you! I also use painters tape on the machine itself when sewing vinyl so it doesn’t stick .
I use (inexpensive) plastic acquarium tubing instead of cotton cording for corded piping. It has held up much better and looks smoother.

Hint for drilling holes in plastic. Use a “step bit”. Will not crack the plastic and has multiple sizes in one bit.
Or a wood burner or soldiering (?sp) iron
