I'm super duper sensitive to fragrances/harsh chemicals & though it can be annoying sometimes or people think I'm being difficult, I've learned to be grateful that my body is so quick to alert me when I'm in contact with/breathing in harmful chemicals.

After working in a higher volume studio: I totally agree with the respirator tip. Depending on production volume /sensitivity you may like wearing goggles as well. Red Clover tea is nice for allergies/respiratory irritations.
@@merendofamily There's a huge difference between what off-gasses from a finished candle when you burn it, and what off-gasses from the ingredients when they're all hot, liquid, and higher volume. The saturation of what you're breathing in during the manufacturing process is much, much higher, and can contain different gasses and particles than what is in the finished product (due to chemical changes, etc). A fragrance that is "safe" to breathe when released during candle burn can be really harmful when breathed in while mixing batches, due to the difference in volume of the chemicals. Read the MSDS for your ingredients - you'd be surprised how nasty they can be at batch volume! Really, though, there's just no reason not to protect your lungs when you're doing anything that could cause you to breathe in gases or particles that aren't in what is considered normal, clean air. Lung issues are no joke!

Don't give up over 50% of people who get into candle making quit because they can't get the mixture right. One you have to find the right wax. Two all candle vessels are not created equal. Three all fragrances or essential oils have a different flashpoint. Four there are many things to consider what size wick how wide and how to adhere it to the bottom of the vessel. Took me a full year to launch . Just launched 2weeks ago and have had 10 sales and now I have a few shelves in a store. I only sell locally and dont even ship . I hate using fragrances and I am extremely sensitive to smell as well ... I leave the window open and fan on ... I might buy a respirator.... main thing I wish I knew was to pay attention to the flashpoint when using fragrance oils . Havent perfected pure essential oils but it's my goal this year . Good suggestion on the respirator!!
Thing I hate most about the suppliers is that lots of natural waxes are some kind of secret blend, and tho you cannot be replace with an alternative without testing. Also the suppliers can deliver anything they want since there are no clear ingredients, and if they are we cannot test it.. I think they can sell Soy-wax with 70% paraffin wax and still call it Soy. They can start with 50% soy and 50% Parafine and nothing stopping them for going towards 30/70 if they cannot get the soy. Meanwhile we are all asking ourself why our candles aren't burning like they should. I definitely would be interested in mixing my own blend from pure ingredients.
Be very careful with fragrance oils in large quantities, both on your skin and in your lungs. Not only are they flammable, but also can be toxic. Check SDS sheets on manufacturers websites. Try to use as much ventilation as you can especially if you’re working out of your home. Fumes can get sucked into your HVAC system and pump fragrance fumes around your house haha Depending on how small the room is you may want the larger organic vapor cartridge filters
Hi, Erica wow your video and audio are so much better with your new equipment. How is the Moulin Rouge doing? Do you think you'll try a different style jar in the future?
I like my presto pot but idk I have been having trouble with the net weight coming out accurate when I use it. My process is to melt the wax, then pour the amount I need into the pouring pot, add the require FO but when I pour into the jars, the weight is off sometimes by 10 grams. Ive changed my scales, kitchen and pocket scale but I’m still having the same issue. It’s stressing me out a LOT. Other than that, the idea of the time it saves is on point.
Grt video, you’re v generous in your advice so thank you. Can l ask if reheating the wax in the presto pot thing .. lm European so notsure what our version is called.. but does reheating over and over compromise the wax at all ?

6:40 ... I'm dying because I'm the same. Lucky I went and bought a bunch of pocket size sketch books and some Micron pens so I'm dedicating one to my hobby. I usually keep a general version of this, but at 3 finished books of notes, jumping around is difficult.

Oh yeah...I can totally attest that the note pad in your phone is a bad idea. I also make soap and lost my notes on all my soaps.
Would love to hear about your chat with the CPA!!
Thank you so much for this video !! Your gonna be my candle god 😂🦋 I’m looking into the candle business just getting started and doing research your video helped me a lot and I got so amazing notes
Headache? Stomach ache?Suffocating? Tight chest ? What kind of chemicals you are using to make those candles? Is it safe for your customers to burn them ?
Check out this video on why I wear a respirator:

I’m asthmatic so the respirator is fantastic advice 💛
Me too ❤️ I hope it helps you!
This was very helpful, thank you! I'm preparing to make my first batch of candles! 💜
I am so nervous to get started the market is so saturated but this is something I really want to do
Same
Same here. The good thing is that a lot of people want candles, so we should all be okay.
It’s all in the selling ...
Great information , definitely will use it. Thank you so much
Very helpful information! Thank you so much!
Loved this video! I am opening a candle Etsy shop and these tips were super helpful! Thanks!

Thank you!!
I’m happy I came across ur channel! Ur very helpful 🤩🥰
Yessssssssss to this video !!! thank you !!
When u get those I don’t Mind a hand me down pesto pot 😂😂😂 thanks for this information
😂❤️
Good idea about having a testing notebook. I'm just starting out and I will definitely keep one. Thank you. Love your videos.
This is very interesting to think about!
Your video is inspirational for me to seek ingredients that are not toxic needing a gas mask, thank you
When are you going to make a video about taxes and that stuff?? 🥺 Lovee your videos and appreciate your workk❤️!!
Be very careful with fragrance oils in large quantities, both on your skin and in your lungs.
Not only are they flammable, but also can be toxic. Check SDS sheets on manufacturers websites.
Try to use as much ventilation as you can especially if you’re working out of your home.
Fumes can get sucked into your HVAC system and pump fragrance fumes around your house haha
Depending on how small the room is you may want the larger organic vapor cartridge filters
Thank you for sharing! Very helpful :)
Did you ever do a video on the questions you asked the CPA and what to do about bookkeeping and whatnot?
This was great, thank you!
Great tips ❤️ loved the respirator tip ❤️
Question did you start selling your candles with out labels when you started or not
I did but it's so much better with them
Hi, Erica wow your video and audio are so much better with your new equipment. How is the Moulin Rouge doing? Do you think you'll try a different style jar in the future?
Love your videos! You’ve been super helpful ❤️
I also have a small business on etsy! It is called Lovable Creations by MJ! I started 1 year ago. My business is not doing too well, sadly.
why do you think it’s not doing well?
@@user-tx5vr2lu6e I have no idea.
Are you still selling on etsy?
@@draugh1r219 Yes I am! I also started a second Etsy shop.

House of Wax 👽

@@draugh1r219 um not good 🙃 I don't have a camera and I have problems with photography and Instagram design
@@ghazalehmt5037 uh ok, sad to ear that, do you have a website or you didn't started for that?
6:40 ... I'm dying because I'm the same. Lucky I went and bought a bunch of pocket size sketch books and some Micron pens so I'm dedicating one to my hobby. I usually keep a general version of this, but at 3 finished books of notes, jumping around is difficult.
Thank you! This was really helpful

Thank you so much for sharing this amazing video ♥️♥️♥️♥️
Hi there what do you recommend for how to list ounces and grams on a candle in regards to rounding down or rounding up? My candles aren’t exactly the same number every time because I have different scents and it might fluctuate the smallest degree each time I make an individual candle.
Just found your channel and am loving your vids- have already learned so much good stuff from you- thank you!! 😊
Aw thank you for watching!!
I really appreciate all your videos. They are so good and teach me a lot. What about LLC, DBA, trademark? Do we need one of those to start a candle business?
You need those to start ANY business
I started around lock down and then had a break for about a year since due to another venture. I've recently gone back to it and still cannot crack a first decent candle
Im melting like a candle because you’re so beautiful 😅😅😅. Thanks for the Tips!
