I remember watching this video about 1 year ago .when i wanted to learn how to make candles and now I'm in the process of opening my website . I am for ever grateful Erica for sharing all your knowledge with us . Thank you so much i hope you continue growing with your channel and your candles store .
This is exactly the type of instruction video I was looking for in candle making. Organised, insightful and very well articulated. Well done! Thank you 😊
While I'm learning to make candles myself, I've found that multiplying water weight by .86 will give you a pretty accurate weight for the wax needed to fill your container. This is good to know if you want to make only one candle and need to know how much wax to melt. Melted wax weighs the same as when not melted. Thank you, Erica, for taking the time to make this video.
The fill weight always threw me off when I was first getting started on making my coconut wax candles 🤣 It's a lot of fun to be a candlemaker, I'm glad I'm part of this community!
SO GLAD I FOUND YOU! I’m starting a small candle business as a hobby and your RUclips, Amazon, and Etsy for candle makers is going to be SO helpful! Thank you for this. Everyone seems to be so secret on how to start a business for candles haha!
I really enjoy using the CandleScience method for oil loads and additives to the wax. Take how much wax you'll be pouring, multiply that by the percentage of oil you're adding depending on what your wax can hold. I usually pour in very small batches, so 16 ounces multiplied by 8%. It tells me that I need 1.28, or rounded up to 1.30, ounces of fragrance oil needed to be mixed with my wax. And I find that the easiest way to clean out remnants of wax in a pitcher is boiling or almost boiling water. Just pour it in, and wait a bit. The wax will melt off the edges and form up at the top, then you can just skim it off and reuse the water for washing dishes or something.
I actually wanted to start a resin business until I saw all these candle diys and remembered that I loved making candles when I was a child, I might make a swap 😂🙈
I’ve been looking to start my own candle business for a while but have been nervous to start as I didn’t feel fully informed but after this video I feel so much better! Thank you so much for such a well done and informative video!!
Thank you so much for sharing all that you've learned. I've been wanting to make candles for so many years but thought the process might be too much. This looks like such a fun hobby and way to make some extra money on the side. Candles are my favorite, so even if I made them as gifts for loved ones, this is great!
I so enjoy all of yours videos Erica! They are so helpful! Thanks for being genuine and open about the fact you aren’t perfect but still a successful candle maker, that’s actually comforting to newbies😊😊
Great, informative video. I’m not crafty but I’ve been thinking of repurposing my empty Altoid tins and making mostly unscented emergency candles. After doing some searching I found a leather scent and an Old Spice scent. You got me thinking of some more masculine scented candles, in a more “rugged” container. Thanks for the information.
Erica, you should add this playlist to a DVD and sell it. I will be purchasing one. Because it's hard to keep up with so many videos that are important case specific. Please. I'm game!
I'm in the process of doing a candle business myself, the question I'd like to ask is how did you manage to come up with a name for your business? And the next question I'd like to ask is when you put your scents in your candles do you make up names for the scents or are they named already, I seen a few on your Instagram page! Many thanks

You can't imagine how many DIY soy wax candles videos I saw and I can't founded a decent tutorial in Spanish (I´m from México)...I don't know how but finally found your channel. Thank you so much. Wow! just found your channel totally new to candle making, clicked on your beginners playlist expecting 3 or 4 videos and you got 23 ... that's so cool of you. Since I haven't gotten started yet I guess I'll spend today watching every one of your videos. So much appreciation thank you Erica!
It is always interesting to watch other candle makers, make their candles. Although there are general steps we all follow, every candle maker is unique in their own way. I always enjoy watching your videos and you give some good advice and try to be thorough. May I suggest you do a wax melt video next, to kind of stay in a series of making videos? Also have you considered scoopable wax? I've been making it for awhile and I have a decent client base with it. Thanks for the video!
I saw a tip where the lady said to heat the vessel up a bit so when the wax solidifies there's not a little gap between the wax and vessel. Thanks for the tutorial and sharing your process!
This is so funny! I get EVERYTHING you are saying, because I’m a soap maker. I use ounces, (just easier for me in soap) but I can do grams as well if I HAVE TO. I was hoping you would talk about the different waxes out there, so I’m gonna keep watching!
I am so excited about starting my business i already got my dba filed n got my business cards yay now i can start practing on my candles i want to ipen by the end of this year
Looks super easy. Just need the right tools and away you go and a lot of patience. I'm going to get it a whirl. If I fail, I'll try something else or go back to work. 🙂Have a few months off so I'll try it, hopefully it works for me. Thanks for the video. Very helpful and good luck with your channel.
Hey! If you don’t mind me asking, what type of wax do you use? I never have a strong hot throw even if cure my candles for 1-2 weeks. I was adding FO at 180 and it never came out strong. I tried Standley’s method to do it at a low temp and I still didn’t get a strong hot throw. Idk what I am doing wrong. I wasted 10lbs of 444 wax.
So Mystified soy wax doesn’t throw any fragrance at all and is not consistent I’ve heard people call it “picky” but I personally think it just wreaks. 🤷🏻♀️ try a good ol’ paraffin blend. I use 4627. Also I’ve tried his Method on both the soy wax and the paraffin blend to no avail
@@naishlarox23 I'll just add that candles are a complete system. Your ability to summon a hot throw comes from the crossroads where everything meets - fragrance quality, amount, wax type, workmanship/technique (including curing), container, and most importantly, the wick. Everything added impacts everything added. +1 to the paraffin blend - you get the performance qualities of paraffin and the burn length of soy without struggling so much with soy being so darn polymorphic!
Thanks so much for his video. I just started my candle business and have a question about the wax melting pot. Do you leave the wax in there and just turn it on when your get ready to make candles? Could you possibly make a video about the melting pot? Pros Cons? I would really appreciate it.

Love these types of informative videos. Thank you for doing that. Would love to see the wax process from unboxing to chopping it and melting it. Would also love to have a video of you packing shipments for orders. Those are interesting. Have you ever done one on the business side of it? The process of getting that business part set up, the insurance, the website process for taking orders, sales tax, batching lots, etc....

huge questionnn! I'm starting off with candle making to hopefully start a website. I have everything except containers! They are soooo expensive! Do you know any place that sells them for a reasonable rate and do you recommend selling three different sizes of containers or just one when your first starting off. Thank youu!

Amazing video, thank you. I'm a beginner and love the science behind candle making. Yours was the only video I have found that is technical enough to satisfy my preciseness. And I love, love, love your formula for calculating the weight of wax and fragrance required. I took it one step further, took the weight of water required for my desired fill level, then used the density of the wax on the msds to convert to the wax weight. And guess what? I ended up with the most perfect fill level with absolutely no wastage first time 😍 Mega win xxx P.s. It astounds me, the number of videos out there that use random cup measurements, teaspoons of essential oils and heating with a microwave resulting in serious leftovers - argh!
Hi! Paraffin wax holds fragrance more strongly than any other wax but it’s harmful as it emits toxics and black smoke. It’s all about what the purpose of your candles is going to be!
Soy has additives to make it burn. The high consumption of soy also has a negative impact on the environment-some makers won't use soy because of that. The lady was using paper cups to measure in her video-not good for environment?
Hi! Thanks for this video, it has helped me a lot to start my candle making journey☺️ i wonder why you mix your fragance oil at 180 instead of 160 like you used to.
This is so helpful. I have a candle making kit coming in the mail soon. I love candles and want to know how to make them so I can sell them. Thank you for this video.
My kit just came in today and making the first few candles was so exciting. I’m waiting for more resources to come in to get ready for the actual selling part
take a used ball point pen, take the ink out and use the tube and put the wick in it to guide it down. makes it SO much easier to get it to the bottom where you want it.
This was a good video. Thank you for posting. I have one piece of advice for you. Stop using that budget infrared thermometer. Etekcity, like all other budget thermometers are very inaccurate and inconsistent. I have seen these IR devices off by as much as 65.6F and swing by as much as 23F. I have just started learning about candle making. But one of the first things I learned is that wax should be heated to 170F to 185F. And that it should be poured between 150F - 165F. Those are very narrow temp ranges for devices that are so inaccurate and unreliable. If your heart is set on IR, then I recommend you save your money and invest in a Fluke. They are expensive for a reason. No other brand is as accurate and reliable. An alternative is a good lab thermometer. I found them on Amazon for $30-$50. Because they operate on the same principal as mercury, they are very accurate and respond faster than dial thermometers. The caveat is that they must be handled gently.
Thanks for this! I’m trying to start candles and have yet to make a decent candle with hot throw after making so many. I’m super careful and use all the tips, but no luck so far. I’ll keep trying!
Great video, thank you. Can you show us in the next video the end product of the candle whether it is smooth at the top or any problems with the candle that you may need to fix?
Love this, have you ever bought from Luxury Candle Supplies Australia? Sooo many jars and their M12 Wax sets the best and has an amazing hot and cold scent throw

I took it one step further, took the weight of water required for my desired fill level, then used the density of the wax on the msds to convert to the wax weight. And guess what? I ended up with the most perfect fill level with absolutely no wastage first time 😍 Mega win xxx
P.s. It astounds me, the number of videos out there that use random cup measurements, teaspoons of essential oils and heating with a microwave resulting in serious leftovers - argh!
Oh awesome! So happy you enjoyed ☺️
Hi☺️would you recommend paraffin wax?
Thank you so much
Thank you for sharing, I've been thinking about doing some for myself and maybe just a few gifts.
This is the *BEST* candle making video I've ever seen! This is SO helpful! 🥰🙌🥰
Aw thank you soo much!! I’m glad! 🥰
Hi Erica! I wanted to know if you could do a video on what you use to color your candle and when do you add color to candle.
Thank you for sharing this with us. My daughter and I want to make a home business with candles. We want to learn first before starting
@@mati_mkg1271 where did you order your kit from?
take a used ball point pen, take the ink out and use the tube and put the wick in it to guide it down. makes it SO much easier to get it to the bottom where you want it.
Yes I’ve tried this! It’s definitely easy to control but it takes longer for me :)
I like to pour in that range, your candles turned beautiful!!
This is really helpful. I'm starting to learn candle making. I hope my first try will do me justice.
Try to have fun with it ☺️
You’re videos are very helpful for making candles and the business in general
Thanks for this! I’m trying to start candles and have yet to make a decent candle with hot throw after making so many. I’m super careful and use all the tips, but no luck so far. I’ll keep trying!
Keep going!! 💜
Hi Eri! I wanted to ask you if you remember what wick numbers did you use on this container? and if you prefer eco or cd on soy wax. Thank you!😊
Great video, thank you.
Thank you! I love your videos,I am getting started with my own candle making business and am hoping to do well with it!
You explain this so well! Best video I’ve seen ! Thank you !
Thank you so much for watching!! ☺️
Great video for a beginner! I couldn't find the link for the small gram scale to weight the fragrance oil. Thank you.
Another awesome video, Erica! You must have been a teacher in a past life ..you're a natural. Keep the videos coming!!!
Aww thank you!! Funny thing is I almost became a teacher!
Do you have a video on clean up? I am just doing this as a hobby and just tried for the first time today-- but how do you clean your pouring pot and what do you do w left over wax?
