It's been 6 years and he ought to have done so in jail, but Pell has died. May those who suffered at his hands (or as a result of his inaction) find some form of closure upon this man's passing.
@@DocTight Yes, he came home when he didnt even have to. And he was AQUITTED in an historical decision were all judges UNANIMOUSLY AGREED and did not differ on one point.
Steve Price thinks "it is really disgusting the way he (Tim) has resorted to personal abuse of George Pell". Using that word (abuse) to describe a song, is disgusting in the context of actual abuse of boys by priests.
It really isn't necessary as he's covered everything in his original song He puts a white beard on and he goes to HELL. Guys let's remember this is NO laughing matter!!! I'm imagining how hurt and raw all these emotions on the victims (one ALREADY dead of an OD!!:((() And to micheal "advocate" you just broke my heart yesterday as you were shouting abuse at him. How was your day in the lock up Pell???
@Beth Beth YOU again!!!!????? Spreading this SHIT and everyone ignores YOU!!! Bad time for Catholics right now but ALL my Catholic mates including priests are just TOO ashamed to even comment. If you want to live in denial that's YR problem..don't make it ours TOO BY saying this crud!
i grew up in Ballarat. i know David Ridsdale (shared a flat with him for a couple of years). David's pain is as raw now as when these atrocities were first committed. Cardinal Pell offered money to David to keep quiet about his own and other peoples abuses. David refused and has been fighting for an apology from and a change in the church culture for nearly 40 years. David Ridsdale should be hailed as a hero of human rights activists. His strength and purpose need to be recognised. He stands up for all victims of abuse, and i am grateful that he can stand up and do what so many others were too broken to do.
+Xanara1001 did David Ridsdale tell you about his 1982 conviction for two counts of indecent assault on a boy??? The hypocrisy.... he may hate Pell but at least Pell did not assault boys like your ex flat mate did.
+1601tgc... Yeah, but David Risdale also handed himself into the police, sparing those boys a long investigation and trial, which would have only added to their pain. And he served his sentence. And he came out about his conviction to 60 Minutes, so its hardly a secret. Sex offending by child victims of sexual abuse isn't automatic by any means (most victims don't go on to sexually offend themselves) but it still happens. It sounds to me as if David Risdale has confronted his darkest demons and has been working to make things better for a long time. Nothing can undo what he did to his two victims, but he is doing what he can. I can respect that.
Leah melody I hope I don't have to either... not for the sake of argument but for the sake that a false accusation is better than a real accusation in so far as there was no abuse. Time will tell and I hope he is innocent of those charges just as much as I hope a murderer is innocent to the extent the crime never happened.
All you ghouls are sick. Cardinal Pell was proven innocent by your own godless court system. He is smiling down in eternal happiness now. You have NO joy at his passing.
I see the photo on your profile seems to be of an unbaptised, demonic child...your postings against Pells innocence can be sued for as you have labelled him. I believe his family can sue you..
@Amanda Smith Amanda, You are a nasty liar. Pell was innocent. Have you killed unborn children via your use of the pill or Abortion. Jesus won't let you away with that.
Australian and proud of Minchin. LMFAO. OZ is a moral cesspit. Pell was the best of you. Bet you've been around the block...criminals, skin cancer, disease, lock up of children in stadia during Covid. Nature punishing you. Stealing the land from the Ab Original people...and f@#king pervert Minchin makes you proud. What f@#king Planet..! You Dope!
I legitimately love Mr. Minchin for this song. As a survivor myself it is heartening to hear someone put these sentiments into lyrics. Thanks, Tim. Really, it means a lot. I can hear the anger resonating in this, despite the cheerful tone. Too many get away with sweeping it under the carpet.
Thankyou Tim. I'm a survior. Survived and thrived. Good home and am looking after beautiful children of my own. IT has been said living well or happily is the best way to handle past abuse.Doing my best. Your understanding , music and lyrics go a very long way in support and healing.
@Sharon Mccaffrey Forgive us. And you all, people, you should be ashamed of yourselves. HYPOCRITES. How can you not believe the priest who's covering for Pell? How can you believe those children and not the holy man? I'm sorry, Sharon. We were on the wrong side of this battle the whole time. There is no worse blind than the one who doesn't want to see. Let's repent. We turned our faces away from you, God, but like Saul on the Damascus road, You sent a messenger to us and so, now we've had the truth revealed to us... On a serious note, Shar, people like you live a hundred years.
I think what most people here are forgetting is that the Catholic Church does not believe that priests should be punished for doing anything wrong in this life. In fact as long as they ask for forgiveness, not from those they harm and abuse, but from another priest, they will get to go to heaven and sit at the right hand of Jesus. The Catholic Church is pure unadulterated evil and how people can still belong to this awful cult is beyond me.
+oscargordon - Interesting that Cardinal Pell seems to be really worried that sitting on an airplane might taking him to heaven just a bit sooner. Whatever does he have to fear from that, I wonder?
Everywhere2 I travel quite a bit to obscure places and there is this thing called MedJet insurance that will get you evacuated immediately with whatever medical precautions are needed if you become sick or injured. One would think that with the hundreds of millions that the Catholic Church has paid in hush money to abuse victims, they could afford to get him and his medical team flown to Australia without having to fly coach on a budget airline.
+oscargordon There is a doctor in Perth who is happy to fly to Rome and bring back Cardinal Pell, even pay for his first class flight. Here is a link to the article in the Sydney Morning Herald: www.smh.com.au/national/doctors-offer-to-get-cardinal-george-pell-back-to-the-royal-commission-safe-and-sound-20160211-gmra1p.html
I recently recovered some memories about my abuser using religion as an excuse for the abuse. I just so happened to stumble upon this song and it was so liberating. Thank you.
Never heard of him, wikipediaed that bastard and now I"m more educated. Thank you. Oh and it was also quite entertaining, as always. If these hypocritical power-loving puppet masters weren't around to string along the naive, what would you have to sing about? I'd sacrifice it. Thanks again, Mr. Minchin
+crodley : The first time I saw George Pell was on the 7.30 report back in the days when he was a Canon* - so that would be 20 or 25 or so years ago. I thought he looked like the sort of person who would use his fists in back alleys, all the while relying on sounding well-educated to get away with it.* Clerical rank in the Catholic Church, not a photocopier & printer!
But, you see, although the victim was "compelling", it was "uncorroborated". Next time, I guess Georgie should video it, to avoid these silly uncertainties. Three cheers for "justice". Bloody hell.
@Zebra M your right. Those pedo priests made that decision to touch kiddies and hide their friends on there own. The church will destroy itself unless it changes. BTW Pell got 7 years... He's guilty. Have fun living with the fact that you've sold your soul to an organization that hides child molesters. If there is a hell I'm sure it's full of pedo priests. If you really believed you wouldn't hide these assholes.
I didn't come here right away, but I sure as hell thought of this song the next instant after hearing the news. Cardinal Pell was on my list of people I will drink a toast to their bones in joyful celebration of their death after hearing of their death
I FUCKING love Tim munching so FUCKING much. Though I am not a survivor of SA, almost every single one of my friends is (and honestly I’m not sure how it’s not happened to me, I’ve certainly had close calls and awkward moments that I was alone) and this means so much to me but especially to those who have been sa’d. To those out there who have gone through that trauma- though I’m not in your shoes, and I can’t imagine how you feel, just know that there are so many people who care about you and you can and will get through this. Your body is not lost, nor is your person. No one took YOU away from YOU. Your body is yours- even if it doesn’t feel that way. I promise everything is going to be okay, and even though I have no idea who you are and you have no idea who I am, I love you, seriously. I hope everyone reading this has a fucking awesome life and rest of their day (and also Tim munchkin I hope your life is like fucking butterflies and rainbows) Dude I can’t believe Tim is this cool of a person, he was already my favorite musician and artist just because of his non-pigeonholable sort of style but also his personality and his voice is so fucking cool (and I can’t get over his hair it’s literally the quirkiest coolest most “him” thing ever) but this puts the cherry on top of him being my favorite artist lol
Thankyou Tim 🌹Today we all speak highly of you..Pells dead & everyone ive spoken to today was singing ur praise..one can only hope ur asked to sing at his Funeral 💝🦂
@joe sikic You ought to change your name by deed pole to Joe Sick. At least there is a growing awareness of how rife the false accusations are today. Man Utd had a player cleared today....I bet you have your share of shameless self indulgence done in your own life. "Progressives" are like that and have nothing to bring to their relationships but their worn out, spent bodies. Pell is INNOCENT. He has won. You are a loser, HERR Sick.
Cardinal Pell died cos he was an elderly man who had complications following an operation ... Of course after being wrongly convicted the highest court found him not guilty by 7 - 0 ..... He has reached his aim and is in heaven ... Mr Minchin has still not shown any dignity and not apologised!!
I hear the tolling of the bell and it has a Pellian knell - *_goes to lookup the definition of knell_* "the sound of a bell, especially when rung solemnly for a death or funeral." God damn, the aptness of the lyric combined with the 3rd degree burn he just dispensed! Tim Minchin is a word-smith of the highest order.
@@1234poppycat This song is not about the charges against Pell himself. It's about him helping to cover up abuse by other priests - exactly what the royal commission into his and the church's actions found.
@Beth I don't know what news sources you're reading, but you're just plain wrong. George Pell has been found guilty of historical child sexual offences. In a month or so's time, the judge will decide what punishment that entails.
A perfect day to revisit this song, as today is the day that Cardinal Pell went straight to Hell. Good riddance. Hopefully today this track will get a lot of downloads and generate more money for the survivors of abuse by members of the Catholic Church in Australia. It's a tragedy that so many of them took their own lives, and were outlived by George Pell (1941 - 2023).

@@1234poppycatwhy should Tim apologize. George didn't do anything himself but he protected pedophiles. That's just as bad. That's beyond a mistake . The amount of people here trying to protect a pedophile enabler at the expense of children is disgusting
His appeal was rejected today (21 August 2019). He's still in prison. This is joyous to many of his victims. He also used his seniority for decades in protecting other priests.
He actually weeded out paedophiles and there were no new abuse cases under his authority. Weinberg rightfully dissented in his favour. Thankfully this will likely reach the High Court. The majority possition is an assault on the presumption of innocence, the burden of proof and due process.
As a victim of abuse I feel horrified to see child abuse being used for political and ideological purposes, and to watch people celebrate as the Victoria police pursued Pell while protecting actual paedophiles when they were part of the elite.
I was showed this song by a friend who's family knows Cardinal Pell on a personal level. And I can't express how much I love this song. As a victim of Child Sex Abuse, this song gives me so much hope, that people are starting to stand up against the institutions, and really beginning to fight for the survivors to obtain justice! Thank's Tim! (And so catchy!)

Cardinal Pell returns Is persecuted in the Media has crowds outside his jury trial intimidating witnesses and the Jury Faced down the injustice ... Then with great dignity eventually got Justice Amazing Good courageous man....
Actually he wasn`t found guilty a second time. Prosecutors dropped the second trial. So now they longer had an excuse for the gag order and decided to do PR dammage instead. What was the evidence again?
I am pedo lover because I want proof before a man is convicted? I`d say it`s the royal commision that are the pedo lovers since they refused to investigate child abuse within Islam and the ABC.
@@reviewreviewer1 Why isn't a trial, where he's found guilty enough proof for you? If he was joe bloggs, you woudn't bat an eye. Are you hard for priests?
There are no victims, it's a big con and the only reason that the late great Cardinal was (falsely) convicted is because idiotic atheists like Minchin pofoundly influenced the minds of those who dcarried out the injustice.
I've been a Catholic my entire life and I thank you for this song and the Pope song! The church and it's victims cannot heal without the fullest and most honest disclosure of the hierarchy. I frequently wonder what Christ would think of them and how he will judge them...
Gilfoyle I know it's a bit late to say something like this, but why do you think like you do? The original commenter takes a view, which is fair, and instead of supporting an idea that I presume you would like you antagonise them.
I can confirm, having met Tim Minchin, that he is the most amazingly down to earth person you will meet. His undeniable talent, and sharing my opinions on these matters, would usually make someone up themselves but Minchin is truly an amazing fellow Aussie in my opinion. This song in particular - a perfect blend of humour, sincerity, and wit. I'm so proud to say I've met this man, let alone that I have hugged him and share a nationality. Seriously, he's a bloody genius.
"Perfect combination of humor, sincerity, and wit." Exactly. And if you listen to his other works and watch his talks, it's quite clear that this man is observing and thinking on a different level. Tim Minchin is a genius.
I was driving when they announced his death on the radio I almost crashed not because he died but the announcement waxed lyrical for minutes on what a fine upstanding citizen he was and such shining example of true Christian values 🤢 F@ck I hate revisionist history! Had to revisit to this masterpiece to restore my sanity.
My nation's history from last 60 years is one big lie, and the truth is slowly coming to surface now. People who are unvailing the truth are called revisionists and fascist by the same people whose parents were involved in murder and cover up of several thousant people. History by definition is revisionist because new material is being revealed. So I feel sorry for you because from your comment you revealed your intelectual and moral shallowness.
In a way it's great that it is, so no-one will forget what Pell did years ago when he supported one of our worst serial rapists in state history (and likely offended himself too, it now seems)

@@1234poppycat You are ridiculous. Pell being found not guilty by a court known for their very conservative "interpretation" of the law does not only not "prove" that he is innocent, but merely show that there was not enough evidence. It also does not mean the victims suffer any less. When you call this a lie, you are indirectly claiming that every victim of the Catholic Church is either lying or at least has less reason to speak out about their suffering - both of which are claims that show a deep lack of respect for humanity and should make you feel ashamed.
@@nooneofconsequence3600 1/ The court is not known for its conservative interpretation - Some of the justices are quite open in their support of LGBTQ+ 2/ As well as Law the Court was issuing judgement on a matter of fact George Pell did not have the opportunity to be on his own with the boys ..... 3/ There have been other cases where innocent men have served prison sentences for child abuse & had the verdict overturned. 4/ It is absurd to claim as you say "you are indirectly claiming that every victim of the Catholic Church is either lying" 5/ You should be ashamed that you would want this innocent good Holy man to languish in prison for a crime he clearly did not commit. You clearly have no shame or integrity.
@@1234poppycat I did not say that Pell should go to prison, did I? If so, I challenge you to show me where I did. This isn't about Pell. It's about the victims who had their lives ruined by the church. Not by Pell, or not only by Pell, whichever holds true, but by any member of the church. And even so, Pell may be innocent of a crime, but he is not, in any way, good or holy. He and every other member of the church who lacks the will and intent of clearing up those abuse cases is at least morally compromised.
I didn't hear about this case so I looked it up, and found a page from the Catholic League discussing "the war on Cardinal Pell," which speaks of the "vile" accusations. It asks why it took so long for victims to come forward, pointing out that they're not exactly beacons of virtue themselves. It's the language used by fucking abusers. I was abused when I was 12, a doctor molested me in hospital. I'm 31 now. Now I know what abuse is, at the time I just thought it was weird. I was a child, I didn't know what was going on. Even a while after when I'd heard he no longer worked there because he was caught watching child porn it didn't click with me. Now the guy's got an important position as head of a department in some hospital in England, and it's the word of a 12 year old victim 20 years later against a respect doctor. It's hardly likely to go my way if I pursued anything now :/ Why don't victims come forward? Because it often happens when they're too young to know how to speak up, or they're too scared, or they're not taken seriously, or they're threatened. I work with abuse survivors nowadays and there are so many reasons. When someone suggests a victim takes decades to come forward because now it's in the media and they can gain from it or something, as is implied, it makes me sick. Also, you don't have to be a paragon of virtue to be abused. Is it ok that Jesus was flogged and tortured before being killed? The church seems to think that's an important part of His story, and he was without sin, so yknow. I'd respect the church more if they just said "this is a trouble allegation, but we're sure Pell will be exonerated." But to suggest the victims are unreliable and not perfect so have no right to speak out against being abused is a low blow.
All this. Excellent point about virtue - why on earth should whether we are allowed to consent to one person be based on our actions with another person? We loved a certain person, or were attracted to them - why should taht give a rapist rights over us? I had one ex boyfriend expect sex on the basis that I was sleeping with my new boyfriend so why not him? And again I was assumed to be having sex age 16 with an older friend and mentor in his 60s who was a fabulous story teller and teh sort of person as a writer and a theatre buff I would interview like a shot yet certain unsavoury and unappealing men who had just got divorced saw me as potentially available? I am not property yet my spouse's best friend made a pass at me and others justified it as 'he thought you were single' (I've been married to his best friend for 15 years and it's not over yet) My spouse was abused in his twenties and I was 11-16 and then assaulted by much older adults again age 18 and 21. We both spoke to people at the time and were basically told to shut back up. I think the culture so conditions us to not believe men that it was far far easier for me to keep being an activist than it was for my spouse though our abusers were from the same social groups and contexts. We often forget that victims often do say something but are anyway accused of keeping silent even so - in my case I have been an advocate for many years yet people who haven't read my work might assume I am 'only coming forward now'. I can relate to what you say about 'thought it was weird' my spouse says , "I thought it was wrong' but a friend persuaded him taht it had been consensual (despite my spouse having been unconscious and unable to consent)
The thing is, no rapist is a one time offender. Rape/sexual assault is not a crime one commits in order to get something else. It is committed purely for the pleasure of doing it, not as means to an end. People who enjoy the crime itself never stop repeating it unless they are stopped. It's the same thing with arsonists, serial killers, etc. If our society wasn't so twisted and victims weren't blamed and shamed, I'm sure that if you were to accuse him, many others would join you. As it is, most of them wouldn't risk getting victimized again.
For those with no money and Power to run from false aligations.... Understandable...for the #2 or 3 person in the Gorram catholic church to run from them.... Guilty as my Dog when he poops on the floor and looks at me like "idk how this got here"
Yes, in the end thanks in no small part to people like Tim Minchin. Catholic Church always does the right thing eventually, except die off. Galileo had to wait for over 400 years for an apology so they're getting better :)
"In 2013, the new Pope, Pope Francis, said that about 2% of the priests were pedophiles. That would have been about 8,000. Yet 2 years ago, when David Knight interviewed adults with SNAP (a US-based network of survivors of clerical abuse) who had been childhood victims of pedophile priests, the Pope had done nothing about it even though he was in Philadelphia hypocritically promoting “World Meeting of Families”. Today, the 3rd highest ranking Catholic Cardinal George Pell was charged with sex abuse - multiple charges from multiple complainants." ruclips.net/video/i68y-b5f5HI/видео.html
I forget the quote exactly, but "sometimes *only* a fool (comedian) can tell the truth"...Shakespeare I like to think, but no matter, it seems quite accurate.
One of THE greatest lines ever in my opinion: I hear the tolling of a bell, and it has a Pellian Knell. I mean, no one ever, ever, uses knell in modern English but the fact he used it in context, it rhymed and it makes complete sense to the narrative is amazing in my opinion.

@Zebra M There's currently an Australian media blackout about it as the Victorian court issued a suppression order. So you won't hear about a certain high profile Australian being found guilty on all charges until after his second trial in February where he faces court on new additional charges. It's being reported on in international media, though.
As an unashamed Minchin fan who loves everything that he has ever put out from Inflatable You to White Wine in the Sun, I have to say that this one is my absolute favourite. The way that he just captures the thought process going through every Australian's head, as we learned all the details of this story is simply impeccable. Christian, non-Christan, Catholic, non-Catholic, none of that matters... "We have a right to know what you knew".

My favorite part of this entire song (which is amazing throughout) is the last line. Tim basically says "Yep, if you wanna come back and sue me, I'm fine with that. It's totally worth it. Come on." It's hard not to respect and admire that.

The fact that the absolute un-fathomable rage is just barely concealed behind a mask of humour and well written lyrics is phenomenal.
Totally agree.
Come and face the music, Georgy

Using that word (abuse) to describe a song, is disgusting in the context of actual abuse of boys by priests.

Sue zee- It’s tempting. But I think that would feel like gloating. And honestly, there’s no winners here. There’s still damaged and dead people.

He puts a white beard on and he goes to HELL.
Guys let's remember this is NO laughing matter!!!
I'm imagining how hurt and raw all these emotions on the victims (one ALREADY dead of an OD!!:((()
And to micheal "advocate" you just broke my heart yesterday as you were shouting abuse at him.
" So Long Criminal Pell " ..... that has a nice ring to it..... or should I say, " A Pellian Knell "
i grew up in Ballarat. i know David Ridsdale (shared a flat with him for a couple of years).
+1601tgc I hope you don't have to eat your words, Pell is under investigation for abuse, breaking news today.

Writing a song about an issue is not trial by media.
Sharon Mccaffrey last I checked this song did not put anyone in jail, so I fail to see how it's a trial.
@Sharon Mccaffrey His actual trial has happened now. Guilty as Pell.
Probably not a good idea to take the word of a convicted racist (Andrew Bolt). Birds of a feather, etc.
+oscargordon But they are happy to punish unwed mothers (just one example), for having CONSENTING sex out of wedlock.

Congratulations to his victims. May you feel a little safer and a little more validated.

What's his name?
I am not property yet my spouse's best friend made a pass at me and others justified it as 'he thought you were single' (I've been married to his best friend for 15 years and it's not over yet)
My spouse was abused in his twenties and I was 11-16 and then assaulted by much older adults again age 18 and 21.
I agree 100%.

Sharon Mccaffrey only one charge dropped. Still plenty more he’s on the hook for
Truth will indeed out, Sharon - are you a Catholic apologist?
"Truth exists wherever it is found." - Thomas Aquinas
Speaking rubbish does you no favours, Sharon - it just makes you a liar.
Today, the 3rd highest ranking Catholic Cardinal George Pell was charged with sex abuse - multiple charges from multiple complainants."

Ouch.
You can always trust a comedian to tell it like it is. Nice work.
I forget the quote exactly, but "sometimes *only* a fool (comedian) can tell the truth"...Shakespeare I like to think, but no matter, it seems quite accurate.
Sophia Gyger I
Never atoned for not reporting the abuse. Never received forgiveness. Hope you like fire and brimstone.
You most often hear it (if at all) as part of the phrase death-knell (as in something's doomed to end or fail).
LYRICS:
[Verse 1]
It's a lovely day in Ballarat
I'm kicking back, thinking of you
I hear that you've been poorly -
I am sorry that you're feeling blue
I know what it's like when you feel a little shitty
You just want to curl up and have an itty-bitty doona day
But a lot of people here really miss ya, Georgie
They really think you oughta just get on a plane
(Just get on a plane)
We all just want you to...
[Chorus 1]
Come home, Cardinal Pell
I know you're not feeling well
And being crook ain't much fun
Even so, we think you should come
Home, Cardinal Pell
Come down from your citadel
It's just the right thing to do
We have a right to know what you knew
[Verse 2]
Couldn't you see what was under your nose, Georgie
Back in '73 when you were living with Gerry?
Is it true that you knew but you chose to ignore
Or did you actively try to keep it buried?
And years later, when survivors, despite their shame and their fear
Stood up to tell their stories, you spent year after year
Working hard to protect the church's assets
I mean, with all due respect, dude, I think you're scum!
And I reckon you should...
[Chorus 2]
Come home, Cardinal Pell
(Cardinal Pell)
I know you're not feeling well
Perhaps you just need some sun
It's lovely here, you should come
Home, you pompous buffoon
(Pompous buffoon)
And I suggest do it soon
I hear the tolling of the bell
And it has a Pellian knell
[Bridge]
I want to be transparent here, George, I'm not the greatest fan of your religion
And I personally believe that those who cover up abuse should go to prison
But your ethical hypocrisy, your intellectual vacuity, and your arrogance don't bother me as much
As the fact that you have turned out to be such a goddamn coward
You're a coward, Georgie
(You're a coward, George)
Come and face the music, Georgie
(Face the music, George)
You owe it to the victims, Georgie
(You owe it, George)
Come and face the music, the music, hallelujah, hallelujah
If the Lord God omnipotent reigneth
He would take one look at you and say:
(One look at you and say)
[Chorus 3]
'Go home, Cardinal Pell
I've got a nice spot in hell
With your name on it and so
I suggest you toughen up and go
Home, Cardinal Pell
I'm sure they'll make you feel wel-
Come at the pub in Ballarat
They just want a beer and a chat
Come home, Cardinal Pell
(Cardinal Pell)
I know you're scared, Georgie-Poo
(Come home)
They have a right to know what you knew
Your time is running out to atone, Georgie
I think the Lord is calling ya home, Georgie
Perhaps he could forgive even you
If you just let them know what you knew
[Outro]
Oh, Cardinal Pell
My lawyer just rang me to tell
Me this song
Could get me in legal trouble
Oh well, Cardinal Pell
If you don't feel compelled
To come home by
A sense of moral duty
Perhaps you will come home and frickin' sue me
Cardinal Pell faced the mob Courage and integrity won through after the most severe humiliation Do you not know Cardinal Pell was found innocent by 7 - 0 ?? Tim looking a bit dim
@@1234poppycat While I don't believe in anything super natural, do you not find it remarkably coincidental that George Pell died almost immediately following you digging up old you tube comments and defending one of the most vile pieces of garbage to walk the Earth?
If I were a pious man I would consider this evidence God's judgement, just saying.
CONVICTED TODAY. There is justice!
Actually he was convicted in December, but there was a reporting ban to avoid influencing a second trial. Still brilliant news
lol, i just remembered this song, cuz its a sick tune tbh XD
Sorry, but justice will not be served until he loses an inevitable appeal to the Supreme Court AND is sentenced to jail time.
Once the decision is (hopefully) upheld he SHOULD then be held to account for perjuring himself before the Royal Commission

This is a historic day. Never has this song sounded happy to me, yet now it does.
what a wonderful day to play this song on repeat for no reason in particular 💖
My deepest respect for this song and its message.
Your fan forever.
Good timing. He is dead. See him in hell.
And now Pell is dead in Hell
Fuck me this song is so good and catchy, I've been singing it off and on in my head all year. Revisiting it from time to time. I love the au natural look Tim! And that "Pellian Knell" pun, pure genius!
Danger Russ Read this JUST as he was singing it, hehe. ^___^
fuck yourself dangerboy
Yep one of those catchy tunes that just sticks in your head.
Cardinal Pell is a survivor of the massive campaign to convict an innocent man... Cardinal Pell returns Is persecuted in the Media has crowds outside his jury trial intimidating witnesses and the Jury Faced down the injustice ... Then with great dignity eventually got Justice Amazing Good courageous man....
Its a beautiful day Tim Minchin 🙂
He's a national treasure
I hope Tim is having a celebratory drink tonight!
you bet
Ain't it lovely

This is really admirable. Even better than the Pope song. Tim releasing a song for the first time in a while just to stand up for what's right.
***** I'm curious what you think is his best musically. I really enjoy Thank You God, not sure if that's cheating as he has the Heritage Orchestra helping :')
Where are you Beth?
@Arthur Hallett-West I didn't even know he was accused of that, that isn't really what this song is about. Tim isn't singing "go to gaol, Cardinal Pell", he's just imploring him to come home and tell the courts what he knows
@Arthur Hallett-West He was accused of wrongdoing before the song and not acquitted until after to be fair. I didn't know he appeared by Skype but I'm not even sure that should be allowed
Show of hands, who has been blasting this all day today?

All year so far 😉☺
Someone needs to play this at St Mary's church in Sydney as apparently a memorial is going to be held there. Play it loud.
Cardinal Pell died cos he was an elderly man who had complications following an operation ... He admitted with the benefit of hindsight that he made mistakes 30 + years ago when nobody thought Child abuse was prevalent .. Of course after being wrongly convicted the highest court found him not guilty by 7 - 0 ..... He has reached his aim and is in heaven ... Mr Minchin has still not shown any dignity and not apologised!!
He got off on a technicality. He was guilty as hell, and a disgusting coward. The Catholic Church is a criminal organisation covering up abuse. Dusgusting.
Looks like we'll need a new verse or two
Oh yeah
@@nailsnailsgoodinbed Oh yes March 2020 Something with an apology sorry seems to be the hardest word...

"With all due respect dude, I think you're scum" love this quote
Ben Phillips I think the best lyric is "I hear a bell and it has a Pellian knell". Something about that is superbly poetic to me.
That is in fact exactly as much respect as Pell is due. I like this new perspective on "with all due respect" this gave me!
HA. Me too.
He he - any comment that starts with "with all due respect" has the hidden sub-text of "which is approximately zero"
My sentiments to his critics who rounded on him without any recourse to the facts.
you can truly see the anger in his face
Never been more relevant than today, boss. Just shared it again.
me too!
Brilliant for the whole of the country. Pell is got
He has been acquitted.
Tim Minchin. I love you.

Society.
Should be "we" but I agree
Or here... shit.
when you listen to this song, you realize that the ones who defend us and make our lives happy are the artists, singers, animators, actors, and the ones who are really supposed to do it do the exact oposite. thank you.
what i say to my customers - is there is very little difference between a tender, loving and idealistic musician and a very rare catholic priest who does not fuck children..
No you find the poorly educated who are looking for someone to tell them what to think ... Years of this nonsense only to find Cardinal Pell innocent by 7 - 0 No doubt he will go onto some other WOKE campaign for his sycophants to follow
Thankyou Tim,your song 🎵 was predictive..Now he faces the highest judge after spending Catholic money to protect the church and himself. His greatest legacy will be fiddling whilst children's souls were burnt
On this day 11th January 2023 I truly enjoyed this song.
Sick man!
What a blessed day today is. Praise the Lord.
Goodbye, Cardinal Pell. You won’t be missed.
8 years on, wish I could like it more than once
so many survivors, people tear you down when you stand up. thank you, Tim
Any chance they'll play this at his funeral)!
I play it for him now
Thanks Tim💖
"Won't Pell be coming home in a box

Guilty as Pell.
Removed from the Vatican by Pope Francis as of today 🙌🙌
Savage.
I was going for a Rot in Pell angle but yours is perfection 👌
The bell finally tolled for him (and it had a Pellian knell).
CONVICTED!
Given recent events - could you write a sequel Tim - Please.
Suggestion: jump onto iTunes and buy this to get it back into the charts.
Arthur Hallett-West yeah, it was a sad day for the victims and the jury of peers that believed Pell was a child sex abuser.
Watching this on 11 January 2023
Thank you so much for writing this song. It gave us a great deal of pleasure listening to this repeatedly today :)
Bloody brilliant! Expresses exactly my feelings. Tim you're an incredible talent, can you write another about his death today?
+1
My mother was saying after we heard the news that Tim Minchin needs to do another song.
26th Feb 2019:
Cardinal George Pell has been convicted of sexually abusing two choirboys in 1996, while he was archbishop of Melbourne.
Straight up rape of a minor.
What a fucking disgraceful human being.
Justice at last 7- 0 Not guilty. Look forward to the apologies from the accusers of Cardinal Pell ….. What a brave man returned from Rome to face the mob and the false accusations.
Tim Minchin - Perth legend always!!!
I love how Pell's QC bought this song up in court!
Really!?
... suggesting that perhaps it ultimately wasn't helpful to the prospects of getting him convicted.
George Pell has been called to answer for his alleged crimes in Australia. I hope someone plays this song at the courthouse!!
Tim got a lot of negative criticism that did not help his reputation at the time. Hypocrites. Self/righteous buffoons who want to sweep Pell’s faults under the rug. Good on you, Tim
My favorite part of this entire song (which is amazing throughout) is the last line.
Tim basically says "Yep, if you wanna come back and sue me, I'm fine with that. It's totally worth it. Come on."
It's hard not to respect and admire that.
So true👏 The last line floored me..🤭

I mean...if I had the money, I would've also seen it as 100% worthwhile.
I'm dead broke, but I wanted to be charitable. What did I do? Started a RUclips channel to take a challenge where I have to post a video per day for an entire year, performing and teaching magic, and pledged that any money raised will go to charity.
I don't have the disposable income to be able to help financially, but I can help raise awareness, and if doing that generates some extra money, I'm happy to donate that, too. We can all do _something._ 🤷♂️
My fav is that the true anger shows through Tims usual jolly expression. Especially when talking about the survivors.
