Cardinal Pell died this week. A lot of the victim survivors directly impacted by his decisions are having a complicated time processing as many are lauding him as a religious trailblazer of the nation as the former No. 3 figure at the Vatican. Very glad my state’s Premier confirmed there will be no state funeral for him. Solidarity with those who were left in his wake.

Sorry but what a complete moron commenting on a song by a moron. . Cardinal Pell was released after being imprisoned for a crime he did not commit. Overwhelming evidence of his innocence then we had an overwhelming result 7 - 0 recognising he is not guilty. Such a wonderful, courageous, good man to return to Australia to face the hostile media and the mob of his own volition .
Cardinal Pell died cos he was an elderly man who had complications following an operation ... He admitted with the benefit of hindsight that he made administrative mistakes 30 + years ago when nobody thought Child abuse was prevalent .. Of course after being wrongly convicted he has reached his aim and is in heaven ... Mr Minchin has still not shown any dignity and not apologised!!

This song was for the victims, all proceeds of this song went directly to them. Tim is a wonderful activist and humanitarian and also donates a portion of his earnings when he's touring to local charities.

There is a documentary about Pell's time as a priest in Ballarat - you may not be able to get it as it is from ABC Australia. George Pell was known to all the young boys in Ballarat, even the ones who weren't in the Catholic Church or abused by his fellow priest. In the public swimming pool they all knew to stay away from "Big George" because he would try and grope them under the water. So many other stories - at least one young man suicided. Pell is an arsehole as far as most Aussies are concerned.............and he wasn't too ill to run away to The Vatican.

I am a big Tim Minchin fan and a lover of psychology, so I came here to see what a therapist thought about this song. When I hear it, the power of it gives me chills.
I hadn't yet read anything that discussed the townspeople's alleged knowledge of Pell - that ls really disgusting and disturbing. Thank you so much for sharing this info! I'm not in Australia, but I'm still going to try to find that documentary online. Thanks again.

It's beautiful music, and has some gorgeously clever rhymes. _Bell_ is rhymed not with _Pell_ but with _Pellian knell_ which I love. Also, Tim skirts the temptation to use pure vulgar abuse, while still making his feelings clear. He's also able to poke fun without undercutting the seriousness of the message.
Kate Miller-Heidke has a live cover of this song, in which the role of God is played by a man in a white beard and gold hot pants. Seems strangely appropriate.

He and the Australian rapper Briggs did one for covid quarantine "Housefyre" and blamed their prime minister for his behavior.
Tim received an honorary doctorate and his speech for that is quite popular. "9 Life Lessons".

Great work on these! Tim is such a beautiful human being.
As for a suggestion for some very good music that has a lot of thought put into its construction, I highly suggest the band Nightwish. It is symphonic metal, but has a very wide range or what it incorporates, especially with its later stuff. If you haven't heard their stuff before, I feel a good intro would be Ghost Love Score (live at Wacken). If you enjoy it, there is a lot of their content to consume. If you do so, you'll likely see Gabriel come by in the comments and provide you with a fantastic list of a suggested order to work through so you don't start off with the most heavy stuff and miss a lot. Regardless, you seem like a great person and I wish you the best!

Thanks to the overwhelming evidence found by the Australian Royal Commission in 2020 and the evidence of Cardinal Pell's testimony.
Australian now has The Australian National Redress Scheme, to help people who have experienced institutional child sexual abuse.
All religions must contribute or lose their tax-exempt status.

Clearly, you're aiming to muddy the waters by deliberately conflating two distinct matters. Poor form. This song is unrelated to that court case. Also, anyone with basic legal literacy knows a quashed conviction isn't a declaration of innocence.
Your disingenuous comment speaks volumes about your intent and integrity.

    • @thewonkyembouchure
      @thewonkyembouchure 9 месяцев назад

@@1234poppycatOh dear, if only you had attended to the lyrics, you would have realised that your so-called 'facts' are built on the most unstable foundations!
How deliciously embarrassing for you that these first two strikingly clear clues scream out the song's underlying intent:
'Couldn't you see what was under your nose, Georgie
Back in '73 when you were living with Gerry?
Is it true that you knew but you chose to ignore
Or did you actively try to keep it buried?'
Which, of course, speaks to this one:
'Even so, we think you should come
      Home, Cardinal Pell
      Come down from your citadel
It's just the right thing to do
We have a right to know what you knew'
Hmm, a call to return to Australia to answer questions relating to events in 1973, not those in 1996 and 1997 as per the trial. Presto, that refutes your claim!
And one more for good measure, which sets out the grounds for imprisonment:
'I want to be transparent here, George, I'm not the greatest fan of your religion
And I personally believe that those who cover up abuse should go to prison'
If you're intent on muddying the waters, do try to be at least slightly competent in executing your failures. So much for your self-satisfied proclamation of superior 'logic'!
