Mam and sir, may i am inform you that you have a CLEVELAND engine! That is a boss of an engine right there. You do well to keep that car and everything on it like it was factory. It could be a gold mine one day. Oh wait, 1973 mach 1 mustang, it is a goldmine! Congratulations on your find. Happy motoring. Cragar daisy wheels up front with slot mags on the rear, really cool car.
Thank you very much. We are super excited to have it. I don’t think we will venture too far from an original style restoration on this one. I am looking forward to the finished product. Thanks for your excitement, it’s contagious!
Some people hate on the 71-73 Ponies, but I’ve loved the 73 Mustang ever since I saw Gone in 60 Seconds. I’m glad the algorithm chose to recommend this video. You’ve earned a subscriber, can’t wait to see where this goes. Creating content is hard, I tried making a video of installing a LS in my 67 C10 & the video want even worth editing. My hats off to the people that can. Y’all make it look easy & I can see your channel growing. Best of luck to y’all!
Yeah, Eleanor was a pretty sweet ride! I was born and raise a Chevy guy, but it seems like all I have any more are Fords. I am up for working on anything that is available and a decent deal. I appreciate you watching our videos. I have wanted to make videos for a long time, but have been nervous actually doing it. Julie has been encouraging me to go for it for a while now and I am glad we have. We have made some really bad stuff. Like you said, we have recorded some stuff that wasn't even worth editing. We still have a long way to go, but with practice I feel like the videos are getting better.
really like your vid, shows what a weekend garage couple can do, and that mustang find! good stuff! did Not see you change out oil and filter, so assuming you did it, maybe with some experience you will be able to dump trans fluid and filter and refill/change, plus check your linkage/shifter make sure is operating properly and if all else fails, no movement, rent a uhaul trailer and haul it back home and work on it from there, keep us informed of what goes on with it as well as you all.
Other than it needing a fuel filter before and after the fuel pump, you guys killed it! Very detailed and methodical. And I'm looking forward to seeing the Cougar Video.
Thanks for the encouragement! I am excited about the Cougar too. Hopefully we can start putting out some steady content this fall on both cars. We appreciate you watching.
Good entertaining and informative video. I am subscribing to your channel to support and feed your cats. Yeah car parts are expensive and I want to see you finish this cool Mustang and these other cars waiting for some love. Keep posting content.
I just googled up a gold one, and man that color scheme sure is a good looking combination. I told Julie I would leave it up to her on what color she wants to paint it. I will definitely show her a picture of the gold option to consider.
We want to take a shot at painting this one ourselves, and I would love to paint some black stripes on it, but I haven't got a clue where to start with laying them out. I have a lot of learning to do between now when she is ready to paint.
Those cats are Julie's babies for sure. The shop location is about a mile down the road from our house, so every evening she goes and locks the cats up in the shop so the coyotes or owls won't get them and every morning she lets them out to roam. They are pretty spoiled, be we love em!
Thanks Jordan. I am not sure how successful it was from the transmission's perspective, but that will give us a reason to rebuild the transmission in a future episode.
Thanks for watching. I hope to start putting out steady content on the car and some other projects we have starting in September. This summer has been super busy for us and we haven't done a thing to the car since the last video.
Nice looking project there, look foreward to keeping an eye on this channel now considering I love this body style of mustang. I see a cleaning/detailing episode could be in your near future? haha
Yeah, I am looking forward to the end result. I am sure it will take us much longer than we would like it to, but I can't wait to see how she turns out.
Thanks! I have had several people suggest to change the fluid and filter. I will give that a try. Hopefully it fixes her right up. Thanks for watching and subscribing!
Thanks! Since we were outdoors it never even entered our minds that breathing that nasty stuff could be bad, but I can totally see it now. Thank you for pointing that out. We will for sure be wearing masks when it comes time to tear out that rat infested interior.
We do, but the shop is a disaster right now because I am building Julie a chicken coop inside of it. The chicken coop is almost done, so as soon as we can drag the chicken coop out we plan to put cars in there so we can start making some consistent videos.
I bet your mustang was a lot of fun to drive. I have always heard of the infamous 351 Cleveland, but this is the first one I have ever been around. I can't wait until she is road worthy so we can see how fast this one is!
That's awesome! I have travelled that Vegas to Reno stretch a few times and I can see where you could open her up on those long straight stretches, but 150 mph would scare the shorts off of me. It sounds like a really cool car. Julie is really drawn toward the red and black combo, so I have a feeling that is where we are headed with this one.
to use the spark tester one end goes in the wire and the other end plugs onto the plug ,then you let go before you hit the button this way wife lives everyone is happy
Man, we tried that, but we couldn’t get the tester to fit on a spark plug because the boot on the tester is a 90 degree boot and the exhaust manifolds restrict that area so much that we needed a straight boot to get back to the plug instead of the 90. I honestly didn’t realize she was touching the metal connection when I hit the button, but it sure made for some good video footage!
The key was on the whole time, but we noticed after the first start that one of the spark plug wires wasn’t connected good, so it was only firing on 7 cylinders for part of the video.
@@DaPenceman I know it's not a Cleveland has more rounded value cover's that's a it's a modified im not hating on it I've just had both engines they were both fine engines
It might be a 400m. I haven’t checked the casting numbers on the block, but I need to now, cause you have me curious about it.
I just checked out your channel and had to subscribe as soon as I saw the 68 coupe to fastback transition that you are working on. It sounds mean! What engine does it have? I totally recommend teaming up with your wife, we have had a lot of fun working together on this one.
@FlatlineGarage I run a 1970 2V 2 bolt Cleveland block with Australian 302 2V quench chamber heads. 2.190 intake valves and 1.710 exhaust. It's 11to1 compression, and I run 93 octane fuel in it.
@FlatlineGarage Have you heard of NoNameNationals? It's an AHRA event for content creators with at least 500 subscribers. I will be there with the Fastback this September 19-21 at Sikeston, MO.
I haven't heard of that, but will check it out. We don't have 500 subscribers yet, but should reach that goal soon. Even if we don't have the car road worthy by then it would be fun to go and check out everyone's vehicles. Thanks for mentioning it.
It rolled on and off the trailer just fine, so I don’t think the brakes are stuck. We have had a lot of suggestions to change the transmission fluid and filter, so we may give that a shot before tearing it down for a rebuild.
I don't think we showed ourselves checking it in the video, but it does have water in it. That reminds me though, if we don't have the engined pulled by winter I need to make sure it has good antifreeze in it.
That’s interesting that you are having the same issue with the same car. We haven’t figured it out yet, but haven’t had much time to look at it since we posted the last video. This summer has been super busy for us, so unfortunately we probably won’t get to pick up work on the car again until August. When we do I plan on videoing the whole process to post on RUclips, so when we figure out the key issue we will be sure to post it. Are you making any videos on your rebuild? If so, I would love to follow along.

I will have to get the casting numbers off of the block and check it out, but unfortunately I don't think it is the Boss block. The heads have the 4V stamp on them but the intake is steel and the casting number on the intake shows it to be from a regular 351C.
The auction company had it listed as a 302 car, so I didn't take a good look at the engine before I bid, I just took their word for it. I was happily surprised when I got it home and saw it had a 351C.
I subscribed. In the middle of a 71 Mach1 build myself. Will be taking it on Power Tour in June. I'm about 20 minutes into your video. Give me a follow and ill be glad to answer any questions i can. Built my first Mach1 in 1983. Looking forward to more videos
I'm all subbed up on your channel. I'm not gonna lie, I had to listen to some of your music before I ever clicked on the car videos. I played in a bluegrass band back in my teenage years, so your music excites me as much as your pony does! Your Mach 1 is coming along nicely too, I can't wait to hear her run. I would love to go on the Hot Rod Power Tour one of these years. Maybe we will have our Mustang ready to go by next June.
@@FlatlineGarage I love some BG music. Not much down here in south Alabama. Te band I played with for years is out of north GA, around the Blue Ridge area. I had one more question for you. After you got it cranked, did you check the transmission fluid on the stick again? It sounded a lot like it was low on fluid. FMX or C6?
The door sticker says the car originally had a 302 with a C4 transmission. I am not sure if the transmission was swapped when the 351C was dropped in or if it will has a C4. I put all of the transmission fluid I had at the time in it and it was still low, so I do think most of our issues are fluid related. I am thinking this weekend I might make a video changing the transmission fluid and filter to see if that will fix her up.
@@FlatlineGarage before you change it, add to the full mark with it running. A lot of people will tell you not to change the fluid and filter on an old transmission, unless you know it's been serviced regularly. I would get it to idle below 1K RPM before you drop it in gear too. Revving it as high as you did may have done a lot of damage that could have been resolved with fluid. Good luck with it and holler if I can help
Man, I bet that was a pretty color combo. Don't you hate the thought of letting them go? Back in my teenage years I had a 1967 Chevy truck and a 3rd Gen Camaro that I wish I had back.
Thanks Eric. We are past due for putting out another video, we just have too many irons in the first right now. Hopefully we can get more videos out soon.
Yeah, that gas was nasty. I’m not really sure how long the car has been sitting, but it must have been sitting for along time. The grandson of the man who owned it told me they hauled it from Arizona to Oklahoma 10 or 12 years ago, but the license plate is from North Carolina. I’m not sure how long it was in Arizona before it came here. The tags on the plate are too faded to read the year it was last tagged. I really wish I knew more about the history of the car and all of its travels.
You Can Also See IMMEDIATELY That ENGINE Is DEFINITELY NOT A Little " 302 " ... But A " Medium Block " Cleveland Style 351 ... JUST By The Valve Covers Alone ... AND .. By Its WIDTH From Across The Intake Manifold And Valve Cover To Valve Cover Width. And ALSO , OBVIOUSLY ... WHere The Thermostat Housing / Inlet is Going.
Back in the late 1980's we used b&m trick shift if I remember right. On a transmission that would not move . Ran one bottle in transmission after letting it flush through trans . It worked really well. After about 20 miles it quit working . So we pulled out filter and replaced it. Trans was working like new. To bad motor chucked a rod around 6000 rpm. Good luck
We have been unhooking the power to the coil to shut the car off, but I didn’t realize that leaving the power wire hooked up would burn up the coil. Thanks for the advice!
Yeah, we need to look into the brakes a bit more. It rolled off the trailer just fine, so I didn't think I had one locked up, but maybe we do. Good point on the idle speed to, I agree that we should adjust it down. Thanks for watching and giving us some feedback.
I hear ya! Unfortunately we have much more passion than money, so I am hoping we can make some content of the cheaper end of things while we save up to tackle some of the more expensive work down the road.
Yeah, I think you are right, I need to get the rpm adjusted down on it. She has an automatic in her instead of a manual. I am hoping it is just a fluid issue with the transmission, but it may need to be rebuilt.
Dude you were going to get your wife burned severely if you keep letting her pour gas down that carburetor. While you’re cranking it bad news buddy I’ve seen it before.
Man that wouldn’t have been good. She never would have let me live that down if that would have happened. Thanks for pointing that out, I will remember it in the future.

I’m not sure how long it was in Arizona before it came here. The tags on the plate are too faded to read the year it was last tagged. I really wish I knew more about the history of the car and all of its travels.
i have 1970 mustang mack 1 with 351 c
But if the car has points it won't have the box on the fender
Oil those hood hinges before you bend the hood and ruin it.
You and your girl makea great team
Yes Sir! Oiling the hood hinges was one of the first things we did. It would be a bad day to ruin a hood like that.
Thanks Craig! We sure have had fun finding a project that we can work on as a team.

Change out filter in transmission
I’m gonna give that a try. Several people have thought that might fix our problem. I hope it works. Thanks for the advice.
Good luck
That’s cool. I’ve never heard of trick shift, but it looks like it is still available today, so it must be good stuff.
If you don't unhook the wire from the coil to battery when the car ain't running you will burn the coil up
We have been unhooking the power to the coil to shut the car off, but I didn’t realize that leaving the power wire hooked up would burn up the coil. Thanks for the advice!
Your brakes are basically locked down. Please idle the carb down, free up the brakes before you do ruin the transmission.
Yeah, we need to look into the brakes a bit more. It rolled off the trailer just fine, so I didn't think I had one locked up, but maybe we do. Good point on the idle speed to, I agree that we should adjust it down. Thanks for watching and giving us some feedback.
Hope you guys got money it's going to be expensive
I hear ya! Unfortunately we have much more passion than money, so I am hoping we can make some content of the cheaper end of things while we save up to tackle some of the more expensive work down the road.
Tell the wife to take a seat, and her laugh is ridiculous!
Un mach1 73 avec les srtipes du 72
Rpm is too high . If manuasl brake clutch . Not brake . Brake clutch , need adjusting
Yeah, I think you are right, I need to get the rpm adjusted down on it. She has an automatic in her instead of a manual. I am hoping it is just a fluid issue with the transmission, but it may need to be rebuilt.
Time and Money
Put more fluid in trans
Wear goggles
Yeah, looking back on it now we should have had a little more protection against all of that rat matter we were dealing with.
