Join us as we take a shot at starting and driving Julie's Mach 1 Mustang after it has been parked in a pasture for years! The license plate tags are too faded to read, but we believe it has been sitting for at least 15 years, possible more!

Love the car and cats❤
Good entertaining and informative video. I am subscribing to your channel to support and feed your cats. Yeah car parts are expensive and I want to see you finish this cool Mustang and these other cars waiting for some love. Keep posting content.
🍻 to the dads who somehow kept us alive into our 40s and beyond!!
Brave man, teaching woman. Dangerous effort.
Hi great find! Did you guys ever get that car going? Or make a follow up video? Thanks Alex
Im watching this out of a dream to have my own 73 mustang and I have to ask how do find these gems?? Are they all stashed away in barns?
mustang yeah i suscribed for that
Tell the wife to take a seat, and her laugh is ridiculous!
really like your vid, shows what a weekend garage couple can do, and that mustang find! good stuff! did Not see you change out oil and filter, so assuming you did it, maybe with some experience you will be able to dump trans fluid and filter and refill/change, plus check your linkage/shifter make sure is operating properly and if all else fails, no movement, rent a uhaul trailer and haul it back home and work on it from there, keep us informed of what goes on with it as well as you all.
i have 1970 mustang mack 1 with 351 c
Not a bad price at $4750. Has the title been sorted out?
Time and Money
You Can Also See IMMEDIATELY That ENGINE Is DEFINITELY NOT A Little " 302 " ... But A " Medium Block " Cleveland Style 351 ... JUST By The Valve Covers Alone ... AND .. By Its WIDTH From Across The Intake Manifold And Valve Cover To Valve Cover Width. And ALSO , OBVIOUSLY ... WHere The Thermostat Housing / Inlet is Going.

Are you still working on this build ?
This summer has been unusually busy for us. We have been on the road for work and family issues more than we have been home. We haven't touched the car since we filmed this video, but I hope to get going on it again soon, and look to have more content out in September.
Hope things start going better for you two .
currently working on fixing my 73 mustang
Are you filming any content on your build? I would love to watch it and follow along if you are!
would love to see more content
Thanks for watching. I hope to start putting out steady content on the car and some other projects we have starting in September. This summer has been super busy for us and we haven't done a thing to the car since the last video.
Did you check the radiator?
I don't think we showed ourselves checking it in the video, but it does have water in it. That reminds me though, if we don't have the engined pulled by winter I need to make sure it has good antifreeze in it.
Disconnect negative First and negative last, small post is positive
Thanks for reminding me. I always struggle to remember which one you are supposed to pull first.
'73 Mustang Mach1? Probably a fastback with '71-'72 Mach1 stripes
I didn't think about that, but you may be right. Either way, I am looking forward to working on her.
Other than it needing a fuel filter before and after the fuel pump, you guys killed it! Very detailed and methodical. And I'm looking forward to seeing the Cougar Video.
Thanks for the encouragement! I am excited about the Cougar too. Hopefully we can start putting out some steady content this fall on both cars. We appreciate you watching.
Love the metal music
Thanks! I was pretty happy to find that track on the RUclips playlist. I appreciate you watching and hope to get more content out soon.
The cats the star
Those cats are spoiled for sure!
Wear goggles
Yeah, looking back on it now we should have had a little more protection against all of that rat matter we were dealing with.
Hey guys did you guys ever fight out the key issue I have the same car I'm bringing back my self and I'm having key issues
That’s interesting that you are having the same issue with the same car. We haven’t figured it out yet, but haven’t had much time to look at it since we posted the last video. This summer has been super busy for us, so unfortunately we probably won’t get to pick up work on the car again until August. When we do I plan on videoing the whole process to post on RUclips, so when we figure out the key issue we will be sure to post it. Are you making any videos on your rebuild? If so, I would love to follow along.
I love the 71-73 Mustangs
I do too! Aren’t they such cool rides? Thank for watching.
check the starter
Good job producing this! I enjoyed you straight forward approach and walking through the steps...and your sense of humor!
Thanks Greg, that means a lot to us. Julie and I both appreciate you taking the time to watch.
What an awesome car 🚗, good luck with everything and i just subscribed so i will be looking forward to more on this ride....
Thanks man, I appreciate that. We are way past due for putting out another video, so hopefully we can get one out soon. Thanks for watching.
Hi and welcome to RUclips I would like to see more of your restoration and startup projects let's be friends sometime
Thanks Eric. We are past due for putting out another video, we just have too many irons in the first right now. Hopefully we can get more videos out soon.
Liked and subscribed! 😁
Thanks for watching, liking, and subscribing, we really do appreciate it.
Your brakes are basically locked down. Please idle the carb down, free up the brakes before you do ruin the transmission.
Yeah, we need to look into the brakes a bit more. It rolled off the trailer just fine, so I didn't think I had one locked up, but maybe we do. Good point on the idle speed to, I agree that we should adjust it down. Thanks for watching and giving us some feedback.
Rpm is too high . If manuasl brake clutch . Not brake . Brake clutch , need adjusting
Yeah, I think you are right, I need to get the rpm adjusted down on it. She has an automatic in her instead of a manual. I am hoping it is just a fluid issue with the transmission, but it may need to be rebuilt.
There is a disease called Hanta virus that is spread in rodent feces and urine. It can cause lung infection if you inhale it. I wouldn't disturb any of the interior of that car without a proper respirator, not just a dust mask.
I didn't know about the Hanta virus, that stuff sounds nasty. One website I looked at said it has a mortality rate of 38%! I appreciate the heads up, we will be using respirators for sure when we clean out the interior.
Nice car
Thanks, I appreciate that. We are pretty excited about it.
I subscribed. In the middle of a 71 Mach1 build myself. Will be taking it on Power Tour in June. I'm about 20 minutes into your video. Give me a follow and ill be glad to answer any questions i can. Built my first Mach1 in 1983. Looking forward to more videos
I'm all subbed up on your channel. I'm not gonna lie, I had to listen to some of your music before I ever clicked on the car videos. I played in a bluegrass band back in my teenage years, so your music excites me as much as your pony does! Your Mach 1 is coming along nicely too, I can't wait to hear her run. I would love to go on the Hot Rod Power Tour one of these years. Maybe we will have our Mustang ready to go by next June.
@@FlatlineGarage I love some BG music. Not much down here in south Alabama. Te band I played with for years is out of north GA, around the Blue Ridge area. I had one more question for you. After you got it cranked, did you check the transmission fluid on the stick again? It sounded a lot like it was low on fluid. FMX or C6?
The door sticker says the car originally had a 302 with a C4 transmission. I am not sure if the transmission was swapped when the 351C was dropped in or if it will has a C4. I put all of the transmission fluid I had at the time in it and it was still low, so I do think most of our issues are fluid related. I am thinking this weekend I might make a video changing the transmission fluid and filter to see if that will fix her up.
@@FlatlineGarage before you change it, add to the full mark with it running. A lot of people will tell you not to change the fluid and filter on an old transmission, unless you know it's been serviced regularly. I would get it to idle below 1K RPM before you drop it in gear too. Revving it as high as you did may have done a lot of damage that could have been resolved with fluid. Good luck with it and holler if I can help
One spark or backfire through the carb is gonna burn it to the ground! Hope ya have a serious fire extinguisher close by! 😮
Man, that would be a bad way to end the video!
I hope you guys have a garage to work in or atleast covered parking available
We do, but the shop is a disaster right now because I am building Julie a chicken coop inside of it. The chicken coop is almost done, so as soon as we can drag the chicken coop out we plan to put cars in there so we can start making some consistent videos.
What are guy are stupid
I don't know if that's a Cleveland or a modified 351
Or 400m
@@DaPenceman I know it's not a Cleveland has more rounded value cover's that's a it's a modified im not hating on it I've just had both engines they were both fine engines
It might be a 400m. I just assumed it was a Cleveland, but I think the thermostat for both the Cleveland and the Modified are in the block instead of the intake, so it could be either, judging off of that. I haven’t checked the casting numbers on the block, but I need to now, cause you have me curious about it.
to use the spark tester one end goes in the wire and the other end plugs onto the plug ,then you let go before you hit the button this way wife lives everyone is happy
Man, we tried that, but we couldn’t get the tester to fit on a spark plug because the boot on the tester is a 90 degree boot and the exhaust manifolds restrict that area so much that we needed a straight boot to get back to the plug instead of the 90. I honestly didn’t realize she was touching the metal connection when I hit the button, but it sure made for some good video footage!
next time go to the distributor side of the wire and try it there@@FlatlineGarage
its compression, fuel and fire to make one run
it is a good sign you know the pipe wrench trick
Yeah, you never know when a good old pipe wrench might come in handy.
yes a spanner wrench of any type is worth its weight in gold @@FlatlineGarage
Hope you guys got money it's going to be expensive
I hear ya! Unfortunately we have much more passion than money, so I am hoping we can make some content of the cheaper end of things while we save up to tackle some of the more expensive work down the road.
I just subbed, I think I might have to get my wife in on the next startup.😊
I just checked out your channel and had to subscribe as soon as I saw the 68 coupe to fastback transition that you are working on. It sounds mean! What engine does it have? I totally recommend teaming up with your wife, we have had a lot of fun working together on this one.
@FlatlineGarage I run a 1970 2V 2 bolt Cleveland block with Australian 302 2V quench chamber heads. 2.190 intake valves and 1.710 exhaust. It's 11to1 compression, and I run 93 octane fuel in it.
Yeah, that is super cool. Hopefully we cross paths one of these days on a power tour or something, cause I would love to see it in person.
@FlatlineGarage Have you heard of NoNameNationals? It's an AHRA event for content creators with at least 500 subscribers. I will be there with the Fastback this September 19-21 at Sikeston, MO.
I haven't heard of that, but will check it out. We don't have 500 subscribers yet, but should reach that goal soon. Even if we don't have the car road worthy by then it would be fun to go and check out everyone's vehicles. Thanks for mentioning it.
I had a 1971 MACH 1. 351 Clevland. Dule Point Mallory. Not quick but very Fast!!
I bet your mustang was a lot of fun to drive. I have always heard of the infamous 351 Cleveland, but this is the first one I have ever been around. I can't wait until she is road worthy so we can see how fast this one is!
@@FlatlineGarage I did 150 MPH the car is built for 5 people. I had 6 people. in Death Valley. in the 80s!!
@@FlatlineGarage it was Red. sat low with 70s in the front 60 in the back. you sat low with a dash like a jet. I tore it up I ruined it!! I was young!
That's awesome! I have travelled that Vegas to Reno stretch a few times and I can see where you could open her up on those long straight stretches, but 150 mph would scare the shorts off of me. It sounds like a really cool car. Julie is really drawn toward the red and black combo, so I have a feeling that is where we are headed with this one.
Cool mustang
Thanks! We are super excited to see how she turns out. Thanks for watching!
Also a good idea to disconnect the fuel line at the pump.so you don't pull all that bad gas up the the carb...good video keep it up and good luck 👍
Yeah, that is a great point! It would be a bad day to mess up a carb by running a bunch of trash up into it. Thanks for watching!
Mam and sir, may i am inform you that you have a CLEVELAND engine! That is a boss of an engine right there. You do well to keep that car and everything on it like it was factory. It could be a gold mine one day. Oh wait, 1973 mach 1 mustang, it is a goldmine! Congratulations on your find. Happy motoring. Cragar daisy wheels up front with slot mags on the rear, really cool car.
Thank you very much. We are super excited to have it. I don’t think we will venture too far from an original style restoration on this one. I am looking forward to the finished product. Thanks for your excitement, it’s contagious!
Are the brakes stuck on it please recheck the fluid with car running and warmed up your going to wreck the trans probably already have
It rolled on and off the trailer just fine, so I don’t think the brakes are stuck. We have had a lot of suggestions to change the transmission fluid and filter, so we may give that a shot before tearing it down for a rebuild.
