Certainly borrowing from and honoring Doc, but this is as technically perfect and good as flatpicking on a flattop gets. This should have millions of views. Everything else was extremely good too. Simply Amazing.
Yep...its so awesome that someone as young and talented as Billy is here to fill the Docs big shoes and will be around for many years to come, God willing.
This video and tune is sentimental to me. Its the second video I saw of Billy (after dust in a baggie, obviously), and I this is where I realized I found a Gem. Its been an amazing past 4 years.
How does he imitate Docs playing style *AND* vocals so well?!! I thought it was just a fluke when he did Bill Monroe's 'Ruby' and sounded almost identical to old Bill. Now I know it was intentional! Man this kid is amazing!😮😄👍👍
You make Doc proud. I heard Doc do this live at the Boarding House in SF. Also with Doc and Earl Scruggs at the Hardly Strictly Bluegrass Festival. in SF.
Juxtaposing "Black Mountain Rag" ad the tail of the song really kicked my ass - Billy Strings and his band can be among the heirs of unlucky Watson family
Billy. please play more of your recording songs I never hear you play them , for ex. Everything s the same and must be seven and the prisionn song u play. U go B S!!!
Billy Strings never disappoints.
Billy is as good as it gets. Love his base runs. Banjo player second to none.

I cried the day that Doc died - love to hear Billy these tunes...

We saw him a couple of nights ago in concert and he is simply a phenomenal talent. And hearing him perform Doc's version of Shady Grove was awesome!

Check out the original by Frank Hutchison. Mean picker in his own right.
Personally, I hear a new Glen Campbell in the works. These guys are great, all of them.
