Track mode doesn’t apply in a straight line. It only applies the bias when Turing the steering wheel. Track mode does cool the battery and motors which isn’t necessarily good for drag racing. Bottom line, don’t use track mode for drag racing.

  • @LearningFast

When tracks put the prep down but it gets wet it can become like glass. If water from the water box gets on the start line prep or even if the relative humidity increases it can make the track extremely slick. I have never experienced the wheel-spin you were seeing in this video. That is very unusual with the Model 3 Performance. Mine always just hooks and goes. The start line must have become damp. If people leave their air conditioning on then the condensation can drip onto the start line. They kick people out who leave their A/C on here in NC because it is such a big deal.

    • @RichOnTrack

Another great video. Really exciting races. Glad to see you doing 1/4 mile races now. However, I don’t think your assumptions on what Track Mode was doing are correct. Yes your motor was getting warm and that can affect performance. However, the slick Track was what was affecting your 60’ times and that was slowing you down. Shifting the bias in Track Mode probably helped you the most. However, it was absolutely clear from your trap speeds that Track Mode was killing your top end. That is what a cooler battery does. It destroys your top end power. Now in your case traction was so bad that getting a good 60’ time was more beneficial than having the top end power. Track mode was the proper thing on that particular night but not really for the reasons you think it was. I really wouldn’t use Track Mode on a 1/4 mile Track that has good traction. You really are crippling the power curve especially once you get passed 90 mph. I was running 117.67 mph in the 1/4 mile when I was 100% stock by preheating the battery. Now I am running closer to 120.0 mph with weight reductions. The biggest issue for you is that you really don’t know what temperatures your battery is at. You are just guessing. Even the Track Mode doesn’t give you actual temps. It just gives you colors that aren’t precise at all. You need to see the numeric values for temperatures and the Max Discharge value with something like the S3XY buttons. Just seeing the max discharge value alone is enough to tell you how optimized the car is. Keep up the great work but I really think Track Mode hurt you in some of those races especially in your trap speed. You should have been running low 11.5s if not 11.4s in those first few races.

Even the interior is just as dull and boring. Luxury sports cars offer carbon fiber, really good quality buttons that feel good to click, higher grade materials, carbon bucket racing seats, HUD, sport gauge clusters, and race like steering wheels that have a very nice materials and feel great. Teslas don't feel like ur in a sports car or a luxury car. It's just blah. People say it's a tech car but BMW has a HUD,360 cam, ventilated seats, heated steering wheel, and apple carplay. You need a way to monitor your temps, I use the S3XY buttons and app.
When you preheat the battery, it takes a while for that heat to transfer to the battery. You’re likely just making the motors hot and not changing the battery temp at all.
Ideal temp for the battery is around 130F.
I don’t use track mode at all for drags, it cools the battery.

There is no drive shaft connecting the motors, the front motor drives the front wheels and the rear motor drives the rear wheels. So when you made the bias 30% front, and 70% rear, I would have thought you were restricting the amount of power the front motor could make, which would have made the car slower. Does anyone know any different, does in fact the front motor still make all of its power in this mode?

I thought it was a defect. Come to find out, it is a design flaw- the explanation Tesla gave me was that they put the temp sensor on the bottom of the motor which makes it susceptible to external temps. This didn't fly with me.
