    For your coffee, rather than a coffee maker...you should really look at getting a stainless steel insulated french press. Makes MUCH better coffee, usually quicker, depending on the stove you use to boil water, and you'll be toting around a lot less stuff. Other than that, fantastic upgrades!

    • @kevsgonefishing
      @kevsgonefishing 4 года назад

      I second the French press, I use one everyday. Just boil the water and a few mins later boom coffee!

      @@kevsgonefishing i know this is 4 years later, but I just foud the video. I think he wants his coffee faster then staring a fire to boil water for a french press vs 30 seconds for a kureg. Maybe im wrong.

    Love your vids Greg you should invest in a camper shell put a rack on top for the kayak and sleep really good inside the shell

  • @ronaldmcdonald3965

    A few ideas: 1) old fashion candle lantern to add heat to you enclosed cab. I slept in my camper shell at Brannan State Park a few weeks a ago with the temperature going down to 31 degrees f. Candle does not pose the risk of CO2 that a propane heater does 2) Coffee makers draw a lot of electricity. Have you considered a propane stove that fits on a standard propane canister - get both at Walmart. It is small and durable. Plus it will boil water faster. You can get smaller/more expensive versions at REI 3) I started camping out in my little camper shell and just put in a Coleman Deluxe cot. You can't fit it in your truck now, but if you put a camper shell on the back, and put you big/heavy kayak on a trailer, you might sleep better. I have a low end kayak/light weight kayak optimized for portability rather than functionality on top of my camper shell now.

    Just a thought.....put the titan up high again, upgrade your truck bed cover and put all your gear in the back while sleeping to give you more room. Then get the air bedz truck seat extender for the back seat. Might make your sleeping arrangement way more comfortable. Love the upgrades you’ve already done! I’m trying to figure out the same thing with my Silverado. Enjoy!!

    Great mods there Greg. this will make life easier and more comfortable. you have room at the back of the truck for rod tube. LED lighting in the tray part of the truck would help and spotlights for around the truck.

    Hey Greg, have you considered getting a camper shell with racks for the truck, instead of a tonneau cover? You could sleep in the bed of the truck and store the kayak on the racks overnight. It would give you a lot more storage too. You can even get camper shells that have storage shelves on the sides to keep stuff locked up and hidden. You can do a lot with a camper shell.

      definitely considered it. that plus a 5th wheel, van, etc. the big thing for me is transitioning this truck from fishing mode to work/life mode. i love the fact that it can be ready for a weekend of fishing but i can convert it back to a normal vehicle and park it in the city for work and not worry about drawing too much attendtion.

    Greg, I was wondering the same as the prior comment. Why not put the kayak up high. I have car topped a canoe for many years. I understand the issue of lifting it up at the end of the day. The morning was never a problem at the end of the day I often needed help. Nattie up north used an assist arm in one of her videos, it seemed real slick. I would put a hard locking cover on the truck bed and put everything you have inside the truck in the bed and free up your living space. Think about adding another sliding storage box or 2 to the other side of the bed. Check out Scott Martins truck he has a slick storage system in his that is the full width of the truck bed and it looks like you might be able to stack them.

      I've been brainstorming every option for the past 4 months. From truck shell to a 5th wheel. Ultimately I wanted something that would last me just a few nights but also be super discreet and inconspicuous. I really like the fact that I could pull up to a public parking lot or street and camp out near a launch ramp if need be.

    Great setup, Greg. I will NOT sleep in the front seat of my truck, unless I HAVE to! (I might be a little bigger than most people 6'4" @ 200+, and I still don't have enough room in an F-150 Super Cab).
    You'll be "changing this and that" as your fishing/camping needs vary, and I'm sure you'll find a way around any obstacles you might encounter.
    Good Luck, Buddy.....

    Maybe you can look into some kind of roof top tent (overlanding style). For your camping needs. I’ve seen some that you can unfold the tent over a hard cover over the truck bed, or you can build out over the the racks. It still leaves room in the bed for your kayak and equipment and gives you more room to stretch out.

    • @GregBlanchardFishing
      @GregBlanchardFishing  5 лет назад

      I like that idea but it's also nice piece of mind that if something sketchy happens i can turn on the truck and be gone in an instant. some of the areas i plan to travel/fish are pretty remote.

    You should just invest in a kayak trailer to pull your kayak around and get a camper shell. That would give you more room for your gear and give you a better sleeping area.

  • @scottstewart5784
    @scottstewart5784 4 года назад

    If the kayak's gonna stick out the back so far, why not put it on top of the tonneau cover, so you have more space, and securable too? You can figure out a way to not have it break the glass and you already have the infrastructure to add to to cradle the kayak.

  • @jarredgage
    @jarredgage 5 лет назад +2

    Gregg, why don't you look at getting an old camper van and a small trailer. I have the Titan 13.5 and I found a cheap jon boat trailer and I am super glad I did. I am looking at getting a class b camper van to have a mobile hunting and fishing camp. Even if I am not camping I can take a break from the south Louisiana heat

      Great point. I contemplated this upgrade for months. i was actually about to pull the trigger on a 5th wheel at one point. but for me with work and fishing i wanted something that would just lend me a night or 2 of camping. i wanted it to be stealthy and easily converted back to a "regular truck" as I do tend to frequent ares for work that you don't want to draw too much attention to your vehicle.

    A lot of people are commenting about a roof top tent. If you had that you couldn't just use it the way you intend, like in a parking lot. Someone would spot you and complain about you camping too often I think. Maybe a bed cap would work. You could easily sleep in there stealthily and hook up an electric blanket or whatever. Then you could just put the kayak on a rack on top of the cap.

    Custom modded things are awesome. One thought though - is your outlet strip water resistant? There's a decent chance in rain that some drops of water get in there.

      the power strip? should be in the truck at all times so in theory no water should touch it!

    Awesome upgrades! The Wizard accomplished a lot in 12 hours. I like that safe! Where do you store your pedal drive?

      Wizard comes through again! pedal drive usually in the back seat as well but might just latch in onto the kayak in the back now! Might get a small lasso cable to keep things secure/safe during transit.

      @@GregBlanchardFishing I just started transporting mine that way... latched in the kayak with a lasso. Works just fine for me.

    Dude it would be pimp to hook the second battery in the bed of the truck up to a solar panel so you don’t have to charge it with the truck on

    Nice upgrades! What truck rack do you have? I have a similar tonneau cover and I'm interested in a compatible truck rack

    How much stuff do you have to remove from the truck to get to your jack, if you ever have to change a flat tire?

      Hey Greg. I have the jack in the DuHa tote in the truck bed. pretty quick and easy to access.

      @@GregBlanchardFishing 👍Good planning. A lot of trucks these days have the jack behind the seat, but not sure about where it is on your truck model.
