- I drive my 2020 Ram 2500 every day, so I thought it would be cool to build it out in to the ultimate TRUCK CAMPER which would allow me to survive for up to 5 DAYS Off Grid without me having to do anything. At any given time there's enough supplies on board to sustain me for that long - how cool is that?!

All u need is a 12V portable shower mate and a little bit more stored water ...all the rest is a spot on ! Brilliant setup...executed in a very practical way...thumbs up.
Thank you! I have a Rinse kit shower also 👌🏼
Great setup and good job to the builder . I have a tool drawer system that I built for my van, I used 3/4 plywood finish grade for all of it, the top slides in and out with routered edges to accept plywood to slide in and out, the drawers are 19 inches high and 2 feet wide by 6 foot deep, I have 2 drawers that slide in and out, the top slide holds the drawers from tipping out, all I used was furniture paste wax , the drawers are fit tight , inside the drawers I have wooden trays that slide on the top of drawers, they each weight 4 or 500 hundred pounds and I can easily pull them in and out, so don't be afraid to anyone that wants to build a drawer system that is wood on wood, with paste wax, my van has side doors that open up so if I need to get at the back of the drawers I open the back doors slide the top out and get what I need out of the side doors, for the front drawers I cut I hand hold out to stick my hand in to see slide drawers in and out, I love it and I would build it bigger and not be afraid, over time the wood slides better and better. I used glue and kreg pocket jig and screws to assemble box and drawers.
Hey Adam, there is this really cool watch brand called Holzkern and the make very cool watches with wood and stone. I really like them so I thought why not share it with you.
Sorry if the English is not perfect I’m still working on it! 👍
George from Icon is a great guy. I’ve been watching your videos for a long time now, then bought a ski. Then became friends with George literally a month after I bought it. We ride in Miami when he’s in town! Referring to the last video. Love the content as usual
Sweet!
Wrist check? Haha
Love the video's, we see you. This is how people hand over interests. Same as the famous moth... with love, proud and simply being you.
Respect and greets from Netherlands.
Thanks!
It’s such a sweet build. If I were you, I’d look at an aftermarket fuel tank. Several companies make extended capacity tanks that fit in place of the OEM tank and significantly increase capacity (I’ve seen up to about 75gal). It’s nice to be able to survive 5 days, but you need to be able to get somewhere safe AND make it back.
Yikes, it’s already expensive enough to fill 😂
@@AdamSwords It's cheaper in the long run as long as gas continues to move upward. FJB
@@AdamSwords If you fill up with the same frequency, it’s the same cost, you’ll just always have some reserve gallons 😉
Armadillo fuel bags for emergency
Nice set up. Also I’m laughing at your five day supply of beans and hot sauce! You better have a nice supply of toilet paper!
Hahahaha
Love the setup. My Suburban is set up,similarly. Same idea. I can literally leave for a couple of weeks and as long as I have fuel and can find water, I’m good to go. Still wanting to put a couple of panels, a power station, and a fridge . I avoid canned food. With the extreme conditions in a vehicle, you have a better chance of the seals going bad, so lots of Mountain House. There’s fishing gear, as well as ammo and a spare mag for every gun I have…so WEEKS, as long as I have fuel and water. I even keep two 20oz flasks of bourbon wrapped up in a few blankets and set upright in a corner. Hey…survival does not have to be hard.
I will say I really like that you can not tell what’s going on from the outside. Currently you can’t with my Suburban, but when I’m done with it, it will look more “overlandy”. And what the heck is a “flameless log” ?
Perfect!
I've owned 2 Rams myself and I love them. It looks like you found a gem there Adam. Safe travels buddy!
Great trucks!
Genius! And no one would ever guess by outside of vehicle that you could survive madmax/societal breakdown situation so easily by bugging out in wilderness or anywhere off grid. I would recommend keeping the small travel Berkey water filter & a 12 volt plug in heated sleeping blanket for cold weather.
Yup that was my goal, under the radar but comfy AF
This is probably my favorite setup of the dozens of videos I've seen so far. Don't usually comment, but wanted to say well done! I love how easily this can be converted from camper to daily driver as most others are much more complicated. Thanks for the inspiration!
I appreciate you taking the time to comment and glad you like the truck!
i was just going to make the same comment and someone already made it. everything they said. awesome build
Super inspired by this! Getting ready to build a modular setup for our Chevy Express 3500 van. Its my side hustle van so I have to be strategic about a drawer system I can pull out when I need the van for work. Love this, great work!
Awesome! Best of luck Gus
Nicely organized. Mine is a mess, but i can cook woth 12v dc cooker, make coffee, and make ice. And usually my battery doesn't go bellow 97%. Charge my cellphone and my car battery.
love this set up...I sleep in my Jeep Gladiator with a shell presently..I will be doing a drawer set up like this ...I also have a 270 awning with walls that close off the side and back for total privacy and out of any inclement weather that I maybe camping in...love your videos
Epic! Love those gladiators. You’ll love a drawer set like these
Good video bro watched the whole thing enjoyed very much
Glad you enjoyed, I appreciate it!
This is a sick build! Definitely like a lot of the kitchen elements
Thanks!
I love that truck! Everything is simply clever, great used space and a beautiful shell around. I probably would go for a little more headspace and think of an opportunity to go to the toilet or shower to really make sure camping in the wilderness for a couple of days is possible without feeling uncomfortable.
I have a rinse kit for showering 👌🏼
Love your setup..totally impressed with the doggo bedroom 👍👊
He loves it too!
Very nice. You have given me ideas for what I can do with my own suv.
For sure!!
Nice build, smart you have a 12v fridge.
I’m a genius 😂
Nailed it Adam.
👌🏼
I have RAM1500 Built To Serve 2020 and have the same idea for set up. I have all the gear in a Decked, on top of the Decked with a BakFlip hard cover, and plastic milk crates in the back seat floor board. Looking for a topper now.
I like the energy, go get'em!
Bro. I love everything about your build. AMAZING.
I appreciate that!
Nice set-up and thanks for the video. I am just getting into truck camping and getting ideas for my build. Keep the videos coming
thats a super sweet set up dude
Thanks!
What a great build, well done!!!!!
Thanks Mark!
Without a doubt a very nice build. We all have different needs and circumstances but you obviously loose so much space due to full size bed. Having to make arrangements for girlfriend and dog as you know changed everything. Liked and subscribed.
Thanks Sam!
I have been struggling trying to figure out a way to accommodate my dog for a future build and this gave me a few ideas. Absolutely brilliant build out!
Adam, yet another fantastic video! Great video series idea maybe... across America with the Truck!?!?!
I’ll definitely be doing some driving with it!
Great video and a very impressive setup! I am about to pick up a 2024 Chevy 2500HD to build as an overland camping/bugout vehicle. You gave me a lot of ideas.
I think that if you close it completely and sleep in it, you can breathe all the oxygen if you do not get up for something. Also in the summer you can get a lot of bugs inside because there is nothing to stop them getting in and even if you open a little bit of a window the mosquitoes will be happy about it. You can get a portable black shower bag. You didn't show if you have a table and somewhere to sit and something to keep you shade.
😂😂 it’s not a vacuum sealed box Alex. Also the windows have built in bus screens. I have an awning, table and chairs also.
Nice truck and amazing drone shots.
Thanks!
An awning would be cool to have.
I have one!
@@AdamSwords Of course you do. You front run me on that:):):)
You think of everything bro.
Camper looking awesome.
That was nice for them to return your camera.
Sure was!
Nice Job..This is awesome 👌 Thanks for sharing 👍
sideway activities:))))
😉
This Is RAD! Im In HB Also & Im Goin To Turn My Tacoma TRD Into The Same! Im A Contractor But Need A Different Life AWAY From OC As You Know!
That’s awesome Curtis! Good luck
I'd be afraid of hot sauces out in the bush. lol
Looks sick,love it
Thanks!
Such a sick build!! Im getting all my stuff together to do similar build. I have a 21 f250 that ill be doing similar to yours. Would love to pick your brain for things you would do different. Keep the content coming!
Honestly there’s nothing I’d change. It’s been flawless!
Nice!! Once the weather get better we need to hit the ocean on the Seadoo’s. I’m in Orange County
you would be a great pitchman.
16:05 Epic! lol
18:27 ROFL
Maybe keep some kind of easy-up tent/gazebo so you can put it up over the back to stay out of the sun/rain
I have a Moon Shade! It’s epic.
@@AdamSwords can’t wait to see the video of your first trip💪
I have a truck camper like this it's an amazing lifestyle for trip
Job well done!!!
Cheers!
Nice one Cheesecake!
Damn near perfection. I wonder if there's a way to plumb in a faucet to that collapsible sink. So well thought out! Love this shit! Subbed!
Thank you!
12:25 hmmm I think you must be talking about Blake Webers build outta his pickup, because this looks SO MUCH like his design…
Love the build, I'm working on build my Tacoma but on a smaller scale obviously but your truck build is awesome and I just subbed.
God's flash light I like that :)
It’s bright!
I must admit, when you first bought the truck and said you were getting rid of the camper van, I was a bit gutted. But after seeing how you have converted the truck, I'm really impressed, and I can see why you did it. I love that it really doesn't have anything that's not necessary, and everything pulls out ready to use so easily and slides away just as easily once you are done with it. I really like it. I want it. 😂
Right?! I loved my van but the fact that I have all of this ALL THE TIME truly is a game
Changer.
The moment that he said "Sideways Activities" I said to myself this video definitely deserves a like!
Hahaha thanks
What happens in 100 degree days: no air conditioning or if you camp at high elevation and you need heat?
I have a 12v AC unit and a thick sleeping bag 😅
The washing machine caption. 😂😂😂
I know I’m late to see your video. But the timing is perfect, when I saw the roof setup and I’m talking about the solar panels. One question do you take your truck through the Car wash and if so do the panels get scratched or damage?
They’re permanently mounted and I never have an issue
An absolutely perfect set up. I’m truly amazed how this turned out. This solution is more compact and looks far better than the van. I believe it’s much easier to get around, especially in the "middle of nowhere". Good job.
Thank you!
I think what you mean to keep saying is "I could live in luxury for 5 days". That setup has nothing to do with surviving. I could survive for 6 months off of what was in that pantry drawer alone.
😂😂
Exactly lol
Could've bought a house with how much that truck alone costs.
Firstly complaints section… where’s Carrie and Diesel Dog?? Interesting as I find you and your vids you need more female and fur baby content!! Now to the van, very well thought out and very neatly done, it’s a stealth van ! But you have a great set up for cooking but hardly anything set up for washing yourself and more importantly Carrie, that seems to be an afterthought your little bowl to wash in. Now what you could set up is a power shower using the lithium battery, fit a large water holder behind your bed and feed a small pipe up through the roof along the side of your solar panels with a flexible shower head running along and too the rear side of the van. That way you can park the van with enough room to the side so you and Carrie can keep fresh and not be seen by passers by because the Van Is shielding you. Hope that gives you an idea and of course being a perve we might see a bit of Carrie showering lol. But trust me, am an ex soldier and after several days out doing exercises the human body is not at its freshest and when we got in after putting our gear away a lovely cool pint was calling, but none of the WRAC girls would stand anywhere near us. So for the sake of your relationship and as a public warning in any local shops you visit fix up a shower. PS great vid
I have a Rinse Kit for showering 👌🏼
👍WOW what awesome job done to your truck Adam you and Chris are true geniuses. I am impressed ❤️
Thanks Sherri!
Oh and sorry, watching your video I was recommended by youtube to watch “when the dust settles” - truck car camper. It’s the same or similar truck as your but has everything your doesn’t, toilet, shower, able to sit upright, awning, hot and cold running water, comms etc. and he only spent 5k dollars.
Can you post a link?
Dear God man!!! You keep your beer at a balmy 41 degrees??? 🤮 Get a better fridge and make that Jackary and those solar panels worth the money you paid!!! LOL… I I love what you’ve done but get a colder fridge, because beer can never be too cold. 😂
Side ways, wicked funny.
😂
Nice build, but how do you cook if its raining, no protection ? No first aids kit ? One or two more solar panel could give you airco no ? And I simple gun could be a good protector no depends where you are going but you seems to be a person who want to be ready for all situation…..!
I have an awning from Moon Shade that suction cups to the camper shell. First aid kit is in the front. Air conditioning needs a generator, even the small ones are too power hungry for a solar set up (the truck has AC though). Protection is taken care of 😉
2:1 On the sixth day, Adam’s partner left for a sip of water and the promise of a roasted gopher.
I’ve had my truck for three years, and I still can’t figure out a system for the back of my truck lol. I have issues I’m always overthinking everything. But you have a good setup
I literally cannot fault this setup. It’s perfect
OK. the "girlfriend" is involved? Just kidding, my Wife is envolved with everything! Some of us may want to "sit up in bed" 9" foam? Can I lower a bit? Please read on... I really love your kitchen setup, but why so much spice area? All the spices needed are salt/pepper,other than Lower's seasoning salt and maybe garlic powder. That could be more space for "needed" items. After watching and looking at it all. I think you did an AMAZING job, well thought out. You guys have a great time my friends! Solar panels are great! Other than taht, the passenger side drawer would be for my lovely spouse,... if she decided to go with me. : ) Great build my friend, not much more to change.
I use lots of spices when I’m cooking, so they are my needed ones. When you build yours you can do it different! Cheers 👌🏼
Love it!! You didn’t happen to video tape the build so I could get pointers??
Yeah look back through my last few episodes
This mf wins off road stealth builds
Why thanks!!
Trying to find a topper/camper shell for my truck right now to start living out of my truck bed, because prices of living now days is absolutely ridiculous, I make 28 dollars an hour and I am still behind on my rent by a little over a month, and I have nothing fancy, 1992 truck , nothing on payments, it's ridiculous.
A.R.E make some great toppers
Ok I'll look into it, also how can I start making money on RUclips making videos like this?
@@AdamSwords ok so I got a topper for my truck, I put a video on my Chanel, I have questions on how I should set it up and all that, I asked another truck bed camping guy named man, but he never responds, so I need help
Sweet! Can you post the link to the little air conditioning vent you have for Diesel please? Apologies if I missed it!
This looks pretty comprehensive! What do you think limits you to 5 days? I am getting laid off and want to travel for 3-4 months before getting my next job, what do you think you would add to your setup to make it more comfortable for longer periods? The only thing I would change for me is a larger propane tank, but I don't know what I don't know...
I mean if you plan to stay around towns and cities you’d be fine with it how it is. Things I’d like to add for longer off grid trips would be a hot shower, more water, more propane a roof rack, better lights etc
For a new RUclipsr getting into truck camping this thing feels like a Lamborghini. Excellent job man! Look forward to seeing this thing in action. cheers
Haha thanks dude!
I used to live in El Toro {Lake Forest} and I miss the canyon. Is Cooks Corner still there?
Yup!
hey adam! love the build, what an inspiration! what did you do you for the propane tubing? looks super convenient. it almost looks like there's no regulator on there, just a valve, adapters and a hose? are you using the manual open connection by the bottle to set the PSI? also, any issues leaving it connected all the time?
Yup that’s exactly what I’m doing. The valve is the regulator. I disconnect the bottles after each use and rather than turn off the gas using the stove knob I just close the valve on the bottle itself to purge the remaining butane / propane from the line before disconnect.
great, thanks for the response - good to know! happy travels 🏄♂️
Hmmm… perhaps motorize the tailgate and rear window? 🤔
No need
What if it rains? Wet cooking.
I have a moonshade awning
Is there a tutorial on how you made those pushout drawers?
Not a full tutorial but we did a build video
Get a topper lift.
Your girlfriend must love it when you only eat beans with 6 inches of head room to spare
Who?
Love the build. I’m overseas in Okinawa where trucks aren’t very popular so I chose a Toyota Hiace turbo diesel 4wd to basically do what you did to your truck. I just added a joolca hot water system and it has truly been a game changer! If you get one, get the full nomad kit. You wont regret it.
I love those Hiace!
Now a Toyota is what’s recommended for Death Valley due to its amazing reliability. Well done sir!
Awesome build, we are using your solar power idea. Can you link where you can purchase the tape and the edges to protect the solar panel edges?
You have absolutely inspired my husband to the point he is making his truck into a self sufficient off grid truck. He has made me watch this for homework, I am impressed. Thank you for your awesome video.
Haha I’m sorry and you’re welcome!!
How do you deal with summer heat? Do you have a portable air conditioner?
Yup!
Are you using your phone to record all of this? And what kind of camera are you using? Thank you
GoPro Hero 5
Just want to say well done Adam the truck is amazing buddy I would not change anything its perfect big thumbs up from me👍
Thank you!
Sweet setup. Does your friend make the drawer systems available to anyone?
Hi Adam! Fantastic truck! But, as I'm a fellow Brit, one concern I have is what do you do for camping , cooking etc., when the weather is rainy and basically UK type weather? Have you installed any 5 day precautions for these situations? BTW love your banter with Producer Michael!!
I have an awning from moodshade :)
What watch you wearing bro ? Build looks sick well done .
The Bulova moon watch
That’s gotta be one of the best builds I’ve seen yet, love the kitchen!
Thanks Terry!
That’s actually a sick setup bro. I’m not a camper myself but today I turned 21 and definitely want to try rv camping like this in the future, inspired by your videos. Also love all the cool features you have installed. Much love from Australia 🇦🇺
Cheers mate!!
ONLY 5 DAYS? You don't even need food to survive 5 days! lol!
I want to do the same thing as this for my 6.5 ft bed. It’s a single cab but I’ll make it work
And “Bobs your Uncle”
I am in Alaska with some serious weather issues sometimes! I was thinking of a custom tent pop up area that attaches to back of truck and allows kitchen and porta-potty area to be out of the rain. It could be stored on bed while traveling. Are the drawers easy to move if you need the truck for regular utility in the back?
They’re very heavy, but with 2 people or a dolly you’d be fine
This is a great set up. I do like that the truck looks so subtle that nobody would really know what is going on inside. Wishing you many miles of happy camping. Thank you.
That was the plan! Thank you!
That was a good build. I especially like the fact that you can't tell that it's a camper. I have a similar set up on my channel but the solar system is a game changer.
It sure is!
Awesome truck! Now your ready to visit Brent at Ghost Town Living in Cerro Gordo California!
I am!
@@AdamSwords that will be one awesome video! Woo hoo!
I have been offgrid for 25 1/2 years.... 5 days...ha.
Pro tip: don't go to death valley in something painted black. You're welcome.
Awesome! As someone who finally moved out of a state they didn't want to live in, my next goal is to buy a truck and I will be using this for inspiration when I do my build!
Epic!
