    They make a pass over solenoid that is easy to install it will charge your battery in the back while driving and when you shut the truck off it separates the truck from the back battery. Solenoid runs about $40.00 bucks and works great.

    • @AdamSwords
      @AdamSwords  21 час назад

      That’s essentially what I have now, the solar only charges the power bank and the AC is switched live so shuts off when the truck stops running.

    I must admit, when you first bought the truck and said you were getting rid of the camper van, I was a bit gutted. But after seeing how you have converted the truck, I'm really impressed, and I can see why you did it. I love that it really doesn't have anything that's not necessary, and everything pulls out ready to use so easily and slides away just as easily once you are done with it. I really like it. I want it. 😂

    This is the best setup ive seen and ive been watching videos trying to design something for the same purpose. The comfort of knowing im prepared. I love it. Awesome work. Only thing ill do different is mounting my topper on an electric powered track system built into the bedrails of truck box so that i can raise my topper about 16 inches straight up providing more room between the bed and ceiling because nobody likes to be limited to strictly sideways action.

    It's such a good feeling not just having a rig ready, making you feel always prepared, but just in general. Im always trying to convince my buddies to build a rig that is ready for whatever. Also, the more prepared you are, the less competition you'll have if shtf ever does happen.

    Very nice design and build Adam! You were VERY fortunate to have someone with Chris’s talent, expertise and experience to make your ideas become a reality. Among carpenters there are relatively few who are are master craftsmen that can turn an idea into a reality without detailed plans, starting from scratch with a hand drawn sketch or an image of what you have in mind. You have a lot of very good ideas and concept of what you were after but my hat is also off to Chris. The workmanship in your build is not possible without a lot of experience and the necessary tools accumulated over time.

    Great setup and good job to the builder . I have a tool drawer system that I built for my van, I used 3/4 plywood finish grade for all of it, the top slides in and out with routered edges to accept plywood to slide in and out, the drawers are 19 inches high and 2 feet wide by 6 foot deep, I have 2 drawers that slide in and out, the top slide holds the drawers from tipping out, all I used was furniture paste wax , the drawers are fit tight , inside the drawers I have wooden trays that slide on the top of drawers, they each weight 4 or 500 hundred pounds and I can easily pull them in and out, so don't be afraid to anyone that wants to build a drawer system that is wood on wood, with paste wax, my van has side doors that open up so if I need to get at the back of the drawers I open the back doors slide the top out and get what I need out of the side doors, for the front drawers I cut I hand hold out to stick my hand in to see slide drawers in and out, I love it and I would build it bigger and not be afraid, over time the wood slides better and better. I used glue and kreg pocket jig and screws to assemble box and drawers.

    I want to second "callecoxxx"s comment. You can tell the effort and trial-n-error that went into creating the most efficient setup with the smallest possible footprint and keeping it modular. You said it perfectly..."I love the fact that I've been able to do something so impressive while being so unintrusive". It takes more time to figure out what you 'DONT' need, than what you 'DO' need. Love the setup. My Suburban is set up,similarly. Same idea. I can literally leave for a couple of weeks and as long as I have fuel and can find water, I’m good to go. Still wanting to put a couple of panels, a power station, and a fridge . I avoid canned food. With the extreme conditions in a vehicle, you have a better chance of the seals going bad, so lots of Mountain House. There’s fishing gear, as well as ammo and a spare mag for every gun I have…so WEEKS, as long as I have fuel and water. I even keep two 20oz flasks of bourbon wrapped up in a few blankets and set upright in a corner. Hey…survival does not have to be hard.

    Ha! "DOWN to 70°" and still toastie. That's all perspective I guess. At 70, that's like an oven on High for me. I'm actually pondering how to have A/C for the times it's up to 70. More so, I'll have a Buddy Heater for when its below about 40°. I'll definitely be sleeping in my truck bed when it's down to 20 for sure. Maybe 10.
    Actually if it's much above 70° without A/C, I'll either sleep in the cab with the engine running and A/C or might opt for a hotel at that point.
    Thanks for sharing your box layout. That's a really nice kitchen setup.

  • @ThatGuy-dj3qr

    Excellent storage layout and excellent workmanship. You've given me some great ideas.
    There seems to be a consensus in videos I have watched that 4" mattress foam is quite comfortable. As well, I think I will opt for a high rise truck cap, or a lower storage drawer profile. My wife is quite claustrophobic so I need as much headroom as possible for sleeping. As well, when we hit the road I think I will remove the two rear passenger seats to maximize storage space in the cab.

    • @AdamSwords
      @AdamSwords  Год назад +1

      I’d do your testing at home with the mattress. Some of the prison mattresses these guys sleep on are beyond me. I slept on the 6” memory foam tri-fold bamboo mattress before I added the topper and I found that my hips, elbows, shoulders - anywhere with the most pressure would start to ache during the night. Once I added the topper - it’s in the top 3 comfiest mattresses I’ve ever had.
      You wouldn’t want to go any slimmer for the drawer height either, so I recommend getting the extra height topper.

      @@AdamSwords Thanks for the feedback. I have a Toyota Tacoma, so have even less space to play with. I have camped my entire life (now in my late 60s) and most of that time I was sleeping on a 1 1/2" inflatable mattress so my thought process is that
      a) every inch counts,
      b) my wife is claustrophobic,
      c) from a camping point of view, 4" of foam sounds luxurious to me, and
      d) everything is a compromise.
      As well, I have a sailboat, and the berths are all 3" foam and it is almost enough for sleeping comfort,, but I do feel a few pressure points.
      However, to your point, I will test the mattress first. In the end, the body will have the last say. 😊

    It’s such a sweet build. If I were you, I’d look at an aftermarket fuel tank. Several companies make extended capacity tanks that fit in place of the OEM tank and significantly increase capacity (I’ve seen up to about 75gal). It’s nice to be able to survive 5 days, but you need to be able to get somewhere safe AND make it back.

    I think that if you close it completely and sleep in it, you can breathe all the oxygen if you do not get up for something. Also in the summer you can get a lot of bugs inside because there is nothing to stop them getting in and even if you open a little bit of a window the mosquitoes will be happy about it. You can get a portable black shower bag. You didn't show if you have a table and somewhere to sit and something to keep you shade.

    If you put a roof box on the top of that truck you’d be able to put the generator and fridge under the bed and use the roof box as clothing storage. Give that boy diesel more lounging space
