I bought this for my friend for his birthday as we just moved into a new house and he finally has room for a workshop. The bench was very easy to set up ruclips.net/user/postUgkxyFZUPFEey-PuqsPMxqaykBhgA1LWxFHh They center support is a little difficult to snap in and out of place at first but at least then we know the bench is secure. It was a pleasant surprise when we saw it came with clamps. I apparently missed that in the description. My friend loves the versatility of the bench. Great starter bench for his workshop and easily transportable all over our property. I wish the bench was a little taller but the other features of the bench more than make up for that.
I truly appreciate that you don't use an unnecessary amount of clamps and what not on the prjects and make everyone think they need them for a finished product
Built these drawers about two years ago and installed them in my Ram 1500, with a 6 foot bed. They are awesome. The plans are well worth the cost. I'm a professional electrician and these drawers are great for what I do every day. I even got fancy and built my own bed slide type pullout on top of the drawers. Really pleased with everything. Thanks for the instructions and the plans!
Know how you feel as well. Im a jman electrician who just started with an hvac company. They gave me a truck that has a canopy with some shelving on the outside and it comes with a sliding floor in the box. A pack rat box like this would be perfect since the shelving on the sides hold shit, and the slide out can basically only handle my cable reels. But theres so many little pieces in our trade, that you need as many drawers as possible haha.
The first half of the ruclips.net/user/postUgkx3ICSK6nSknaL_45CU2NmFSoXjarGMDiJ book is everything about wood: types, tools, finishes, setting up shop etc. The second half is all about doing projects for inside and outside of the home. The color pictures are helpful. After reading a dozen of these types of books, this is probably the best overall (layout, color photos, plans). Only detraction is that many of the projects use a table saw/router/planer, which are usually expensive and take up space, so the plans are less friendly to newcomers and the budget conscious. But I know I can use a drill, circular saw or a jigsaw to make the projects.
I just built these for my Ram. I’m definitely not a carpenter or woodworker and it shows. But the plans were easy to follow and make adjustments to for my auxiliary fuel tank. I’m a mobile rv repair technician and these drawers will definitely keep me more organized. I highly recommend buying the plans. Doing it yourself will save you thousands of dollars compared to buying the prefabricated drawer systems.
I'm so glad I came across this. I just bought a 4x8 trailer that I'm going to make a kayak trailer. I was wanting to make a rod locker and camping storage. I might use ball bearing casters because my drawers will be bigger. Tha KS for the great vid.
I am handyman who works out of my truck. I built draws like this for my F150 about 6 years ago. I used ½" ball casters for the drawers to slide on. But I really like this plastic strip idea. My drawers are still going strong and work better than I could have imagined. They don't lock but my tailgate does. And for "handles" I just cut 3½" slots in the drawers. To seal the drawers I used construction glue along along with screws, and I also used chaulking along the seams. Then I used a garage floor sealer or the outer coating and just did each side of the box individually. On the top I added the traction shavings that come with the sealer kit. But honestly, I would rather have the top be smooth. It's nice to have tools with you and still be able to have a bed to a certain degree. I have thought about adding a canopy to my bed with side access windows or sides. But at the same time I like the roll back bed cover I currently have. Really enjoyed your making of this and the shaving of the beard was epic.
I love the editing! The video cut straight to the important parts and we weren't left there waiting for you to line everything up and get your tools in position. When you were ready to pop the chalk line, that's exactly where you went with the video. When you drilled in those screws it went one screw to the next without any lag time in between. I don't have a truck and I'm not interested in putting drawers in my van but I still like the video!
after much arguing back and forth with myself about the best slide solution. I have decided to use your solution for the slides on my kayak trailer build. I plan to have 3 drawers slide out the back of the box the two outside drawers will hold our fishing kayak paddles, floatation and swivel seats plus other camping gear. The center long pull out won't be so much a drawer but a rod and reel caddy that can be pulled out after all other gear has been added to the kayaks. We've had our kayaks for like a year and still have yet to put them in the water. So hoping to have this build done before the end of summer to take on a trip. Thanks for the ideas from your video.
Very cool! I've built 3 of these for trucks I've owned since the mid 90's, but none currently. All have been treated, due to no bed cap. I've used laminate strips under drawers and on top of floor. 2 were painted before ACQ happened, last one was epoxy painted. I never used a latch of any kind (yours is very cool), I did add lighting on the last one. 2x8 is bare minimum for height in my opinion, 2x6, 2x8,and last was 2x12.
Love this project, bought the plans and have started making a set for my Tacoma. I did make one modification though, I'm adding a bottle opener for enjoying ice cold refreshment when the job is done.
Thanks for your excellent videos. A few years ago I built a dory with your instruction on RUclips. Then I rowed in on a winter river trip in Grand Canyon. You’re a legend bud. Cheers 🍺
Small upgrade. You can make a lid for the drawers out of food-grade plastic. The main reason is for food prep when camping... or just a nice surface to work on. Works great for cleaning fish as well.
Love it! I plan on making one at some point, I like your locking mechanism, simple and strong. I did want to share one thing with you about bending metal in your vise. When I was younger my dad and I were working on something and we clamped some steel in the vise, gave it a couple swift hits-and broke the front of the vise off! We were told later by an older gentleman that when you pound on a vise make sure the force only goes onto the stationary jaw, not the movable one. Just thought I’d pass on that wisdom. Keep up the great work! God bless and Merry Christmas
One question on that.how big of a vise was it.you may have been doing that on a cheap thing or not made for what you did.ive never had that problem before but I guess it could happen.or did you even use heat to weaken the steel up?
This is one of the best videos on the subject. Most don't show the right parts of the construction and skip important stuff. This is a proper DIY instructional video. Cheers mate

was searching around for a system that did not use expensive slides, but was still durable, never thought of UHMW till I watched your video, THANK YOU. I do volunteer (construction and maintenance) for a local animal shelter and this will save a lot of loading and unloading of tools. Will probably only make it 1/2 or a little wider in bed so I can still get ice chest in. I only have a hard bed cover on my Tundra (ACE brand)
Great video! Great build! A tool suggestion for centering pilot holes in anything that you need to be dead centered on. Look for the “Vicks” (vix) bit. A self centering spring loaded bit guide. They come in standard common sizes. A tool that will increase quality, and ease the speed of production.
Well that beard cutting exercise was absolutely stunning. What great proof that your planer blade was sharp. I et so sick of people using paper. Great Job! And the video too!
Great video, as always. I love how Utz was regularly looking right at the camera. That was pretty brave, shaving off the full beard like that vs cutting it short first and then shaving.
I am happy to see you work in a good workplace equipped with complete and expensive equipment, of course, thank you for sharing, greetings from Indonesia.
Great work, one minor nitpicky thing I would suggest would be instead of screwing your pull handles in, to use quarter inch bolts and washers through the wood. Over time screws seem to weaken, especially if you have heavy things in the drawers, or if the drawers get wet from time to time.
Best tutorial I’ve seen yet, Very informative not a lot of verbal Nonsense, kudos to your woodshop canine helper, very professional looking and functional drawers the slide /glides is a great idea, keep up the great work, BYW I knew your wife would find out about her lipstick. funny, Thanks for your video,
Nice drawers,i was a professional builder guy and used them a lot, i found that my friends set didn't slide well after awhile, i used 3/4 in plywood and dadoed all the drawer fronts because i knew the drawers would be heavy ,i also dadoed 2 oak strips into the bottom of each drawer and put high impact plastic where they slid. I used them for 10 yrs and they worked great. don't know if anyone appreciates it but there you go. oh,i also made sliding trays ,which were nice because so much stuff like hoses cords and saws go in low.and the top trays keep everything flat .
LOL - Good one! Despite having Essential Tremors, I still shave with my Gillette Double Edge razor. Thankfully, the sight of blood (especially mine) doesn't bother me and I have a good supply of Styptic Pencils! ROFL "All I wanted was a clean shave - not a self-sacrifice!" LOL
About done making mine for my truck. Super easy, and will save a bunch of time clearing space for the kids in the back of my truck. Cant wait to build another one thats more square and true once i am able to walk again
That was fantastic! I almost “stick around to the end” to watch what people add after a build but yours was totally entertaining!!! Thanks for a great vid and project!
Great video. Well thought out design. Not a super complicated assembly. You explained everything well. Thanks for posting. Now if plywood ever becomes affordable again...
Those are great!! I used to work at Los Angeles Unified School Dist. Maint. & Oper's. in the glass dept. All of the truck had this same system. The only difference is that they were deeper, were surrounded by a steel frame work in the bed and opened and closed on steel rollers. There was enough room in the drawers for a small compartment in each one for screws, hand tools and other needed items. The bed was then covered with 14 ga. steel sheet to enclose the top and the glass rack was installed last. Locks were installed on the tailgate next to the rear end of the fenders. That kept everything secure while the truck was unattended...
You might have the best dog on RUclips! At a Police Dept I worked at the investigator Ford Excursions hada really expensive metal drawer setup in the back. I think all told they cost more than a grand. DIY design and make it yourself is much better.
The standard pricing on the market is the “Decked Option”, while doing so with lumber and carpentry is usually around half of that. Meaning if you could manufacture them, you could charge 850-900$ each.
@@joeshmoe9521 Decked is not the standard for law enforcement. TruckVault is. Decked is a great system for recreational/camping/utility gear. TruckVault is great for storing firearms and similar gear. With that said... this video was amazing and I wish I had the time, space, and equipment to do this myself. My TruckVault system in my Tacoma was nearly 4 grand. The Diamondback Cover was two.
And a sneaky tip...extend the lipstick all the way out and use the side of the base. Wife won’t know for weeks😜 or just use the yellow flame from a lighter...soot marks work too.
I noticed you didn't have any retention device to keep those drawers in their respective slots, or to keep them from accidentally being pulled too far out, was that done on purpose?
@@mjrwey no the tailgate holds the weight. He was meaning if you pull on the drawers eventually they will come out. Usually there is some sort of stopping block or something in place so that when you pull on them eventually it will stop the drawer from coming all the way out of the frame.
@@EDOutdoors91 From looking at the past video (ruclips.net/video/cK4xyd71WSI/видео.html) I think it was intentional. It makes it easy to take out the drawers if you wanted to keep them somewhere else like the garage. I guess you could take the whole unit out as well.
I made a set of these using 3/4 sanded ply for almost all of it with a 12" tall box for my F-150 8' bed - then built some sliding internal boxes within the drawers... so far so good. One issue was the UHMW - cheaper to buy a whole sheet than pay for shipping. I used pocket screws and glue - Temperature changes were an issue with the UHMW temp swings were 35 - 75 degrees during the build - hoping the weight of the drawers will solve any issues going forward - I live in AZ - the real test will be the long hot summer - good project - next phase is a rolling truck bed to mount to the top - I think I will have my welder build it for me instead of more wood and a bunch of bearings or maybe use 8020... I don't have a tailgate so I mounted the whole project to the truck bed with rivet nuts - my new favorite thing - cant wait to find more uses for these babies
@@hannahpierson5648 yes - plenty of weight to counterbalance as long as 1 of them is is closed. I have developed a problem with the slides on 1 side so I have to re configure the slides - what has happened is one of my pocket screws went through and etched a groove in the plastic slide material so I have to replace it. - The box I built was 6' long and sits in a 8' bed - Right behind the cab I have an inverter and shelving - hope that helps
the most amazing part about this video is that his wife's bathroom doesn't have all of it contents sitting on the counter top in a very chaotic mess. Ive never in my 23 years of living has seen a bathroom that a women uses daily that's that neat.
You had me right up until you drilled into the bed of your truck. I'm going to go with a rubber mat to lift the tool drawers and prevent movement. Nice drawers. Cheers!
Nice, simple, and well done. I might do this for my old truck A few tips though, use actual wood screws throughout, not just in some spots. Drywall screws are a poor choice for wood working. They work great for holding drywall, but dont have the strength needed and corrode and break too easily for woodworking. I used to do a lot of deck building and find that deck screws work great for things like this that need a bit of extra strength. I use red Chapstick for what you used the lipstick for. It's not quite as visible, but it works, is cheaper, and doesn't piss off the better half. I've also used a dab of lithium grease or a tiny dab of craft paint before with good results. I loved the chisel shave!. I used to shave with my KA-BAR out in the field every once in a while, just to freak out the boots. It's a bit harder since the blade is so much longer.
Great video and even better idea. I really enjoy seeing how you have no limits on what you can create while keeping it extremely simple. You make it look so damn easy. Thank you for the project idea! Looking forward to more videos.
Great video, thank you very much for putting that together. People don't realize what it takes to put a good video together. Nice work I'm going to build a drawer for my back of my Ford escape. 🤙🤙
wish I had a video like this about 18 months ago when I built my truck bed storage system. I bought 500# drawer slides, that cost a ton, and wound up only putting one set of slides in. What I have set up now works for me but it is not what I envisioned. Thank you for the tutorial and plan if I want to redesign it!!!!
I know I am tardy to the party, but your video popped up in my que. I must say, you do some incredible work. I love the attention to detail. Definitely a follower of you RUclips and Instagram. Thanks for posting.
Why do I watch these 😂 I’m 16 and I’m not handy at all! Oh well, maybe if I watch these enough I’ll figure something out. You’re awesome man, keep doing what you’re doing!
Commander Appo ya gotta start somewhere. RUclips is a great place to get ideas. If you haven’t already, check out Steve Ramsey at Woodworking for Mere Mortals. You’ll learn tons of great beginner and intermediate stuff there.
The only way to get handy is to Flock stuff up!!!! You will not build a inlay jewelry box for your Mom the first time but with you tube, family, classes and practice you can become very handy. Being able to watch someone do something is such a great asset to learning, Biggest thing is do not get discouraged, Build simple stuff the best you can, then focus on what was not great and do better the next time.
When I was very young, my grandpa repeatedly told me if I wanted to do something bad enough I would find a way to do it. I am now in my 60s and have always found that to be the most true statement in my life. I will add, have fun while you are doing it.
Kid... You think at 50, as a maintenance tech in a cabinet factory I know everything?!? Absolutely not, life is a journey, you learn or should learn something new daily. Keeps you sharp and hungry! So jump in, start small, ask everyone who has the knowledge you want or need!
I just did a pretty close variation of this for my Tacoma. Appreciate design details (especially plastic strips instead of drawer slides and the carpeted drawer bottoms) and MY dog Linus loves riding in back now atop the memory foam mattress...

Very enjoyable video, I laughed out loud a few times , (my missus was lookin' at me funny, prob thinkin' 'what the hells he lookin at'?) and hey those drawers are great , so much so i'm gonna build some for myself in my F350 longbed and hide 2 x 12 volt deep cycle batteries in the spare 'cubbys' around the wheel well as well as a jump pack and air compressor.....you are obviously a very skilled craftsman and talented videographer to boot, thanks for posting this ;¬)

I used them for 10 yrs and they worked great. don't know if anyone appreciates it but there you go. oh,i also made sliding trays ,which were nice because so much stuff like hoses cords and saws go in low.and the top trays keep everything flat .
I threw away the Gillette razors a few years ago and took up straight shaving. Had a full beard ever since. lol
hahahaha
🤣
I used to carry a straight razor back in school because it was in a pretty rough area. Years later I learned that it’s actually used for shaving lol
That's one way to cover up the scars...
LOL - Good one! Despite having Essential Tremors, I still shave with my Gillette Double Edge razor. Thankfully, the sight of blood (especially mine) doesn't bother me and I have a good supply of Styptic Pencils! ROFL
"All I wanted was a clean shave - not a self-sacrifice!" LOL
About done making mine for my truck. Super easy, and will save a bunch of time clearing space for the kids in the back of my truck.
Cant wait to build another one thats more square and true once i am able to walk again
That was fantastic! I almost “stick around to the end” to watch what people add after a build but yours was totally entertaining!!! Thanks for a great vid and project!
thanks so much man, glad you liked it
Thank you for not putting music in this the sound of tools running was perfect accompaniment Nice job thanks
I like that you immediately addressed the tool limitation isssue some of us have
I can't decide which awesome thing I want to say about this video. But, expect some shop lipstick for Christmas this year.
Yea I had some fun with this one :)
Great video. Well thought out design. Not a super complicated assembly. You explained everything well. Thanks for posting. Now if plywood ever becomes affordable again...
Definitely one of the best built sliding drawers I’ve seen, thank you for sharing
Ps using your wife’s lipstick... you’re braver than I
Those are great!!
Great video of the perfect project. Simple and usefull as hell! Thank you bro! I gonna use your idea in my 1993 Nissan Patrol! Regards from Poland!
The lock is excellent. I'm impressed
You might have the best dog on RUclips! At a Police Dept I worked at the investigator Ford Excursions hada really expensive metal drawer setup in the back. I think all told they cost more than a grand. DIY design and make it yourself is much better.
And people wonder why their taxes are so high.
I'm building these asap.
Manliest shave ever!
Me, with just a simple shed handsaw, earnestly discovering and watching the video to the end, with fragile dreams.
Your attention to detail is incredible. You’ve inspired me to make a small set for my Jeep TJ!
And a sneaky tip...extend the lipstick all the way out and use the side of the base. Wife won’t know for weeks😜 or just use the yellow flame from a lighter...soot marks work too.
Brilliant!
I noticed you didn't have any retention device to keep those drawers in their respective slots, or to keep them from accidentally being pulled too far out, was that done on purpose?
The tailgate holds them from falling out, its towards the end of the video.
He don’t pull out
I made a set of these using 3/4 sanded ply for almost all of it with a 12" tall box for my F-150 8' bed - then built some sliding internal boxes within the drawers... so far so good.
I don't have a tailgate so I mounted the whole project to the truck bed with rivet nuts - my new favorite thing - cant wait to find more uses for these babies
did you find the drawers have enough support fully extended without the tailgate?
I litteraly just saw that looked at ours and thought the same.
From Argentina, I saw your video really very didactic and very good in the development of the work, greetings
Nice job "NED FLANDERS!" - "HI-DIDLY-HO NEIGHBORINO!" GREAT VIDEO!
Bahahahaha!!!
I had your idea on the brain a few weeks back before I found your video...
WELL DONE, SIR!
Will be making mine soon.
Really nice project and good job with the details of the video. Thanks
Literally just clicked on the video and I see a GWP definitely fellowing the channel
Handsome wire haired pointer 🙂 His reaction was great when you’re sliding him in the drawers 😂
wish I had a video like this about 18 months ago when I built my truck bed storage system. I bought 500# drawer slides, that cost a ton, and wound up only putting one set of slides in. What I have set up now works for me but it is not what I envisioned.
Thank you for the tutorial and plan if I want to redesign it!!!!
Hmmm I finally followed Robert's advice and took woodprix. It's great for beginners, and has some advanced stuff too.
Perfect. Just perfect!
I know I am tardy to the party, but your video popped up in my que. I must say, you do some incredible work. I love the attention to detail. Definitely a follower of you RUclips and Instagram. Thanks for posting.
I love the old lipstick trick! Grandpa appreciates getting credit on that one.
This is super badass. I looked into building one instead of buying a Decked kit, but I only have a drill and hand saw... Maybe I'll make a simple one.
@@WhatIsKenDoing So very true....I am 47 and just starting in woodworking....it all started watching youtube videos...
0:19 I Love how My Son Just said "His Dog Kinda Looks Like Him!" LOL That's Awesome... NOW! On with the Show!
😂😂😂
great build and I've never seen such a calm german wirehair. What a dog!
Chris could go to Mars, start the Fourth Coast Craftsman channel, build a smelting plant from the raw materials, and manufacture habitats for humanity's expansion into the cosmos. . . all while making his own air to breathe on the fly.
Far and away the best video of a simple and functional drawer/bed platform I have seen. Gonna build this one! THANK YOU!
13:31 I swore that you were installing a bottle cap opener to the end of your drawers but they turned out to be handles for your creation.
Great video, I feel confident enough now to do a set of storage drawers for my 4runner.
“She’ll never know” 😂😂
This is literally the best video
I have seen I’m
Going to start this project tomorrow thank you for your help
Very enjoyable video, I laughed out loud a few times , (my missus was lookin' at me funny, prob thinkin' 'what the hells he lookin at'?) and hey those drawers are great , so much so i'm gonna build some for myself in my F350 longbed and hide 2 x 12 volt deep cycle batteries in the spare 'cubbys' around the wheel well as well as a jump pack and air compressor.....you are obviously a very skilled craftsman and talented videographer to boot, thanks for posting this ;¬)
Nice use of a Schluter profile on the straight line guide for your circular saw.
Too funny! Loved the sh*t eating grin when you said "She'll never know..." And your wife's reaction. That was either real or she's a pretty good actress :-) Clyde
Excellent job! The lip stick was a riot.
Third Coast Craftsman: *uses FlexSeal*
Me, an intellectual: Ah, a man of culture, I see!
great job. The shave was sick, no blood! Genius!
And thus the Monopoly mustache was born! This has got to be the most manly thing you can do with a plane iron!
Third Coast Monopoly Man?
@@MikeTheMaker1 He really needs to start doing videos in a monocle whilst he has the 'stache
Christopher Drzal now that would be a man I could watch videos on all day.
I used and old truck bed liner that I got for free and cut it to size to make slides for my drawers......nice project, looks good
the amount of times i said "amazing" throughout this lol....i'm converting my jeep into a camper and definitely using this drawer design!
Just happened across your vid and now I'm going to have to come back and watch! Anyone with an epic set of hand planes such as yours deserves my attention! Looking forward to checking back in as soon as I get some dastardly administrative junk out of the way this morning!
