Hey dude. I just wanted to say thank you. I'm relatively new when it comes to establishing and maintaining a nice lawn, so when I need a question answered or need some advice, I come to your channel. You're the man!
Thank you for turning me on to Tenacity. I resoded the front yard several years ago with RTF and there was a patch of weird grass right in the middle of one area. I thought nothing of it. Now, it has spread and there are other patches of the same stuff all over. I have recently figured out that it is creeping bent grass. I hope to be able to get at least two treatments of Tenacity down before it gets too cold. I know its rather late, but here in the northern Willamette Valley of Oregon, we can have decent weather, of and on through October.
great job identifying the problem Kevin! I would suggest mixing the tenacity with a product called triclopyr ester. it will help travel through the bent grass faster. You'll also need to do monthly applications to really put a dent in it.
Thank you! Very informative. i actually put tenacity on my lawn today but was worried about when to overseed. This is when i came across you videos. i watched them all in this series. How relieved iam to find out that you wish you would have started with tenacity first! i will be aerating and overseeding around Christmas and adding more tenacity and a few other products you have mentioned here. South Florida is my location-anymore helpful tips as I go Forward would be greatly appreciated 🙏... again thank you soo much!!
about the only thing I would caution you on is the type of grass you're growing or applying. these products are not for use on bermuda type lawns. Thanks for watching and i'm happy that you found value in the videos.
I nominate my ugly lawn! Tried Tenacity and I still have a ton to fix! You inspire me brother! Want to do a remote challenge on my yard on Ohio? It could be fun! Let me know.... Keep rocking! That View OMG!

I don't know what all the weeds are so I'm not expecting a full die out. Will do another round of tenacity in a few weeks though.
I love your videos! I am from Utah & miss it; living in KS. I have a Sunjoe the same as yours & the first time this spring I used the scarifier & pulled out a 1/2 ton truck bed full of thatch (~300 gallons) from ~5000 sq ft lawn. I have Not needed to water this year yet due to the tornadic thunderstorms we have been getting, ~ 4 inches of rain in the past week. Keep up the good work!
You've just given me an idea, I'm going to show my wife our lawncare receipts. Maybe then she'll understand why I water the lawn, we have water and sewage fees.
William Wade See if your municipality allows for two meters, one for outside water usage and the other for inside the house. That way you only pay for water rates on the irrigation and no sewage rates. One meter assumes all incoming water goes out for treatment. Ginja. I just finished playing with my new toy, The SunJoe! I dethatched or power raked if you will. My goal is to basically rejuvenate my lawn and get rid of some of the undesirables, while improving the desired growth which I believe is KY blue. And I have grubs. I saw them while cleaning out old purple loosestrife that had taken over some areas. I live in IL/Chicago area. It is April, 20th and it is snowing today although we have had temps pushing 80° for a day or 2 earlier in April. The ground temperature is between 46-49° F. My plan is to kill the grubs. Follow your Tenacity herbicide treatment along with SpeedZone first. In a couple weeks I plan to treat with Tenacity only and overseed with KY Blue. I have numerous grass types including KY Blue, but I want the Kentucky Blue to be dominant, and gradually take over. I am a little unsure of where to start in terms of grub treatment and herbicide treatment. I ordered Imidicloprid liquid, cyonara liquid and I have the menards brand, bioadvanced?, granular as well. And BTW I found a Barenbrug store near me just fyi. Will you please give me some input as to where exactly to start? Can I do the grub treatment and the Tenacity treatment together? Thanks. Enjoy your show!
So took the plunge and picked up a SunJoe. Great unit. Did three power rake passes today. Hot down to -5. It’s amazing how much dead grass is in there. So now what? Fertilizer and water? Or do I seed?
Depends on the situation. Good job getting the job done. If the grass is super stressed I would do a recovery application with fertilizer, tenacity, and speedzone. then 2 weeks later I would do tenacity with an overseed.
Should the watering of this been much more than the deep and infrequent after germination? What would be the ideal water plan for this situation? Thanks brother, love the videos!
Yes. Deep and infrequent. His soil doesnt hold water well. Needs to be trained. He fell into the trap thinking the water that was falling from the sky was sufficient. We're going to have to water daily now to catch up. Figure a week of daily watering should do it. Need to create a reservoir of water 6"-8"deep
Thanks Joe! Lots of reading labels. It's very common for people to rely on salesman at stores and supply warehouses. After a few bad experiences I chose to read every label we use.
Just came upon this. What was the end result with the quackgrass? Any recent update you can give on that? I've got loads of it and if Tenacity will get rid of it that would be awesome !
I like your channel a lot more than another big name lawn care person (he’s fine but can be pretentious). How often do you use tenacity per year? I just overseeded and used granular mesotrione with lawn food. I’m looking to make the switch to tenacity but unsure how often to apply it. Thanks!
I use tenacity as a tool for specific tasks. I use it for overseeding and I use it for annual grasses like crabgrass and foxtail. I like to use it for clover and oxalis as well. The applications are fairly simple. 2 gallons of water to 1 tsp of tenacity per 1000 sq ft.
I am currently using Blindside that is very expensive, and the results are just okay... My weeds here in Florida no longer fear me and have now begun to mock me. I wonder if I grow in a beard if I could restore the intimidation factor...
Love your channel, I been working in landscaping for 4 years now. Very beautiful scenery of the mountains off topic lol, awesome beard, how do you take care of it in the brutal heat of Utah working in the yard? use any beard oils?
Hey! Thanks for watching. Check out old abe beard products. Owned by mma fighter court McGee. I've been using his products for almost two years and love them.
Hey Ginja! Thanks for the Tenacity Challenge Series.. Im following along. I have 7k KBG, PR, TTTF and last year I had about 1k Bent Grass invasion.. Tenacity Crushed it and I completed the reno with a big Overseeding project.. My desirable grass came in strong and survived the winter.. should I follow up now in the spring with a Tenacity Blanket Spray to highlight any returning Bent grass??
Pest and Lawn Ginja ... Agreed... The lawn is looking nice right now with the exception of Poa and Triv.. I can handle a few more highlights to avoid another invasion! Thanks Again!
Some people have orange skins, others have an empty jar of peanut butter, I guess. Was it a little early for grub/insect control or does summer come faster to your elevation?
Is there a seed store you’d recommend locally or online. Looking for a bulk KBG variety that is good for the kids to play on and will be durable. Thanks!
I noticed the flower beds were full of weeds do you think it wld help if the property owner wld control those that it wld help the spreed of weeds through the lawn. I realize that is a huge run on sentence. Lol
I plan to follow this method but it's hard to catch the name of the products as you use them. What are the the products you added to the sprayer with the tenacity? What is the first granulated product use spread? Looks like you spread max pack then pro peat then grass seed - right?
All the products are listed in the video description. The order doesn't matter as much. I like to put the tenacity ontop of the peat but its just preference.
@@GetTheNet1963 🤣🤣🤣🤣 what kind of pest and lawn Ginja do you take me for. Yes. It had the potential to change. It doesnt change for as long as one might think in a 7.5 ph.
I had a question for you I live in the midwest Iowa in particular we have where I'm located a lot of clay I might have one inch of topsoil so it is very hard to grow grass and with the summer heat my lawn is very patchy right now what would you suggest that I do to prepare this soil so at least the grass will take to it
The good news is that clay can hold a lot of nutrients. Chances are your sprinklers are off or you're not quiet getting enough water into the clay. As for conditioning the soil I use humates and gypsum (calcium). This helps soften the clay and keep it open to allow air to pass. Some lawns are so calcium deficient the only thing that grows well is weeds.
I am curious why you don't use indicating dye during application in case a random orange is thrown your way, and you have to full on Ninjato with your spray wand?
😂 I’ve never used one other than demonstrating how they work. They stain shoes, concrete and my soul for about a week. I like to calibrate so I don’t have to use that crutch. But I feel it’s a fantastic tool for beginners
I am going to perform a dethatch once my sun joe arrives from overstock. After completing this whats a cheaper option for a recovery application w/ overseed. I would love to purchase the recovery options you did but I think my wife might leave me if i did haha!
LOL no joke james. It can be spendy for sure. If you're going to overseed at the same time just pickup a 10.10.10 at the local store and apply it at 2 to 3 lbs per 1000 sq ft.
Thanks man!! I appreciate your help! Great education with in-depth Resources but understandable details. Continued to spark my imagination for turf management!
I just stumbled across your channel. It's crazy when you see someone on youtube with an over lapping business that is somewhat close to you. Luckily we are far enough away I dont have to compete with that beard.
Love your videos!! I watch quite a few of them multiple times. I can't help but be curious - have you recently started your own business? I noticed that you are buying a lot of things but you are clearly very experienced. Keep up the great work!
How much water are you recommending they put down? I know you always preach to not over water, so wondering what the ideal amount is in this situation.
I live in titusville fl and the challenge work for me I started late but I put it down in evening and four days later alot of die out hit me up on schedule for application
I live in CT and need to spring seed. But I also want to do pre-emergent. The problem is I have to seed and treat 1 acre. What is the best and safest granular pre-emergent to use when you are spring seeding. I have a well and cannot spray fert. Thanks!
They have a granular mesotrione now. I'm not sure it's available in your area. shareasale.com/m-pr.cfm?merchantid=43235&userid=2147196&productid=760718360&afftrack=
man..... I'm 50/50. I've seen some die out. I have another lawn that the quackgrass is very affected. However, it's not on the label as a targeted weed and I've seen it come back on this lawn full force.
Pest and Lawn Ginja how do you know for sure it’s quack grass? So many of these invasive field grasses look alike in a lawn. Hard to tell unless allowed to seed out, or you send out for analysis.
If you go through a period (2 weeks to a month) where you get a LOT more rain than normal, would you recommend to fertilizer more? Or fertilize less? Thanks for all your help!!
Great question. If the rain is running off the surface j would avoid that week. We still want to pack in micros / miners and secondary primaries. Careful with the nitrates and phosphorus that could potentially leach.
Why? What makes you want to foster this technique as opposed to before ? Would you do this AND aerate ? If so , how soon would you aerate after using green works ? (I assumed you’d use green works first to the plugs stay on the ground :) )
Love the videos, Ginja, keep it up! Question for you... I'm in Chicagoland area, mostly KBG but lots of others mixed in, trying to purify with heavier KBG concentration, and get rid of weed and weedlike grass. I'm following your teanacity program and I dethatched 2 ways with SunJoe (on 0 so heavy duty bc its NEVER been dethatched and was pretty bad. Got 18 leaf bags of thatch on a 15,000 sq ft lawn! Looking a bit bare but i started to scarify on both 5 and 10 and both were basically balding the ground including good grass, which I don't need/want, but i need to overseed. Should I just continue with scarifying (maybe on 0, a shallower setting)? or rent an aerator and do that instead? i see other vids where you aerated instead of scarifying? thanks!
I love the scarifier for a few reasons. ripping through the thatch promotes new healthy growth. it also has leveling / smooting properties to it. I run mine at the -10 level. I scarify two times per season and no longer aerate unless I'm going to put sand over my lawn.
Hi Gina, I re seeded tttf last fall I have weeds that look like quack grass and some of the grass was turning white after putting down tenacity I was afraid to re apply the tenacity because I was thinking I would have alot of bald areas left. Should I re apply to get rid of those weeds?
@@pestandlawnginja I will listen for the improvement. There is so much information you share. As a software developer and paying someone to treat our lawn(not a great experience from a well-marketed company), the knowledge you have can be used with AI/ML to help make it easier for beginners.
Well, I did it about 3 days ago, going to use Tenacity today, wait 2 weeks, then Yard Boss again, Tenacity, and seed. I am hoping that I am not going to run out of time, first frost expected in October.....The goal is to murder the bent grass.
Thanks for the added confidence ! Did you want to see the Stihl MM55 Yard Boss? I am pretty happy with it, but I think your dethatcher is actually better, the Power cord is the only drawback...I don't think your dethatcher was even available at the time I bought my MM55.
I'm going to order some Tenacity today I think, I gotta get a handle on those grassy weeds! BTW, do you have any idea what kind of grass this is in this little patch in my back yard? ruclips.net/video/i-EoKFn27uk/видео.html Previous owners reseeded the area where it was bare from a tiny fenced in dog area they ripped out a few years ago, but the grass type in this little 30x50 area is totally different from the rest of my lawn. I really like it and I'm considering seeding the rest of the lawn with something similar if I can positively identify the grass type. I'm in 5b, so it could be KBG, or fescue probably. @ about 45 seconds in is the "good" grass lol. I've literally done nothing to this since last year, no fert yet and it's super thick and dense. This is what I'd like more of, or I'll just reseed the entire lawn with some quality KBG I haven't really decided yet lol ruclips.net/video/i-EoKFn27uk/видео.html thanks man!
Great question. I went back a few months later and he stopped watering the back yard completely. it was dirt a few months after that. The front yard is doing okay. Ultimately the grass seed i threw down worked great but just like iṽe always said proper watering makes up for 90% of your success. I haven't passed by that property for a long while but i imagine weeds are back with a vengence.

@@GetTheNet1963 🤣🤣🤣🤣 what kind of pest and lawn Ginja do you take me for. Yes. It had the potential to change. It doesnt change for as long as one might think in a 7.5 ph.
What would be the best order to do this entire project if you were also including leveling/ top dressing areas?
I have a series on this subject right now. leveling, tenacity with seed and a starter fert if desired.
Thank you
@@jimfogel873 sure thing Jim!
Could all that debris be from the dieback of the weeds after your fall and spring Tenacity application??
I wish!!!! There were a ton o fweeds. it was crazy. It was mostly from the bad mulch jobs the local mow company was doing.
Great Work. Should we have an update?
I wish. Home owner stopped watering completely and trashed everything. Little frustrating.
@@pestandlawnginja well, At least you get to test Tenacity😜
Good call!
You'll do great James. Keep going!
The ending. Lmao!
👊😂 Glad you saw that!
I work for a company called All Green. They're awesome
@@pestandlawnginja that explains the hats 😎
@@rcronin1 you got it!
I live in Roseburg OR. (zone 7-8) is there a specific time of year that I should be using Tenacity to kill the clover that haunts my lawn.
as you see it! We spot spray throughout the hot months too
How much water are you recommending they put down? I know you always preach to not over water, so wondering what the ideal amount is in this situation.
3 x per day for 3 min. More as it gets warmer. General rule of thumb is the peat moss has to stay damp at all times
Sweet van!
Its plural "Vans" 😂😂😂😂
I need to find a lawn guy like you in Jax Florida
Call pest solutions plus
I live in titusville fl and the challenge work for me I started late but I put it down in evening and four days later alot of die out hit me up on schedule for application
After 2-3 weeks I'm seeing results.
perfect!
Hey dude I'm from Oklahoma and we say mountain the same way as you do lol
That's awesome Larry! Hahaha

@@pestandlawnginja Thanks. I can get this locally.
That's great news
Good information bro
Thanks for watching and commenting!!!
Do you have any current updates on this project?
No. I'll get one. long story short he stopped watering and killed the lawn
Now into july couldnt find any updates on this lawn.
It's true. I haven't done one.
Where is the “ FREE CANDY” sign on that van? Lol
Good call 😂😂😂
Do you think the tenacity will eventually kill the quack grass?.
man.....
Hi Ginja you're the coolest!
Thanks 👊🤩. Love you guys!
Makes sense! Thanks again for all your help!!
I have a green works machine, should that machine be used every season first thing after winter? Just to remove debris during early spring ...?:)
I'm going to be adopting this into my spring and fall practices.
Why? What makes you want to foster this technique as opposed to before ? Would you do this AND aerate ? If so , how soon would you aerate after using green works ? (I assumed you’d use green works first to the plugs stay on the ground :) )
It doesnt disturb the thatch as much as it allows the soil to breath. It picks up litter off the soil surface. Works well and helps the color pop too
Sorry for all the questions!!
So you’d use this, then aerate ?
If I were to aerate yes. I use aeration for soil compaction. If I feel the soils good and the thatch is low I skip it
Where in Utah is this looking for more rural area that is like 30 minutes to creatures comforts
This is right in town believe it or not.
"Chester van "lmao
Ahhh yeah!
At least the homeowner seems cool!
Hes funny
@@pestandlawnginja awesome thanks looking forward to spring vids!
You didn’t mow before the Joe. Looked like it wasn’t complaining.
Only because the lawn was thinned out already due to the excess debris.
Spraing all that chemicals, does home owners have 3 arms and legs?
I wish. that would be super cool
Essentials 1-0-1 at 2oz per 1,000?
4oz to 6oz
Hi Gina, I re seeded tttf last fall I have weeds that look like quack grass and some of the grass was turning white after putting down tenacity I was afraid to re apply the tenacity because I was thinking I would have alot of bald areas left. Should I re apply to get rid of those weeds?
If you seeded last fall and it germinated well then you should be fine to do an herbicide treatment.
Imagine how good that view would be if the mountain wasn't in the way🤦♂️
bahahaha, good call!
Not to take seriously, but the disfluencies! "As you can see," must be the most said phrase on youtube...Your content is great!
Totally agree! I've been trying to work on it. LOL
@@pestandlawnginja I will listen for the improvement. There is so much information you share. As a software developer and paying someone to treat our lawn(not a great experience from a well-marketed company), the knowledge you have can be used with AI/ML to help make it easier for beginners.

did you ever kill that Johnson grass ?
No. Tenacity didnt do much to it
Does tenacity kill spotted spurge weed
It's not labeled for spurge and in my experience it didnt do much to the spurge when I sprayed it. I use tzone for spurge because of the tryclopyr

I use a Stihl Yard boss for raking, then run over it with the lawn mower and bag it.
sounds awesome. I'd love to see that in action
Well, I did it about 3 days ago, going to use Tenacity today, wait 2 weeks, then Yard Boss again, Tenacity, and seed. I am hoping that I am not going to run out of time, first frost expected in October.....The goal is to murder the bent grass.
@@nimrodquimbus912 it's doable

This is what I'd like more of, or I'll just reseed the entire lawn with some quality KBG I haven't really decided yet lol ruclips.net/video/i-EoKFn27uk/видео.html thanks man!
man..... looks similar to the gci turf type tall fescue. hard to tell without being there.
Ginja happened with this lawn? what
Great question.
