I'm a dummy doing lawn work I new home owner this my first year dealing with lawn I found is a not a easy task take a lot time money and hard work keep a nice yard obviously dealing with quimics is another level 🥵 I'm very gland to see a real professional dealing on real field 👍👍👍👍
Tenacity really does work great. My lawn was full of poa and crabgrass when I moved in. I just did two apps two weeks apart and seeded after the second app. Within three weeks after seeding I have a beautiful dark green and weed free lawn. I do have to say that the lawn will look pretty crappy after the first app, since all the weeds will all turn bright white before death. Hopefully the homeowner has patience. Great video, Ginja!
Fingers crossed. I'm interested in seeing how much of a difference it'll really make. That lawn was so full of everything. I think you're right, it'll end up looking like a war zone by the time the herbicide kicks in.
Hi there. I’m a newb when it comes to lawn care so thanks for the great content. Good call on the PPE. I renovated my lawn 3 weeks ago with a similar mix seed. But I did not calibrate my sprayer beforehand. I was planning on applying 4 oz Tenacity per Acre, and then do another follow up app later in the season (my front is only 3.5k ft^2). Well, I changed the nozzle and was shocked when my tank ran dry 1/2 way into the app. So overall I ended up dumping 8 oz of product per A which is max for seeding according to the label, and 1/2 max per year. The grass came up pretty well overall, very negligible amount of weeds, but I did notice a very light swath of whiteness on the new grass in areas where I overlapped. Tenacity works good. Thanks
Not sure how I missed your comment. My apologies. The bleaching is crazy! It does go away eventually in the bluegrass and other cool season grasses. That's the lack of chlorophyl caused by the tenacity. pretty cool process. I'm going to switch it up and do back to back treatments this season.
Came for the info, stayed for the beard. I'm redoing my entire backyard this summer, planning for grass beginning of fall. Hoping it works in the Pacific northwest! Thanks!
Great product! I had an infestation of grassy/broad leaf weeds when I purchased my house in the spring. I finally got 20,000 sq ft all under control by the end of summer with the use of Tenacity. Torched all the nimble will, creeping charlie, quack, crab, nutsedge, dandelion, creeping bentgrass, and splurge. It did require three applications though.
Good to know. How long between each application? I know the label says 3 weeks but on the syngeta video they say not to spray newly germinated seed areas.
I applied every two weeks. Not too sure about newly seeded areas as I didn't use it as a pre-emergent and I didn't overseed until after the final application. I would imagine that after a couple of mows it would be established enough for the final applications. Most of the weeds in my yard were gone after 2nd application but the creeping bentgrass and nimblewill were a real PITA.
Hope he doesn't have sprinklers there, last time you did that without flagging you busted one of your own sprinkler heads. Thanks for spot lighting Tenacity, excited to see the follow up video on progress. Also where was your PPE while you were opening and drawing the Tenacity? A lot of exposures happen during the mixing process. You also forgot to mention the watering question on Tenacity, you water it in for pre-emergent qualities and don't water it for so long and use a non-ionic surfactant for post-emergent application. I love the videos, the content, how you breakdown stuff for average people like me, and the fun you have making the videos. You need to make a t-shirt or hat for the channel!
LOL yah about that....... who needs sprinklers. It is true that tenacity runs both pre and post emergent. You do make a great point about needing to let people know to water it in for the pre emergent aspects and holding off for the post. I let my friend know that he can't water for 12 hours. The interesting part about that is there is no made mention of a rain fast on the label.
Pest and Lawn Ginja love the videos and you showing us this content. Out of curiosity since I have the same backpack sprayer but with the Black & Decker logo from Chapin how does the micro essentials flow through the backpack sprayer? Is it fairly fluid or is it more viscous and chunky?
Great question. It only get chunky if and only if I don't rinse it. The humates have a tendency to coagulate and gum up the pump. If i'm diligent about rinsing it even once a week I don't have those problems. It sits in my hot car most the time and that's what causes most of the problems. As long as you store the essentials 1.0.1 in an area that doesn't get hot the product doesn't get too chunky IMO.
I have some wonderful spot of lawn that I can't get heavy equipment into and already destroyed three manual areators due to heavily compacted soilt hings can be fun. The problem with that kind of clay soil can be that it is really wet, but the particles are so fine that the roots of the lawn can't get it out of there.
I used use calcium every two months to see if you can essentially amend / condition the soil. Watering consistently will also help remedy this issue. It does take time but clay soil has it's upside. It can and does hold a ton of nutrients.
I Aerated and Overseed my entire yard i was looking for a video like this one because I wasn't sure if I can use Tenacity right after but thanks to this video I just order everything off Amazon TENACITY SURFACTANT LIQUID HAVEST LAZER BLUE 2 GALLON SPRAYER MEASURING SPOONS I paid about $140 for everything and I should get every within two weeks I'm sure I can still use all this on my lawn after 3 weeks of seeding and Aerating
winning!!!!! Thanks Ginja. While I may have missed the boat with Tenacity this season (Maybe). I did a full lawn reno ad have a few weeds in the yard. Just ordered some and come early spring it is game on for domination.
@@pestandlawnginja I was freaking out about the bleaching even though I knew it was going to happen. It seemed like it was never going to go away! But it's better than ever these days. Until Weber county cuts my water Oct 1 😳😳😳😭😭😭😭
THIS WAS ONE OF THE COOLEST VIDEOS YOU DID EVER! Love the sense of humor - hysterical loved it!!! That owner dude was perfect!!! Love the way you both tag teamed all the funny bits!! So cool! And most importantly, one of the most educational videos you ever did! You're the best.
That view would be enough for me to forget about the lawn. Have patches of bermuda grass, which my lawn service treated. It turned white for about 2 weeks, then turned green again. It was too late in the season to hit with Roundup, needed to reseed, so I dug it up. If it returns we will give it another shot next summer.
Thanks and I was just about to use Tenacity on my Nimblewill where I'll only need to use a gallon hand spot sprayer for couple small areas. Rest of lawn is well maintained Tall Fescue. My local guy told me to do 1 application and another final one in 2 weeks. Any additional feedback would be much appreciated!!
Dear red-tinted Oracle of greenspaces, My take-aways so far from your channel are 1) too much thatch is bad, 2) too much water can be bad, 3) too little water is bad, 4) soil should be as uncompacted as conditions allow, and 5) micronutrients help. At some point could you talk about what to look for in a sprinkler system and installer/maintainer? You've seen your share of systems, surely you have some thoughts on the matter. I look forward to every video, keep up the great work.
Calibrate? I believe Allen Iverson once said, "Calibrate, who needs Calibrate!" Or maybe it was about Practice! Ok, I guess I better start calibrating more often....I got it.. Your buddy did a good job of participating. This has to be your most light hearted vid. keep it up. On a serious note I have Bermuda grass but your guidance has helped me to decipher my issues. Great vid as always.
Appreciate the class on tenacity. I’m in Mobile Al and I got frustrated and started pulling weeds and now I have these ugly holes in the grass. Don’t think I need a soil test due to the beautiful green grass surrounding the hole in the grass. Question? Should I add soil? Seed? Or just check for new growth. The weeds came because I cut the grass super low for winter (recommended by those in the north, and all that thatch clogged the growth and caused all kinds of problems. Weeds , and in some spots dead. Help!!!!
This was interesting, I was under the impression i had to put the tenacity down and then wait a couple of weeks before even starting the overseeding process
Thank you Ginja for sharing your knowledge. The videos are clear and easy to follow. One question I have is if after the first light frost I can still aerate my lawn? They called it in the weather report the first frost bite. Temps here are going to be around 52 during the day but will drop at night to high 30s.
I used Tenacity they way you showed us with a blue dye but by the time I was done the blue dye made me into a Poppa Smurf. What A mess. I hope it works so far it looks like it is. Thanks
We have the same sprayer. Friday I called Chapin. The battery quit charging. They told me to not leave the battery on the sprayer but store it on the charger. They're sending me a new one free. Had this sprayer 98 days. Just FYI. Beautiful property. Awesome views. Awesome beard. Wife tells me to grow one but it will never look as awesome as yours. #beardenvy
Interesting. Glad they were warranting it. That's a relief. I never store the battery on the charger. I am diligent to turning the unit off after every use
@@pestandlawnginja I was actually surprised they told me not to leave it on the sprayer and connect to the charger because their charger is a maintenance charger. But hey, they're making it right by sending me a free battery so I'm happy.
I plan on doing this same process with my weed ridden lawn... However, I planned to do an application of tenacity about a week or two prior to overseeding, then give the seeds two weeks or so, then apply a second (and third if needed) application of tenacity. Is it wrong to preemptively try to kill out some of the weeds prior to seeding? Will this stunt/deform the seed growth/germination somehow? Plan: Week 1: A good rake, Tenacity/Speedzone... Week 2-2.5: Aerate/Starter Fertilizer (11.11.11)... Week 3: Overseed... Week 5: Tenacity/Speedzone/Essential Organic 1-0-1... Rest of Summer/Fall: Mow Mow Mow
Hey Kevin. Appreciate the comment. No excuses for lack of ppe. Couple of things. The syringe that is supplied is difficult to use. Also the toxicity on tenacity is shockingly low. Check the msds you'll be surprised.
Just did my first treatment of Tenacity, Non Ionic Surfactant, Essentials Plus and seed. For my next treatment in 2 weeks, do i use all three items again?
That's funny. I get your point. I have a tendency to edit things when the volume on my computer is low. At low volumes it sounds fine to me but as soon as I turn it up it gets worse hahaha. Lesson learned.
That's just how I roll tyler krug! It's pretty common in our industry. It's always best to perform a compatibility test before putting chemicals together.
After you sprayed Tenacity on the lawn, how long did you wait before watering the lawn? I was a little confused about when to start watering after applying Tenacity because I didn’t want the solution to wash off, but it sounds like Tenacity needs to soak up through the roots versus other weed killers that work more like a topical treatment. Please advise! Thank you.
The pros are simple, it has the potential to look awesome. The cons are you have to mow 3 times a week and buy a ridiculously expensive mower. You also get to spend a lot more money on lawn care products to keep the lawn happy.
Excellent video Ginja. Thanks for your wisdom. I’m new to lawn care and I need some guidance. I’m in CT and It’s already the end of September. I’m not sure if I’m a little late. My lawn has a good amount of weeds ( crabgrass, ground ivy, etc.) I have Kentucky blue grass. Temperature here is between 61- 72. I was thinking on applying tenacity and then over-seed but I’m not sure if using tenacity only one time will be enough to get rid of the weeds or maybe I’ll need a second application. I want to over-seed my lawn but I’d also like to get rid of the weeds. can I do both at the same time? Or which should I prioritize first? Thanks!
just like in the video i prefer to do one app tenacity plus weed killer like speedzone / tzone. then 2 weeks later tenacity and drop the seed. you do lose time. so if you don't have the time do the one app.
I really appreciate the videos! When you say water that many times a day, how much water are you putting down each time? Just enough to keep everything damp? I’m running my zones for 5 minutes each 2-3 times a day. It’s about 70 degrees here. Hope that’s enough. Thanks again!
The point is to keep the seed to soil contact moist. If it dries the seed germination will stop and it will die. Every sprinkler system is slightly different and will require more or less time. As a general rule daily watering several times per day low increments
Ginja, I'm also in Orem. Your homeowner in this video is quite the character (for real as I know him) Ask him about the theater security guy at Univ. Mall (Cinemark) I ought to have you come do a check on my yard to see how badly I'm doing. Also, I prefer my goatee over a full beard, itches to much otherwise. I couldn't stop laughing when the homeowner came into the shot.
So your video is the first one I've seen where the seed is put down first and then the use of tenacity. It's my understanding that tenacity creates a barrier that doesn't allow seeds to grab hold and germinate. So I guess my question is, how does the grass seed grow then? My other question is in regards to the Essentials plus. Can you explain again why this is added to the tenacity mixture? Sorry if you mentioned this in the video. My yard is beyond ugly. LARGE backyard that used to be a field full of anything but grass.
Hi Christine! Tenacity is a selective pre emergent. kills other weed seeds but not a select few of grass types that are listed on the label. I added the essentials plus because his grass was super stressed out. the humic and sea kelp really help give it a boost. Essentials is very expensive per 1000 sq ft and its not necessary
Hey Ginga! Love your videos, you've inspired me to redo my lawn. I thatched my lawn and plan to aerate and overseed this weekend. I was going to throw down a cocktail of tenacity, essentials 101, great white mycorrhizae, Scotts starter fert (24-25-4), topped off with local compost. will that be too much for the lawn?
Im doing my lawn now almost same way a few different products glad i found your video so glad. I was going to spray Tenacity first then put my seeds, dirt and fertilizer down does this seem correct?
I love ur video but I have a question. I live in northern Ontario, and to top off the fact that I only really have 3 solid months of growth, I bought a house where the lawn has been compacted over years from having a ice rink in their backyard. I’ve aerated, over seeded, fertilized for two years now with minimal changes. I’m curious to know what your opinion is. Would it be redeemable or should I simply till up my lawn and start anew.
how come you didn't just put all bluegrass when overseeding? as well is a 6-24-24 fertilizer a good bet when overseeding and for spring/fall fertilizing? my local landscaping supply recommended it over 25-5-10
The high contents of phosphorus and potassium are great. The nitrogen is what I'm worried about that can possibly effect the seed. My local region has naturally occurring phosphorus in the soil. Such a high content isn't necessary imo.
Hi Ginja. I am from East Cost... I have a problem during your sprayer calibration part... You mentioned that for the calibration you spayed 1,000 sf and measured "how long it takes to successfully spray" following by measuring the output of the sprayer for the same time... The thing I am confuse about how to select the settings on the spray... The reason that I got confused because I have seen you recommended sprayer settings in some other videos. Thanks.
Found your videos and they are great. Just getting started on entire process as spelled out in this vid. Have a hard time finding MaxPak here in Indiana. Any suggestions on an alternative on Amazon or another store we might have here? Thank you for the information, I feel like it’s going to be a great challenge and excited to see the results of tenacity.
Ginja I thought I saw in one of your videos that after you put down starter fertilizer, aerate then overseed you applied another fertilizer a few weeks later? Is that correct and if so what is that second fertilizer and how long after initial seeding do you apply? I aerated and overseed a few weeks ago and I'm seeing the new seedlings start to pop up here in Ohio but want to make sure I'm not missing anything.
Hey Timothy. I'm wracking my brain trying to think if that was said or how it was said. If memory serves me right.... which it may not, I have only on a few occasions used grass seed in the video. There is an overseed for dummies video and episode one of the tenacity challenge. I do not recommend any additional fertilizer or herbicide until the seed is established. The term established will always depend on the seed. A general overseed macro based granular fertilizer would be a 10.10.10 on up to an 12.12.12 IMO. I would not go higher than 2.5lbs per 1000ft2 to keep the nitrogen content down. I apply these rates every 6 weeks for newly seeded lawns. After 90 days I go back to my normal routine.
Question: I power raked and over seeded in the fall. Can I aerate here soon in the spring or is it a bad idea with with fresh seed from the fall? (new property. Was an old lady house. Lots of moss on the lawn, New England climate)
It's all preference. If you feel you got sufficient growth and seed germination than go for it. I prefer to wait a year but if you have drainage issues you gotta do what you gotta do. You can also throw more seed down after the aeration.
It wouldn't be a bad idea to repeat the process in the spring time. The focus is to get the grass as thick as possible to naturally pushout a lot of the weed activity. As long as he waters properly we should be doing pretty good.
Hey Buka. That happens. My neighbor had that happen. Took about a year to condition the soil so the grass would grow properly. It can be done. Keep working at it.
Pest and Lawn Ginja thanks for the reply I really enjoy your videos. What can I do if the sod has caused the leveling to be higher than the surrounding concrete?
Great videos, thanks for putting these out. I have always used the Scotts step 1-4 bags on my lawn and called it a day. -- Along with Weed-b-Gone when I found weeds. Is there a schedule to follow regarding putting fertilizer down. ie.. What do I put down in the Spring, Summer, Fall and Winter.. Any guidance would be appreciated. Thanks
The overall general rule is to use 4lbs of nitrogen and up to 2lbs of potassium per season. I personally feel this is an ok way of doing it. I dial mine in much more because I know what's in my local soil. The best thing you can do is send your soil samples into a lab like mysoil and have it tested. then you can really get the answer you're looking for.
The rhizomatous Tall Fescue has been around for a long time. It's popularity died after people discovered its rhizomes didn't move laterally like bluegrass. Barenbrug makes claims that their blend indeed has lateral rhizome movement and classifies it as self repairing. I like the grass. They don't endorse me to say that.
Wow, just found your videos.. Awesome!! I have found other resources that are great(LCN). But you are right up the road from me. Is it to late to seed all of my bare spots? I got a late start to trying to save my yard and want it to be as good as I can get it come spring.
Pest and Lawn Ginja , aerated today seed starter feet tomorrow. Thanks for the advice! Been spending my brake and lunch watching all your videos trying to get caught up.
Would this same process work with Zoysia in zone 9b? The Scotts starter and Essentials seem to be be universal unless there is some other step for patchy, dry perennial grass with annual weeds.
Great question Jeff!!! I used the rtf tall fescue and did a 70% fescue to 30% blue. Had my friend not had fescue already in the lawn I would have used 100% blue. I just know how he forgets to water the lawn so I wanted to try the rtf out and see how drought tolerant it might be. Stick with a blue / rye blend. It mixes better too.
Why didn't you use a fantip nozzle for your application? I pretty much never use the brass tip unless I'm applying insecticide around the house or spot spraying specific weeds. Also have you had any leaking problems from the Chapin? It seems that after about a year the battery operated ones start to leak. I've personally switched to the sprayer's plus family and so far love my 2gal and 4-gal backpack sprayers (the backpack is way more comfortable compared to the chap!)
Great Question. I'm not a fan of the fan tip on this backpack sprayer because I don't feel I get enough liquid coming out of the tip. I found for me the fan tip nozzle would cause too much product to mist and evaporate. I have experienced leaking from this backpack. I took the bottom plastic off and found the hose clamp was loose. I tightened it and haven't had a problem since. This backpack sprayer has a life span, that's for sure. If I use it heavily, 20 services a day for 5 weeks, the pump goes out. It's great for residential use. To prolong the life span I suggest rinsing it out after every use. I'll have to try the sprayer you're using. Sounds great.
I started having linking from the rim, the hose and the wand attachment before I finally threw in the towel, I'm pretty meticulous with my lawn product maintenance. (I will say this, the electric sprayers are a lot easier to clean, I just stick the nozzle in the open container while washing and let it run to clean everything out. The sparyer's Plus comes with 3 nozzles, the brass, the yellow fan, and the blue fan for the smaller sprayer, and I find the yellow fan to be perfect. Combine that with the surfactant and I can't say I've had any problems with weeds resisting past a second application. You do still need a bit of an overlap with a fan tip though when doing a pre-em application, but in my experience it's been less than 1/4th of the spray pattern as opposed to a 50% overlap which greatly speeds up the application process.
My lawn is beautifully green... BUT it is 70% crabgrass. So, if I treat with Tenacity (per instructions) I will kill 70% of my lawn. My question is. How long after treating with Tenacity can I over-seed and fertilize and should I use starter fertilizer in this case?
you can seed same day with tenacity only treatments. I prefer to do two treatments back to back within 2 weeks. the first one I use a combo of tenacity and speedzone and the second one tenacity only. starter fert will depend on what's already in your native soil. I would go at the high rate on the fertilizer bag and put it down two weeks earlier.
personally i would do fescue or bluegrass. takes more water but you'll have an all year around grass. Other than that bermuda, zoysia, centipede, and bahia are your choices.
Nice and helpful video, esp for a rookie like me. Just one question: is there a mix proportion for Barenburg Kentucky Bluegrass and RTF that you would recommend? Thanks
I commonly don't like to mix those together. this case was special since he already had that kind of mixture. I did a 70% fescue 30% blue because the seed is much smaller in the bluegrass. That gave me a 50/50 blend.
Hey Ginja, excellent vid! Question for you: when do you recommend using Quinclorac vs Mesotrione for an post emergent herbacide? I live in rural New Mexico, using a park blend of mostly Fescue. Lawn is new this year, from seed, and got hit HEAVY with crabgrass and a few other unidentified weeds.
If you are not overseeding you don't need to use mesotrione. mesotrione doesn't last long as a pre emergent and it's very expensive to use as a post emergent. It's about 1.48c per 1000 sq ft. when prodiamine and dithiopyr ranges .40 to 90c per 1000 sq ft and lasts 3 x longer.
Hey Ginja, I came late to your video. I used tenacity and looks like I did it wrong. How long would it take the grass to come back? I am planning on overseeing and hope I can get some grass back
depends. sounds like you may have over applied. if everything went white it'll be a few weeks before it springs back to life. you can try forcing some growth using fertilizer but be sure your sprinklers are properly covering before hand to ensure you don't burn with fertilizer.
Question? Is dylox safe for new grass, I renovated my lawn one month ago, grubs killed most of my new grass 3 weeks after germination, so I put down dylox and removed about 3 gallons of grubs, reseeded my lawn one week ago, have germination two days ago, and now I see grub holes/crumbled dirt mounds, not many but I have them verified by me digging around one and found a grub, he was shallow, like two inches, maybe I didn’t get them all first go around, just wanna get ahead of it/them
Your dylox application IMO was a little pre mature but I don't think it'll matter in the end. Sounds like you're dealing with Japanese beetles. Super frustrating. Lookup your local extension to the agricultural department for life cycle information on the grubs in your area. It's a great tool to use.
It's not recommended. however, IMO i don't feel it'll harm the seed. I would try using a biologic if you're worried, like milky spore. Be sure to read the label. This is a biologic and non invasive. www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00AEBIURU/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=9325&creativeASIN=B00AEBIURU&linkCode=as2&tag=pestandlawngi-20&linkId=4c3fd97afddc2f0859e11911f8782785
I just got around to detaching my lawn and then put down my Scott's Fall turfbuilder weed and feed...Im in NE...how soon can I fall overseed? or am I too late?

Thanks! You’ll get there. Few basic rules to follow and in no time you’ll slay that lawn
The math was not as complicated as the other lawn care nut guys make to be! You kept it simple, very good video!!
Perfect! I always cross my fingers I don't over complicate things
This keeps getting better each episode!
Thank you! Doing my best

Most people are laymen when it comes to yard maintenance. I would appreciate a very very basic explanation. thanks .😊
Awesome. I’ll get right on that
You are spoiling us with 2 videos this weekend
Hahaha. Spoiled for sure. Sometimes you gotta do two
Came for the info, stayed for the beard. I'm redoing my entire backyard this summer, planning for grass beginning of fall. Hoping it works in the Pacific northwest!
Thanks!
Nice! Great to have you! Thanks for the comment and watching the video. This is all relevant content for the pacific northwest
Dude, you rock! You are the best lawn guy on RUclips!
Huge compliment. Thank you
Great product!
@@rob0619 that's a solid game plan.
@@rob0619 did you apply every two weeks on the whole lawn or just on spots you missed?
Awesome video Ginja 🙌. Can’t wait to see the progress on this project !
Me too, fingers crossed
GINJA, great video. Best views of any lawn care video.

I Aerated and Overseed my entire yard i was looking for a video like this one because I wasn't sure if I can use Tenacity right after but thanks to this video I just order everything off Amazon
TENACITY
SURFACTANT
LIQUID HAVEST LAZER BLUE
2 GALLON SPRAYER
MEASURING SPOONS
I paid about $140 for everything and I should get every within two weeks I'm sure I can still use all this on my lawn after 3 weeks of seeding and Aerating
Nice! You'll do great. Be sure to read the label
winning!!!!! Thanks Ginja. While I may have missed the boat with Tenacity this season (Maybe). I did a full lawn reno ad have a few weeds in the yard. Just ordered some and come early spring it is game on for domination.

Great video, thank you. I didn't know you could spray a weed killer when you seed. Tenacity
Tenacity will do it. It's selective to a few perrenial grass types.
I'm digging this format! I just filmed a video with it like 2 weeks ago and the bleaching is finally gone now! Great stuff Ginja!

Cool Rick. Sounds like you have it under control. That view is pretty awesome.
Excellent work! Helpful! Wish to see results of your work after couple of weeks!
There's an entire playlist of my work
Thanks and I was just about to use Tenacity on my Nimblewill where I'll only need to use a gallon hand spot sprayer for couple small areas. Rest of lawn is well maintained Tall Fescue. My local guy told me to do 1 application and another final one in 2 weeks. Any additional feedback would be much appreciated!!
Spot spraying is always a great way to go about it. Especially if the rest of the lawn is nice and thick.
Dear red-tinted Oracle of greenspaces,
My take-aways so far from your channel are 1) too much thatch is bad, 2) too much water can be bad, 3) too little water is bad, 4) soil should be as uncompacted as conditions allow, and 5) micronutrients help. At some point could you talk about what to look for in a sprinkler system and installer/maintainer? You've seen your share of systems, surely you have some thoughts on the matter. I look forward to every video, keep up the great work.
Great comment nathan. To answer your sprinkler question it's in the works. The gist is all sprinkler systems can work. It's all about coverage.
Great view in that back yard. I will check out your work when I drive by there every Friday ha ha

Good Video as always my man. I've used tenacity a few times, and it works really well.
I'm excited to see how it goes!
Help!!!!
Check out my playlist "this is my lawn"
This was interesting, I was under the impression i had to put the tenacity down and then wait a couple of weeks before even starting the overseeding process
its a pretty great product considering you can seed the same day. just keep in mind the life of tenacity as a pre emergent is 3 weeks max.
Thank you Ginja for sharing your knowledge. The videos are clear and easy to follow. One question I have is if after the first light frost I can still aerate my lawn? They called it in the weather report the first frost bite. Temps here are going to be around 52 during the day but will drop at night to high 30s.
Perfect time to aerate a lawn! I wouldn't do the overseed but aeration is fine.
Love the vids man! Appreciate all the incite. Keep the goods rollin👍🏼

Hey Bro...You should try walking backward when spraying..much safer and you wont track the stuff on clothes and shoes. Just a thought.
I do the backwards walk often if I accidentally forget my water proof work boots.
I used Tenacity they way you showed us with a blue dye but by the time I was done the blue dye made me into a Poppa Smurf. What A mess. I hope it works so far it looks like it is. Thanks
Sounds like you did a great job if you smurfed it up! Let me know how it goes.

Mine never leaves the sprayer because I'm always using it. I don't get the point of leaving it on the charger.

Question: spray, wait how many days before it turns white (dead?) then what? Pull the white or rake it? Reseed the white area?
It's a great plan. One of the things I mention in this series is if I could go back I would do 2 treatments prior to seeding
No PPE/gloves when mixing the tenacity? That thickness made me extra paranoid since it’s so potent. Great video, looking forward to see the results!

That's just how I roll tyler krug! It's pretty common in our industry. It's always best to perform a compatibility test before putting chemicals together.
After you sprayed Tenacity on the lawn, how long did you wait before watering the lawn? I was a little confused about when to start watering after applying Tenacity because I didn’t want the solution to wash off, but it sounds like Tenacity needs to soak up through the roots versus other weed killers that work more like a topical treatment. Please advise! Thank you.
i waited 4 to 6 hours then watered .25".
Another great video... Watching from NZ ( science behind it all :) )
My man! Thanks for the comment. Happy to know I have a fan in NZ!
What is up with super short cool season grass , like 1 inch short, like pros and cons from your experience
Non-ionic surfactant? Dang. Learn something new every day!
Love it!
Hes great! Gotta love the mountains here.
Good stuff! Thanks for all the great info!
Appreciate it Jay. That was a big project.
Naw man. Sounds like a good plan

Crabgrass! It's taking over my yard. What can I do to stop it from happening next season?
thicken up the lawn, fix sprinkler coverage and apply a pre emergent at the right time of the year.

These are all great questions. Visuals are better. Send me some pics on my Facebook page.
how come you didn't just put all bluegrass when overseeding? as well is a 6-24-24 fertilizer a good bet when overseeding and for spring/fall fertilizing? my local landscaping supply recommended it over 25-5-10
The high contents of phosphorus and potassium are great. The nitrogen is what I'm worried about that can possibly effect the seed. My local region has naturally occurring phosphorus in the soil. Such a high content isn't necessary imo.
Hi Ginja.
I am from East Cost... I have a problem during your sprayer calibration part...
You mentioned that for the calibration you spayed 1,000 sf and measured "how long it takes to successfully spray"
following by measuring the output of the sprayer for the same time...
The thing I am confuse about how to select the settings on the spray...
The reason that I got confused because I have seen you recommended sprayer settings in some other videos.
Thanks.
In this video i chose a cone spray pattern that would spray sufficiently from left to right. not too much not too little. an even pattern.
Found your videos and they are great. Just getting started on entire process as spelled out in this vid. Have a hard time finding MaxPak here in Indiana. Any suggestions on an alternative on Amazon or another store we might have here? Thank you for the information, I feel like it’s going to be a great challenge and excited to see the results of tenacity.
checkout greenecountyfert.com and look at there microgreen
Will you repeat this process in the spring? If not, how will you change it up? Does it hurt to aerate in the fall AND spring?
It wouldn't be a bad idea to repeat the process in the spring time. The focus is to get the grass as thick as possible to naturally pushout a lot of the weed activity. As long as he waters properly we should be doing pretty good.
I have a nice soil the only bad part is the crappy soil that was in the sod that was laid down
Beginner question. Rhizomatic tall fescue. Is this new/rare. Any recommendations.

Would this same process work with Zoysia in zone 9b? The Scotts starter and Essentials seem to be be universal unless there is some other step for patchy, dry perennial grass with annual weeds.
Unfortunately zoysia is not on the list for acceptable grasses to treat
I overseed my lawn back in mid September and I live in Michigan can you still use tenacity these days temperature
when ground temps get below 40 permanently its hit or miss. most of your seed germination will occur at 55 degrees ground temps.
Great video! Do you know if there is a blended mix of tttf and kbg similar to what you used?
That is definitely the downside to overlapping. Kills you on time. I like it because I'm used to it since I do it on a daily
Yes can you add tenacity after seeding can you put anything with it
I only recommend adding micro nutrients if you're going to overseed the same day.
Great job as always. Thanks from Louisville,Ky
Thanks Scott! Hope to one day be on the lawns in Kentucky!
My lawn is beautifully green... BUT it is 70% crabgrass. So, if I
treat with Tenacity (per instructions) I will kill 70% of my lawn. My
question is. How long after treating with Tenacity can I over-seed and
fertilize and should I use starter fertilizer in this case?
you can seed same day with tenacity only treatments. I prefer to do two treatments back to back within 2 weeks. the first one I use a combo of tenacity and speedzone and the second one tenacity only. starter fert will depend on what's already in your native soil. I would go at the high rate on the fertilizer bag and put it down two weeks earlier.
What is good grass for hot southern CA? Is Bermuda really my only choice, especially if I don't want to spend tons of money on water?
personally i would do fescue or bluegrass. takes more water but you'll have an all year around grass. Other than that bermuda, zoysia, centipede, and bahia are your choices.
Can you use Tenacity in a hose end sprayer, like Ortho's?
absolutely. Follow my guide in the video for calibration.
So was it in Australia or New Zealand? The tenacity!
Do you have a post treatment video of this area?
all the videos are in the playlist.

I'm not too sure. I would check the active ingredients on the bottle. if they both say mesotrione and the percentages are the same its all the same.
@@pestandlawnginja Thanks 👍👍
So it safe for new grass,,,seedlings tttf
I’ll take that as a yes, I wanna get rid of these grubs and give my new seedlings a chance to root before winter
It's not recommended. however, IMO i don't feel it'll harm the seed. I would try using a biologic if you're worried, like milky spore. Be sure to read the label. This is a biologic and non invasive.

the biggest problem I see the majority having is poa annua and trivialis. does this work on the early stages of either in the fall?
It's not a long lasting pre emergent. If you monitored your ground temps and got it down when they're steadily at 55 degrees it will work beautifully
Maybe edit and release the Cliff Notes version where you get to the main points quicker.
check the description of the video
Which herbicide and Pre-em you use for your beard? its weed free :) and quite long
Old abe beard co. Best beard pre m around and court McGee approved
I just got around to detaching my lawn and then put down my Scott's Fall turfbuilder weed and feed...Im in NE...how soon can I fall overseed? or am I too late?
you can seed anytime. even over winter. the difference is when the seed germinates and pops up to say hello.
Ginja, Do you just leave the dead weeds or remove them after tenacity aps?
I'm lazy.... I just leave them. eventually they get crowded out by the grass
Sweet. Im with you on the lazy part. Thanks Ginja.
Planning on putting down some Milorganite, how long should I wait for Tenacity with Speedzone application?
You can do it at the same time
Thanks!!!
