That was well presented! I used "Tenacity" on my cool season type lawn last fall to kill creeping bent grass. It required three applications 2 to 3 weeks apart and it's one of the only selective herbicides that targets bent grass in an existing lawn.
I used Tenacity for the first time a week ago today. All of my weeds are a nice pale yellow about to turn white. Sure it's ugly, but I get the sense of satisfaction that they're on their way out.
I am all for herbicides that are effective, outside of using this during seeding, I have no had the greatest of luck with Tenacity. Thanks for watching, I appreciate your kind words!
Tryclopyr hits more of the targets im interested in better. I used tenacity before reseeding kbg three weeks ago. It definitely helped against the chickweed, dandelions, clover infestation, and somewhat the wild violet, but didn't slow the quackgrass down even a little bit. When the bottle runs out, will i buy another? Maybe for chickweed control which it works fairly well on.
Tell me your thoughts about my applying Tenacity to my established lawn, but I'm wanting to first rid the bent and fescue and then power (slit seeding) slit seed with Kentucky Blue. I'm not worrying about the bleaching look as I'm planning to apply it now, in the beginning of September, then in about 2-3 weeks do the power seeding.
I would have to double check the label to be sure, but I believe if you don't spray it at the time of seeding, you would need to wait at least 4 weeks after application to seed to ensure proper germination - check the label to be sure. The only fescue it has an impact on is fine fescue, if you have regular tall fescue it should not kill that. I have had success with Tenacity on bentgrass though. If you apply the herbicide and wait the appropriate time after application to seed, it should be just fine - just ensure you can get the KBG germinated and matured before the first frost. Thanks for watching!
I have issues with creeping Bent Grass and Tenacity is what a golf course superintendent recommended as the best way to deal with Bent Grass. Tenacity also works great on crab grass. Beyond that I use other products for weeds.
@@TheLawnLover absolutely agree. I wouldn't limit myself to Tenacity either. Heck if I knew a better way to selectively kill bent grass I'd use it. Thanks for the videos.
After 2 rounds of generic Tenacity it has killed the crabgrass but only about half of the clover, I am wondering if the generic is less efficient. I have over seeded and am reluctant to go a 3rd round. Suggestions welcome, used Jonathan Green fall mix
The generic should be the same potency as the name brand. If you are having issues with clover and still want to use tenacity, try out sublime herbicide. It is a mix of mesotrione (tenacity), triclopyr, and dicamba. That mix should defintely nuke the clover. You can also use a product like Triclopyr ester for clover if you are having issues with that to get rid of it. Good luck!
I only use Tenacity for bentgrass and nimblewill. It was the only thing I found that would kill it without harming my TTTF. You need to apply it 3 times. I usually do 1 blanket spray, which will cause the bentgrass patches to turn white, then follow up with spot spraying for the other 2 apps. Seems to work ok for me.
I have used Tenacity ever since it first came out commercially. I have one of the nicest KBG lawns anywhere. The lawn care professionals all come to me for advice. They call my lawn sod quality and Golf course quality.sure you get the bleaching effect. If you use it in late April or early May by June the white is gone. The main reason that I really like Tenacity is that it takes out the weed grass like poa anna and poa triv without harming the KBG.its a little harder to get rid of the Poa Triv. Last year I tried scorched earth with Round up never again. It took most of the summer to reestablish a pure KGB in the spots that had poa triv. Most of the time the nondesireable grass will be mixed in with The KBG. In other words you don't have to reseed the KBG as it will fill in if there is any thinness after killing the unwanted grass.By the second week in June all is well once again.
I would suggest checking out Sublime - it is a mixture of mesotrione, and they also include some triclopyr and dicamba in the mix, but given the unique mixture, you can get the benefits of tenacity without the bleaching. I confirmed with the product rep at Prime Source (manufacturer of Sublime), this product has ZERO bleaching. Thanks for watching!
I thought one of the benefits to using Tenacity was that it was non-toxic to both humans and pets? Sure, there are likely other more effective treatments, but if you're worried about toxicity or are someone who has concerns about carcinogenic herbicides leeching into their well-water supply (my situation), then what other options do you have? I've tried limonene, vinegar, and other natural oil based approaches without great results.
While Tenacity has a "reduced-risk" status from the EPA, it is still a herbicide. It really comes down to your comfort level and your target weeds when it comes to choosing an effective herbicide. Tenacity still has it's benefits (using at seeding, bentgrass), but I personally would rather make one application of a product that zaps the weeds instead of repeat herbicide applications of Tenacity that does not always fully kill the weeds. At the end of the day this comes down to preference and needs. The point of my video was the fact that many people claim that Tenacity is the "best herbicide ever invented", I am just pointing out that people may need to broaden their horizons when it comes to herbicide needs - especially when I get feedback from people that say they keep applying tenacity monthly to target their weeds. Sorry for the long winded response, just trying to be helpful. Thank you for watching and for your insightful questions!
I gotta say that im doubting ill get anywhere with my yards because all of you guys are legends in your own minds and self-appointed lawnsmiths here and i cant take it anymore MY HEAD IS SPINNIN FROM ALL OF YOU GUYS AND EVERYBODY'S OWN SECRET RECIPE FOR A :GREAT LAWN"!!!! EVEN AS AN ANIMAL LOVER I WANTED TO ROAST THE BIRDS WITH A FLAME-THROWER!!!! NOBODY'S VIDEO HAS HELPED ME IN ANY WAY BECAUSE EVERYBODY HAS SOMETHING DIFFERENT TO SAY!!!!😢
It's sounds to me that you are trying to do way too much. I always recommend people to start with a soil test and focus on correcting their ph if needed and micronutrients (NPK). You have a choice to keep it simple or to go down the rabbit hole of making things super expensive and complicated. I always recommend keeping it simple. Good luck with your lawn and thanks for watching!
My sentiment exactly. I laughed so hard reading your comment. I feel your pain, i've felt the pain. Suggestion from a plain 'ol guy; Break open a bag of black earth, or potting mix, let it dry in the sun on a tarp. Sparingly hand spread this dried earth to sligthtly cover your seeds. This will reduce or eliminate your bird issues and, it helps keep the seeds cooler and hold humidity between waterings. You can use peat moss also (way easier to spread if you sun dry it, and you will use less) but make sure to really water it in because the peat will absord lots of water before it saturates. Once wet, peat moss stays wet longer. Keep watering religiously 3 times a day (never at night) until you see germination, then you can move to two waterings per day. This method allowed me to grow new grass in July 2020 during a record breaking heat wave...
I was the same way, but I finally found one guy (Mr. Ferguson) that was easy to understand and started out as a rookie with an ugly yard but is now beautiful I also settled on one type seed (Jonathan Green). I started out on my back yard this fall and within 1 month my yard looks really good and green. It can drive you nuts trying to follow everyone. The most important thing I've learned so far is the seed. I was buying seed at local coop and its full of weeds and doesn't green up like quality seed does.

I’m totally new to working on my lawn. I didn’t kill any weeds when I started my tall fescue lawn last fall from scratch. And I didn’t use any pre emergent earlier this year. It looks good but there are a lot of weeds growing where I want it to be all tall fescue. And I think the weeds choked a lot of the fescue out. I’m going to over-seed soon….so do I spray the tenacity and then over-seed? If so, after the tenacity works, how do I get the dead weeds out of the way that will be mixed in with the new grass that I’ll get from over-seeding? Because I’m guessing the new grass won’t be ready to be mowed for a while. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
You can apply the tenacity the same time you overseed. Some weeds will sprout but you will see them they will turn white and kind of wilt down. Once your new grass is fully established you can eliminate any weeds with a regular selective herbicide. Good luck!
Hi i have a question. I am trying to get rid of creeping bent grass, a lot of clovers also. What would be a great product to get my lawn back? I sure could use some advice. I live in the upper Midwest. Thank you.
I have had success with Tenacity on bentgrass in my cool season lawn, but it did take multiple apps. I think it is a good option for bentgrass, but as far as clover goes, triclopyr works fantastic. If that is what your targeting, look into Sublime Herbicide. It contains mesotrione (tenacity), triclopyr, and dicamba - it should really help give you a strong defense against the bentgrass and clover with one product. Thanks for watching and good luck!
I’m sure you’ve heard the combo of speedzone and tenacity. Would the combination of triad select and speedzone be doubling up on any active ingredients or possibly too potent?
I would say that mix would too potent since they both contain 24D and Dicamba. I would stick with one or the other, but not both at the same time. Thanks for watching!
I have seen various sources saying do not use on Bermuda grass. I live in Oklahoma and have used it for the past two years with great results. The only issue I have is I have to put down another application 10 - 12 weeks later. The bleaching effect does last about three weeks. I will try your recommendation and see how long it lasts. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.
I’m trying to use tenacity to do away with my rogue Zoysa grass in my TTF lawn here in Central Indiana. Not very optimistic that it’s actually going to do the job. Ron said it was questionable, but I’m gonna keep after it every two weeks.
I'm not well versed in warm season grasses, I would direct you to someone like my friends Bermuda Grass Central or the Lawn Care Nut or better advice on that. Thanks for watching!
I agree with your assessment and using it primarily for bare soil seeding. It also can be mixed with certain herbicides at lower rates effectively (without bleaching) for post emergent control.
Absolutely! You wouldn't believe how many people have came after me when I posted the sublime video saying tenacity is the best standalone herbicide ever. That was mainly the point of this video haha Thanks for watching!
Totally get where you're coming from. I tried tenacity to the letter and still had some tough weeds laughing at me. So, I think it's not cool to knock someone for trying something else. There are so many things that can affect how well a product works. It's always great to hear about other ways of doing things and the options out there. Thanks for the insight!
Tenacity is the only herbicide (that I know of) that you can use at the time of seeding an not inhibit seed germination. I typically advise people to use tenacity when seeding bare dirt to help limit weeds from sprouting during the germination process. When overseeding, there should not be that big of a need for it in most cases. This will ultimately come down to preference and need, everyone's situation is different. Thanks for watching!
That's great that it works well for you. I can't stand the bleached look that it leaves and I never had great success with it killing what I was targeting. Thanks for watching 🙌
@@delrayharris6583 The bleaching only lasts a couple of weeks. I've used tenacity for 2 years now, applying once or twice a season, and it was essential in keeping down weeds in a challenging area. My lawn looks so thick and rich at the moment. From across the street, it looks like a Scott's commercial. I tried speedzone as well, but since I've only used it once, I can't speak to it, except to say it seems to have been effective in the area I used. Tenacity has done a GREAT job. I'm willing to try some of the ones that he mentions here. I doubt Tenacity is the only great product out there. It would be interesting to see if the others hit the weeds Tenacity misses (the reason why I bought Speedzone).
Presently a Tenacity user and yes the bleaching effect is long lasting. Didn’t realize there were other effective products. I will order Triad, thank you.
I use it mainly for grassy weeds and I mix it with speed zone for broadleaf weeds. The statement about the bleaching is correct on certain type of grass, on Kentucky blue grass do not see that but I do spot treatments now once don't have that many weeds now.
I really do not want to use Pre emerg on my new JG/BBU lwn reno this spring due to root pruning. Yes they say it`s ok but had a bad experience with barricade in the year before reno. There were no roots by aug. and had to do it all over. Then that was a challenge because barricade was still working and stopped seed growth. I did a split app. I guess the positive was i had NO crabgrass or weeds. But also no lawn by late aug. Maybe i will use triad or speed zone and attack as they come. I also learned i should have kept it at 3 inches to promote root growth not 2. cutting the lawn twice a week
I agree, I don't use pre emergent on newly established grass either. I have quit using tenacity at seeding too and just focus on pulling weeds as they come up or using a selective herbicide once the grass is established. Thanks for watching and good luck with the lawn!
In relation to bentgrass, tenacity does work on it, may just take several apps over time to fully get rid of it depending on how bad your outbreak is. Thanks for watching!
Has anyone used Tenacity to kill Quackgrass or Torpedo Grass in a fescue-blue grass lawn? I am in Ohio and have been fighting it for my 3rd year. I thought it was Bermuda when it first started and treated for that, but didn’t work, wrong grass. They also call it quackgrass here. Is Round-up and reseeding my only choice?
According to the Purdue University Turf Manual there is no selective broadleaf herbicides that will control quackgrass. Your only option is a non selective herbicide like glyphoaphate (round up) to spot treat. Good luck!
Great information Justin. I have only really used Mesotrione for seeding and overseeding. The bleaching doesn't particularly bother me. I find it kind of cool LOL. I mean, it does go away.
Yep, more of just a preference for me on the bleaching when I used it to treat my existing lawn - the white stuck out bad lol. It didn't bother me as much when seeding. Thanks for watching PJ appreciate it! 🤜💥🤛
The triad is a good herbicide, but it won't kill the poa. Poa sucks get rid of, the best way is to dig it up and reseed those spots with a quality grass seed. Good luck!
I haven't used that before, they wouldn't ship Triad to you or Speedzone? Have you tried domyown.com? They usually can ship stuff that Amazon won't. Thanks for watching!
Tenacity requires 2 applications about 2 weeks apart and lawn needs to be watered or rained on about 1 days afterwards. If done in spring most weeds wiped out for the season. It’s the most natural / most safe for people/kids/animals.
Soooo what’s the alternative for lawn that been taken over by weeds? It’s started good in spring but as the time went buy more and more weeds came out. I just re did the lawn this past fall but it almost feel like a fail now that I see the weed taking over
@brbr4281 I would start with a good broadleaf herbicide like speedzone or triad select. If you have a bad crabgrass outbreak try quinclorac. The quack grass is tough to get rig of without digging it out or spraying a non selective on it to kill and reseed.
I have had success with tenacity on bentgrass. I'm not saying it's useless, it has its place. The issue is some people use it as a cure all for everything and then wonder why weeds they have don't die. Thanks for watching
So I overseeded, applied meso, bleached everything, water daily, mowed twice already. It's been 2½ weeks. When would it be safe to add more seed? To fill in thin spots? And will the lingering tenacity affect germination? Thanks bud
I would have to look at the label, but I think it's something like 4 weeks to reseed after using tenacity. I would look at the label to be sure, you may have still have time to reseed those areas depending on the weather. Good luck!
I've used Tenacity three times a year (spring-summer) for the past four years. It does eliminate everything except the blue-rye grass, but wish I didn't have to use it every year. I use it slightly above the recommended dose of 2.5 cc/gallon and the lawn has always recovered - - - this far. One trick-- don't fertilize or use iron for at least a month before using Tenacity,. Dark lush green makes it more difficult to see the blue dye. The manufacturers of Tenacity should display the date of manufacture on the b bottle, and stop making the lot number into some code the consumer doesn't know. The bleaching its a mild nuisance. Anyone know how to better stop "nimblewill" weed?
Outside of glyphoaphate, tenacity is the only other herbicide that I know of personally that will kill nimbleweed. I do think putting the date of manufacture on the bottle would be helpful as well. Thanks for watching!
Tried it. Worked ok on crab grass, clover and dandelions but not much else. Stored in my basement for the following year and then it killed nothing. And nothing the following year. My experience was that it had no shelf life.
I bought it for bent grass in my fescue lawn. Over the last 10 years I've completely redone my lawn from scratch because of bent grass. Now i just spray once a year to control the bent grass. I hope to never redo my fescue lawn because that is a chore!
Outside of glyphosate, tenacity does work on bent grass. It does take awhile to get rid of it, unless you burn it off with glyphosate and start over. Either way, it is a pain. Thanks for watching!
If you have an issue with crabgrass I would recommend using the active ingredient quinclorac to treat it. It will work much better than tenacity on crabgrass. Thanks for watching!
This is probably the most informative and non-biased reviews I have ever seen on tenacity. I too don't understand the fascination with this stuff - so many other herbicides available that work much better. Well done video 👍
I used a different brand name which contains the same exact ingredient and amount of ingredient as tenacity. Have used it twice now. Garbage! The only thing it did was turn every place I sprayed yellow. Took a while for the green to come back to the grass. Did not kill any of the ground ivy or the white clover it was intended to kill. Maybe they lied about the amount of active ingredient, I don’t know, but if it truly is the same as tenacity I’d never waste my money on tenacity.
@@TheLawnLoverin fact the one I found and originally was going to try I think has the exact ingredients of the one you said you use, 2,4D, MCP or whatever that is, and dicamba. If the triclopyr works better I’ll do that instead. Or he’ll mix them both. At this point I’ll try almost anything!
The key with any herbicide is knowing the weeds you are targeting to kill. Tenacity has it's purposes as I described in the video, but many people try to use it as a cure-all for everything and for many weeds it just doesn't work. Many people also don't realize the label mentions specifically not to apply as a blanket spray to the entire lawn. I would suggest to do some research to identify the weeds you are trying to kill and then pick a good selective herbicide known to work on those weeds. Your local county extension office can be very helpful with weed identification and herbicide recommendations too. Thanks for watching!
I'm in NE Ohio and sprayed my whole lawn with Tenacity for the first time . I had a fair amount of dandelions in full bloom when I sprayed. Been 3 weeks and This junk killed absolutely NOTHING!! After i week of seeing no results, I even re- spot sprayed a select number/area of dandelions and other weeds and still nothing. What a waist of time and money.. I have had much better luck with good old Weed -B -Gone concentrate. Very disappointed.
I agree, I never had luck with Tenacity either. Choose a good selective broadleaf herbicide and get much better results without the bleaching. Thanks for watching!
The only thing it did help me with was a few patches of bentgrass, otherwise the weeds kept coming back. I have had much better luck with other herbicides. Thanks for watching!
I guess I don't understand the objection to the bleaching.... I mean yes, it doesn't look good but..... Anything you use that works for your weeds....is going to kill the weeds. So whether they are white, or yellow brown....its going to leave a short term mark in your yard. Getting a great lawn isn't somethign you can achieve in a single season unless you are starting from scratch. Its a long game. A few weeks here and there over a few summers to kill off a major weed infestation is a small price to pay. Aside from scrapping all your sod off and starting from scratch, there is no magic instant solution.
The point of the video is that I have encountered many people the last several years who claim tenacity is an all around miracle herbicide, when it isn't. The point isn't about bleaching, it is about making sure you are using the most effective herbicide for what weeds you are targeting. In some cases it may be tenacity, but not always. Thanks for watching!
I don't mind the bleaching as much as I can't stand having to reapply Tenacity multiple times with limited success. There are much better herbicides on the market that can take care of the weeds in the lawn much better than Tenacity if you are not using it when seeding. Great information!
I hear mixing tenacity with low doses of triclopyr can boost it's effects while reducing the bleaching. Curious if anyone has tried this in the comments. I have not personally - Triclopyr works well enough for me alone or with 24d that I don't see the need to add tenacity to the mix, unless you need crabgrass control. I have had better success with Drive in this use case though.
Mixing the two is supposed to reduce bleaching. If you haven't heard of Sublime before, go research that. I spoke with the lead rep at Prime Source (the manufacturer of Sublime) and in their testing this had zero bleach on weeds or turfgrass. It was a mix of triclopyr, mesotrione, and dicamba. The unique mixture suppressed the bleaching effects you get with mesotrione alone. I did have it bleach my lawn, but the rep mentioned last season they had an issue with the chemicals staying suspended in the 32oz bottles correctly and you really need to vigorously shake it for a few minutes to ensure it is well mixed. I'm going to test it out again next season to see how it works out.
This Turf Manual from Purdue University is the best $20 you will ever spend. Not only does it identify various common weeds, but it will give you recommended herbicides to kill said weeds. I use this book all of the time and I would highly recommend it! mdc.itap.purdue.edu/item.asp?Item_Number=TURF-100
Damn California they won’t ship triad herbicide to my address… I haven’t had much luck with tenacity either…. Everything u say is right. The crabgrass comes back with a vengeance after the ugly bleach look and empty patches.
Have Saint Augustine (Central Florida) - used Tenacity in Spring. Applied a few times as 1 time application is not helping much. This crap is only bleaching the lawn and weed is growing back in 2 months. Almost no effect on weed. Was fooled by multiple positive reviews.
I never had good luck with it either, it has been way overhyped. There are much better options on the market for broadleaf weed control depending on what weeds you are targeting imo. Thanks for watching!
If it is not a broadleaf herbicide, why does it the label list multiple broadleaf weeds it controls? "Mesotrione (Tenacity) is a systemic postemergence herbicide for control of crabgrass, goosegrass, barnyardgrass, and yellow foxtail. This herbicide can also control several species of broadleaf weeds, as well as creeping bentgrass, nimblewill, and nutsedge in turf."
Its main scope is grassy weeds . Quinclorac says the same. I've never thought of using either for broadleaf control. It is very effective with nimblewill and I'm testing it on goose grass right now
I did not have much luck with it on goose grass, but I did have luck with the goose grass with Sublime - check that out if the tenacity does not work for that.
I understand that, but why deal with bleaching if you can use other products that are more effective and don't bleach? I have used a variety of herbicides over the last 20 years, tenacity serves it's purpose at seeding time, but I personally have found more effective options. Thanks for watching!
I don’t mind the bleaching when I use tenacity on a lawn that has a majority of crabgrass. I just wish people would wake up and stop using tenacity as the be all to end all. IMO Tenacity really is not that great of a herbicide for things other than crabgrass infestation. Lots of other herbicides do a much better job. Well done on this video.
@@PatGolden88 If you have cool season grass, I had great success with triclopyr Ester on my creeping charlie. Check out the video below and the links for the product is in the description. Thanks for watching!
I just ordered 8 oz of Tenacity for Fall treatment of crabgrass in the east TN region. Hope to follow up this treatment with Prodiamine 65 in the Spring. I'll take a bit of bleaching over the crabgrass patches...I think. Thanks for info!
Nimblewill grass, the bane of humanity or maybe lawn lovers. I have had this horribly before spreading like evil and it takes over with no weed killer (known to me or known to anybody I think) except Tenacity. Love to see Nimblewill turn white and die. That said I agree splotchy white areas in your lawn are not my cup of tea but when I see remedies for Nimblewill such as mechanical removal I laugh, it would take years of pulling and you are fooling yourself if you think the roots came with it. As far as Triad...good mixture but I see no ingredient in triad that works on crabgrass....wonder why they left any quinclorac out.
I have also seen Tenacity be successful on bentgrass as well, I luckily have not dealt with nimbleweed before. It sounds like a blast based on your comment lol. Triad is a good all around mixture, but you definitely want a product with quinclorac in it if you are primarily targeting crabgrass. For me it works well because I use it in tandem as needed with my pre emergent so I luckily don't have to try to kill crabgrass after it germinates. I'm wondering if this is why they left it out of the mix, I'm not sure. Thanks for watching and leaving a comment, I appreciate it!
I wouldn't mind the bleaching so much if it actually killed weeds and I didn't have to reapply it. But I found there are much better herbicides for the majority of weeds that don't bleach. Tenacity certainly still has it's place and uses, but there are much better options if you are not applying when seeding imo. Thanks for watching!
I have had success with it on bentgrass, but outside of that, not much luck with it. I don't even use it when seeding anymore. I think there are many better options on the market that are more effective for post emergent broadleaf weed control.
That sucks, I love Triad and it works very well. I'm not certain what products you have available for sale in CA, but I would look for a good all around broadleaf herbicide. I would also suggest contacting your local extension office to ask what herbicide they would recommend to kill that Bermuda off based on what's available for sale in your area. The people at my local extension office are very knowledgeable and helpful. Thanks for watching and good luck!
I wouldn't mind it as much if the stuff worked great, but I haven't had great results with it so the bleaching wasn't worth it imo. Thanks for watching bro!
Now I find your video very interesting. Now I've just one suggestion. Stop begining every sentence with the word "NOW". Now your points will come across just as forceful but doing so is very annoying and distracting. Now keep up the good work.
I needed to hear this, I thought I was the only one that felt this way. Too me tenacity is a Fkkkn joke. Ive used tenacity the last few year and I still cant get rid of my freaking clovers. My problem I keep listing to these idiot on RUclips WHO make Millon's and don't know shit. I'm not say this about this guy but I have listened to others that are full of it.
If you have a cool season lawn and are trying to get rid of clover, try Triclopry Ester - works wonders on clover. I quit using tenacity awhile ago, I never had luck with it. Thanks for watching!
That was well presented! I used "Tenacity" on my cool season type lawn last fall to kill creeping bent grass. It required three applications 2 to 3 weeks apart and it's one of the only selective herbicides that targets bent grass in an existing lawn.
Yes, it does work well on bentgrass, other than that I haven't had much luck with it. Thanks for watching!
I used Tenacity for the first time a week ago today. All of my weeds are a nice pale yellow about to turn white. Sure it's ugly, but I get the sense of satisfaction that they're on their way out.
That's great, I hope you have success with it and have a great lawn season. Thanks for watching and commenting 🙌
Tons of fan boys all over. Glad you took the time to give your reasoning, well done and wish the best in everything you do!
I am all for herbicides that are effective, outside of using this during seeding, I have no had the greatest of luck with Tenacity. Thanks for watching, I appreciate your kind words!
oh wait a minute I've already liked this video. must be 2nd time or more watching it, thanks again
Thanks for watching!
Thanks for watching!
I have a Centipede lawn and Tenacity works extremely well. Kills crabgrass and many other weeds. Does not do well on clover but Atrazine does.
That's great! I have never had much luck with it on my cool season lawn outside of it working good on bentgrass.
It definitely has it's uses, but I have had many people say this is all they use and they wonder why they aren't having success. Thanks for watching!
That what use it for I had a big problem with bentgrass and it killed most of it off
Hey how long ago did you do this? Did you notice bentgrass came back after 3 apps? Planning to do the same
I have used Tenacity ever since it first came out commercially.

Good luck!
@@TheLawnLover Awesome! Thank you very much for the reply
@@TheLawnLover thank you very much.
Thanks for watching, I'm glad you found it helpful. Have a great weekend!
you think it will work on barmuda grass in plano?
I’m trying to use tenacity to do away with my rogue Zoysa grass in my TTF lawn here in Central Indiana. Not very optimistic that it’s actually going to do the job. Ron said it was questionable, but I’m gonna keep after it every two weeks.
Good luck and the only way to know for sure is trying it out. Thanks for watching!
So what’s a good herbicide for southern St Augustine turf? My lawn service doesn’t seem to be able to control weeds especially southern crab grass.
That was mainly the point of this video haha
Thanks for watching!

What would you recommend for an existing lawn to kill clover? It’s my biggest issue, thanks!
If you are struggling with clover I would use Triclopyr Ester. I use this for clover and ground ivy and it works like a charm.

1.5 tablespoons of 61% triclopyr ester per gallon of water destroyed all my clover in a single application.
is there any liquid pre emergent herbicide for overseeding that wont bleach your lawn?
As far as I'm aware, tenacity is the only product with pre emergent properties that can safely be used at seeding.
What else can you use besides tenacity that is cheaper when you overseed with new grass seed. ?
Tenacity is the only herbicide (that I know of) that you can use at the time of seeding an not inhibit seed germination. I typically advise people to use tenacity when seeding bare dirt to help limit weeds from sprouting during the germination process. When overseeding, there should not be that big of a need for it in most cases. This will ultimately come down to preference and need, everyone's situation is different. Thanks for watching!
Tenacity is the best, I don't use anything else. It kills all my weeds, especially the nutsedge.
That's great that it works well for you. I can't stand the bleached look that it leaves and I never had great success with it killing what I was targeting. Thanks for watching 🙌
How long does your bleaching look last
@@delrayharris6583 The bleaching only lasts a couple of weeks.
Preach
I just bought some and put it down a week ago. How long until it starts to work or when I will start seeing results?
Presently a Tenacity user and yes the bleaching effect is long lasting. Didn’t realize there were other effective products. I will order Triad, thank you.
Thanks for watching, glad it was helpful! I love the Triad, it has worked great for me as a general all around herbicide.

@@TheLawnLover it’s cool you just got to wait 3 to 4 weeks to reseed your lawn
I use it mainly for grassy weeds and I mix it with speed zone for broadleaf weeds. The statement about the bleaching is correct on certain type of grass, on Kentucky blue grass do not see that but I do spot treatments now once don't have that many weeds now.
Thanks for watching!
Tenacity is great for bent grass. Do you know of any other her herbicide that kills bent grass?
@@TheLawnLover Totally get it. 🙌🏽
I just applied Triad Select 3/12/24 on my Tal Fescue where I have some Clover and POA. Hope this does work good. Do Not like the Bleach look at all
The triad is a good herbicide, but it won't kill the poa. Poa sucks get rid of, the best way is to dig it up and reseed those spots with a quality grass seed. Good luck!
That’s exactly my problem right now. How did it end up doing if you doing mind me asking
I followed Tenacity's directions to the letter and have had lousy results. Will try Triad. Ordering it today.
I had much better success with the Triad, good luck!
I can't get it shipped to my state (Connecticut) by Amazon. I don't know why, however, they did ship Torocity for which the jury is still out.

I've used Tenacity several times. They mostly bleach the weeds but they recover and bounce back in time.
Agreed outside of bentgrass I haven't had luck with it personally.

I just re did the lawn this past fall but it almost feel like a fail now that I see the weed taking over
Where are you located and what weeds are you dealing with?
@@TheLawnLover I’m in Kansas. There’s clover, dandelion, crabgrass, annual bluegrass, quack grass.
@brbr4281 I would start with a good broadleaf herbicide like speedzone or triad select. If you have a bad crabgrass outbreak try quinclorac. The quack grass is tough to get rig of without digging it out or spraying a non selective on it to kill and reseed.
What would you recommend for bent grass?
Yeah, I am dealing with the bleaching effect now.
Tried it. Worked ok on crab grass, clover and dandelions but not much else. Stored in my basement for the following year and then it killed nothing. And nothing the following year. My experience was that it had no shelf life.
Store mine in my basement and use it the following season. Killed weeds as normal.
I bought it for bent grass in my fescue lawn. Over the last 10 years I've completely redone my lawn from scratch because of bent grass. Now i just spray once a year to control the bent grass. I hope to never redo my fescue lawn because that is a chore!
That's awesome! It's great to see the payoff from all of the hard work you put in when you look out at a great lawn. Thanks for sharing! 🙌
I use it to kill bent grass it took 3 years to kill it off you know what else I can use to kill bent grass thanks
Outside of glyphosate, tenacity does work on bent grass. It does take awhile to get rid of it, unless you burn it off with glyphosate and start over. Either way, it is a pain. Thanks for watching!
Does tenacity kill Crabgrass ? would it be bad to use Par3 in a combo with Tenacity?
If you have an issue with crabgrass I would recommend using the active ingredient quinclorac to treat it. It will work much better than tenacity on crabgrass. Thanks for watching!

I haven't had luck with it either, same issues as you. If you are going after ground ivy and clover, try triclopyr, it worked phenomenal
@@TheLawnLover thanks for the tip! Planned on trying something this weekend, so I’ll look into that!
@@TheLawnLoverin fact the one I found and originally was going to try I think has the exact ingredients of the one you said you use, 2,4D, MCP or whatever that is, and dicamba. If the triclopyr works better I’ll do that instead. Or he’ll mix them both. At this point I’ll try almost anything!
it doesn't work on southern lawn like in texas?
I despise tenacity, never had luck with it. Great video 👍
The only thing it did help me with was a few patches of bentgrass, otherwise the weeds kept coming back. I have had much better luck with other herbicides. Thanks for watching!
I did two videos on Tenacity. It's junk.
Is there a better alternative ?
@coolbreeze972 it depends on what weeds you are targeting.
Can this be used on cool season grass?
Yes, Tenacity can be used on cool season grass types.
Great video Justin
Thanks!
I don't mind the bleaching as much as I can't stand having to reapply Tenacity multiple times with limited success. There are much better herbicides on the market that can take care of the weeds in the lawn much better than Tenacity if you are not using it when seeding. Great information!
I agree! I appreciate you watching and leaving a comment!
Use Tenacity and it kicks butt.
👍
I hope bleaching goes away my lawn was super dark green even after this winter..😢
It will eventually go away after 3 to 4 weeks, just be patient and keep mowing. Thanks for watching!
Very informative video - well done!

The bleaching goes away after a couple cuts
I understand that, but why deal with bleaching if you can use other products that are more effective and don't bleach? I have used a variety of herbicides over the last 20 years, tenacity serves it's purpose at seeding time, but I personally have found more effective options. Thanks for watching!
Very informative video, cleared up many things for me - thanks. In addition to what you outlined, I have always balked at using because of the price.
Glad it was helpful! Thanks for watching!
if you buy the generic it's honestly relatively cheap compared to some other herbicides out there. However there are much better options for the price
Thanks buddy, I appreciate you watching 🤜💥🤛
New to the lawncare community and have a lot of creeping Charlie. Was going to use tenacity till I saw this video and comment lol any recommendations?
@@PatGolden88 Most broadleaf herbicides will work. You just have to read the labels. I believe ortho weed d gon and Round Up for lawns will work.
They’re not too expensive to tryout.
I only use it when seeding i prefer a 3 or 4 way herbicide ill spike it with quincloric if i have crab grass.
Nimmbleweed yes absolutely!!!
Thanks for watching!
I used tenacity and had bleached out grass my wife was so mad at me! It stinks
Tenacity really sucks. There are so many better options out there. Only using tenacity at seeding otherwise it sucks
I have had success with it on bentgrass, but outside of that, not much luck with it. I don't even use it when seeding anymore. I think there are many better options on the market that are more effective for post emergent broadleaf weed control.
Please give your recommendations. Thx!
@@ZenodAbril it's going to depend on where you are located and what weeds you are targeting
you may not like it but it's the safest herbicide on the market, period !!
Please explain what you mean by "safest" herbicide on the market. Also, how effective has it been for you and what weeds are you using it on?
I don’t like the bleaching effect.
Me either. Thanks for watching!
Amazon does not ship the Triad to (Southern) Calif. Any alternative? I want to kill bermudagrass from my Fescue. Thx.
I have never used it, but I would bet I wouldn’t like the bleached look either.
I wouldn't mind it as much if the stuff worked great, but I haven't had great results with it so the bleaching wasn't worth it imo. Thanks for watching bro!
I'm an IT, and we call this user error
😂😂😂😂
A whole video of I hate tenacity
And you watched it, I appreciate it 👍
@TheLawnLover hahaha I did i was waiting for info I could use. I'm in wa i can't even get tenacity and got crabs was looking for an alternative 🦀 😅
@@TheKeithmasterflex 😂🤣😂
Not a fan myself, use it on seeding jobs probably will last me another 20yrs. Hehe. Good job
I ended up giving mine to a buddy last season because I just never used it anymore. Thanks for watching and dropping a comment!
Lol to the person that said it is the best weed killer of all time 🤣
😂😂😂
Tenacity is highly overrated. Do not buy.
Tzone
Tzone is a great option. Thanks for watching!
Now I find your video very interesting.
Now I've just one suggestion. Stop begining every sentence with the word "NOW".
Now your points will come across just as forceful but doing so is very annoying and distracting.
Now keep up the good work.
Now, thanks for watching. Now I hope you come back again and give me speech lessons, Bob. Now, have a good night 👍
Your just one guy that thinks he knows ever thing wrong keep your ideas to your self your confusing folks smarty
Calling someone smarty, you may want to work on your grammar 😂
I needed to hear this, I thought I was the only one that felt this way. Too me tenacity is a Fkkkn joke. Ive used tenacity the last few year and I still cant get rid of my freaking clovers. My problem I keep listing to these idiot on RUclips WHO make Millon's and don't know shit. I'm not say this about this guy but I have listened to others that are full of it.
If you have a cool season lawn and are trying to get rid of clover, try Triclopry Ester - works wonders on clover. I quit using tenacity awhile ago, I never had luck with it. Thanks for watching!
