    One thing that goes highly unaccounted for with yellow burns is hot boiling water. A typical Arizona summer day is about 112 and if you leave your hose out, the last thing you want to do is just start spraying away after it's been sitting our there for hours. I learned this the hard way.

    • @pestandlawnginja
      @pestandlawnginja  6 лет назад +1

      I spent some summers in Arizona. The hot water never crossed my mind. I can tell you I've had the pleasure of drinking from a hose during the hot chandler summers. The snake bit me pretty good ;) . You make a good point. Thanks for the comment.

    You are a very intelligent man. I was wondering if you could tell me what might be my issue with my lawn? I live in Saskatchewan Canada so we get winter 6 months of the year. Down to -32 -36 Celsius at times. For the past 3 years I’ve tried to fix my back lawn. I started the first year with a lawn that was half dead patches. So I seeded it and it came in decent, but the following spring the dead patches came back. So the second year I tilled everything up thinking it was a compacted soil issue. I seeded. Watered and fertilized. By mid summer I had a perfect green thick lawn with no weeds. I was very impressed with it. But by the next spring half of the lawn was dead again. So I tried a different seed and after it was established I only watered it deep once a week to encourage deep root growth. Again I had a beautiful lawn. This spring when the snow melted it looked promising but the same thing happened. Over half the grass dead. The only thing I can think of is that there is a lack of nutrients deep in the soil. And any nutrients that I add to help the grass grow is sitting on the top inch of soil. And I was thinking that would cause shallow roots and with shallow roots it would lead to the winter killing the grass. The grass that is established in patches threwout the back yard comes up year after year. It is only the grass that I seed that dies every year. And even tho it looks picture perfect in the summer I can never get it to last. This year I put some compost down with the grass seed and starter fertilizer to give it a better chance. Do you know why my new grass dies every winter?

    • @pestandlawnginja
      @pestandlawnginja  5 лет назад

      So here's my 2c. My opinion is the water isn't draining well enough in the spring and its most likely getting too soggy. The nutrients should still be there regardless. I would be diligent on doing an end of the season short mow and checking water levels early. You may need to do some preventive fungal treatments or find a way to increase drainage.

    Hi loved your video. We’ve moved into a house and the lawn is spotty at best. There are moles (which we are trying to eradicate) killed grubs, treated 3x for weeds. There is a combo of grasses. What could we seed with that will fill in and overtake the rest of whatever grasses there are?

    I'm a lawn care technician and I'm learning some good tips from you. I will say you're a little too dependent on power rakes when you will do more good with core aeration. You need to get air, moisture, and nutrients deeper into the soil to solve some of the problems that you're only "scratching the surface" with. Well done videos all around!

    • @pestandlawnginja

      Begin by identifying the type of grass you have. the ph of the soil, and what goals of how you would like the lawn to be. Once you identify if you have warm or cool season grass types we can go from there.

We also want to diagnose and fix the sprinkler coverage in each section. I would use all the recommended solutions as a blanket app on this lawn since the majority of it is under stress. You can use the essentials plus with a nitrogen source as a spot solutions for areas that are struggling, or areas that have gone dormant, which I often do.

I have always had a nice TTF lawn and with the heat we had in South Carolina this year and no rain, it just got stressed out even with my sprinkler running on a timer. My question to you is I just applied the Gly this past weekend. It started to work within 2 to 3 days. Once it completely takes it course.

    • @pestandlawnginja
      @pestandlawnginja  6 лет назад +3

      Hey there Ivette, sounds like you're doing a great job prepping the soil. How I like to do it is two rounds of glyphosate back to back 14 days apart. Then 2 weeks after that I'll seed. I feel that the mix of humic, kelp, fish emulsion and air8 is a good cocktail and will help condition the soil. I'm not sure I'd add anything to the mix. If you wanted to add something to help stimulate the growth you can purchase an organic source of fertilizer. I have used liquid launch and I've been happy with it. It's basically liquid cow manure.

    • @pestandlawnginja
      @pestandlawnginja  5 лет назад

      You're best bet is to use a riding lawn mower and get the front end tine dethatcher for the model of mower you have. That way it will rake up up and you mow it up shortly after. The problem with these machines is the amount of crud most people rake up is too much for the machines to handle. You literally mow for 10ft and empty the bag. I find that using a high power blower like my redmax 7500 and getting it into a big pile works best.

      This is a great question. Most lawns have weeds because the grass isn't thick enough to cover all the ground. Weeds are a bi product. I would start by making sure your sprinkler coverage is on point. This will be IMO 70% of your success. As for fall preperation I would spot spray the weeds diligently, overseed, use a bio stimulant and reintroduce mycorrhiza into the soil asap.

    • @pestandlawnginja
      @pestandlawnginja  6 лет назад +1

      Tilling is a great way to help stop weed seed germination. I highly recommend it. You can do could also use the cultivation side of a dethatch rake as well and have just as good results IMO with less work. If you are going to be sodding it won't matter if you put the micro's back in immediately. The sod has soo much fertilizer and stimulants in it. IMO the sod will have enough to last about 3 to 5 months depending on the sod farm you get it from. If you are going to be seeding I would hit it with micros, mycorrhiza and a liquid cow manure like liquid launch. It'll put the life right into the seed.

      hopefully the bermuda was completely dormant. keep in mind the soil temps need to be well below 65 when spraying glyphosate on bermuda. I imagine as the soil temps rise your grass will come out of it's dormant state a bit more. If you want to help push it out use a granular ammoniacle nitrogen at 5lbs per 1000 sq ft.

      It's a fertilizer. you can find it at stores. the first number on the bag will tell you the percentage of nitrogen and in the fine print will tell you what percentage of the source is. so a 21.0.0 is commonly ammoniacle nitrogen and a 46.0.0 is commonly a urea based nitrogen. some bags are a combination of both.

      @@karatekid4984 any baseline 2, 4d will easily get rid if broadleaf. Tenacity is great for what it is.

    Hey I need a few pointers and/or advise. I had to replace my drain field, and my old lawn was filled with crab grass. So much so, I believe it was ONLY crab grass that looked like reg grass. I redone it and aerated it, then raked it flat. I then used Scott's lawn food and Scott's southern gold tall fescue. I covered the whole yard, 7500 Sq ft with the Scott's premium topsoil. It grew in fast, like 11 days, but it is not thick and I now have, in places, the crab grass coming back thru....can u help me ?

      most species of tall fescue do not spread like kentucky bluegrass on its own. my suggestion in these cases is to seed the sparse areas and plan on doing another general overseed come fall.

    How do you fix herbicide burn? or Nitrogen burn in the lawn?

  • @tonesgaming1012

    Would you just dethach the lawn, areraid it, put some organic matter to improve drainage, add a viarity of rye grass, fescue and blue grass seed, then add some fertiliser with high phosphorus for root growth and then water it to damp so you don't wash away seeds? That's my opinion though.

      It's a good plan. In this case I'd do something very similar

    My lawn looks similar and I may have a few of the same issues. Can you tell me what time of year was it and what was the temperatures for the week that you used the nutrients on the grass if you remember?

      This lawn was in July which is our hottest time for the year reaching 90 plus degrees per week.

      Thanks I am from el paso I may have used too much fertilizer then because thanks to your grass color chart I am pretty sure I burned my grass with fertilizer. I want to make sure I don't make the same mistake.
