Thank you. Only suggestion I would make is changing spray nozzles. I swapped the nozzle like yours with the teejet fan nozzle. It’s a huge difference. Instead of all the movement of the sprayer you’re just walking along like cutting the lawn, it’s putting down a 4 foot wide mist like spray very evenly. It’s a lot less work with the changing nozzles.
Nice job & review. I live in Hickory, NC and I’ve found that Speedzone works really well for me as a post-emergent on my turf type tall fescue. I have serious problems with the creeping Charlie & clover as well and it clears up most weeds within a week. May be worth checking out. Good work and content.
Do you have a video of what you do for summer care? Do you water , how often do you mow , and things like that ? Awesome vids. Looks like you have a lot of good content
I know this video is 3 years old but, I started watching when you mentioned NC. I live in Winston-Salem and was very interested to learn that this combination of herbicides will kill or at least torture bermuda grass and dallisgrass without harming tall fescue. The only solution to dallisgrass I've been told is a shovel or glyphosate. Since bahiagrass is the evil twin to dallisgrass, I wonder if it will work on that too? I have several customers yards that are infested with bahiagrass in tall fescue. For the other weeds you mentioned, (wild violets) I've used several 3 way herbicides with good results.
just an update, tenacity is starting to work, huge improvement 10 days on , watered and cut lawn, will apply 2nd dose after 17 days from initial application, will keep you updated, being patient is certainly key.
Where did you get your mix ratio for Tryclopyr 4? The bottle says maximum application rate is 2-4 pints per 100 gallons. So that’s just .64 ounces per gallon max. So your 10 ounces per 5 gallons is 300% of maximum application ratio. When mixing that high I believe the concern is ground water infiltration.
It does seem that I was heavy with the mix, although I sprayed lightly. The ground water infiltration makes sense. I'll mix at the recommended app rate moving forward
The max rate for Triclopyr is based on the area sprayed; not the volume of water it’s mixed in. The water acts as a carrier, which means it doesn’t actually mix with the Triclopyr. So, this means that the person spraying plays a part in the application rate. Move slowly, more water is used, need less Triclopyr in the water mix. Mix lightly, can have higher. For Alligare Triclopyr 4. The max rate on the label is 1.5 oz per 1,000 sq ft. (Many labels use acres. 1 acre = 43,560 sq ft. If the max is based on an acre, you can calculate the max for 1,000 sq ft by dividing by 43.56). Many of the YT lawn enthusiast use 1 gal of water for 1,000 sq ft. This would suggest Btwillia is using too much. However Btwillia says he’s spraying 10,000 sq ft with his 5 gallons containing 10 oz of Triclopyr. That makes it 1 oz per 1,000 sq ft, which is below the limit. The label recommends 3/8 to 3/4 oz Triclopyr to treat 1,000 sq ft.
So I found the instructions on applying Triclopyr a bit confusing. It doesn’t specify the exact amount of water to use per thousand. You said you used 10 oz per five gallon of water. If I’m just using a 2 gallon pump sprayer to spot spray would you say 4oz of Triclopyr then? Thanks! Appreciate the video!
I'm also in central NC and just learned about wild violet after it absolutely took over my backyard. I had never even heard of it before. NC Agriculture extension recommended Tenacity for it, but it seems here that you're saying that the Triclopyr 4 is what you used for the wild violet? Should I change my approach? Havent received the Tenacity yet, but planned to spray it down on Wednesday/Thursday of this week.
Tenacity may have helped to finish it off, but triclopyr is the bomb for it. Buy both, you can spray them together. Tenacity has a broader teach for what it does but takes longer to work
Hi there really liked your video and honest review. Quick question I didn’t take care of my lawn last fall and plan to mow, aerate, detach, put Scott seed, organic fertilizer and finish it with tenacity spray... is this ok ? Confused should I do just tenacity first to kill the weeds like u said in the video u waited 3 weeks and then do the detaching and seeding or I can do all this together? Please advise appreciate your help in advance.. thank you
I would honestly hit whatever you want to kill with Roundup since it cheaper first. Then mow very low 2 days later. Seed one week after spraying roundup. Then do all your aeration, seeding etc. Then spray tenacity after seed is down for crab grass prevention and to kill whatever is left. Thanks for the compliment
If there is enough good grass to justify using tenacity first versus roundup then that's ok too. You can spray the Tenacity before and after. 4 weeks apart at label rate
@@BtwilliasGarage hi there... my original plan has hiccup as not receiving tenacity surfactant and razer blue spray.. Buy the most cost for effective "Roundup" product you can find at HD or the local store. Look at the price and compare it to the active % amount of glyphosate that is in it. That's the best route to go. Add a little dish or hand soap in the spayer and lay it on strong. It's cheap and will kill everything. Go ahead and spray some now and then again when your done. Should I wait to seed in the fall and just fertilize my existing grass (KBG) for now?
Hey! Thank you! Yes, I'm very active just not able to post as much lately 1- yes you want to blanket spray this every 30-45 days or so. 2- I would definitely wait til fall to overseed. Actually I would just deal with the lawn overall this year and then kill it all in the fall with a heavy glyphosate mix (roundup). Kill the good grass too.
