  • If a car dealer does this... leave immediately! If a dealership does any of these things, they're not worth working with. Greedy dealers have put a bad taste in the mouths of consumers these last few years. The new and used vehicle market has shifted tremendously since then. It is now a BUYER'S MARKET 100%... vehicle inventories are are through the roof across the nation. Dealers will have to discount their vehicles by a lot to stay in business in 2024. This year will reward good honest dealers and punish greedy ones who refuse to let go of their marked up and inflated car and truck prices. Would you agree?
    In this video I will highlight some of the most prominent RED FLAGS to look for when buying a vehicle. These are just some of the things to look for. If you see a dealer deploy these tactics, leave immediately. Let me know what your thoughts are. Which of these red flags have you seen before? Are there any I missed? Thank you for watching as always, I truly appreciate the support! If you found ANY value in this video here, please consider Liking and Subscribing, I'd greatly appreciate it. Your support means a lot!! Thank you!

    Gen X here. Remember in the late 80's financing fell through over the weekend. They wanted to move me into something cheaper. When I decided to wait and asked for my trade in back. They said another customer bought it. It miraculously reappeared when I stated that it's illegal to sell a vehicle without its title 😂

    Yes! I experienced Friday a dealer who boasted about advertising the lowest prices in a 250 mile radius. When we went to work the deal they had inflated pricing by adding bogus charges. I walked, told them I was moving to the next dealership.. which was MUCH more honest! It ended up being a better car at a better OTD price!

    When I purchased my Tundra the fiance guy tried to get me to buy extended and gap warranty.
    I told him that your dealership only sell me third party service it's not from your dealership.
    And Also told him that if I want gaps insurance I just go to my auto insurance and buy from there.
    The fiance guy very pissoff cause he can't sell any service to me.

    The problem is when all dealerships are doing some of these practices. I'm surrounded by several of them and they are all guilty of some of these. I've seen markups, pre-installed protection packages, the "come to the dealer now" pitch, the car you want it's in the lot today but you call tomorrow and the car was sold. No good option is left. So I guess it's up to the consumer to deal with this, like saying no dealer installed add-ons. And be ready to walk away and not forced into a bad deal.

    Read all reviews!! My son worked for a dealership (for a short time) and one other trick they use is to have each salesperson have their family & friends write 5 star reviews, even if they have never purchased a car there. Read between the lines on the great reviews- those just might be FAKE. Read the bad ones also to get a much better picture of what’s really going on at that dealership.

    You can absolutely negotiate a deal by email or phone. Know the car VIN in advance or have a specific list of options prepared to act as the basis for all discussions. It sends a strong message that you are a serious buyer and know exactly what you want. Walking around the lot like a lost puppy instantly makes you a target for dealer games. If the dealer can't give you a cost breakdown by email move on. If need be give them the car in question and ask for a cash price, a lease price and a finance price. All pricing is "out the door" with all fees and taxes built in to the final proposal. Once you have all the information do your math and thinking at home, never in the showroom. I also never test drive and buy anything at the same time. Test drive, go home, get the numbers by email, then decide. When you walk into a dealer to actually buy a car it should be just to pay for it and pick it up. Most dealers don't deserve much respect and like the video states - if they play games just get up and walk out. Don't even say thanks and goodbye.

    • @toddrunyon
      @toddrunyon 2 месяца назад +1

      The dealer CAN give numbers over email but don't WANT to because they know the buyer will simply use those numbers to get a better / more realistic deal somewhere else.

      This is the tactic I used in summer 2020 to get my Tacoma SR5 4x4. I have to say it worked well for me in the end. I did this after getting game players at a local Toyota dealer. When I sent my very direct email to about 10 or more dealers with in a few hours driving distance, a few didn't reply, a few just wanted to get you to come in to see a sales proposal, a few actually sent a sales proposal I had 3 to sort out. one had addendum items added and was eliminated from contention. I pick the most reasonable and fair one and it turn out to be the easiest car buying experience for me so far.

    • @kifley19
      @kifley19 17 дней назад

      I emailed like 5 Toyota dealers and these bastards just keep telling me to come in and they just keep sending me the OTD price via email that's already listed on their website. I made them offers via email but they just say to come in. I went to one and it was a waste of time. Tried to sell me a bunch of extra bullshit on top of the listed msrp price. If I'm not going to get a discount while in the dealership, why even bother going into the store lol. Just let me get ripped off buying directly online.

    I commend you for your ability to deal with car salesmen and dealerships frequently. Car salesmen are consistently some of the worst people I've ever met, and I'm convinced half of them would rob you at gunpoint if they were confident they could get away with it. I love cars, but I hate dealerships with a passion. I always wondered if being a car salesman attracts people that were already assholes, or if being one turns otherwise good people into assholes.

      I can personally vouch that there are good dealers out there. I’m 72, have purchased 77 vehicles in my lifetime and yes, there are horrible sales people and there are very good ones. When I retired at 58 I was offered a sales job at a Honda/Acura dealership that I had bought several cars from and had always thought highly of them. Our business model there was to nurture a personal relationship with the customer so they became a customer for life. They believed the experience the customer received on their first purchase there should leave such a great impression that if down the road they wanted another Honda or Acura they wouldn’t even consider going anywhere else. In the 4 years I worked there I never was the top salesman for the month BUT my customers loved me. They saw me as genuine as someone who valued them as a customer. Low pressure and honesty goes a long way in the car business.

      Priced between $75,000 and $90,000. No way I would pay that kind of money for a truck. I found a used truck just like I wanted at a Chevy dealer in Lad Vegas for $55,000z so, I saved almost $20,000 and it only had 22,000 miles when I got it. The vehicle has been flawless. Another thing to do is triple check the sales contract before signing. One time I agreed with a payment for 36 months but on the contract it had the payment for 48 months. Also another dealership didnt talk about add ons like seat protection but had sneaked some on the contract. Lastly the first thing I say is I don't want to waste your or my time so go to the sales manager only once to tell me what the best price is. Then tell them you're in no hurry to buy and want to talk with another dealership. Usually they say let me talk to the boss one more time. Don't fall for it and get stuck with haggling. No matter what keep on walking. I've had salesmen act pissed but keep on walking. They may call you backwith their best offer. My philosophy is I worked hard for my money and I'm not going to just give it away.

    There is stil a new car shortage at a lot of dealerships, especially with Toyota and Mazda here in Atlantic Canada. It seems that the US is doing good with inventory but up here it is hard to find the car I want. It usually sells before it even arrives.

    The problem with internet reviews, is that often the company can do things to have negative reviews removed. You can't always trust those and leaving one won't always guarantee anyone will see it.

    Some dealers are getting better. In December I was shopping for a new crossover in Daytona Beach. The only dealership where the salesperson had his "boss" basically block my way out and do the "What can we do to put you in a new Sportage today?" hard sell was the Kia dealership there. I told him (just like I told the salesperson) that I was checking them all out at every dealership to find the one that's just right for me and I wasn't finished looking yet. I'd decide when I was finished doing that. That was the only dealership I crossed off my list out of the half dozen I went to. I haven't bought dozens like Untamed has (😆), but i have bought 8 new cars in my life and it wasn't my first rodeo. Those tactics are an instant turn off and I'm out the door. That market segment is too competitive with too many options to put up with that.

I said I saw this price on your website tho.. the salesman said if we put the real price online no one will come in … my head almost exploded.. I got up and walked out and wrote a bad review online 🤦🏻‍♂️

    Another ex car salesman here. Thank God I was able to get out, eventally. You are correct and even I dread when it's time for a new car and have to go thru the process.
    Love your idea of leaving a review all over the net when you have a bad experience.
    Unfortunatly, that review will be tainted by others who are angry because the car turned out NOT to be the auto of their dreams, or they could not get financing, or the car delivery was delayed, or the special finance rate was only within a certain time period, or the color they wanted was unavailable,.................

    Still driving my 15 year old Toyota FJ cruiser. The older cars were better than the newer cars and you can keep them running by learning about them and staying ahead of the maintenance. There is no way I would pay today’s prices and interest rates.

    Really great advice. No arguments here. I wanted a 2023 Golf R 20th anniversary model. The local dealers, Atlanta, GA. metro, all wanted $8k or more over sticker. Not necessarily in actual markup, but added "stuff" like PPF or coatings, etc. I just could not justify such and knew I would be losing all that money when I sold. I actually never tried to negotiate for the car. I have no idea if they were able to sell at such prices or not. Same with a Toyota Corolla GR, huge markup's. I went with a VW Golf GTI 40th anniversary in Urano Grey and a 6 speed manual from a dealer 340 miles away in Daphine, AL. and got $25,000 trade in on a car I had paid $26,000 drive out and cash for 33 months and 14,000 miles earlier. The date was Sep. 23rd 2023. The trade was a 2021 Corolla hatchback XSE 6 speed manual. I did pay MSRP for the VW, but I got $3k more for the trade in than any of the websites said it was worth. Oh, and the $1000.00 worth of paint protection and dent removal was't even an issue. I just said I was not going to pay it and the sales lady just said okay. The VW had been on the lot for a while, possibly over 90 days. Daphne, Al. is a small market.

    Thank you so much for this video. I'm in the dreaded process of looking for a vehicle. I know exactly what I want. The dealership that has it is 150 miles away. I told them we would do everything by email including contracts. I have no intention of sitting down with the finance manager. I'm just going to do TTL and get the keys. I want msrp and Vin from the sticker and otd price before we move forward. I have looked at their reviews which are mixed depending on if they are dealing with someone that knows what they are doing or not. I told her this is going to be in the order I want it done. She asked about trade in and I said, "I have asked for the out the door price. You have not given that to me. That's the first step. Once I know that, I will make the next decision." She said they would email me the copy of the window sticker including Vin and msrp. We'll see. But I would not have been able to even be that sure before I watched this. So thank you.

    I genuinely HATE the vehicle buying process in the US! In most countries, you go to the retailer, not a dealer, the price is on the vehicle, you either pay it or you don't. In my native Europe, the sticker price already includes all taxes. Only registration and insurance is extra. It is a straight-forward process. No demeaning negotiating, no "I need to talk to my manager" BS. Just a simple purchase transaction. "Extended warranties" are illegal in Europe.

    The thing about online reviews (for anything) is the majority of people who write them are angry because they had a bad experience / transaction and they are immediately looking to strike out. Very few good reviews are descriptive, they are mostly "great product, good experience" - and that's it.

  • @pargolf3158
    @pargolf3158 3 месяца назад

    In all states you only pay the difference between the cost of the vehicle you're buying and the trade in value - that's hw commodity taxes work.
    Even if you traded in a lawnmower, or a dining room set to the car dealership(wouldn't happen but just for reference), they have to remove the value of that trade-in from the value of the vehicle being purchased before charging the taxes on the net price.

    I was calling over the phone to get prices and the dealer lady got really nasty with me and said "I need you to come in to discuss this in person to be able to give you the best deal". When I told her no I just want the prices first before coming in she yelled at me on the phone and said "I need you to be respectful to me as it is common courtesy to come here and talk face to face".
    She hollered at me and told me it was very rude to ask for prices over the phone. I hung up on her and within 5 minutes later she called me back and was giving me prices over the phone. I sent my husband in to do a test drive, but her her pushy sales tactics turned us off even more and we bought the car from someone else. When she found out about that she screamed at me on the phone and said that was disrespectful of us to have wasted her time. I hung up the phone on her. Some of these dealers are very aggressive.
