willing to wait 2 years+ for a Toyota is exactly how Toyota knows they have the consumers by the balls and can do whatever they want. They also know they can get away with it as the #1 automaker in the world. People putting down deposit for a Toyota then wait a year or more is insane. They can't even meet demands and yet they're introducing like half a dozen new model lines in the next 5 years? They're just trying to saturate the market interest with phantom products so people won't shop other brands while they wait for "production" and consumers are eating up the "wow" factor.

Toyota always stood for reliability. That is why people were willing to shell out $2-3k more for a Toyota vehicle over the competition. If reliability drops to the level of the competition and the dealerships still want to charge they have always charged. This is poor management decision making.

What makes it even more funny is that Nissan has been building trucks here in the US since 1983 (both Titan plus Frontier and even going back to the Hardbody days). I've been driving Nissan since age 10! I do NOT understand the negative opinions on them. It's like Nissan makes one mistake like the CAR CVT and they are all garbage forever, but Toyota can build Tacoma frames that literally rust in half, and all is forgiven and forgotten, like some high school football jock who can get away with things no one else can.
The Nissan trucks have all been die-hard workers. The "million mile Frontier " on the TFL channel is amazing. I paid $2500 for my truck used, with 204,000 miles already on it. I didn't plan to keep it 30 years for sure. But since then, I have not put another $2500 in repairs into it, unless you count tires and other wear stuff. What an insane value. I recently drove it 10 hours to the ocean and back. I feel like I'm getting away with something, driving past repair shops and seeing trucks in there with repairs that cost more than my whole vehicle.
I checked out the new Frontier at the dealer. I can't afford it, but it's the only one I would buy or trust at this point. But where is the 6 speed stick? Nissan manuals seem to be a lifetime transmission. A big loss for people like me who NEVER want to replace an expensive automatic.

The following may have contributed to the dealer abuses of customers:
    1. Toyota, like most other manufacturers, has required dealers build Taj Mahal facilities that increase overhead that customers pay for
    2. Shrinking gross margins from the factory force dealers to find others ways to make profits
    3. Too much focus on high tech loaded vehicles that customers are convinced they must have and thus pay for

You Sir have hit the nail RIGHT ON THE HEAD!!!! Try this one for size.... we purchased a NEW 2005 Toyota Tundra from Burnsville Toyota in Burnsville MN in 2005. It is a SR5, V-8 TRD, Double Cab, 4X4. We left General Motors after a lifetime of loyalty. Chevrolet would not fix a defect in a NEW Chevrolet Z71 4X4 so we told them to pound sand and traded for a loss to get our Tundra. We fell in LOVE with our new Toyota, so much we purchased a second one a few years later. Fast forward to the RECALL/REWORK where the NTSB forced Toyota to do for IMPROPERLY coated frames from the factory. The Recall gave Toyota 2 options. One was inspection and spraying the frames, the other is the Frame Replacement. We brought our Tundra in to Burnsville Toyota for the Recall/Rework. They inspected the frame and SPRAYED it rather than replacement as as an option in the NTSB Recall. Shortly after the dealer performed the rework, the coating they sprayed on was coming off with RUST on both the coating and Frame!!!
For MANY YEARS we have asked BOTH Burnsville Toyota and Toyota Motors of America to perform the CORRECT Rework and replace the Frame as outlined in the NTSB Recall of our Tundra. For years, BOTH have told us to pound sand!!! They tell us the Rework has been performed and that's all they are going to do. Since the spray coating started to fall off showing rust, we have asked the dealer (same one for all service, repairs & warranty - purchased from them) to inspect the Frame for the rust issue and report on the invoice. It was hit or miss weather they would do it or document it. The LAST TIME we brought our Tundra in was for the routine oil change service. I had noticed not one, but two (2) large RUST HOLES in the Frame of our Tundra. This is EXACTLY what Toyota had to do the RECALL for and why we were asking THEM to REWORK, THEIR DEFECTIVE Rework, and replace the frame. After the Oil Change service, as the Service Writer was walking me to our Tundra, I was looking over the Invoice checking for the frame inspection. They listed the request and the only thing under it for Work Performed was three letters. They were NVP. I asked the Service Writer if the Frame as inspected for the Corrosion issue that caused the RECALL. He informed me that it had in fact been done for us. I asked what they found and as told it should be on the Invoice. When I told him it said "NVP" he said that's No Visual Perforation! It was at this time I, being Disabled, and having to use a Cane to walk, stuffed my Cane tip in one of the holes and said "oh really, what's this". The Service Writer took a look, his eyes got huge and left saying he'd be right back. He returned with the Service Manager. This was like the 3rd (or so) Service Manager to hold this position since they SCREWED-UP our Tundra and performed the WRONG REPAIR/DEFECTIVE WARRANTY REPAIR! He looked at it and asked who wrote it up. The Service Writer said he did. Then he was asked who worked on it. The Service Writer told him, to which he said that Tech is NOT qualified to do a Frame Inspection. The Service Manage left and came back with an updated page for our Invoice indicating rust had been found. WOW..... this is bad, we have been telling them this for many years and now a Service Manager is taking notice! I asked for him to champion a Frame replacement for us with Toyota Motor Company USA. He said he would and then follow up. Weeks went by and nothing so we called. ONCE AGAIN, POUND SAND, they did the Recall/Rework and that's ALL they have to do!
A DEFECTIVE Frame from TOYOTA during the manufacture of this Tundra ALONG with the WRONG/DEFECTIVE Rework has left us with a GREATLY DEVALUED and UNSAFE Toyota Tundra!
YES, for the KEYBOARD warriors in their Mom's basement that will say I'm a moron for thinking Toyota will do something on a 20 year old Truck I say this, Toyota & Burnsville Toyota BOTH screwed the pooch on this one back when this truck WAS COVERED under the Warranty/Recall. BOTH Toyota & Burnsville Toyota have shirked their responsibility in the DEFECT/issue. BOTH did WRONG and NEED to make it right! BOTH performed DEFECTIVE work!
If they performed the correct repair, our 20 year old Tundra with 110,000 ACTUAL miles would be worth what the outward appearance suggests. The truck is in EXCELLENT condition for a 5-10 years old truck, let alone a 20 year old one!
Word of mouth.... BEST or WORST advertisement a company can have!!!!
NEW FRAME AT N/C Toyota..... you can still make it right and SAFE!!! Happy & SAFE customers is what you want, RIGHT?
STILL waiting after all these years Toyota!!!! Do the right thing!!!!

When I was obviously not happy with being told I could drive the truck then denied upon arrival the price jumped up with a 5k markup... I left and the next day I bought the new 2017 ZR2. They rode the "shortage" lie longer than anyone. Ford, GM, Stellantis gave up the lie well over a year ago and produced millions of vehicles. Toyota, the world's largest car manufacturer claimed until just a few months ago they could not get parts when all other manufacturers who are smaller were getting them. We all know about scale. Toyota can scale bigger than anyone, so that proves they lied and rode that lie longer than anyone. For this lie and their greed, they do need to be punished. May you continue being this honest.

Like honestly, it literally makes me question your mental sanity if you think its even possible for that at $30k. With just inflationary pressures alone, we're lucky we still have even one bare bones mid sized car for under 20k. While these ABSURD $60, $70, or even $80k+ prices (for what I would call "non luxury") trucks and suvs are absolutely unacceptable and specifically UNAFFORDABLE to the average American (especially given rates)... it beyond laughable to expect a "fully loaded" SUV for $30k or even almost for a "bare bones" SUV.
People need to wake up and read some business reports or economic reports... this isn't the 90s/2000s anymore... not even the 2010s. The cumulative effects of inflation in the last half decade have caused permanent changes to the pricing scheme Americans should expect from pretty much everything, especially car manufacturers/dealerships.

I worked for Toyota for 20 years at the dealer level,service/ parts director. I can tell you Toyota always had issues, but they were very good at resolving them quickly and with the utmost regard for customer satisfaction and retention.
I saw a change with this in the early 2000s,the product was not as good, although still very good, and the way they handled issues was very disappointing.
I still drive my 2nd gen Tundra. It has been exactly what I expected it to be,rock sold reliable, and it fits me perfectly. My wife as well had numerous Toyota models, her last was a camry hybrid, again a very reliable car, zero issues in the 7 years she owned it,but I would not buy any of the newer models, she wanted a small suv and we ended up with a CRV instead of a Rav4.
One concern was the inflated price of the Rav,the other was the cheapness of the materials, and the lack of build quality, Honda also has suffered some of these issues, but they are not over-priced vehicles, yet.
And for the first time in nearly 40 years,I had a friend recently ask my opinion on a new truck purchase ,he was down to the Tundra or an F-150, I gave my opinion of the Tundra based on my time spent with another friends 2023,I am very disappointed in the design and the quality of the new model, but when I factor in the price of the new one,it is no longer an option for me.

One thing that i found kind of disappointing with Toyota these days is its new vehicle supply in 2024. In terms of new inventory, its still too low while the competition seems to have figured out its supply chain issue and double and even quadrupled their supply since 2022. Toyota’s desirable models are still not immediately available in most dealer locations. You have to be placed in a waitlist for months to buy a new Toyota for around MSRP & even paying markups in some dealers while the competition are piling up their supply and offering discounts thousands below MSRP & low APR .
I’ve heard so many Toyota loyalists who’ve has left Toyota and ended up buying Mazda, Subaru, Honda etc because these competitors offer immediate availability & attractive incentives.

Good job on this message to Toyota, on behalf of a lot of us longtime loyal Toyota customers. My complaint, and only complaint, over purchases and longtime owner ship of a total of seven-brand new Toyota trucks dating back to 1985 when my first Toyota truck was simply called pick up. Since then, I've purchased six other trucks, including, each iteration of the Tacoma, up to my current 2022 SR5. I owned each truck an average of four years, between trade-in for a new one. Prior to my 2022, I purchased a new 2010 SR5 Tacoma that I used as my daily driver for 12 years with the usual same outstanding performance and reliability I enjoyed with all previous trucks, without a single mechanical issue ever requiring any major repairs, other than the basic required maintenances. The most important thing about my comments here, is I'm in complete agreement with your feelings about Toyota's recent and abrupt pricing on these trucks. Up until my 2022 purchase, all previous trucks were well within reasonable prices for the time and my income to comfortably afford them. Now, for my 2022 SR5 Tacoma, I paid $41,000 for a beautiful Midnight Black Metallic, with dark alloy wheels and black out package and a 2.7L I4. Here's where I'm with you on the pricing. The 4 cylinders have always maintained the right price fit for most average income customers up until these current overpriced MSRPs and dealer mark-ups and unwanted add-ons. You would be correct in stating loyal customers are slipping. I know and have several friends who have left or reluctantly thinking of leaving, what has been their favorite brand, but are now priced out and unable to afford them. Thanks again for expressing your feelings to Toyota and sharing with us.

I'm a more traditional Toyota car owner. I started with the 2000 Avalon ($25K) and put 250K miles on it and the car was in excellent running shape afterwards. The next was a 2012 Camry for $22K which I still have and I have a 2018 Camry for $25K. And I am casually looking to replace the 2012 but am in no hurry. The local dealership has not had a great supply of cars for several years and I'm waiting until they have more models on the lot. Most of the models on the lot are high-end Hybrid AWD while I always just buy the cheapest model. The local dealership has been great on service - and they are getting more efficient at it. I don't really get why people spend $50K to $75K for vehicles but they seem to be a lot more common than folks like me who just want to by inexpensive, reliable cars. My local dealer sends me offers every month or so and I just ignore them. My approach to buying is to wander around the lot when I'm there for service. As far as hybrids go, there's a $7,500 tax credit for plug-in hybrids. If Toyota did one of those on the Camry and the cost of the Hybrid system were less than $7,500, I'd take a hard look at it.
I'm not a Toyota enthusiast. I just want a boring, reliable car that lasts forever. And that's what I see on the Camry. I've heard that this is the case for the Corolla too.

I’ve owned four Toyota vehicles and they have all been excellent. Previously, a 2011 Camry and 13 Tundra. Presently, a 18 Camry and 19 Tundra TRD Off Road. I have had zero issues with any of them.
Unfortunately, Toyota has really dropped the ball with the third generation Tundra. Of course you might have some problems with an all new vehicle, but what has been happening with the new Tundra is unacceptable. Now I’m seeing several reports of engine failure on the Tundra. My 18 Camry is a completely redesigned vehicle and it has been absolutely perfect.

They introduced nearly half a dozen new products since the pandemic. Unable to keep up with demands and making new products does not make sense. Honda meanwhile has kept the same product line and just redesigned/refresh them. My only gripe with Honda is the stupid cylinder deactivation on the V6's. They need to get rid of that NOW so they can fully take advantage of Toyota's downfall. Honda can be the market leader for reliability if they chose to again (well not for trucks, but least everything else)

Data regarding CO2 emissions is wrong here. Hybrids save emissions over the life of the vehicle so the initial amount of pollution is eclipsed by what the hybrid and electric save over, say, 100,000 miles. Hybrid will also probably prove to be very reliable just as it is in the Prius. Toyota isn't new to making hybrid powertrains. Also, a large portion of the battery can be recycled. Toyota really needs to watch this video. I think you have really hit the nail on the head. I was really excited abut the new 2024 Land Cruiser coming out but unfortunately everything I have been hearing is that dealerships are already planning on their price hikes to make additional money off of the loyal customers. I would love to get the new LC but when the price hikes are going to bring it into LX 550 territory, I think it makes it easy to make the decision on which vehicle I will get. I was on the fence on which one I would get but Lexus has always been loyal with pricing with previous purchase I have made and offered great financing for that loyalty. So I guess I won't be able to even consider the new LC with the price gouging going on and will instead get the LX 550 Overtrain. Maybe someday I will get the LC but it will be a preowned purchase from a private party and not from a greedy dealership. I hope Toyota finds a way to address this issue in the near future so I can get back on the fence and really make a decision based on the vehicle and not based on inflated pricing driving me away from Toyota products. Thanks untamed for pointing this out to Toyota.

  • @joruckus

I respectfully disagree with the notion that Toyota is losing its loyal customers. Criticizing the latest generation of trucks, which only hit the market in 2022, without considering the short timeframe since their release seems unfair. It's important to acknowledge that every new generation experiences teething problems in its initial years, and it's wise for consumers to exercise caution during this period regardless of the manufacturer.
Moreover, we can't ignore the unprecedented challenges posed by the recent pandemic, which undoubtedly affected research and development efforts across the automotive industry. Add to that the governmental push towards hybrid and electric platforms, and it's clear that Toyota, like its competitors, faced unique hurdles during this time.
While I share concerns about dealerships inflating prices, a practice detrimental to both customers and Toyota's reputation, I believe the brand's resilience and commitment to its fan base should not be overlooked. As a devoted Toyota enthusiast since the '90s, I've witnessed the company's ability to bounce back from challenges time and again.
Let's not forget the remarkable strides Toyota has made with its recent offerings, from the adventurous new Land Cruiser and 4Runner to the impressive GR lineup. These developments demonstrate a genuine effort to cater to the diverse needs and preferences of their loyal supporters, a level of engagement rarely seen elsewhere in the industry.
While there are valid criticisms to be made, I remain confident in Toyota's ability to adapt and thrive while staying true to its core values and fan base.
