      Ford doesn't have a problem with demand. We waited over 2 and a half years just for our Bronco Raptor to get into production. There are dozens of people who want Raptor F150's and most dealers only get a few allocations, which is why they are going for 40-60k over MSRP.
      Ford doesn't care about their customers. I'm considering a TRX for that sole reason.

  • @MarkChampion-ky9bs
    @MarkChampion-ky9bs 9 месяцев назад +39

    I agree that the Raptor R comes basically fully-optioned. The TRX does require a few packages to compete. Even with said packages, the cost is less than the Raptor R.
    My original talking point was the actual transaction price of the Raptor R. As of 7/29/23 there are 4 Raptor Rs available nationwide on Autotrader. The listed price was $50,000 above MSRP. A reply to my original Comment indicated a markup of $100,000 on a Raptor R earlier this week.
    Currently on Autotrader there are 341 RAM TRXs with the Level 2 package. The Level 2 package evens up the features with the Raptor R. All of these TRXs are priced $110,000 or lower. 32 of these TRXs are priced below $100,000. Both trucks are excellent. The issue with the Raptor R is price and will continue to be as long as Ford dealers continue to gauge their customers. Because of that the TRX will remain a better value than the Raptor R.

    • @Matt-tt4cu
      @Matt-tt4cu 9 месяцев назад +2

      Spot on. Even at base MSRP the Raptor R is more expensive than a *fully* loaded TRX - ask me how I know lol. And the reality is the R will always be more expensive as time goes on. The used market will still reflect the ADM the original R owner is trying to recover. I got my '23 TRX for $11k UNDER MSRP... lol... So I took the funds needed to cover ADM of the R, and added more stuff to my TRX

      This has to do with the demand for the vehicles. Raptor R is simply more desired by people, thus its market value is higher. The fact that ram TRX has over 300 available on auto trader while being cheaper shows that people really don’t want them that much.

    I'm really between the chairs. I love the supercharger whine of the TRX and the aggressive look, but I also love the R. At the moment, I can't decide which one I would buy.
    The plus for the TRX, is the much better availability here in Germany (imported from the US), compared to the Raptor R (also import) with the long wait list in the US.
    Right now, I could get the 2023 TRX in the Havoc Edition for €147.900, but no dealership has the 2023 Raptor R available and when asked, they sometimes predict the price to be €200.000 to €250.000, which is insane.
    In case you are wondering, importing Pickup Trucks is pretty expensive here in Germany.
    Transport & Insurance is about €3000 to €5000.
    We have to pay 22 % customs penalty for importing a Pickup Truck and at the end, the total sum gets also 19 % VAT on top.
    So the 2023 TRX Havoc Edition, for €147k, is a fantastic price.

    Incredible! I understand that it is a limited production vehicle but nearly doubling the price only cements consumer's opinions that many dealers deserve never to be trusted. I wish the reviews from TFL would acknowledge the reality of pricing for the public for the Raptor R that is in their fleet. A vehicle that they purport to only cost $114K that most likely bypassed any involvement from a dealer.

  • @mitchstein288
    @mitchstein288 9 месяцев назад +7

    I love the fact that you guys actually take these high dollar performance trucks off-road and use them as intended.
    At first I thought as well that they should've done more with the Raptor R other than a badge, some stickers and a slightly bigger cowl. However, I've changed my mind. I love the subtlety. For one, I'm not a huge fan of gawdy trucks. Just look at that trend of putting on low pro tires on huge, wide wheels and putting on underglow. Not for me, sorry. I really don't feel like I need to announce to anyone else what I'm driving. If they know, they know. I think it looks way classier keeping it subdued.
    Plus, think of this. 20+ years down the road, these will be rare trucks indeed. I like the fact that you'll have to get a little closer to it see if this actually a Raptor R or "just" a Raptor. Think like Grand National vs. GNX and you'll get the vibe.
    Also, I'm totally with Tommy on manufacturers producing a more budget minded off-roader. Think of like a combination of a F-150 XL and Raptor. Keep the suspension, all the off-road goodies, and a high performance engine. That may even be desirable for some businesses that need a more rugged and off-road worthy truck that need to get to places that are off the beaten path. And yes, Roman, to your point, you can go buy an older generation Raptor and save money, but there is something to be said about buying a new pickup. Sometimes it's just nice having a new truck. Everything is clean, nice, not worn, and by being the only owner, you know how it's been taken care of.

While the Raptor R sound better pulling away from you, with it's more higher pitch race sound exhaust. As far as looks, TRX definitely has more presence and it's bigger as a T-Rex should be. 110k sounds ridiculous for either the raptor r or the trx
    But in reality if you figure up what it would cost to take a regular f150 or ram 1500 and build either of them into one of these you’d be spending closer to 200k
    Engine swap
    Axle upgrades
    Suspension upgrade
    Computer upgrade
    Transmission upgrade
    And so on and so on
    But if you do happen to drop 200k I’d imagine you’d go for a better suspension than either offer
    But these trucks from the factory can still tow. Reasonable for what they are
    It’s a small market but the market is there and we all want one or the other
    I grateful to be in a time where they will build something like this for us the enthusiasts
    Love or hate ford and ram they are at least attempting to listen to their customers and deliver badass vehicles
    There’s always room for improvement
    But my opinion is that they both built amazing trucks that that are extremely capable and taking into account what you get for your money I think they did it for a reasonable price tag

    Used to 30-40k for a truck? Hell no. I remember years ago when TFL truck started complaining that 60-70k for a heavy duty pickup was way too much. 50k for a decently equipped half-ton. That was literally near the beginning of the channel. You guys said it was inflation and I kept arguing that yes, it's inflation but it was self imposed because back then the price to manufacture hadn't changed and the average American wage hadn't changed. Wages are still basically the same and vehicles have gotten more expensive. The dealer markups are disgusting. I love the vehicles but I'd literally have to take out a second mortgage to get one. The only thing good that's changed is our house was just under 300k and now it's worth almost 600k. No way I borrow against that though. I'll move in about five years and pay cash for most of it and probably get a used pickup.
