Go for it, look at a few schools requirements and when classes expire, it may not be as much as you think. Either way sit down and plan how long it will take, go for it and you are going to look back and be like, that time went by. It took me 7 years from pre reqs to completion of my RN. But hey it’s done. The time goes by.

What time frame do they expire? I did a lot of the pre-reqs straight outta high school back in 2009. And I just retrieved my transcript from the community college, but it's been so long I'm thinking they might not accept it & I'll have to redo. Not too worried about having to take a placement test though...might have to just brush up on memorizing some of the algebra formulas is all...

This is a great video. I also recommend taking advantage of taking a withdraw versus failing the course or not doing well. The loss of money short term is better than having to take semesters worth of classes to show improvement in GPA. Also, if you’re planning for a nursing degree that doesn’t include all of the hard sciences do yourself a favor and take them anyway if you want to give yourself the option of NP, PA, MD, routes post-prerequisite/ or nursing. Sciences and working full-time is a recipe for disaster most times.

For my prerequisites, all I had to do was complete the science prerequisites (Anatomy, Physiology, and Microbiology). I had to learn the hard way on not taking 2 science classes in a semester. I took anatomy and chemistry at the same time to get it done. I highly don't recommend it. At the school I was going to, chemistry was a prerequisite to get into physiology and microbiology. I did feel like I did better in chemistry than I did in anatomy, but then I did better in physiology and microbiology.

Graduating with my LPN in 2 weeks! Taking a couple classes this summer and fall that I need to bridge over to ADN, than bridging over in the summer of next year only needing 2 more semesters. I say do LPN route first if you plan on continuing! Even though I’ll be seen as a “tech” in the hospital, I want to work in the ER and I’ll learn so much there. 3rd and 4th semester are centered around MedSurge so me working as a nurse/tech in the meantime will help me grow my skills.

You probably have to also take biology if you haven’t already, it’s typically a pre req for micro and A&P. Some schools also make sure you have a certain math completed (I believe mine was intermediate algebra) before you start the chemistry class. It’s crazy that there are pre reqs for your pre reqs. I would check with an advisor to see if this is the case at your school.
Good luck with everything, it may take a lil time to get these class done but it’s worth it. Make a plan and it will be done before you know it.

Hey there, I have NOTHING to offer about chemistry except take it with ‘easier’ classes or even on its own, get a tutor, do any and all extra credit or lil fluff assignments if they have them, so you can make up for tests you may score bad on. I had to take this class twice and get a tutor. It actually becomes interesting once you can dedicate enough time to it but boy oh boy if you get behind it’s hard to get back on track. Also, if you feel like you can’t get a B or better just withdraw (don’t wait too long to drop the class or it will drop your GPA, drop the class during the add drop period…if you have to). Do some research on the best teachers to take, you can try rate my professor or ask some of your classmates that may have taken it or your advisor. Good luck!!!

Should I take loans go to school full time fast track LPN program and throw myself into it all the way or work part time/school part time? Hi there, you could start off as part time and see how that goes and if need be you can quit to focus on school. If you can avoid loans that’s always great, but look at the numbers and see what’s best for you (maybe even consider paying half for school half with loans, you can also get financial aid too right?
Also check and see if they have a wioa program in your area. I know a lot of students got like $5,000-$10,000 to pay for school when they got into this wioa program. Also, remember that some jobs will offer tuition reimbursement once you graduate and get ur first nursing job.
Either way you won’t know what you can do until you do it, get in and see what you need to do as you go. It’s great that you have a good savings, you can do it!
      Good luck!

Sorry if you answered this already. What GED books do you recommend to study for the placement tests?

I don't have a specific one I recommend, just make sure you do the practice exam and time yourself like you are taking the real test. Good luck!!

It was and if someone would have told me it would have taken that long I probably wouldn't have gone for it, but hey the time went by and now I'm done and working as a RN.

Thank you so much! I was confused on if I had to do prerequisites or not because I took calculus and science in high school but I’ve been out for almost 6 years lol and thank you for not rambling and getting straight to the point. I need to do my taxes and then apply for financial aid and I can start this journey. Thank you queen!

Good luck with everything, hopefully you can get through pre reqs quickly, they are one of those things that can take forever to get done but once you’re in the nursing program time flies.
      Thanks for watching
