Yes sir! It was a thing of beauty back then to switch back & forth. It made my Saturday nights great! I miss it so much and I would love to see them do it again!
I remember when this came on. there was a Halloween party that I was not invited to but when Jim Bob said forget that Halloween party and party with us I felt like he was speaking to me. made me feel better so I watched the whole thing
I watched this whole marathon back in Oct 1998, it was great because it was on Halloween and it started at 8pm and ended at 6am. Monstervision was cool because of Joe Bob
+ctuna84 Yeah, I hung out at my buddies house that night. We drank a 30 case of beer and watched all of the movies and rolled laughing at Joe Bob's interludes. We also scared the $h!t out of kids coming to the door trick or treating which was a double bonus lol. It was probably the most fun I've ever had watching TV that I can remember. TNT should do a 20th anniversary of the Friday the 13th marathon in 2018 and re-show the movies and bring Joe Bob back to host it. That'd be a blast!
it's because (as with all things) the people who run TV now are the ones in it for the money or the career. They don't actually care about creating anything entertaining, that just happens because they think it might make them money. I'd say your "fun TV" is just the internet now.
lol no.... look, nobody who made a classic movie knew what people wanted to see, they didn't care about what people wanted to see, they made something because they wanted their vision to exist, the movie that ran through their brain. Whether it was successful or not was an after thought. You have the CEO of MTV saying "the youth don't want to watch music on TV anymore, which is why we show reality shows"..... the CEO of MUSIC TELEVISION said that with a straight face. People who know how to make money and use branding and advertising to their advantage rise to power in whatever field they can regardless of their interest or lack of in said field. If Steve Jobs were alive today, he'd be trashing the latest Apple stuff and sacking everyone in a senior position.
Maybe there's not so much goofy stuff on, but the idea that there isn't incredible stuff on TV is just inaccurate. TV has never been as good as it is right now.
I feel ya. I guess if you liked procedurals, than maybe TV isn't the best right now. But for longer bingeable movie-like shows, they've really got it together. Lost is a good example of how it can go off the rails, and I think a lot of showrunners/execs/writers learned from it as well. I loved it all the way through, but w/e. I get the criticism. Now when I hear about a good show from a lot of people, it usually is pretty good. Narcos and Stranger Things are 2 good examples. Both on netflix if you're interested. Not having ads really helps with staying interested for me.
Friendly reminder as many of us come back to re-watch in October that Joe Bob's been tearing it up on Shudder since 2018 with his new show, The Last Drive-In. Uncensored and unedited movies, and Joe Bob's as sharp as ever alongside Darcy the Mail Girl and his filming crew!
Cinemassacre once again took me back to the past... Joe Bob Briggs and Monster Vision was a huge part of my childhood... so glad that Cinemassacre felt the same sentiment
Someone needs to slap every available full MonsterVision episode onto discs and sell them on ioffer and other similar sites. There is already one MonsterVision DVD set on ioffer but there should be more. This show is just pure gold.
I was a night owl in a no rules household where I pretty much stayed up as late as I wanted and watched cable television. As a result, Joe Bob Briggs was one of my voices of reason, a static father figure watching over me at night and telling me all sorts of trivia to unleash upon my peers. I wouldn't say Rusty was my imaginary mother figure, she was the lady that daddy spent a lot of time around, almost a secret mommy, but not quite. I think collectively the Kids in the Hall, was my mama. Another late night treat for the night owl freaks. Plenty of other destinations in the old pre-youtube days, but Joe Bob is my papa and I sort of get into a human skin wearing chainsaw frenzy about it. Stay outta my shed.
I remember I tried to stay up for this marathon, I almost made it before falling asleep as Tommy was coming out of the Van in Part V when I woke up, Gilligan's Island was starting
Cool. If you have any other ones, don't let anything happen to those tapes! Also, if yes, to the last question, what do we have to do to get them on youtube?
Takes me back I miss MonsterVision. I used to stay up late for this and watch till my mom caught me. I Know I remember this because Joe was up in arms at the BS edits. This MST3K,and Elvira
Thank you for this. I remember this marathon. I set my vcr to record this while I went out that Halloween and ended up coming home before the end the first movie because I decided I'd rather watch this marathon.
Holy shit. This was hillarious. I love when the camera fell to the floor because the camera man went to the bathroom and Joe bob briggs was following it to the ground.
These were the days! Only thing I didn’t like about the Monstervision era was that the show was on TNT and all the nudity, profanity and much of the gore was chopped out the movies. It’s why I like Joe Bob’s Shudder show much more. The movies are uncut and there is no filter, so Joe Bob gets to let loose on the cuss words! Haha! I remember this Friday the 13th marathon. Sadly, Part 5 was pretty much unwatchable because the gore was virtually gone due to TNT’s censoring (in addition to what was cut by the MPAA). The odd thing is that the version USA Network used to run had just about all the gore and violence intact (at least the stuff that made it into the final movie) but they only cut out the nudity and profanity. Never understood why some networks were more lenient than others. It’s weird because the Supreme Court previously ruled that networks don’t have censor stuff after 10PM yet they still do. I think it was Jimmy Dore who said they do it because they’re pussies. LOL! Anyway, I knew they weren’t going to show Part 4 when this marathon came on. FX had the rights to Part 4 at the time and showed it earlier that day. If you had TV Guide back then you would’ve known that. Yet Joe Bob kept saying they were showing six movies. I wonder if he knew they were skipping Part 4 and was simply following a script or maybe he didn’t truly know they didn’t have it and didn’t do the math properly with the hours and therefore his reaction was genuine when his buddy Ernie told him it was missing. I don’t know. Also, was Joe Bob under the impression that Tom Savini did the FX for every movie in the Friday the 13th series? He only did Part 1 and Part 4. Didn’t Joe Bob read the credits? Savini even went on record in interviews saying he turned down working on Part 2 to work on The Burning instead. They didn’t offer him Part 3 but they offered him Part 4 because it was thought to be “The Final Chapter” at the time and Savini was enthusiastic to come back on board to kill Jason who he created in the first one. I love and respect Joe Bob, but sometimes he makes oversights that have me scratching my head. Like when he said a “cleaver” was what killed Kevin Bacon in Part 1 even though it was clearly a broad head arrow. How could you even impale someone through a bed with a meat cleaver? Meat cleavers don’t have pointed tips. LOL!
Perfect companion to any Friday the 13th marathon. Makes me miss the simple days, when cable channels actually went above and beyond. You had to exist in the present, and experience this stuff when it was aired, along with everyone else.
_Friday the 13th: Part IV: The Final Chapter_ was shown separately on _MonsterVision_ almost a year earlier as part of the double-feature on the Dec. 20, 1997 broadcast.

Joe Bob talking about Freddy vs Jason being a possibility for the future but "he'll believe it when he sees it". Well we got it Joe Bob. And it was...about what you'd expect.

When you realize that streaming movie means no commercials but it also mean no reason for Joe Bob to be there 😢
Joe bob is not a comercial
@claymitchell5007 Joe Bob came on during the comercial breaks.
looks like Tangier Casino's Food and Beverage Manager Sam Ace Rothstein made 5 accounts and disliked this.
