    New subscriber here...Just discovered Dr. Lori and loving it! I must say that one of the first things I learned about collecting glass/ceramics/pottery is NEVER hold those pieces by the handles as they are the weakest point of the pieces and break so easily, that's why so many pieces over the years have lost value due to missing & broken handles. I was so nervous watching you swing that Majolica piece by the handle that I realized it gave me great anxiety. LOL Keep up the good work, looking forward to binge watching your shows ! Thanks !

    Hi Dr. Lori. Love your spirit. I have a set of 6 chinese bowls that are so pretty, had two appraisers on Just Answer tell me that were worth 20.00 each but people on a facebook antique site said $10.00 for all. Wish I could afford to send you pics.

    • @DrLoriV
      @DrLoriV  5 лет назад

      These people are not experts. My fees are low to review photos compared to the money you can lose by not knowing the truth or relying on people who might have an agenda not in your favor. Do you know people often lie about value so they can try to get your item cheaply? Or, maybe they are just having fun with you. Many of my events offer a free appraisal paid for by the event's host. Or, submit photos to me and if the bowls are not worth my appraisal fee, I tell you at no charge. That way you have an idea if they are worth $20 each or $10 for all. Happy to help.

In other words, I have a lot of antique dishes for around 100 years ago, which based on your videos I guess they might be super expensive. Hello Dr., I have this four piece white ceramic sugar bowl, creamer, and two tiny little salt n pepper shakers and they are marked as "imported from Japan for Dorothy C. Thorpe California" or something to that effect. Lol it's not in front of me at the moment. Someone said to me it was worth a fortune because it was imported for her, but are basically blanks as they are just pure white ceramic, but my goodness they are pretty. Is this person correct ? I'm new at this and pretty green as I contracted Lyme and had to close shop on my landscape business, so I'm trying to figure my life out now and see if this is for me. Thank you !!! O and I can not find anything close to what I have of hers on eBay, Amazon, Etsy, etc. Mostly metal brimmed glass.

    Wow I have seen Minton pottery in Canada a couple years ago and never knew that it was that valuable. .in Canada there are a lot of yard sales and thrift store that sell things next to nothing.
    I mean come on up to Toronto to Vancouver and you'll see what I mean. And in Vancouver and this time of the year there's hardly any snow in fact today we don't have any snow. But people are having outdoor markets
    And I just bought a antique doll which I'm going to get you to appraise doctor Lori and I only paid one Buck for it at a thrift store. These people didn't know that it was a valuable doll. I recognized it and I said to myself hey that's cheaper than I cup of coffee from Starbucks lol. I think you would have I hay day up in Canada.
    And especially in Vancouver B.C. that's a lot of Asian art and pottery. And if you go further north to the smaller towns you'll find a lot of Old Clay antique vases.
    But Victoria B.C.which is the capital city of Canada is were you will find a lot of British people and talk about Antiques and especially Qualicum Beach. Vancouver Island is full of how many antiques. So step over the Border young lady : )
