  • 12 years ago I had an idea for a medium format landscape photography project with my Mamiya RZ67 as an Arthurian Quest.
In today’s video you join me and my squire Miles on our coincidence laden film photography project journeying to Glastonbury and Tintagel, diving into Medieval Mythology and continuing this long form photo project made on a well travelled Mamiya and some Kodak Portra.
This is not adventure travel photography, but it is an adventure! Landscape photography isn't usually my thing, but some of my previous photo books have had landscape photography projects in them.
It's a photo walk with a difference, and being some kind of magnet for the uncanny of course something really weird happens on this quest....COSMIC WEIRD!
A wizard is never late, nor is he early. He arrives precisely when he means to.'
With thanks to Miles Fraser for filming and to Michael of the band Circulus for providing the magic and the music to the video. Thanks to Merlin for the chat.... shame he couldn't help me with the RUclips algorithm!
I hope you enjoyed coming questing with Miles and I. I’ll be adding to this photography project over coming months. If you have any ideas for places where a questing Knight and his squire may visit please leave suggestions in the comments!
(I had to re-edit the video due to song copyright stuff... which is a shame as the band okayed it but the label didn't).

If you enjoyed that check out another photo walk, but this one with a Bronica SQ-A in a boring housing estate trying to make something from nothing!

Oh and I forgot to say that RUclips have rolled out A/B thumbnail testing! Which means that you can upload three different thumbnails for the video and after a little while it tells you which one was the most popular! So which thumbnail did you get?

Entertaining video as always. Polarizing filters, very useful things.

Great vid! Not been to Tintagel but it reminded me slightly of Glasto and Boscastle. Visited Boscastle very briefly on way home from Rock last year and it was beautiful. Had a very cool Museum of Witchcraft/ Magic with amazing exhibits.
Not sure if there's links to Arthurian legend there but a quick Google alleges "The dramatic harbour village is one of several places cited as the place Arthur's body was taken after the Battle of Camlann. From here he was transported across the water to the mythical island of Avalon."
If I had a cool cadaver to take around towns of the UK I'd make sure it paid a visit to Boscastle before laying it to rest.
Like the idea of triplets in the project. Look forward to seeing further shiz 👌

Yeah it was so bizarre! He's such a character. I tried pitching to the only magazine I know that may cover something about going to visit him in Glastonbury and they didn't bother getting back to me. But yeah, it's kind of a fascinating world of wizardry I don't know much about.

Call me old fashioned, but pulling swords out of stones or anvils is no basis for a system of government. Supreme executive power derives from a mandate from the masses, not from some farcical sword pulling ceremony.
    Excellent photos and questing, though!
