I have been trying some other photography channels, but it became clear to me why your channel is still thriving, despite the overall photography decline on RUclips. Everything you say always has this entertaining tune to it, while most others just talk in a boring normal way. You are a natural entertainer, even if you talk as mundane as can be.
Newfoundland is stunning! My folks started out in the north west of the island 200 years ago and while my line escaped the rest are still catching fish and talking funny 😁. I'm loving your exploration of the place 🙏
Thanks for shearing your trip around Newfoundlandgavin, It is always appreciated to give your tips and knowledge on composition and techniques, love the image of the huts, I prefer the square crop, look forward the the next one.
I loved Change & Fogo islands last summer! Bonavista was epic, with the lighthouse, seascapes, and whales 🐋 were all around, even by the rocks!! Im looking forward to each of your videos!! 👍👍
Pointiest sea stack? You’ve clearly never been to the Nikon seastack in Plena, that’s the wrong kind of pointy you don’t want to take photos of seastacks like that.
I couldn't help but think it would be a good idea to get Brent gazing out to the horizon on that sea stack. The weather seems a tad chilly for summer. We drove across the island in September, visiting Twillingate, Bonavista etc, and it was about 17C. You're getting hit with crazy temps. Great video again guys!
Well, I don't know how many boket fruits are available, but you could easily add some donuts with a catadioptric telephoto. They're cheap, that's why I had one for a bit.
That sea stack was amazing and you got great pictures of it. The Newfoundland Tourist Board really should be licencing some of the images from this trip
I'm surprised the gulls didn't go after your drone around those stacks, Gavin! The ones around the Washington Coast are vicious! Could never get that close without risking an attack followed by a little dip in the ocean.
Did you say you've got lemony fresh balls?? Amanda must be thrilled! 😏 Newfoundlanders are a strange breed but some of my favorite people. There are a few remote islands off the cost of Maine where you will definitely get some strange looks from all the cousins! I'm looking forward to the fog on Fogo next week! 😶🌫
Hi Gavin, Fogo means Fire in Portuguese, and by the way Nova Scotia, Nova means New in Portuguese, you should investigate, right after the fruit shapes.😉😏
Enjoying your series on Newfoundland. Cable John Cove was amazing when I was there, but I really wish I had better light. I was staying in Paradise, near St Johns, and the drive up to get there for sunrise would have been about 4 hours. If I was going to get up at 2:30 AM, I wanted a guarantee of a spectacular sunrise, and it turns out that in Newfoundland...there's no such thing, LOL. Still trying to figure out how to get down to the beach in that area. Some of the most amazing coastline I have ever seen!
Amanda, I am anxiously awaiting the arrival of my new book from you. I posted the cheque only to find out currency regulations here down under may have slowed it down a bit. I was thrilled to find a Pizza Hut box on the doorstep. After you said that Amanda was packing the books in Pizza boxes, I was heart broken to find that the Uber delivery driver had eaten it themself.
Another great video. I think the only acceptable bokeh fruit is clearly a kiwi. A green kiwi, not the expensive golden ones. If the lights in your bokeh are not the shape of a hairy green kiwi, are you even trying?
OK, fair comment. Your photography is fantastic. Great eye, great skill. However, you did say there was too much midground to get the seaweed and the cabins in the shot. All you had to do was lower your tripod to compress the midground. Perhaps you were feeling a wee bit tripped out at the time. Peace and hugs phototripper.
Ferry in BC for $50? lmaooooo It's like $200 from Tswassen to Duke Point. Never forget how much the BC gov't hates its residence lol. Hey, where's my book anyway! Hard to enjoy it if I don't have one! Great vid as always Mr. fototripper, thanks!
Great video again! Why are there soooooo many diminutive keyboard warriors? Out of focus balls are definitely a personal preference, and all well adjusted commenters will respect your preferences. 😂
In the UK, that ‘thing’ that you couldn’t identify in the water, we call that ‘effluent’ & its ‘thanks’ to the unique way our water companies now fund their massive profits….
You'd be surprised what can happen when your not looking at an embedded natural formation. I once had some trees in the Caribbean move on me over night!
FIY: They are an actual species of trees that can actually uproot themselves and move over several days if there is a threat such as road work or login! It's is a real thing!
I received Stories Within Stories book. I definitely enjoyed all the great images, and appreciated all of the detail related to capturing the images and other commentary. All in all, it is truly an excellent book and read.
LOL re bokeh. In support, let me say I own the Plena and don't give a sh*t about the shape of the points of light in the bokeh :) The shot in question was stuplendousness, sir! I'm amazed you didn't get complaints instead about calling Newfoundland the "Maritimes." LOL I've, honestly!, seen fights nearly break out by 'from away' folks calling Newfoundland the Maritimes :)
One would have thought you had learnt your lesson, making grievous errors in the last video, but no! You’ve done it again almost immediately in this one too! “Possibly the best photography book every written after the first one”….surely you meant “the best after Chasing Awe…..& after Uncle Grumpy’s & Mr Heaton’s multiple books?”
My wife and I want to go to Newfoundland because of that pointy sea stack. We live in Australia, but have been to Canada quite a few times (mostly to B.C.)
Looks like the Hassy survived the dry out. I've been shooting a lot of 9x16 lately. That pointy sea stack would be a great subject. Interested to know how your workshop participant's image came out. The last pano of that sea stack with the bird in it was great. Red buildings were great. I also loved your point of view on the bokeh police. Nicely done. I look forward to next week. Is FOGO "Fear of ...Getting Old" or something? ;-) Happy trails.
Glad to see that it's not just the North of England that's been having pants weather. However, we don't have your scenery to compensate, just pit ponies to guide us around the gloom that is summer.
Well now my good man…I would never second guess any man’s view on the best balls in a photo. Stand your ground, lol. Keep the shutter button pressed and the great content coming 🙌👍📷
On behalf of all Nikon shooters lemme just apologize for dudeman and say: you're absolutely entitled to like whatever fruit shaped bokeh balls you choose. Did he missed the part where you had qualified it was the best you had ever seen?? Or was English his second language??

That is one pointy sea stack ! And that little bush or tree on top of it is, wait for it, the icing on the cake (Boom-tish). Thanks Gavin.

You should ask Adam Gibbs for some tips on Bokeh. After all, he was Landscape Photographer of the Year. 😄

Love this series sorry about the weather we just kind of grin and bear it here for better or worse.
I just got Amanda’s autograph and a unicorn sticker in the mail. Never been happier. I’m framing this Canada Post label!

Kinda lemon-shaped, innit? 😂😂😂
I think its more crusty and Chapatti shaped!

I bet that was really Heaton talking about Lemon Shaped balls.
Thats definitely seaweed! Theres lots of that along the waters of the west coast and northern peninsula of the island.
Is this a recent trip? You look like you’re dressed for winter. It’s 100º F here. Sure looks refreshing.
It was May
Can confirm. Thumbnail made me go “wait, he got an R3???” 😃👍🏼
Gotcha!
two subjects to avoid in polite company - politics, and bokeh preferences

So jealous that you have a very understanding spouse. I ask for one but Santa didn't deliver in my last three Christmas.

There have been many requests. Day job gets in the way...

First like!!!
Can we have a video dedicated to acceptable fruit shapes for bokeh 😂
Is it Summer, it looks like winter?
Why was there no iceburg @ Bonavista this year?
Because they were all further North as you'll see in a future video ;)
Still looking for the lens to give me that opal fruits bokeh.
I miss Opal Fruits. Probably banned now.
Isn't sun set always happening somewhere?
