Amazing results, pro makes a nice 3/4 swing who'd have thought that would ever happen!!! Make a new video with an over the top slicer getting the same result and I would be tempted.

Well, my first range session with the GEM and it truly is “all that”.
Swung it a few times in my living room and thought it didnt feel much different from my regular swing (unsure if that was a good or bad thing), then headed off to the range on a bit of a windy, rainy day. I did the 10 practice swings (used PW), then tossed off the rod and took a real swing and time after time, baby draws and probably a good 10-15 yards longer than my normal PW….the bigger news is that each swing felt effortless, meaning I didnt try to kill it, just did the “toe up on BS, toe up on FS” mantra. Then tried same with my 5 iron…10 practice swings, then normal swing and pured probably 3-4 out of 5 shots and again effortless. I then tried with driver, which I thought would not work as well as irons, because I dont see many of the reviews mentioning driver all that much and I was just hammering my drives.
Wife then joins me on the range. She has a pretty decent swing, but absolutely hates her 7 iron (unsure why,just says she cant hit it) and I initially watch her attempting to hit it and she’s maybe 110-120 and mainly weak fades. I then have her do the routine with the GEM, and within 2-3 swings, she starts hitting baby draws and now her 7 iron is going 135-140. She’s also shocked.
Some pros and cons:
Pros:
1) you get INSTANT feedback from the GEM. Doesn’t take a millions swings to start to see results
2) Pure quality machining. It appears as if the GEM is hand tooled on a machine and made in Scotland, so not a Chinese knock off or cheaply made item
3) The release just feels unforced with the GEM. One of my biggest faults was always forcing the right hand to turn over which can weak havoc w my swing.
Cons:
1) Having to screw the long GEM rod on and off each time is a bit of a pain in the arse and initially installing the GEM is also not 1-2-3, meaning takes a couple mins. Unsure why these guys didnt use one of those push button easy on/easy off things for putting the rod on and off
2) Because the machining of the GEM is hand tooled, there were some metal burrs left on top of screw holes that could easily cut or scratch you. They need to run a sander or file the burrs
3) They should make the carry pouch both bigger and more secure. Easy for pieces to fall out and while it fits all the parts when you take the whole thing apart each time, I like keeping the metal ball attached (no reason to unattach it), but then if you leave the ball on, the rod sticks out of the carry bag….just not the best and I may try to figure out a better pouch on my own.
4) Although I read the instructions on use of the shorter rods, I’m still not sure I get when to use the longer vs the shorter rods. I just stuck with the longer one for now.
Number one thing, at least for me, is doing the “toe up on the BS and toe up on follow through” and just letting the club release more naturally. Just let the club release, meaning dont force anything.
All that being said, this is EASILY my best purchase of a training aid for golf Ive ever seen after 30 years of playing this great game. Playing a round tomorrow so will see how it translates to the course, but that’s on me, not the GEM😊

Wow! Wow! It took about two weeks to arrive but the company keeps you informed. Attaching to the club is simple, two knurled bolts which are easy to hand tighten. Swing until it feels right and note the club position is perfect. When the swing feels normal take 10 practice swings then reach for another club without the gem. Draw, draw, draw. The balls land in the same spot. Steve I used your discount code and bought based on this video and the price he with Ian W. What a cracking piece of kit.

just recieved my gem took a little longer then expected but it is what it is, been swinging it for a bit,you feel when swing is wrong becuase club becomes out of balance and diffucult to swing,and when done right it just flows...kudos it does what you said it does

I bought it. I am 15 handicap and early days but today I hit draws and loved it. My feel is that when you swing over the top or manipulate your hands it just tells you. I will report again but so far I am very excited.

Hi Steve; to better demonstrate this, you should have a high handicapper doing it given the fact that you already have the proper swing & don't need the assistance from the GEM.

I got one. I like it. Within 30 mins it felt right. Yes a tad expensive but seriously so far I’m impressed that I am striking it better and straighter /draw. I have had a terrible slice, different swing thought and different swing. Like we all do when we watch videos . We look for the cute … This has put me on plane and helped with my synchronisation. Arrived today,7th May, in UK, order number in the 590s from late April. Money taken almost immediately as opposed to waiting for dispatch, no dispatch email and no warning of delivery. Great product IMO but they could face a lot of adverse publicity unless they get their act together PDQ. At the moment just using the long rod, light grip, continuous back and forth half swings, with feet together. The device takes your hands where they need to go to, then just a matter of finding an internal/external focus that goes with it. I needed something to help me get the action correct in my trail wrist after having broken it, still got a lot of other issues but if that’s not right everything else is a compensation.
Hi Steve. Hello from the States! Thanks for making this video and introducing me to the GEM. I last swung a golf club late in 2018. An injury sidelined me. Well, I can't wait any longer and have been hitting balls at the range since late April. I had started to swing my irons in the manner that the GEM promotes but wasn't quite sure. So, I ordered the GEM based entirely on this video. It took around a month for the GEM to arrive. I put it to use. My swing and impact sound nothing else like the folks around me. The irons were easy. The hybrids fell in line soon after. The fairways are coming along. I hadn't tried the swing on the driver until today. Last 10 balls, I was tired and said, "what the hell. I don't have anything left anyway." Man was I SHOCKED! Just a soft, slow-ish swing and the ball easily went out to my earlier "good hits". What a difference! People on the range must've thought I was a lunatic as I just kept swinging, sending the ball on its merry way and laughing each time!
steve, i have one of those old matzie golf swing trainer that does a similar thing. it has a bit of a bent shaft and head that is weighted just so that when you swing it makes the hands and arms turn over like that but you can't hit a ball with i, sort of helps feel the correct action like the gem you're using. i have a lot of practice aids but hardly ever use them.
I decided to order one up. I have 3 beginner golfers in the house and I think this would be an invaluable tool to get them started on the right swing path. And, of course, I'll give it a go too. I already hit mostly straight or with a draw, but I could also see this helping with tempo and feel, and the visual aid for short game is appealing.

OK, I drank the Kool Aid and bought the Gem. Not sure how much it will help my release of the club but you are a very trusting person and I believe you when you say this is the best training device that you have ever tested. Fingers crossed. I live in Kentucky so lets see how long it will take to ship from Scotland.

I had all the hope in the world that this would work and I'm sure there are many out there that has used this product with great results but it didn't happen with me. I return it for a full refund.

This is not a con. Ordered mine on the 1st of May, came on the 9th.... It's a class piece of kit and it works... Tried the long stick first..... Hellfire, I was wobbling all over the place trying to fight it.... That's how poor we high handicap shankers are like. It was a measure of how out I was... But the new action reminded me of good hits in the past. However, once I tried the medium stick and ball.... It all felt in synch.... And yes, I put it on my gap wedge, did the 12 practice swings to the tune of Strawberry Fields forever.... Quickly transferred to my PW.... And boom! A draw of 110- 120 yds.... In the right direction..... My right wrist is aching as I'm using it like never before.... I feel wonderful and confident because I'm in the right position 1ft behind the ball. Thank you Gem, thank you Steve..... It doesn't matter how high or low I swing, as long as I get "that feeling" as I swing close to the ball. This has freed me up. Can't comment about the long irons or the short stick.... But after one night of swinging and half an hour on the big practice field.... It's changed everything. Does it work for the Driver Steve?

What if we use a strong grip and keep clubface closed at top..... do we set weight at 3 o clock instead of 6 o clock??
Does this do the same as counterbalance weights that you can put into the end of your grips . You can get different size weights say 20 grams for mid iron 30 grams for short irons. And they are fitted and ready for use at al times.

I ordered one. I remember there was a gyroscope-based training aid on some Golf Channel invention show a few years back that would force it into correct position during the swing. When Vaughn Taylor won the AT&T Pebble Beach PGA Tour event several years ago, there was a story about some $100k swing machine they had there that would force you to make the "correct" golf swing - he used it that week en route to the win, then ordered one for his house. I've wanted something like that - if I could just feel the correct position, I believe I could replicate it. Thanks!

@@crispyduck1706 My honest opinion - if you don’t release well or have issues with release it’s probably a good aid for getting the feel. If your release is ok, I don’t really see much benefit.
@@willjones3908 Interesting I know when I swing it back perfectly in plane I can feel the weight do it’s job but the way SJ described it was it swung itself - it certainly doesn’t
If people pay attention, this is what the club already wants to do (without training aid), seeing that the sweet spot of the face is external to the shaft. You just have to be mindful when swinging and try to "feel the weight of the sweet spot". The club will want to turn over correctly.
That said, not saying that a heavy weight can't make it easier to feel the correct sensation.
Hi Steve looks an interesting gizmo, after you make the practise swings with the training aid would it be easier to hit the golf ball with a different club instead of unscrewing the swing weight ?
That's an excellent point. If you have to remove it before the actual swing anyway, just use the next closest club & not have to be concerned about losing the feeling.

Hi Steve, About 25 years ago a product called the Duffix came out that was nearly identical. I can tell you from many years of teaching experience that it really doesn't help in the long run. It might short-term create a feeling but that's about it. Maybe you find it more helpful. Cheers..

Looks great but it is essentially telling us to open the club face on the way back and then close it, rather than the club face being square to the swing path. Seems we have either been told the wrong thing from the start or this creates room for error? If Iron Byron uses a club clamped in for a swing, it can't open and close like this can it? Or does Iron Byron rotate like a wrist would using this? Interested in knowing more. Thanks
Agree entirely. My hands are "fast" enough to close it again into impact
@@martinhardman9288 Keeping the club "closed" instead of of toe up is a much better way to play for 99% of golfers. It can promote a draw and stop weak shots to the right. But golf is a results oriented game so however you can make it happen
Steve I received my GEM. When you hit the golf balls are you just removing the rod and ball and leaving the clamp on when doing your swing and striking the ball.

I have the GEM. When i use it, i get a wobble. Especially on the release side. Doesn’t feel smooth. Is this normal ?
What are the lengths of rods of the the Gem?
The Matzie Assist swing trainer does the same thing with a bent and weighted shaft.

Steve, my Gem arrived on Wednesday. Started working with it already. The first few swings were wobbly when coming into impact but subsequently realised the ball weight was doing its job telling me something was not right. Clever piece of kit but...I deliberately keep the blade closed in takeaway. At P2 the toe is cranked over a little not straight up to sky. For me that is. I'd rather play this way than opening then closing again. With the blade slightly shut it means that coming into impact all I have to feel is continuing the right amount of rotation. Coincidentally Eric Cogorno released a tremendous video only yesterday on the whole subject of grip, wrists and forearm rotation. It doesn't matter how you get to "blade square" at impact as long as you get there. Opening and closing again as this gizmo trains introduces another variable for me which scares me 🤣
100%. Face/Path. I like the toe toe match my spine angle at P2, maintain the face, and rotate through. For me, this is too handsy.
I agree. I don't want to roll my wrists at impact because the face will be square only for a tiny fraction of the swing. Trying to keep an open mind and yeah a lot of my shots are to the right because I block and don't rotate my body enough, not because I don't rotate my hands. Give me a drill or gizmo to help me rotate my body.
I agree with the two comments about face matching spine angle and I too follow Cogorno. Two comments. First this still helps me anyway and for me it just seems to synch up the body and the hands naturally. Second I have already been playing with setting it up slightly off so that down sets the club face where I think it should be relative to spine angle rather than completely neutral. For me it still works. I realise I have been massively flipping the club in an attempt to fix an over the top swing by closing the face really fast. I knew I was doing it but couldn’t stop it. This device just seems to let me know instinctively that I don’t need to do that. If you manipulate the path it wobbles so I can just let it swing and feel what correct should be. It’s early days and I am still playing around with it but I feel enthused about the results so far.
Is this the same motor pattern as what the Old medicus hinge club that breaks of your don’t keep it on plane??

I think the product is probably good. But I think as a pro you have too much muscle memory built in for this device to overcome in one video. I noticed with the trainer attached your backswing plane was flatter all the way around, but once you took it off your backswing quickly went very vertical every time. Your shots are already good because of all the practice you've had to become a pro. I'd like to see you take a high handicapper to try it out. Let them hit some balls before using it so we can see the difference as you walk them through using the product. Good video though.

Looks like the coinage is open to the swing plane. 1st parallel should match face abs spine angle. An I wrong?
