I bought one of these 4 months ago. I have dropped 6 shots off my handicap. The best part is that all my drives now are mostly down the middle. And no more slices. This is an amazing training aid. I swing with the long rod every day. I used to get a wobble when I started using it. But not anymore. Golf for me is much less frustrating now. Thanks so much!

I bought a GEM and have been practicing half swings with the long rod, as instructed. After two days, three times a day, five minutes per session, I was able to stop the wobble with half swings. I learned my swing tempo needed to slow down and my body needed to rotate more on the downswing. I previously had an issue falling back on my back foot and flipping my hands through impact (reverse C) to save the shot. Swinging like that, I always got the wobble with the GEM. Now that I am able to stop the wobble, I’m anxious to hit balls to see if my contact and shot dispersion improve, and are more consistent.

After two weeks of half swings inside, I hit balls today for the first time. All I can say is, “Wow,” everyone should have one of these. Once you get over the wobble, you can flush it consistently. Don’t just buy it and hope after a few swings it doesn’t work due to the wobbles. It took me a week, three times a day, five minutes per session to get it to stop wobbling and as I stated, I was amazed. My swing fault, falling back on my back foot, went away and my contact with all clubs was unlike anything I ever experienced. Buy it and stick with it!

I bought one after your review last year Steve. It’s been amazing how much it has helped me understand proper movement in the golf swing. My feeling is moving the GEM toward the lead knee on the downswing.

I got the gem earlier this year... it has helped a lot with controlling clubface especially in pitching... I'm having a hard time developing a full swing with it.... I get lost from first parallel to top, transition and back down to p2. Can u do a video linking waist to waist GEM swings to making full backswing back down to p2. Thanks

But I can really feel what it is trying to do and as Fraser says I am trying to keep it square on way back and way through.

Hello Fraser and Steve. I bought the Gem over a year ago, tried it out then and didn’t like it. Had my right hip replaced December/22. Playing again now. 75 years old. Took the gem out of the box again September 1/23. Had some problems. Now watching this video I feel more confident . What I want to know, actually have to know is: on the down swing in this 2D video Steve you look like you are going to slice or fade your iron, you confirm this when you describe how you would use the bounce on a wedge. You show toe to toe up at waistlines with the long rod. Full swing I see the face some what open and if you didn’t do what the gem does you would slice the ball. Am I correct? Please let me know on your answer. I fight the hook all the time. I will continue to practice with the gem. I apologize for the length of my comment.

    I’ve just ordered a Gem.
Do you introduce wrist hinge with it at any time?
Would you use it with the Malaska L to L drill?
    Thanks

Hi Steve, I have a GEM, I bought it after watching you videos on it. It hasn’t helped improved my over the top tendency as much as I had hoped tbh. I’ve watched your vids and also the ones on the GEM site. I’m still not really sure Fraser has really explained the wobble. Are we meant to keep swinging with the long rod until the wobble disappears completely as the wobble is showing that our path/swing is fighting or outside the optimal one? Or as you seemed to suggest here should we move to the shorter rod when the wobble has reduced somewhat? Although Fraser seemed to dismiss that here. I understand the GEM is helping with strike and Fraser suggests shorter swings, but as you introduce more rotation the wobble seems to come back. I’ve had other people including very low handicappers concur, am I missing something in the progression or am I just unfixable? Thanks

I find that if the body controls the swing there is no wobble. You may need to work hard using the pivot of the body to get there but once you do use the body turn to swing the club the wobble disappears. Keep the hands completely quiet as you swing the long rod nice and slowly. Turn body, turn body and keep everything else quiet. Let me know how you get on 👍

Yes obv you can produce most of your speed with your wrists, thats what i use when i play table tennis or badminton!
I can swing a golf club with just my index fingers and thumbs on the grip and create plenty of swish but couldnt hit a golf ball solidly
Can see this as a great anti slice device but ive never sliced even when a hacker!

presumably if you wanted to take the club back slightly closed without wobble you could slightly alter the position of the gem

Isn't the club face supposed to match your spine angle on the takeaway? Being toe up in the takeaway contradicts that? Also doesn't this rely then on timing the rate of closure?

    • @stevejohnstongolf

    • @davidgraham8058

Yes, he has opened the club face a lot. I wouldn’t follow that advice. A square club face would match your spine angle once parallel.

I've found, through years of trials and tribulations, that if you don't get feedback as soon as you're off track (plane) then these gimmicks are worthless. The act of hitting an actual golf shot, can literally cause hypnosis. You're better off putting a range bucket on the ground in front of your right or left foot, depending on the specific path problem you're trying to address (rods are also helpful). You need to set up props that you'll actually collide with when you are HITTING BALLS.

    Hi
Bought a GEM last year…I have used it a bit…not as much as I should…this video has re-energized me…I do have one question…there are basically two ways to release the golf club…the classic twist release…and the more modern throw release…is the GEM more suited to the twist release or the throw release…release was never discussed in the video and in my opinion is a key part of a good swing…

    • @frankd1682
      @frankd1682 9 месяцев назад

The inventor explained during this video that it is more of a throwing motion. If you are not going to use it, and your not going to pay attention to the video, then put it up for sale and I’ll buy for half price!😂
